“I can play as a 6, 8, 10, out wide” – Aston Villa target is full of confidence

Aston Villa Goal Gabriel Sara is clearly enjoying a confidence boost in what he himself describes as a “magical” year.

are villas linked to galatasaray player in recent weeks, and the Brazilian’s latest interview only reinforces why clubs continue to follow him so closely ahead of the summer window.

Sara finished the season with six goals and five assists in 39 matches, while being used in several different midfield roles throughout the campaign.

talking to globo esporte After helping Galatasaray win another Turkish League title, Sara reflected on the season that took him from Turkish football to the Brazil national team setup and potentially into Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad.

The midfielder admitted that the dream of representing Brazil at the 2026 World Cup is now on his mind.

“Playing in the World Cup for Brazil is every player’s dream. It has been a childhood dream for me,” He said.

“I’ve worked very hard this season thinking about it, but I keep my feet on the ground. The manager will choose who he thinks is the best. If I’m there, I’ll give everything. If not, I’ll support Brazil as always.”

Sara also admitted that tension is rising over Ancelotti’s final team selection.

“There’s a lot of anticipation and even some anxiety knowing who will be on the team. I try to live one day at a time so I don’t get worried.”

Aston Villa goal talks about versatility

One part of the interview in particular may catch the attention of Aston Villa. Sara explained that he sees himself as a player who is capable of operating almost anywhere throughout the midfield and even out wide.

That flexibility has become increasingly valuable in modern squads, especially for clubs competing in multiple competitions.

“Whenever a manager has placed me in a different position, I’ve tried to learn as much as I can,” he explained.

“I’ve played as a right-back, left-back, holding midfielder, box-to-box midfielder, number 10 and winger. I think the only things missing are centre-back, striker and goalkeeper”He joked.

The comment explains why coaches trust him in various tactical systems. And this could be important for Unai Emery. A ‘Trade-off’ with Galatasaray involving Emiliano Buendia Reportedly a possibility, his versatility will be key to Argentina’s changing abilities.

The Brazilian then further expanded on the mentality behind that versatility.

“My focus has always been on helping the team. If I need to defend the whole game as a full-back, I will do that. If I need to attack all the time as a midfielder or winger, I will do that as well as I can.”

He then summarized it more directly.

“I think that versatility can also help in the national team because I can play at 6, 8, 10 and even as an out wide.”

“Magical” season and Champions League ambitions

Sara also described this campaign as the strongest campaign of her career so far. Former Norwich City player Appeared in Champions League matches, breaking into the Brazil setup and helping Galatasaray secure another title under great pressure.

According to the midfielder, those experiences pushed him to another level.

“I feel like I’m living the best moment of my career,” He said.

“The level of competition I have faced this season, from the Champions League to the Brazil national team, makes me feel like I am still at my peak.”

Sara specifically mentioned his experience with Brazil against France during the campaign, as well as facing clubs such as Liverpool and Atlético de Madrid.

There is also a growing feeling that the midfielder now looks far more mature and complete than the player English football previously saw at Norwich City.

The technical quality was already there in the Championship, but this season has added another layer of confidence and tactical maturity.

The emotional side of Galatasaray’s title win also clearly left an impression on him. “It was magical,” Sara said.

“For me, it was my second league title and my third trophy since arriving in Turkey. For the club, it was the fourth consecutive title, something that had not happened since 1997 to 2000.”

“The supporters were absolutely crazy with anticipation. We endured that pressure to some extent because we wanted to make people’s dream come true.”

What’s next for Sara?

Gabriel Sarra is attracting transfer interest from the Premier League

Yet, when talking about personal milestones, the Aston Villa target made it clear he believes there are still more to come.

“I’m happy, but not satisfied. I still feel I have a lot left to give and a lot of room to improve.”He said.

“I not only dream of playing in the Champions League, but also dream of winning the Champions League. I dream of playing in the World Cup, but my dream is to win it.”

This means Aston Villa’s Champions League push could trigger Signature of a great player In summer.

Best class in years, but the wide receiver room still needs answers

There is a version of this column that spends 700 words parsing each Las Vegas Raiders 2026 NFL Draft pick and finding reasons to hedge. It would take too much thinking on this. The Las Vegas Raiders had one of the best drafts in the NFL this weekend, and Jon Spytek deserves credit for running it like a front office with a real plan.

With how his first year unfolded, many in Raider Nation were skeptical about whether Spytek could be trusted with the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. After all, his first year, with former coach Pete Carroll, was filled with missed drafts and free agent misses. Yet, according to astute observers, there was something else at play.

No, 2026 was the first time we got a full glimpse of how Spytek, along with minority owner Tom Brady and some new scouting and front office staff, will run and build this thing. And, I must say, it was impressive.

Jon Spytek didn’t overthink it, he addressed key roster needs

NFL: Las Vegas Raiders press conference
Kirby Lee-Images Images

Start with the foundation: Fernando Mendoza was never going to be wrong at No. 1. Las Vegas is already building a real support system around him, including Tyler Linderbaum at center, Ashton Jeanty in the backfield and Brock Bowers at tight end. The job of picks two through 10 was to add that infrastructure and fix the secondary. They did both, and then some.

Treydan Stukes addressed two needs at once – nickelback and safety – and was a legitimate first-round pick heading into draft weekend. Stukes isn’t a sexy pick, but he is a functional guy, and in a draft where the Raiders had a long list of needs, picking the guy who covers the most ground makes sense.

At 91, Trey Zuhn III might have been the steal of the day. He posted the highest pass-blocking grade at 96.8 among all college tackles on Pro Football Focus, and the Raiders took him in the third round. He was announced as a center but played tackle at Texas A&M. As for his NFL career, the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Either way, he is a high-floor player protecting a rookie quarterback. You can’t argue with that.

Then the third day came and Spytek did not turn off the gas.

McCoy’s selection was off the charts

Jermod McCoy Las Vegas Raiders NFL Draft
Jacob Musselman-Imagen Images

Honestly, at 101 years old, Jermod McCoy feels like a steal. He was the 14th overall prospect on the consensus big board and shouldn’t have fallen that far. Length, pace, ball skills – he has everything you want in a modern cornerback. The knee injury concerns are real – there are a lot of questions about McCoy’s health, and that’s why he still sat out Day 3. But the Raiders liked him enough to trade up a spot, sending a 7th-rounder to Buffalo to make sure they got him. It’s about being aggressive, and when top-14 talent is sitting in the fourth round being aggressive is always the right decision. If McCoy is healthy, this selection looks like the best value in the entire draft.

Mike Washington Jr. adds versatility and physicality to the backfield. He ran a 4.33-second 40 and gave Ashton Jeanty a real running partner – someone who can contribute in the passing game and break tackles if needed. The attackers made a bargain to get him too. Again, perfect trend.

Before crowning the attackers, consider what didn’t happen

Don't Sell Jack Thornton Raiders

So, where does all this leave us? In a really good place, something you couldn’t say about this franchise 12 months ago.

That said — and this column will be honest — there are real questions that weren’t answered this weekend.

Wide receiver Malik Benson was taken in the sixth round. Sixth rounder. The Raiders brought in several top wideouts for Top 30 trips throughout the spring, only for it to play out as a smoke screen. Benson has 4.37 speed and is legit, but he is a developmental piece, not a solution. Las Vegas took Deonte Thornton Jr. and Jack Beech last year, and neither of them came off a screen. At some point, Mendoza is going to need a legitimate No. 1 target outside of Brock Bowers to make things work. That question is still open.

and the defensive tackle position – the Raiders finally addressed a gap at nose tackle with their final selection of the draft, Brandon Cleveland, in the 7th round. 7th round. He has good size and is a reasonable run stopper, but it’s hard to see him making a real impact as a rookie. Passing Tyree Wilson and answering the D-tackle position at pick 229 is a bet that the room is better than it looks. Maybe it is. But this is a condition.

None of this changes the overall verdict. The Raiders had a strong free agency period followed by a draft that would yield good grades throughout the league. Spytech was aggressive, targeted real needs and found value at almost every turn. For a franchise that has spent years drafting without direction, this weekend really felt different.

Ceiling questions at receiver and interior D-line are real. But the Las Vegas Raiders 2026 NFL Draft gave themselves a chance. After decades of head-scratching drafts, it’s a good place to be.

Washington Commander strongly linked to former All-Pro wide receiver

Since the offseason officially began, the Washington Commanders have been one of the busiest teams in free agency. He has focused firmly on upgrading a defense that ranked 27th in points allowed, but has also grown the offense. There may be more on the way.

The San Francisco 49ers are in “no rush” to part ways with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Still, it’s good to be gone. Schefter believes the 49ers are still hopeful they will receive some type of trade offer for the former second-team All-Pro.

The 49ers are playing the waiting game, hoping a team will get desperate enough to make a bid for Aiyuk, even if it’s a small trade return like a late Day 3 draft pick. Still, it’s better to get something than nothing for the 27-year-old receiver.

It’s also possible the 49ers saw the writing on the wall, and believe Aiyuk is waiting for a chance to join his old college quarterback Jayden Daniels in Washington.

As ESPN’s Nick Wagner recently pointed out, “Washington makes a lot of sense.”

“He played with Jaden Daniels in college,” Wagner wrote. “They’re very close. I’m sure Jaden Daniels would love to play with Brandon Aiyuk again, but I don’t think the 49ers are in a rush to move on from Brandon Aiyuk, even though we know they will eventually.”

Aiyuk did not play a snap in 2025 while recovering from a torn ACL and MCL suffered in 2024. Still, with the Commander seeing as Deebo Samuel’s contract expires this offseason, there’s no doubt they could use another pass-catcher in DC and if Aiyuk is healthy he could be a good fit.

New England Patriots sign $80 million wide receiver Drake Mays

The New England Patriots finally have a new wide receiver. The Patriots have agreed to a four-year, $68 million deal with free-agent wide receiver Romeo Doubs, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reports. If Dobbs reaches other incentives his contract reaches a maximum of $80 million.

The 25-year-old wide receiver has spent his entire NFL career with the Green Bay Packers. During the 2024–25 NFL season, Dobbs earned 55 receptions, 724 yards, and six touchdowns in 16 games. Dobbs has also played more than 13 games in every season of his NFL career with Green Bay. This is a big payday for one of the best wide receivers in free agency.

New England was linked to Alec Pierce before he re-signed with the Indianapolis Colts, so this is no surprise. Doubs was arguably the third-best wide receiver on the market behind Pierce and Wan’Dale Robinson, so $17 million per year and the potential for $20 million is an excellent deal for both sides.

The Patriots are also in talks with the Philadelphia Eagles regarding wide receiver AJ Brown, but that shouldn’t take them out of the mix. Brown has been New England’s top target, and the team was ready to add him and Stefon Diggs to the roster at the right price.

Doubs currently leads the wide receiver room and is followed by Kayshon Boutte, Kyle Williams, Mack Hollins and others. However, the Patriots’ offense would be elite if they could find a way to acquire a wide receiver that would put Doubs in the WR2 role. For now, former Packer Drake will serve as Maye’s top target.

Wide receiver was New England’s top need heading into NFL free agency, so Dobbs checked a box in replacing Diggs. Now, the Patriots will move forward with their other needs as they continue their pursuit of Brown.

Pittsburgh Steelers trade for 1,000-yard wide receiver

Last offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers traded one wide receiver for another, then watched George Pickens have a career year and become a superstar in the process. This offseason, the Steelers are potentially adding another wide receiver for Aaron Rodgers.

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to trade wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Colts agreed to a four-year, $114 million contract extension with Alec Pierce, who was set to hit the open market. Now, they are sending Pittman to free up some cap space.

The exact trade compensation is unknown, but the teams are reportedly swapping late-round draft selections. The Steelers are also signing the 28-year-old Pittman to a three-year, $59 million contract as part of the trade.

The 6-foot-4, 223-pound receiver had a peak season in 2023, catching 109 passes for 1,152 yards and four touchdowns. It was the second 1,000-yard season of his career. Pittman still recorded a respectable 80 receptions for 784 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

While he may not be a No. 1 receiver, Pittman profiles as a good fit next to DK Metcalf, giving Rodgers (if he returns) two big, strong receivers who can make plays in the red zone.

Marcus Freeman leaves door wide open for NFL exit from Notre Dame with new comments

With new comments from head coach Marcus Freeman it seems like a move from Notre Dame to an NFL team is not a matter of if, but when.

One of the big stories in football late last year was Freeman’s flirtation with the NFL. During his five seasons in South Bend, the 40-year-old has emerged as one of the best coaches in the country and his resume includes a trip to the championship game. Obviously, his impressive success in his first head coaching role caught the attention of NFL executives.

As the league’s teams searched for potential candidates for their head coach positions in December, Freeman was linked to several jobs, including the New York Giants. It started to seem like leaving Notre Dame for a pro job was a real possibility. However, at the end of the month, Freeman announced that he was not going anywhere and had in fact received a new deal from the university.

Nevertheless, there are still rumors that soon, the benefits of becoming an NFL coach will be too much, and he will leave the Fighting Irish in a bad way. During a new interview this week, Freeman didn’t allay the fears of Notre Dame fans who were worried an exit was on the way.

Marcus Freeman Record: 43-12

On Thursday, Freeman told NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo to “never say never” on the idea of jumping to the NFL, and that he “daydreams” about the idea with some regularity. Furthermore, he admitted that when he had introductory talks with teams in December, he used it to find out what franchises and executives wanted from prospective head coaches.

“If the time and opportunity is right, we’ll see what happens in the future,” Freeman said. However, he said he feels he has “the best job in America” and feels fulfilled in his role.

Unfortunately for Notre Dame fans, several great coaches leading various top programs across the country have said the same thing and all left. Fighting Irish fans need to enjoy and appreciate Freeman while they have him, because a move to the NFL is going to happen; It’s just about how long it takes.

5 wide receivers to watch this week

Nine years covering the Raiders. I’ve recorded more stories and done more podcast episodes about dysfunction, coaching changes and wasted draft picks than I care to count.

It feels different this week at the NFL Combine.

The Raiders enter the NFL Combine in Indianapolis with the No. 1 pick, a head coach who actually has an offensive identity, and real questions worth asking. BEST: Who is catching passes for Fernando Mendoza?

With several other needs on the roster, don’t be surprised if general manager Jon Spitek goes aggressive with the pick of Mendoza. The Raiders have the assets and cap space to move back in the first round, and wide receiver is the position that keeps coming up in those conversations. Clint Kubiak’s offense needs weapons. Brock Bowers is elite. Ashton Jeanty is going to be a problem for the defense. But Mendoza needs help from someone on the outside, and right now, that room is thin.

So with that background, here are five wide receivers I’ll be keeping my eye on all week at the NFL Combine.

Carnell Tate Ohio State

Cornell Tate Raiders NFL Combine
Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch/USA TODAY Network via Images

Watch this kid in action during receiver drills and you’ll understand why scouts can’t stop talking about him. Tate isn’t the biggest receiver in this class and he’s not going to blow anyone away with his 40 time. What he does is make the game easier. His route running is as polished as I’ve seen from a college receiver in years – fast breaks, precise footwork, and an almost supernatural ability to find the soft spot in a field. He averaged 17.2 yards per catch last season at Ohio State. Put him next to Mendoza and you’re immediately giving your quarterback a legitimate WR1 to grow from. He’ll be gone before he’s 25, maybe before 20. The Raiders won’t be able to catch him at age 33 unless something strange happens.

Jordan Tyson arizona state

Jordan Tyson Raiders NFL Combine
Mark J. rebilas-imagen images

This is the person I’m most looking forward to meeting this week and this is the person who irritates me the most. Tyson is as explosive as any other player in this class. His cornerback gets sideways when he comes off the line, and when he gets into his route, he’s really hard to cover. The problem has been staying healthy. He has never played a full college season. The combine medical will tell teams a lot, and if he gets a clean bill of health and performs well, his stock will skyrocket. He will not participate in on-field workouts due to health concerns. A healthy Tyson could be a legitimate top 10 pick going into the draft, but I expect him to miss. He is a risky prospect with massive upside.

Corn Lemon | USC

Makai Lemon Raiders NFL Combine
Troy Varinen-Imagen Images

Every analyst in Indianapolis is making the Amon-Ra St. Brown comparison right now, and I don’t think they’re wrong. Lemon is 5-11 and size concerns will follow him all week. But 79 catches, 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns last season is no small stat line. He runs perfect routes, catches everything, and absolutely punishes people after the catch. He averaged 502 yards after the catch alone in 2025. It is a weapon. For a young quarterback learning to navigate NFL defenses, having a receiver who consistently gets open up the middle and makes something happen once he gets the ball is invaluable. Check out his short-field agility numbers. If he pops athletically, the size conversation quickly cools down.

Denzel Boston | Washington

Denzel Boston NFL Combine
kevin image images

Whenever I think about what Las Vegas could realistically aim for, Boston is the name I keep bringing up. He’s right on the bubble between the end of the first round and the beginning of the second round, which puts him straight into play at pick 33 if he doesn’t make the expected run. At 6-3 and 209 pounds, he’s a competitive catcher machine – physical at the line, great hands, fighting for every ball. He gives a young QB a big target to rely on in tight windows. See him face to face. Big receivers either isolate themselves or get exposed in those practices, and Boston’s tape shows that he belongs.

Zakaria Branch Georgia

zacharia branch nfl combine raiders
Corey Perrin/Florida Times-Union/via USA TODAY Network Images

Branch is this week’s wildcard, and honestly, the most fun player to watch on this list. He’s small and his route tree is still developing, but if he goes sub-4.3 in the 40 — which some people think is possible — he becomes one of the most highly-touted players in Indianapolis regardless of position. That kind of speed opens up the entire offense. Kubiak used that kind of threat effectively in Seattle. Branch could be a Day 2 pick that ultimately becomes a steal.

The Raiders haven’t had this kind of draft capital or this kind of offseason clarity in a long time. Mendoza is the foundation. But who is standing outside him in line also matters equally. That picture begins to come into focus this week in Indianapolis.

It’s a good time to pay attention to the NFL Combine this week, Raider Nation.

NFL insider Malik Willis offers wide range for contract projection

On March 9, NFL teams will be able to begin negotiating with free agents. After two days they can sign the contract. One of the top free agents available this offseason is Malik Willis, who is set for free agency after two impressive seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

While Willis is unproven, he is viewed as one of the best free agent quarterbacks available. Some teams may also be looking at him as a potential starter after leading the Packers to a 2-1 record the past two seasons.

Of course, for every Sam Darnold success story, there are two or three others who don’t make it, like Justin Fields. Still, for teams that don’t have a franchise QB, taking a chance on a potential starter is often worth the gamble.

Many teams will be looking for a starting quarterback this offseason. As notes, Willis’ market will be driven by how many suitors he has in free agency. Thus, Willis contract estimates are quite scattered.

Florio suggests that Willis could “cash in” by receiving a contract ranging from $20 million per season to $40 million per year. However, their official prediction is that Willis ultimately signs a deal worth between $20 and $30 million per season.

“We estimate Willis will earn between $20 million and $30 million per year for the land – unless a land rush emerges. If that happens, who knows? $35 million? $40 million? (While $40 million sounds like a lot, it’s still only 66.6 percent of the current market range.)”

PFT’s Mike Florio on Malik Willis contract projection

Fields received a two-year, $40 million contract from the Jets last season. Now it appears that Willis, a former third-round pick who will be 27 when the season starts, could be considering a similar contract. But again, it all depends on how many teams are interested.
