Despite a horrific sexual assault scandal, the Browns took a huge risk by trading for Watson. The risk didn’t pay off and actually backfired on him because his contract was a prop on his payroll and not tradable.

Recently, the Denver Nuggets got a boost when wing Peyton Watson returned to the lineup for their game against the Portland Trail Blazers at home. Denver won that game in spectacular fashion, with Watson finishing the night with 14 points in limited action off the bench.

The Nuggets will next take the field on Tuesday night for a road game against the Phoenix Suns, but unfortunately, Watson will be held out of this matchup due to hamstring injury management, as indicated by the latest official NBA injury report.

It’s certainly understandable that the Nuggets would want to be cautious in getting Watson back into the lineup amid an injury that kept him out of the lineup for nearly a month. For a time, both Watson and fellow Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon were sidelined with hamstring injuries, Gordon’s second such ailment of the season, and third in the past year, tied to the 2025 playoffs against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

When healthy this season, Watson has established himself as a key part of the Nuggets rotation, showing an improved offensive game and helping Denver hold down the fort in the absence of Nikola Jokic due to a knee injury.

He has the potential to significantly increase his value in the restricted free agent market this upcoming offseason, with some fans expecting him to take over Cameron Johnson’s starting job amid his struggles.

The Nuggets are currently tied with the Minnesota Timberwolves for fourth place in the Western Conference, and two games behind the Los Angeles Lakers for the third seed.

Denver’s game against the Suns on Tuesday night kicks off at 11:00 PM ET from Phoenix.

The Denver Nuggets are expected to get a key reinforcement ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, with guard Peyton Watson on track to return to the lineup after a lengthy absence.

Denver (43-28) hosts Portland (35-36) at 2:00 pm PT on NBA TV as the regular season enters a critical phase. The Nuggets currently hold the fifth seed in the Western Conference standings and are tied with the Houston Rockets (42-27) for fourth place, making each remaining game increasingly important for postseason positioning.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Watson is expected to return after missing more than six weeks with a hamstring injury.

“Denver’s Peyton Watson is expected to return Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers after missing more than 6 weeks due to a hamstring strain. Watson has had a breakout year for the Nuggets, averaging career-highs 14.9 points, 30.7 minutes and 4.9 rebounds, along with 2 assists, 1.2 blocks, 1 steal per game,” sources told ESPN.

Watson, 23, has emerged as a major contributor during the 2025-26 season, producing career-bests across the board. Through 49 games, including 39 starts, he has averaged 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, two assists, 1.2 blocks and one steal per game, while shooting an efficient 49.6% from the field and 41.7% from three-point range in 30.7 minutes per contest.

Peyton Watson’s return will boost Nuggets vs. Blazers at crucial juncture

His last appearance came on February 4 in a 134–127 double-overtime loss to the New York Knicks. In that game, Watson recorded 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block while shooting 4 of 13 from the field and 1 of 6 from beyond the arc during 33 minutes.

Watson’s return provides a timely boost for a Denver team that is trying to solidify its position in the tightly contested Western Conference. His two-way versatility, perimeter defense and improved scoring efficiency have played a key role in the Nuggets’ success this season.

As Denver prepares to face a competitive Portland team that is still within reach of a postseason picture, Watson’s availability could prove vital in maintaining momentum and strengthening the team’s rotation heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

The Denver Nuggets are on a two-game losing streak following losses to the Thunder and Timberwolves, but Jamal Murray is not discouraged. The team has been troubled by injuries to several key players, including Nikola Jokic, who was sidelined for 16 games with a left knee strain before returning. Nevertheless, the Nuggets found a way to remain among the top six teams in the Western Conference. But in February he had to face a lot of difficulties.

The Nuggets finished the month at 4–8, and despite picking up a big win over the Boston Celtics on Wednesday evening, their losses to both Western Conference finalists did not lift the spirits. But Murray believes the team will fully realize its true promise when Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson return.

“Obviously it’s disappointing. It’s unnatural, but that’s OK. Once we get healthy and figure it out … we’ll be good. I’m excited for what’s in store for us,” Murray said, per comments obtained by ClutchPoints Nuggets reporter Rachel Strand.

The absence of a key starter in Watson and a reliable role player in Gordon has diminished the championship-level depth the Nuggets often enjoy. Gordon has been ruled out of the last 16 games after a promising start to the season. Meanwhile, Watson is out of the last nine matches. Following the team’s matchup with the Jazz on Monday evening, they took a short break before beginning a tough stretch facing playoff teams in both the East and West.

The schedule in early March will be the biggest test for the Nuggets, and getting back healthy will certainly help them weather the upcoming storm of competition.

Four years ago, the Cleveland Browns “won” the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes by agreeing to a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed contract with the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback. But before they could get him to sign on the dotted line, the Browns had to send three first-round picks, a third-round pick, and two fourth-round picks.

Those draft picks join DT Jordan Davis, RB Jahmir Gibbs, WR Brian Thomas, WR Jalin Hyatt, RB Damien Pierce and TE Cade Stover. It has been considered the worst trade in NFL history, which is tragic for the Browns franchise, who were already quite desperate to make such a bold move for someone they thought would be their franchise quarterback for years to come.

Still, Watson has been nothing. He has yet to start more than seven games in a season with the Browns, and has started only 19 games in three seasons in Cleveland. He has completed only 61.2% of his passes for 3,365 passing yards, 19 TDs, 12 interceptions, while leading the Browns to a 9-10 record in the process.

Now 30, Watson is in the final year of his contract, but has a cap hit of $80.7 million. Given how poorly he has played as a member of the Browns, while also considering his tremendous cap hit, some have wondered if the new coaching staff would have no interest in keeping Watson as part of the new-look QB room.

Still, according to first-year head coach Todd Monken, it couldn’t be further from the case. Rather, he seems excited for the opportunity to work with Watson, and possibly even help the QB regain his signature look from his days in a Texans uniform.

If there’s any glimmer of hope that the Browns can still get some positive production from Watson, it’s up to Monken to figure it out. If not, Watson will be a free agent at the end of the 2026 season, and then the Browns can finally move on from their biggest mistake ever. Or, maybe Watson proves everyone wrong and returns to Houston as an MVP candidate.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently preparing for the unofficial second half of their season following the All-Star Game over the weekend. The Lakers are currently in a solid position in the Western Conference playoff picture, but are just two games above the play-in line, meaning things could get dangerous down the road.

Los Angeles had a relatively quiet trade deadline, trading Gabe Vincent to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for sharpshooter Luke Kennard, but did little to address his lack of defensive versatility.

Now, some people are already looking forward to the summer, when many three-and-D free agents will be on the market.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, an Eastern Conference executive said, “They need to bring in more defenders with length who can knock down a shot.”

“Unrestricted free agents who have been discussed internally, sources told ESPN, include Andrew Wiggins and Tari Eason, while Tobias Harris, Quentin Grimes and Dean Wade are other players who fit that profile,” McMenamin reported.

McMenamin also said that “the Lakers also privately discussed the signing of restricted free agent Peyton Watson from the Denver Nuggets.”

At this point, all indications are that the Nuggets plan to bring Watson back after his breakout campaign this season, although Denver ownership has a history of letting prized free agents walk out the door due to an unwillingness to go to some tax apron.

Last year, the Lakers had a solid two-way player in Dorian Finney-Smith, but he joined the Houston Rockets in free agency over the summer.

Currently, there is not a single player on the Lakers roster who is above average on either end of the floor, and many expect the problem to be exposed come playoff time, as it was last year.

The Lakers’ season continues on Friday evening against the Los Angeles Clippers.
