The Miami Heat are finally ready to close the book on the Terry Rozier era. After a season defined more by legit headlines than highlights, Miami is expected to waive the veteran guard before the NBA playoffs begin. The move is intended to clear a roster spot for the postseason, allowing Pat Riley and the front office to add depth or convert a two-way contract once the regular season ends.

Terry Rozier has not played a single minute for the Heat this season. His absence began after October 1. 23 arrests related to federal investigation of illegal gambling. While he remained on the roster as a potential trade chip, his expiring $26.6 million contract found no taker before the February deadline. With the team now holding a 38–31 record and fighting for position in the crowded Eastern Conference, Miami has decided it is time to move on.

The veteran guard must clear waivers before the regular season ends on April 12, meaning the Heat will likely make the move official by April 9. Last season, Rozier averaged 10.6 points and 2.6 assists in 64 games for Miami, but his production dropped significantly after a trade to the Charlotte Hornets.

In his absence, players like Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo have carried the load. Herro is currently averaging 21.4 points per game, while Adebayo has been a force in the paint with 20.0 points and nearly 10 rebounds a night. The Heat recently lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in a hard-fought game, highlighting the need for a final, cohesive roster to advance to the play-in or playoff rounds.

Waiver of Rozier potentially opens up a seat for contributors like Pelle Larsson or Keishad Johnson to join the standard roster. While the gambling case continues in court, the Heat have focused on the court, opting for playoff flexibility rather than a roster spot that has been unused for months.

As the Miami Heat are dealing with an upcoming make-or-break week with the start of the season home stretch, there is a big update regarding the situation with Terry Rozier. Since this has been an unprecedented situation with the Heat and Rozier, there are many who believe the team should receive compensation, and that’s what happened on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Charlotte Hornets are giving Miami a second-round pick in 2026 to “resolve a dispute” over the position with Rozier. The Heat traded Kyle Lowry for Rozier in the first round on January 23, 2024, before that season’s trade deadline.

Although this appears to be the resolution of the dispute, Rozier is still on Miami’s books as his status continues to come to light after being arrested by the federal government due to gambling ties at the beginning of the season. According to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald, this would be “more favorable”, considering a second-round pick.

“The 2026 second-round selection the Heat will receive from the Hornets is more favorable to Golden State and Denver’s second-round selections,” Chiang wrote.

No lawsuit from the Heat was ever planned

While there were rumors about the Heat and Rozier as to what the next step would be for the team, there was some speculation about whether the team would file a lawsuit. Mostly, due to the league and Charlotte reportedly not telling Miami about possible gambling connections, the NBA conducted its own investigation of Rozier while he was with Charlotte.

However, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald would say that “Lawsuit was never an option” and that the second-round pick is “the final development on the case”.

Jackson further stated, “The Hornets never told the Heat that they knew Rozier was under investigation at the time of the trade, but there was no specific NBA rule against it.” “The Heat will send a lottery-protected first-rounder in 2027 to the Hornets. If the Heat miss the playoffs next season, Miami will retain its 2027 first-rounder and send a 2028 first-rounder to Charlotte.”

At any rate, the Heat are focused on extending their five-game winning streak with next Tuesday’s game against the Washington Wizards.

Young has yet to see action on the field as a Wizard, but now he’s part of the story of Monday night’s game between his Wizards and the Houston Rockets at Capital One Arena in Washington.

That’s when he was surprisingly ejected from the contest amid a heated moment on the court between Washington guard Jameer Watkins and Rockets forward Tari Eason in the third quarter.

Apparently, Young, who was not in uniform, entered the courtroom, while Watkins and Eason joined him.

Due to lower body (knee and quad) injuries, the 27-year-old Young has not been eligible for games with the Wizards since Washington acquired him via a trade with the Atlanta Hawks in January in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.

But he is close to debuting with Washington. He is reportedly expected to play his first game as a Wizard this coming Thursday in a home game against the Utah Jazz.

Although the Wizards are literally headed for the lottery, that obviously won’t stop the former Oklahoma Sooners star from playing this week. That said, Young is unlikely to get heavy minutes immediately in his return, as he needs more time to shake off the rust amid a lengthy absence from the court.

Young has only played 10 games so far this season, during which he has averaged 19.3 points, 8.9 assists and 1.5 rebounds, while shooting just 41.5 percent from the field.

On Monday evening, the Houston Rockets got back into the win column with a comfortable home win over the Utah Jazz. There was a scary moment when Jazz forward Vince Williams Jr. was injured after colliding with Rockets wing Terry Eason.

It has since been revealed that the injury was likely to be Williams’ ACL, and many fans were doubtful of Eason’s intentions in this game.

After the game, Eason took the opportunity to apologize to Williams for the incident.

According to Sarah Todd of the Desert News, Eason said, “I’ve known Vince for a long time and he’s a really good guy, hard-working guy.” “It was just respect. I have a lot of respect for him, and I know it’s his contract year… I didn’t intend to do anything. My intention is always just to work hard. So I went to yell and just go check on him. Obviously nothing helps, but just tell him I’m sorry. You know, nobody’s trying to hurt anybody.”

Meanwhile, Jazz coach Will Hardy had a strong reaction to the play.

Overall, it was a strong performance for the Rockets on Monday, which was much needed after their recent loss against the New York Knicks on Saturday evening at Madison Square Garden. In that game, the Rockets led by 18 points in the second half, but could only put 15 points on the board in a poor fourth quarter and ultimately succumbed to Jalen Brunson’s jumpers.

The loss rekindled concerns about the Rockets’ crunch time offense and the team’s lack of a true point guard, although Fred VanVleet has not yet been officially ruled out for the remainder of the season as he continues to battle his ACL injury.

Jason Terry knows a thing or two about excelling as a shooter.

The longtime NBA legend played 19 seasons in the league, winning the Sixth Man of the Year award during the 2008–09 season. Terry finished his career as a 38.0% shooter from beyond the arc, shooting a career-high 43.8% from 3-point range during the 2006–07 season, when the Dallas Mavericks posted the league’s best record at 67–15.

Terry currently serves as an assistant coach for the Utah Jazz, a role he has held since the 2022–23 season. One of the Jazz’s most promising young players is none other than Ace Bailey, who was their top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Bailey was selected with the fifth overall selection in the draft after averaging 17.6 points per game during his lone season at Rutgers.

In the first half of the season, the 6-foot-9 Bailey has played a key role in the rotation for the Jazz, averaging 11.7 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in 49 games and 38 starts. Terry has high expectations for Bailey, even comparing him to Hall of Fame guard Ray Allen when it comes to his early release.

Allen was a 10-time All-Star who is considered one of the best 3-point shooters of all time.

Terry said in a personal interview, “There are no limits for Ace Bailey, because he’s a blank canvas.” “He’s only 19 years old. He’s coming on. He’s raw, but he has supreme athleticism and shooting ability – he could be one of the great shooters from long range, when it’s all said and done. He has a quick release, and he gets it off. He gets it over quickly, kind of like a Ray Allen type of release. He doesn’t jump that high. But as far as hitting that shot. He gets it over with pretty quickly.”

So far this season, Bailey is converting 45.0% of his attempts and 34.0% of his 3-point shots. Terry said where Bailey will excel in his 3-point attempts is “coming off screens on pin downs” and shooting 3-pointers in transition.

Bailey clearly has a long way to go before he’s in the same league as Allen, but he’s getting significant playing time as part of a rebuilding effort in Utah. The 19-year-old ranks fourth in points and fifth in 3-pointers made on the Jazz.

As noted, Bailey only spent one year in college. Plus, considering Utah is in obvious rebuilding mode, he’ll have all the time in the world to develop. At 18-38, they currently sit in 13th place in the Western Conference after posting the worst record in the NBA last season at 17-65.

The sky is definitely the limit for the 6-foot-9 small forward.
