The Montreal Canadiens have managed to instantly transform a last-place team into a club ready to battle the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals.

As a result, many other franchises are beginning to look to Montreal as a model worth emulating. Toronto Maple Leafs president Keith Pelley admitted that he underestimated the Canadiens, and was one of the driving forces behind Toronto’s decision to fire their general manager and head coach.

However, not every organization is a fan of what’s happening in Montreal.

According to Rotowire, the Canadiens are the most hated team in the United States, with several northeastern states leading the way.

Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire are the states that Canadians hate the most, although there’s a good chance that some other states rank second or third.

Such is life when your fan base is much larger than everyone else’s.

The Vegas Golden Knights were the most hated team in the NHL, with 11 states within their jurisdiction. The Colorado Avalanche finished second with eight states, while the Pittsburgh Penguins joined the Habs in third place with five states.

To be completely honest, the methodology is a bit strange. Rotowire didn’t ask real fans about their most hated rival. Instead, they based results on the most popular team in the area, proximity to other teams, and a few other factors.

The states Canadians list as ‘hating’ are Boston Bruins strongholds.

“We first identified the dominant fan base in each state based on market proximity, broadcast reach and where the real hockey culture lives. From there, we chose the team that draws the most condemnation using divisional rivalries, recent playoff history (2020 to 2025), the Original Six tradition and the universal-villain narratives that follow expansion success and dynasty fatigue. We ran this for all 50 states because hockey hatred in pro sports varies most regionally, and the answer says as much about hockey culture as it does the standings.“

The last time anyone actually polled fans, the Toronto Maple Leafs finished as the most hated organization by a wide margin, while the Canadiens were third.

There are 32 teams in the NFL, and the Arizona Cardinals are expected to be one of the worst teams in the league. That’s the expectation moving forward after going 3-14 last season, finishing in fourth place in the NFC West, hiring a first-year head coach and with a veteran journeyman starting quarterback like Jacoby Brissett.

The Cardinals’ voluntary organized team activities began on May 18, but they were missing a key member of the roster, former Pro Bowl pass-rusher Josh Sweat. As mentioned, these workouts are completely voluntary, so there is no punishment for players who do not participate.

According to John Gambadoro of 98.7 FM Phoenix, Sweat was not injured. Then, Cardinals insider Kyle Odegaard added fuel to the fire by revealing that Sweat “isn’t particularly happy in AZ.”

The 29-year-old Sweat recorded a career-high 12 sacks and four forced fumbles last season. This was his first season in Arizona after signing a four-year, $76.5 million contract with the Cardinals in free agency after helping the Philadelphia Eagles win Super Bowl LIX.

Nevertheless, Sweat signed when the Cardinals were coached by defensive-minded Jonathan Gannon. While the Cardinals are now led by the offensive mind of first-year coach Mike LaFleur, not much should change for Sweat, who will still play for defensive coordinator Nick Rallis for the second consecutive season.

Perhaps Sweat wants a raise after dominating individually to protect the bottom line. Sweat’s contract has him ranking 21st in annual average salary among edge rushers, but he performed at an elite level last season. His $16.3 million cap hit in 2025 is more than reasonable for the type of production Sweat is producing.

Perhaps he feels like Arizona is in no position to compete, and he wants to join a contender, no matter what that is; Sweat is trying to send a message.

The Miami Dolphins are entering a rebuild with a new head coach, a new starting quarterback, and several unproven players hoping to make their mark in the NFL. While they enter the season with low expectations in a top-heavy AFC East division that includes a Super Bowl representative from last year, it’s also a very exciting time for Dolphins fans, knowing that there’s always the chance that Malik Willis and company could be much better than skeptics expect.

Internally, the Dolphins, led by first-year head coach Jeff Hafley, will have to be confident in what they have. They may also feel like they are a piece or two away from competing in their conference.

One way to give the offense a better chance to succeed would be to strengthen the offensive line, which includes star running back D’Von Achane. There are several potential impact players still available.

Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen called the Dolphins the “best team fit” for former Detroit Lions left tackle Taylor Decker, who is still unsigned in free agency. Decker requested and was granted his release from the Lions earlier this offseason, and has not found a new home since.

However, the 2024 Pro Bowl lineman is still only 32 years old (will turn 33 in August), and he has started all 140 of his appearances since being drafted as the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Decker will definitely help the Dolphins get the best from their offensive line, allowing some of the younger players to show off some veteran moves.

Whether Decker, who has become accustomed to entering the season with playoff expectations in Detroit in recent times, wants to join the rebuilding effort in Miami remains to be seen. Still, playing football, especially in South Beach while getting paid millions of dollars, is better than not competing at all.

The Los Angeles Rams were a popular choice to select a wide receiver or tight end in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Puka Nacua and Davante Adams are both in the final year of their contracts, making it worthwhile for the Rams to consider the future of the position.

While Nacua is a franchise cornerstone and certainly a part of the Rams’ future plans after the 2026 season ends, Adams will turn 34 next season. Five receivers were selected among the 32 picks of the first round, but the Rams did not contribute to those numbers, instead making the surprise selection of quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th pick.

In fact, the Rams didn’t address the receiver room until the sixth round of the draft. Given that this is a team that is ready to win now, it’s a little surprising they didn’t bring in someone who had more potential to make an immediate impact.

However, everyone recognizes the Rams as a potential Super Bowl contender, which makes them an attractive landing spot for the best receivers still available in free agency.

Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen named the Rams as the “best team fit” for four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs.

Diggs’ last Pro Bowl season came in 2023, but the Rams aren’t asking him to come in and be a superhero next to Nacua and Adams. Reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford just needs a reliable third weapon that can win his 1-on-1 battles, and even at age 32, Diggs has shown he can get the job done.

Last season, Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while serving as the No. 1 target for Drake Mays during the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl run. He won’t get as many opportunities in Los Angeles, but signing with the Rams and accepting a reduced role could give Diggs his best chance yet to win a Super Bowl.

The San Francisco 49ers returned last season after missing the playoffs in 2024. Their resurgence now leads many to believe that coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have once again assembled a Super Bowl contender.

Yet, as we have seen time and time again, injuries can be a major factor in the overall success and/or failure of a team. At the same time, there are still some areas, like the interior offensive line, that have room for improvement.

Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen suggested that the 49ers are the “best team fit” for unsigned free agent offensive guard Kevin Zeitler. The 36-year-old one-time Pro Bowler spent last season with the Tennessee Titans, where he started 16 games. Also, last year’s starting left guard Spencer Burford has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

Whether the 49ers still feel like Zeitler has something left in the tank remains to be seen. He has played for three different teams over the past three seasons, but he earned his only Pro Bowl nomination in 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens.

If signed, the 49ers will soon have the NFL’s oldest starting offensive tackle in 38-year-old Trent Williams and oldest starting offensive guard in Zeitler. Still, they will certainly not be short on experience, having each made more than 200 starts.

The Sacramento Kings needed lottery luck to accelerate their rebuild. After falling to seventh overall, it appears that NBA free agency may now play a role in the Kings’ front office retooling the roster.

The New York Post’s Stephen Bondy spoke with sources around the league who described the Kings as a threat to poach center Mitchell Robinson away from the New York Knicks.

Robinson, age 28, was drafted by the Knicks with the 36th overall selection in the 2018 NBA draft. This occurred when Kings general manager Scott Perry held the same title with New York. The 7-foot center immediately earned All-Rookie Second Team honors in his first season, and he has been a key bench player for the team for the past three years.

After eight seasons in New York, Robinson is looking for a better opportunity elsewhere. He has started just 19 games over the past two seasons and has not averaged more than 20 minutes per contest since the 2023–24 campaign. Coming off a season where he made $12.954 million, he may also be looking for a better salary.

However, Sacramento will need to reduce payroll before going after Robinson. Zach LaVine ($48.967 million) and Domantas Sabonis ($45.472 million) are making more than $90 million combined next season, and that doesn’t even include the more than $45 million owed to De’Andre Hunter ($24.91 million) and Malik Monk ($20.19 million). Sacramento may also have to move on from DeMar DeRozan, paying him $10 million before his $25.74 million salary for next season becomes fully guaranteed.

If Perry is able to move Sabonis this summer then Robinson is an interesting short-term fit for Sacramento. However, given that the franchise is still in a multi-year rebuild, owner Vivek Ranadive will likely prioritize ways to save money this off-season.

The German newspapers were curious to know what should be done for the Rangers ‘A championship dynasty like the one they enjoyed in the late 1990s and 2000s.’

When answering this, Danny Rohl talked about the importance of having common goals and focusing on long-term gains.

“We need to rebuild personnel, but also more continuity. Many coaches have come and gone in recent years, each with his own philosophy, each trying to build a team.” He said.

“Now I’m here, and there is a clear roadmap. With the board, that is, with the club’s decision makers and investors, we want to find players who can help us. The goal is not to create a one-hit wonder, but to win titles in two, three or four years. Maybe that’s why we have to go through this difficult period again.”

Bild immediately asked if this meant a buying spree for Rangers in the summer.

“I think we’re starting to change. But there are clear processes in place.” Rohl explained.

“I work closely with the technical director, the CEO and the performance director at the club. If players become interesting to me, the board assesses the feasibility of signing them, and ideally, takes the decision and implements the move.”

Asked if Rangers will be signing Bundesliga players in the upcoming window, Danny Rohl talked about the pressure at Ibrox.

“And I’ve experienced Bayern Munich; I know there’s pressure to win titles. Here it’s even more brutal. Because here, too, the media and the surrounding environment scrutinize everything every day. You can’t celebrate wins too enthusiastically, and you can’t let losses depress you too much. The team needs calmness and composure.”

The Rangers manager has the support of the current owners, who have so far not criticized him.

With NASCAR’s silly season just a few months away, Kyle Busch’s future is the biggest uncertainty in the Cup Series right now. Now the uncertainty may be less.

Bob Pokrass of Fox Sports wrote that if Busch were to leave RCR, which he is still reluctant to do, joining Spire Motorsports is the “most logical” destination for the future Hall of Famer.

There were reports in February that Spier wanted to hunt big game in the NASCAR Silly Season. Team co-owner Jeff Dickerson is adamant that Spire become one of the top teams in the Cup Series and has shown a willingness to take aggressive steps to improve.

However, no move is necessarily guaranteed. Carson Hocevar is emerging as a superstar in NASCAR and scored a dominant win for Spire at Talladega. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Daniel Suarez has been a huge benefit.

Suárez, who many believed was struggling to save his Cup career entering 2026, has the highest average starting position (12.92) and average finishing position (15.00) in his Cup Series career. He currently sits 14th in the points, one spot off the lead in The Chase while Busch is 24th.

Who could replace Kyle Busch at Spire Motorsports?

Entering 2026, the most likely scenario appears to be that Daniel Suarez does not live up to expectations in his first season with Spire Motorsports and is replaced by Kyle Busch in the No. 7 car. Circumstances may have changed that.

However, Michael McDowell has been Spire’s worst performing driver this season. Despite finishing second at Watkins Glen, McDowell is 21st in points and trails Suarez in average starting position (17.78), average finishing position (19.92), and points (225, 21st).

McDowell, who will turn 42 in December, has given no indication of interest in moving away from full-time racing. If Spire wants to make a change, it now seems possible that Busch could replace McDowell in the No. 71 car next season.

However, the most likely outcome is that McDowell will get another season with Spire and Busch will remain with Richard Childress Racing. If both drivers struggle to perform well again in 2027, they will surely be replaced by up-and-comers in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.

Last year, the Denver Broncos had the NFL’s third-best scoring defense. Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph’s unit was a big reason the Broncos were able to win 14 games and were then viewed as a strong candidate to play in the Super Bowl.

Of course, Bo Nix’s ankle fracture at the end of the season derailed the team’s momentum in the playoffs. Still, many would argue that the Broncos have strengthened the roster since then, such as trading their first-round pick in exchange for star receiver Jaylen Waddle. Still, the Broncos have not finished building the roster yet.

Recently, Broncos edge rusher Nick Bonitto discussed the possibility of future Hall of Famer Von Miller returning with DNVR’s Jack Stevens. Bonito admitted that he would “love” to work together with Miller.

“It’s definitely going to be pretty crazy,” Bonito said. “Obviously, everyone would love it. Not just the fans but the players as well. He’s a guy that’s very well-loved here in Denver. My personal favorite player that I’ve ever watched. Just to be able to share a room with him would be amazing.”

The three-time All-Pro is now 37 years old, but he is coming off a nine-sack season, which suggests he may still have something in the tank if a Broncos reunion is still a possibility. If he plays a 15th season, the Broncos could be a fit for someone who definitely still wants to compete for a championship.

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ new braintrust of John Chayka and Mats Sundin have yet to have their mano-a-mano conversation with captain Auston Matthews. But when they do, they hope to find out what his intentions are. Does he want to stay in Toronto for the remaining two years of his contract? Or does he want out after the club’s tire fire last season?

If Matthews wants to go out, he’ll likely indicate his favorite destinations. Or at least he will be asked. But if the Leafs were to get the best return from their rookie, insider Jeff Marek proposed on DFO Rundown that the Utah Mammoth would be ‘at the front of the line’ to make a deal.

If Toronto has to make a decision on Auston Matthews, we’ll all wonder about Los Angeles. But he does not have property. You know who does? Utah. Utah is uniquely positioned. If that happens (Matthews is asking), you could potentially move Utah closer to, if not the front of the line..

If you’re going to be a team (like the Leafs) that wants to rebuild, and rebuild quickly? Utah has some prime candidates and some excellent young players they can look to.

Marek’s compatriot, DFO Rundown host Jason Gregor, said Mammoth would like to add some size along with skill to his mix. He didn’t mention Matthews, but the 6’3″, 215-pounder is exactly that. His two-way game would be a tremendous headliner for the top of their growing lineup.

Matthews has great connections to the Mammoth staff.

Sportsnet insider Nick Kyprios is another who sees a clear connection between the former Phoenix-based team (home of Matthews) and the Leafs’ $13.25 million man.

“There is speculation in my inner circle that the Utah Mammoth are looking at this situation, as they have some close friends of Matthews’ on their roster, including Clayton Keller.”

Matthews and Keller played together with the USHL Under-18 team in 2014–15. The Leafs captain grew up in Scottsdale and went to Arizona Coyotes games as a young player. Yotes legend Shane Donn was one of Matthews’ heroes growing up. Reuniting with that organization, even if in a new location, will likely be attractive to him.

The Mammoths appear to be a team on the rise, with a number of exciting young players. He took a big step forward this season, leading Utah to the playoffs for the first time with a wild card berth.

The Leafs made a big move today and fired head coach Craig Berube prior to any negotiations with Matthews. We will see how this affects the captain’s thoughts later on.

A new rumor suggests that the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks will eventually be joined by a fourth NBA team in Texas. But it won’t be a new team at all, and instead, Portland Trail Blazers fans will be heartbroken.

Aside from the ongoing playoffs and the upcoming NBA Draft, one of the biggest stories in the league’s offices is on expansion. With the NFL raking in the big bucks with 32 teams, the world’s top basketball league is also looking to squeeze more money out of its massive fan base.

All indications are that the league will add two more teams in the next few years, and they will likely be in Las Vegas and the returning Seattle SuperSonics. Even with those additions, it still means California remains the state with the most NBA teams – the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Sacramento Kings.

However, according to Bill Oram of the Oregonian, Texas, the state with the most land area in the union, may soon join California with four teams in the National Basketball Association.
