Insider sheds light on upcoming Maclin Celebrini contract extension talks for SJ Sharks

The San Jose Sharks have one of the best players in the NHL at the moment in 19-year-old Maclin Celebrini. Coming off a record-breaking season where he almost led the team to the playoffs, it appears the phenom will be rewarded with a new deal this summer.

On the latest episode of Sportsnet’s 32 Thoughts, insider Elliotte Friedman said San Jose will be proactive regarding extension talks with Celebrini once he becomes eligible. He does not expect Celebrini’s camp to come up with a long-term deal for seven to eight years, but a four-year deal is also unlikely.

“I think they work hard on it. For me, it’s not a question of numbers, but of words. I can’t see them or their representatives… I can’t see them wanting to go for eight years or seven years.:

  • Macklin Celebrini Contract (Puckpedia): $975,000 cap hit (2026-27), RFA in 2027

Friedman further said the extension could be for three or five years. The three-year extension will serve as the final year before Celebrini becomes an unrestricted free agent. Alternatively, a five-year contract would effectively buy out the first year he would be eligible for NHL free agency as an unrestricted free agent.

Both sides will have to figure out how to strike the right balance between giving Celebrini a salary that reflects his value to the franchise, while also keeping it at a point that allows the front office to build a great team around the franchise.

  • Macklin Celebrini Statistics (2025–26): 115 points (70 assists, 45 goals), 8 power-play goals, 25 power-play assists

Based on informed speculation from agents who spoke to The Athletic, a three-year extension could come in at anywhere in the ballpark of $10 million to $12 million per season. If both parties can agree on a five-year deal, the average annual value of the said deal could be closer to $14 million to $15 million.

At the very least, a contract extension is likely sometime this summer after Celebrini becomes eligible for the first time on July 1. Once this matter is resolved, the Sharks will have a much clearer picture of their long-term financial flexibility and how they can strengthen their defense in the years to come.

Michael Jordan spotted in the upcoming Nigel Sylvester Air Jordan 4

Jordan Brand has seen some of its most successful collaborations with Air Jordan ambassador and pro BMX rider Nigel Sylvester. Following the massive success of their Air Jordan 4 “Brick by Brick” release in 2025, Sylvester and Air Jordan are expecting another thematic release in the coming months. Michael Jordan was recently spotted wearing the unreleased project over the holidays, giving fans their first glimpse of the pair on feet.

Check out our sneakers news for more upcoming releases and breaking content!

The “Brick by Brick” Air Jordan 4 release was widely considered the best sneaker release of 2025, building on the success of Nigel Sylvester’s previous Air Jordan 1 collaboration with the Jumpman. They took things a step further by releasing the Air Jordan 4 RM, which is an updated Jordan 4-inspired silhouette tailored for BMX and bike riding.

Fans were lured by rumors of an alternate white “Brick by Brick” pair as opposed to the original, but Jordan Brand has been able to keep official images a secret for the most part. However, just recently, Jumpman was spotted wearing the upcoming Jordan 4 “Sail/Cinnabar” while walking around Disney World.

Michael Jordan in Nigel Sylvester’s Air Jordan 4

While Jordan is clearly trying to enjoy some time at the most magical place on Earth, fans couldn’t help but notice his unreleased shoes that he was rocking. The “Sail/Cinnabar” colorway has been teased on multiple occasions, but seeing Jordan with his pair is the most likely sign of it finally releasing. The pair will also feature Sylvester’s signature “Bike Air” on the rear heel, replacing the typical “Nike Air” branding.

The Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 “Sail/Cinnabar” is expected to release during the Summer 2026 season with no specific release date planned as of yet. The shoes will retail for $230 and come in full sizes, but expect limited numbers and some degree of exclusivity given the nature of the original release.

Do you like it more than the original “Brick by Brick” Air Jordan 4?
