The NFL calendar continues to move toward June, when we’ll see all teams in action. Players reporting and participating in mandatory minicamp will make headlines based on who is there and who isn’t. There is always a possibility of further injury.

Not to mention the all-important June 1st, which could bring a flurry of activity on the markets for two high-profile wide receivers. When the Bears traded a fifth-round pick for Garrett Bradbury, it was because their 27-year-old Pro Bowl center Drew Dallman had retired three days earlier. Circumstances have changed since the Bears selected Iowa’s Logan Jones in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft in April. Now, if Jones looks ready to start, the Bears could look to recoup his draft compensation or something close to it.

If the 49ers trade or cut former All-Pro Brandon Aiyuk to another team before June 1, they will incur a dead cap charge of $29.5 million with a savings of only $14.9 million. They have been incredibly stubborn so far, indicating that they will not bite him and get nothing in return except a larger bill. Meanwhile, more flexibility is available after June 1, where the 49ers will only face an $8.3 million dead cap penalty, saving $6.3 million. The Commanders have been the most popular landing spot, as he would be able to reunite with his former college QB Jayden Daniels.

Anthony Richardson

It doesn’t seem like the Colts are planning on trading former No. 4 pick Anthony Richardson in the near future. However, an injury to a starter or even a top backup could prompt a strong trade offer. Or perhaps the Colts are starting to really like what they see in 23-year-old Riley Leonard, enough to move over as the backup to Richardson.

Kayvon Thibodeaux

The Giants are almost at an embarrassment of riches at the pass-rusher position. About. While former first-round pick Kayvon Thibodeaux will certainly have an important role as the third/situational edge player behind Brian Burns and Abdul Carter, he is also entering the final year of his contract. The Giants may be able to generate a good trade return while doing the 25-year-old a favor by finding him a starting opportunity elsewhere.

Alvin Kamara

The Saints really don’t need Alvin Kamara anymore. He certainly won’t play nearly the same role he did before signing a four-year, $48 million contract with Travis Etienne. The players’ skills essentially match each other, meaning Kamara will have more luck in the same role he is used to in a different environment.

The Cardinals have come into voluntary OTAs, but one of their best players, Josh Sweat, is not in attendance. He is not hurt. According to team insider Kyle Odegaard, Sweat is not “happy” with the team. But no one has revealed why this is so. Ranking 21st in contract value among edge rushers is likely part of the reason, especially after recording a career-high four forced fumbles and 12 sacks.

The NFL’s best-kept secret is that the Eagles are planning to trade Pro Bowl receiver AJ Brown. In fact, at this point it is “somewhat understood”. Most expect Brown to stay in New England with his former head coach Mike Vrabel, but that can’t be certain.

Milwaukee wants a solution on Antetokounmpo by the 2026 NBA Draft, which begins in just a month. Antetokounmpo will be the biggest fish on the trade market during the 2026 NBA offseason, and multiple organizations are expected to be in the mix.

This seems like a real possibility, so what will it really take for Antetokounmpo to get to New York? This is what needs to happen for the New York Knicks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo should request a trade with New York as a destination

It all starts with Antetokounmpo. If the Knicks want to pull off one of their biggest trades in franchise history, the 31-year-old forward will have to request a trade from Milwaukee. Again, Antetokounmpo would have to include New York as one of his favorite destinations.

Luckily for the Knicks, this shouldn’t be a problem. Antetokounmpo has his sights set on New York and would love to play in the Big Apple. Therefore, if Antetokounmpo requests a trade, the Knicks will inevitably be in contention. It just depends on what Antetokounmpo wants to do moving forward.

Does Antetokounmpo want to stay in Milwaukee and build his legacy with one team? If the Bucks are committed to building a great team around Antetokounmpo, this could take his mind off a trade. Still, the damage from the 2025-26 NBA season may be too much to overcome.

In that case, the Knicks would be one of the top landing spots for Antetokounmpo in a potential trade. However, does New York need a reason to trade for Antetokounmpo this summer?

The New York Knicks need a reason to pursue Antetokounmpo this summer

The Knicks are scheduled to play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. New York has made it to the conference finals for the second consecutive NBA season, as Jalen Brunson continues to take the organization to new levels. However, the trade may become more difficult for Antetokounmpo in the coming weeks.

Will a second consecutive conference finals appearance derail the Antetokounmpo deal? How about an appearance in the NBA Finals? If the Knicks defeat the Cavaliers and make the 2026 NBA Finals, it could lead the team away from a drastic move for the 31-year-old star.

To stay under the second apron, the Knicks will likely have to trade a combination of OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart. Since New York doesn’t have many first-round picks to offer Milwaukee, it will almost certainly have to trade half of its starting lineup. This may not be attractive for a team that is so close to the championship.

After all, Antetokounmpo has dealt with injuries the last few seasons, and an unfortunate health issue could derail the Knicks. In order for New York to trade for Antetokounmpo, it needs a reason to pursue him this summer. More likely, it would require the Knicks to be eliminated by the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Antetokounmpo is interested in joining the Knicks, but the organization may not be in the right position to swing a trade this offseason.

The Anaheim Ducks came out of nowhere during the 2025-26 NHL season, and they are here to stay. The Ducks have a strong young core with Cutter Gauthier, Leo Carlson and Mason McTavish. If Matthews wants to compete long-term, Anaheim is another good option. The Ducks will be in contention for the next decade and Matthews can lead them to victory in the Western Conference.

The future is bright for the Utah Mammoth in the Western Conference. Utah has arguably the most movable assets of any organization in the NHL, giving the team flexibility moving forward. Matthews would love to join up with one of his Olympic teammates, like Minnesota, under Clayton Keller. Mammoth has the assets to accomplish this, but will they be Matthews’ preferred destination?

Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings could be the top trade destination for Matthews. With the retirement of Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles is looking for another leader, and while Quinton Byfield is an up-and-coming player for the organization, Matthews will take it to the next level. The Maple Leafs superstar is from California, so he’d be happy to go home, too.

This seems like a possibility, so what exactly would Hughes have to do to land in Detroit? Here’s what needs to happen for the Detroit Red Wings.

Quinn Hughes to decline extension with Minnesota Wild

If Detroit wants any chance of landing Hughes during the 2026 NHL offseason, it starts with the defenseman’s intentions. After being traded to Minnesota, Hughes was not able to sign a contract extension as he is not eligible until July 1, 2026. However, what if the Wild are not able to complete a contract extension?

In a scenario where Hughes declines to sign with Minnesota, the organization would be encouraged to move him this offseason or at the 2027 NHL trade deadline. The Wild gave up a lot of asset to acquire the 26-year-old defenseman, so losing him in 2027 NHL free agency would be detrimental.

Therefore, it makes the most sense to trade Hughes during the offseason to get more value. More likely is Hughes to sign a contract extension with Minnesota, and an NHL insider recently predicted it would be a three-year deal. If not, it will allow Detroit to correct the mistake during the 2026-27 NHL season.

After all, NHL stars are hard to come by, and Detroit had the opportunity to acquire Hughes in December 2025.

Detroit Red Wings must complete an extension with Hughes

The Red Wings had the opportunity to trade for Hughes during the 2026–27 NHL season. The star defenseman is from Michigan and Detroit is one of his favorite places. However, the organization reportedly declined to acquire Hughes without a contract extension.

Allowing Hughes to go to Minnesota was a mistake when Detroit was more likely to be able to complete an extension this summer. If the Wild trade Hughes declines to sign a contract extension, the atmosphere surrounding a potential deal should be similar. The Red Wings would have to complete an extension with Hughes.

In December, the 26-year-old defenseman was not allowed to sign a contract extension, as he could not complete it until July. Now, Hughes will likely have to assure another team that he will re-sign to give up property. After all, a year of Hughes wouldn’t be worth “leaving the farm.”

Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman reportedly wanted a verbal extension in December, but this time will be different. If Hughes declines to sign a contract with Minnesota, it means he has his sights set on a specific organization. It could be Detroit or the New Jersey Devils, but Yzerman needs a commitment.

Hughes will likely sign an extension this summer, but if he doesn’t, the Red Wings should be in the mix once again.

Connor McDavid is coming off a disappointing loss to the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs. People are talking about the possibility of McDavid leaving Edmonton after the loss to the Anaheim Ducks. So, would Detroit make sense as a potential landing spot for the Red Wings superstar center?

While it’s highly unlikely in reality, what exactly would McDavid have to do to land in Detroit? This is what needs to happen for the Red Wings.

The Detroit Red Wings need to have a very strong 2026-27 NHL season

It is highly unlikely that McDavid will request a trade from Edmonton before even playing a season on his new two-year contract extension. Therefore, a trade during the 2027 NHL offseason will likely become more likely. The 29-year-old star will have one year left on his contract and Edmonton will have to make a difficult decision if re-signing seems like a long shot.

In this scenario, Detroit would have to perform at a high level during the 2026–27 NHL season. As of right now, it’s a long shot that McDavid will want to play with the Red Wings. The organization has the longest playoff drought in the NHL, and McDavid looks to compete for the Stanley Cup in 2024 and 2025 after falling short.

The Edmonton center is unhappy with being eliminated in the first round, so Detroit would not be a viable destination. Therefore, the Red Wings need to put themselves back in a position where superstar players will want to join the team. Right now, Detroit doesn’t have the same appeal as other organizations.

This is the first step in a mission to do business for McDavid. Even if the Red Wings can make a Buffalo Sabres-style jump during the 2026-27 NHL season, McDavid will have to work his way out of becoming a Red Wing.

Connor McDavid must request trade with Detroit as destination

The most important move for the Red Wings is McDavid requesting a trade from the Oilers. It would be almost impossible for Edmonton to trade McDavid without demands or the realization that he won’t be around for long. If McDavid requests a trade or expresses a desire to leave, the Red Wings should be one of the preferred destinations.

It has to do with Detroit becoming an attractive landing spot. All of this becomes irrelevant if the Red Wings miss the 2027 Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, if Detroit can massively improve and become a contender, all of this will change. At that point, McDavid may have more desire to play in Detroit.

Even in this scenario, Detroit wouldn’t be the only team that wants McDavid on their roster. Other organizations will be pushing to acquire the 29-year-old superstar, leading to a bidding war for his services. After all, the same bidding war happened when the Minnesota Wild acquired Quinn Hughes.

The Red Wings did not want to pull the trigger without a long-term contract extension, and they failed to land Hughes. In a scenario where Detroit improves into a Stanley Cup contender, and McDavid requests a trade, the organization would likely need a similar commitment.

Connor McDavid is unlikely to join the Red Wings during his NHL career. However, if all of these scenarios occur, it gives Detroit a chance to land one of the NHL’s biggest superstars.

A new report on Wednesday reveals that the New York Giants came just moments away from completing a trade for rising defensive star Trent McDuffie.

After a poor 4-13 finish and third consecutive loss on the season, there is actually real hope and excitement for NY Giants fans heading into the 2026 campaign. This is due to the hiring of former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

While the Ravens fired Harbaugh earlier this year, it was due to him not reaching the high standard he had set over the past 18 seasons, not because he wasn’t coaching at a high level. Harbaugh has led the Ravens to the playoffs in 12 of his 18 seasons, won 10 or more games 11 times (12 two seasons ago), and has a Super Bowl championship on his resume.

Harbaugh is expected to get more out of this roster than Brian Daboll has in the last four years. However, the NY Giants still need more impact players if they hope to become a playoff contender in 2026. And it seems they had their eye on one of the game’s best young cornerbacks to help improve those chances.

NY Giants were close to trading Trent McDuffie

Kansas City Star NFL reporter Sam McDowell revealed, “I’m told the Trent McDuffie trade came down to the Rams and Giants. In the end, the Rams were the team that was willing to give up a first-round plus.”

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Rams completed a blockbuster trade for the 2025 All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion. In the deal, the Kansas City Chiefs received a first-round pick (No. 29), fifth- and sixth-rounders in next month’s NFL Draft, and a third-rounder next year.

McDuffie is in the final year of his rookie contract and is expected to get a new long-term deal that will pay him around $30 million annually. McDuffie would have been a huge contribution to a NY Giants secondary that was terrible last season. Although they didn’t complete a trade, it’s good to see the front office looking to make big, bold moves to fix one of the team’s biggest issues in 2025.

The Minnesota Timberwolves traded 38-year-old point guard Mike Conley Jr. at the NBA trade deadline, not only to create some financial flexibility but also to open the door for forward Ayo Dosunmu. After being traded again and ultimately released by the Charlotte Hornets, Conley is officially returning to Minnesota for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, as first reported by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Since the trade deadline, re-signing Conley has been a foregone conclusion for the Timberwolves. As a result of Minnesota having 13 players on its active roster for 14 days, it will have to fill at least one of its two open roster spots on Tuesday per league rule.

That’s why Conley has officially signed his contract and is rejoining the team he has spent the last four years with.

The reason Conley was allowed to re-sign with that team is because after being traded to the Chicago Bulls, the veteran guard was once again redirected to Charlotte. He was then released, allowing the Timberwolves to re-sign him.

Although his numbers and effectiveness have declined in his 19th NBA season, Conley is still a respected player, and has played an important leadership role for the Timberwolves over the past few seasons. Anthony Edwards, Chris Finch and many others in Minnesota have always praised his character and ability to help the team move forward.

After the trade deadline, Edwards advocated for Conley to return to the team, making it clear that everyone in the Timberwolves locker room wanted to see the veteran return.

“I keep hearing he might come back, so hopefully he comes back, and I hope he sees it,” Edwards said, via Chris Hine of the Minnesota Star Tribune, after a 128–126 win over the Toronto Raptors on February 4. “We want you back, Mike. He knows we miss him.”

In 44 games with the Timberwolves this season, nine of which he started, Conley has averaged 4.4 points and 2.9 assists while shooting 32.1 percent from 3-point range in about 18.5 minutes per game.

Conley will see less minutes on the court in this matchup with Minnesota, especially now that Dosunmu plays a key role in the backcourt behind Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo. The Timberwolves are currently 34-22 and find themselves in sixth place in the Western Conference coming out of the NBA All-Star break.
