- New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer took home the Calder Trophy, defeating Canadiens rookie Ivan Demidov in the process. This is not a surprising result, as Schaefer is an 18-year-old defenseman who has scored 23 goals, but it must be said that Demidov still had a very solid freshman season.
