Devil’s Superstar Dirty Finish; maple leaf similarities

So, last night was an encouraging win for the New Jersey Devils, right?

This isn’t me saying, “Maybe they’ll make the playoffs!” They won’t.

But, the style of play that New Jersey showed last night – more open ice and a little more loose play – clearly showed that this team has the ability to compete. It will just have to happen next year. And with the right change.

And, of course, it all depends on Jack Hughes. Below is more about him and New Jersey’s impressive win.

Elsewhere, Jason Robertson’s next contract, ex-Blueshirts coach on NYR clash, more.

Devil’s Trade Rumors and News

New Jersey Hockey Now: Well, who saw this coming? The Dallas Stars are a bit of a bummer. However, it is still impressive that the Devils stunned them, scoring four first period goals to give Dallas a 6–4 victory. Jack Hughes, man. The Devils really are as good as they’ve been with a record of 8-3-0 in their last 11 games.

Speaking of shocking, this goal by Jake on Team USA teammate Jake Oettinger is downright nasty:

📺 devil’s rink report: One of the ironic things about the Devils’ struggles this season are the Maple Leafs parallels. Zach Phillip joins Devils Rink Report to explain why Toronto has struggled this year, which is similar to the loss to New Jersey, which is ironic when you consider who is behind each bench.

NHL Trade Talk, News and National Hockey Now

Forever Blueshirts: That’s why former New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette says last season was a much tougher battle than the Blueshirts’ current struggles.

TSN: It’s interesting to see how the Pittsburgh Penguins went from a team that everyone probably considered a bottom feeder, to where they are today. However, the result is even more fascinating. Because, for a while, Eric Carlson was a top trade candidate as Pence was declining for years. Now, there are no plans to move on from the Swedish defenseman this summer.

Pittsburgh hockey now: Speaking of the Pittsburgh Penguins, did the NHL send them any message in last night’s 5-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche? Dan Kingerski dives.

Athletic ($): Shayna Goldman takes a look at Jason Robertson’s next contract and how the Stars could make it worth their while. If not, maybe the devils should be banging down Jim Neal’s door.

Bizarre 14.8 Similarities Between Luka Doncic and Kobe Bryant

Los Angeles Lakers are doing great these days and they are led by Luka Doncic and his brilliant play. In their latest win against the Miami Heat, Doncic finished with 60 points, and it looked like he accomplished it with ease. His 60th point did not come until 14.8 seconds remained in the game when he was at the free-throw line.

The last time a Lakers player scored 60 points was Kobe Bryant in his last game, and funnily enough, he also scored his 60th point at the free-throw line with 14.8 seconds left.

It’s always nice when you’re in the same company with Bryant, and few players have had that honor over the past two weeks. As long as Doncic is on the Lakers, there’s a good chance for him to be in the same conversation as Bryant for some stats that no one except ESPN knows about.

Doncic has been in scoring position the last few games, and it has lifted the Lakers up and separated them from other teams in the Western Conference. Whether it’s a high-scoring game or a game-winner, Doncic has come through for the Lakers in what has possibly been their most important stretch of the season.

If he continues to play like this, it will help the team make more room among the others trying to reach the No. 3 seed. They are currently 45-25 and have a two-game lead against the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are the No. 4 seed.

There’s no doubt that Doncic and the Lakers are moving at the right time, and they could be a team that many will want to avoid when the playoffs arrive. In the last two seasons they were eliminated in the first round, but things could be different this season.
