DeMarcus Cousins criticizes NBA for Luka Doncic’s canceled technicality

Recently, the NBA announced it would void a technical foul on Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic during the team’s win over the Orlando Magic over the weekend. The technical foul would have been Doncic’s 16th incident of the year, which would have required an automatic suspension, but Doncic’s post-game clarification about the technical foul may have played a role in the league’s decision to void it.

One person who doesn’t agree with the league’s decision is former NBA great DeMarcus Cousins, who recently went on FanDuel’s “Run It Back” show to express his thoughts.

“My issue is not with Luka Doncic. … If it’s Draymond Green, he’s not getting canceled,” Cousins, formerly of Run It Back on X, claimed on Twitter.

Indeed, Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green has gained quite a reputation as an argumentative player with referees, the other team, and sometimes with his Warriors teammates. This certainly plays a role in his perception, although some have argued that it actually works in the opposite way and gives the star long leeway when it comes to arguing with officials during games.

Doncic, meanwhile, is known to be a frequent complainer in his own right, facing heavy criticism from fans and pundits for his frequent scathing criticisms of referees, which often comes at the expense of playing defense or getting back in transition. However, Saturday’s case was a little different, as the technical foul originated from an interaction between Doncic and Magic big man Goga Bidaatje, with Doncic later claiming that Bidaatje booed his family, which led to the altercation.

In any case, Lakers fans are certainly happy that the technical foul was canceled and Doncic will be able to prepare for Monday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons, in which Los Angeles will try for its tenth consecutive win.
