While much of the conversation surrounding the Boston Celtics-San Antonio Spurs contest focused on Jaylen Brown’s ejection, Jayson Tatum turned some of his attention to another call. Or in this case a non-call. And that included Victor Vembanyama.

At one point during the game, the Celtics star went into the lane to get a bucket. As the ball passed through the hoop, Wemby gave Tatum a slight push. There was no foul play.

Tatum minced no words in describing the incident.

“I mean, there was definitely a talk about it between me and the ref. I was like, how did you not see it!”

Tatum’s comments came just minutes later and in the same locker room spot where teammate Derrick White called two technical fouls on Brown “bullsh*t.”

“I said so on the way back.” Tatum continued his comments. “Yeah, I stopped talking and just went back into the crowd.”

In his third game of the year, due to an Achilles injury suffered during the playoffs, Tatum scored a season-high 24 at the Alamo City. Vembanyama scored the highest score of 39 points in the game.

Tatum’s thoughts on the drama involving Wembley come after he shared his thoughts on Brown’s firing.

“I disagreed with that. They made a big deal about prime-time games and the stars playing and being available. You definitely got a push, and it probably wasn’t very good at first. The emotions are here, so I can tell you, you have to understand a nationally televised game between the best teams in the league. When you make a big deal about the stars playing and being available, you make everybody want to finish the game. So, I disagree with that.”

Tatum, who has held the position for the past six seasons, was the Celtics’ leading scorer last year, admitting he felt the need to do more. However, in reality, he could do very little with half the competition watching on the bench.

When the four-time All-NBA First Team selection was asked if he was ready for 35 minutes per night, down from about 27 minutes per outing, “I can play more.”

“But, I understand the bigger picture,” Tatum continued. “Right now, I’m not thinking about my soreness. I mean, I’m trying to compete, I’m trying to be out there, but it’s part of the plan, so I have to stick with it.”

The third overall pick in 2017 saw the court for 24 minutes in a 125–116 loss to the Spurs.

“I feel good,” Tatum said after helping Boston keep it close against a team that has won 16 of 17 contests, including this one.

“You have to give them credit,” the former Duke star said of the Spurs. “They made some plays, they hit some big shots. I felt like we missed some shots that we normally make. We competed to the end. Guys stepped up in a big way.”

“They’re a fun team to watch,” Tatum continued about San Antonio, “They’re very competitive, and you can see why they’ve had such a good season.”

After Bam Adabayo’s historic 83-point night on Tuesday, NBA champion Metta World Peace gushed about who he believes will eventually break Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point record. Chamberlin set the scoring record on March 2, 1963 against the New York Knicks. World Peace stated on his X account that he believed Wembanyama would eventually have a 101-point game.

“Now I’m waiting for @wemby to score 101,” World Peace posted.

Wembanyama certainly has a tremendous opportunity for goals, with an amazing ability to score at all three levels. He towers over most NBA guards with his 7’4″ frame and definitely has the mentality to make history. He also demonstrated his ability to score points quickly in February.

Wembanyama scored 25 points in the first quarter of their matchup against the Lakers on February 10. He finished the game with 40 points and 12 rebounds on 13-20 shooting, added four three pointers and shot 10-12 from the free-throw line. No other starter finished in double figures in that game.

After the matchup, Wembanyama talked about his historic night against the Lakers. He indicated that he wants to continue playing and increase his scoring output further.

“You have to have a greed for these kinds of games,” he said. “I mean, in every game you have to be greedy to get more every time, because, you know, all the time, no matter who’s on the court, someone is going to want to stop you from doing what you’re doing out there. So you have to be greedy.”

Adebayo, who made history on Tuesday night, has mesmerized NBA players, personnel and fans, leading to a variety of opinions regarding his 83-point game.

Some, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, have saluted Bam’s performance, claiming it to be an “incredible” accomplishment. There are also those who are dismissing this performance and claiming that Adebayo did not properly score 83 points due to his 43 free-throw attempts.

And then there’s Wembanyama, who basically ignored what Adebayo did and didn’t actually give his opinion on the 83 points.

“Yeah, I saw (it),” Wembanyama said of Adebayo’s game on Tuesday night before a long pause. “We play in a league where there’s a lot of motivation to watch. But yes, I watched.”

Of course, Wembanyama ended his answer in the most Wembey way possible and shrugged his shoulders and moved on to the next question about the San Antonio Spurs’ big 125-116 win over the Boston Celtics, which extended the Spurs’ winning streak to five games.

Although he’s not as animated or critical in his press conferences as Gregg Popovich was throughout his years with the Spurs, Wembanyama has never been one to share his full thoughts on things. He gives cryptic answers about his greatness, and that’s why we shouldn’t have expected anything different from his answer about Bam Adebayo on Tuesday night.

Perhaps Wembley leans one way or the other regarding Bam’s 83-point performance, but his answer was spot-on in the sense that he understands his opinion doesn’t really matter. Adebayo scored 83 points, whether people want to admit it or not, and for Wembley, this performance has no impact on him or the Spurs’ season.

That’s why his reply was short and sweet, with no additional context, sarcasm or anything of that nature.

Will Vembanyama use this as additional motivation to chase his scoring record? It’s certainly possible, but Wemby isn’t one to let the accomplishments of others dictate his career path.

Given the Spurs’ success this season and his own personal accolades, Wembanyama has more to worry about than Adebayo’s amazing performances for the Heat. And so, his response and shrug regarding Bam’s 83 points is exactly what one should have expected from Wembanyama.

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama’s emotional reaction after last week’s comeback win has been criticized by former NBA guard Jason Williams.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Whoopin’ N Hollerin’ Podcast, Williams called out Wembanyama after the 22-year-old became emotional following the Spurs’ 116-112 comeback win over the Los Angeles Clippers last Friday.

Williams initially believed that Wembanyama cried after the loss, but learned that the moment came after a win.

“I don’t like anyone crying over losing a game. Like, I get it… I care more than anyone. I want to win more than anyone.”

After it was corrected that Wembanyama had actually cried after winning the game, Williams doubled down on his criticism.

“That makes it even worse. I thought the dude lost… I won the World Championship in ’06 and the last thing I was thinking about was motherfucking crying. And he’s talking about Game 64 and he cried because he won?”

The moment came when San Antonio came back from a 25-point deficit to defeat the Clippers, one of the Spurs’ most dramatic wins of the season. Vembanyama led the comeback effort with 27 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, one assist and one steal, while shooting 11-for-21 from the field, 4-for-9 from three-point range and 1-for-2 from the free throw line in 22 minutes.

After the win, Wembanyama became emotional on the court and later explained the meaning behind the moment during the post-game press conference.

Speaking to ClutchPoints reporter Hector Ledesma, Wembanyama reflected on how far Spurs have come as a team.

“For me, it’s very meaningful, that win. It’s definitely not a game that I would have seen us winning two years ago. It’s actually a game that two years ago I would have seen us losing by 30 or 40.”

Williams wasn’t the only former NBA player to react to the moment. Patrick Beverley also commented on Monday questioning the response on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Despite outside criticism, Vembanayama has continued to produce one of the most impressive seasons of his young career. In his third NBA season, he has averaged 23.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, three blocks, 2.9 assists and one steal per game, while shooting a career-high 50.5 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range in 50 games with 41 starts, while playing 29.1 minutes per contest.

San Antonio is the second seed in the Western Conference with a 47-17 record and enters its next matchup on a four-game winning streak.

The Spurs will try to extend that run on Tuesday night when they face the Boston Celtics (43-21) at 8:00 pm ET on NBC and Peacock.

This was not the first time that Beverley had shed tears in reference to a sport. During the 2017 NBA playoffs, Beverley played with the Houston Rockets. In Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals, he played in the game right after his grandfather passed away. Overall, Beverley played in the NBA from 2013 to 2024. He is currently playing for PAOK BC in the Greek Basketball League.

Wembanyama, who led the Spurs to a 41-16 record entering their game against the Raptors, has been compared to an alien – meant as a compliment – ​​because his physical build and skill set seem almost unreal compared to normal players.

Wembanyama also got a new teammate this week with the Spurs signing free agent guard Emmanuel Miller to a two-way contract, according to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype.com.

The Spurs had all three of their two-way roster spots filled, so to make room for Emmanuel Miller, the team waived guard Stanley Umude. The team’s roster is now at 15 standard contracts and all three two-way.

The past few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind for Miller. After starting the season on a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls, he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers just before the deadline as part of a multi-team trade that included Keon Ellis and Dennis Schroder with the Cavs and De’Andre Hunter with the Sacramento Kings.

Miller was then cut by the Cavs and eventually signed by the Spurs. Over the past two seasons, he has appeared in a total of nine NBA games with the Bulls. He has yet to appear in a game with the Spurs this season.

As part of his season two-way contract, Miller has appeared in 27 G League games between the Windy City Bulls and the Cleveland Charge. He averaged 18.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals with splits of 54.6 percent shooting from the field, 33 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 69.9 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The Spurs front office is known for identifying untapped gems and overlooked players in the draft. So it’s worth keeping an eye on Miller’s development.

The play occurred early in the fourth quarter when Cade Cunningham took a hand-off from Jalen Duren, saw Duren hiding in the dunker spot and as he stepped up he hit him with a pass and threw a poster dunk on the unsuspecting Victor Wembanyama. This was an impressive feat considering Wembanyama’s length and size and his reputation as one of the best defensive players in the league.

The No. 13 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, this season has been a coming-out party of sorts for Duren. He was recently selected to the first All-Star appearance of his career, and his play has been a big reason why the Pistons have the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Coming into Monday’s game, Duren had appeared in 45 games for the Pistons, a little over 27 minutes per game. He averaged career-highs of 17.8 points, 10.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists while splitting 63 percent shooting from the field and 73 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

The Pistons are looking to avoid breaking their five-match winning streak in the match against the Spurs. They are currently 42–13 and are on top of the Eastern Conference standings.
