Woods’ attorney, Douglas Duncan, filed a formal response this week, requesting an evidentiary hearing to determine the relevance of the records and, if the subpoena is ultimately granted, a protective order to protect the information from public disclosure. They argue that Woods has a constitutional right to privacy.

Duncan wrote, “This right is certainly not absolute; should the State show the relevance of the record to its criminal investigation and thus warrant an intrusion into Mr. Woods’s privacy, the State is not entitled to receive the record.”

Four days after the accident, Woods released a statement announcing that he would step away from golf for treatment and focus on his health. “I know and understand the seriousness of the situation in which I find myself today,” he wrote.

“I am taking some time away to receive treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

Court documents indicate Woods has already been cleared to travel abroad for treatment. The charge comes at a critical moment for the golfer, who has battled multiple back surgeries and other injuries in recent years and was preparing for a limited 2026 schedule that included the Masters. He will not compete at Augusta National this year.

The 50-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon after a rollover accident near his home on Jupiter Island.

According to the arrest affidavit, Woods attempted to pass a truck, striking the vehicle and flipping his Range Rover onto its side. No one was seriously injured in the incident.

Deputies observed signs of weakness while seated in the back of an air-conditioned vehicle, including bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils and excessive sweating.

Woods was charged with driving under the influence with damage to property and refusing a lawful test. A search found hydrocodone pills in his pocket, although a breathalyzer test showed he had no alcohol in his system.

He was booked into the Martin County Jail and later released on bond.

Thank God he’s at least taking some time to consider the implications of what’s happened here. Woods now has an extensive history of driving accidents, many of which involved prescription drugs.

He really needs to get it together. Not only for him, but also for his new girlfriend Vanessa Trump and their children.

The announcement and this latest accident come as Woods is recovering from multiple back surgeries and considering competing in upcoming events, including the Masters.

Further details about the timeline of his absence were not immediately available.

Tiger Woods finally returns to professional golf for the first time since 2024. On Tuesday night, Woods’ team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, lost to Los Angeles Golf Club in the 2026 TGL Championship. It was the 50-year-old’s first professional appearance since the 2024 Open Championship.

Over the past two years, Woods has battled an Achilles tendon rupture and is scheduled to undergo lumbar disc replacement surgery in October 2025. However, does this mean Woods could return to the Masters for the first time since 2024? This is not a guarantee.

“This body … it doesn’t heal like it did at 24, 25 years old,” Woods said after the TGL Championship. “That doesn’t mean I’m not trying. I’ve had some bad injuries here over the years that I’ve had to fight through and it’s taken some time. But I keep trying… I want to play [in the Masters]. I like tournaments. I’m going to be attending The Loop as well as the Champions Dinner happening there anyway. … We’ll see how it goes. “I’m going to practice this week, play at home and keep trying to progress.”

Woods did not give a timeline for when a decision would be made. The five-time Masters winner will soon have to decide whether he will participate in the tournament or not. The Masters is scheduled to start in about two weeks on April 9, so Woods will have to see how his body responds now.
