The Indiana Pacers will be without Ivica Zubac for the remainder of the 2025-26 season after the veteran center suffered a rib fracture.

According to Dustin Dopirak of the Indianapolis Star, Zubac suffered a concussion during Wednesday’s game and will not return this season.

“Recently acquired Pacers center Ivica Zubac suffered a fractured rib in Wednesday’s game and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season,” Dopirak reports.

“Zubac left the game with a head injury after being hit by an elbow from Portland center Donovan Clingan, but he also had an ice pack with him while speaking to media members after the game.”

Zubac played through the injury in Indiana’s 127–119 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers and finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one block. He shot 7 of 18 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line in 23 minutes.

Pacers’ frontcourt is vacant due to Ivica Zubac’s injury amid consecutive losses

The 29-year-old was in the early stages of his Pacers tenure after being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers at the trade deadline. In five games with Indiana, Zubac averaged 11.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 47.2 percent from the field in 23.6 minutes per contest under a minutes restriction.

Prior to the trade, Zubac was enjoying a productive season with Los Angeles, averaging 14.4 points, 11 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 43 games, including 42 starts, while shooting 61.3 percent from the field.

His absence leaves a significant void in Indiana’s frontcourt as the team is going through a difficult season. The Pacers enter the game at 15-55 and are in the midst of a franchise-record 15-game losing streak.

Indiana will try to regroup as it begins a two-game road trip against the San Antonio Spurs (52-18) on Saturday night at 8 pm ET.

With Zubac sidelined for the remainder of the season, the Pacers will likely turn to their remaining frontcourt options as they evaluate roster pieces heading into the offseason.

Ivica Zubac has performed well in all the last five games for the Indiana Pacers and has made a good start to his life as a member of his new team. Zubac was dealing with some ankle problems, and the Pacers were well aware of this when they brought him in via a blockbuster trade. Thus, it’s a pleasant surprise that he’s already back-to-back suits up for Indiana.

However, given that the Pacers have all the incentive in the world to not win a lot of games, given that they will give their 2026 first-round pick to the Los Angeles Clippers if it falls within the fifth to tenth selection, they are undoubtedly going to manage Zubac’s workload.

To that end, Zubac played only 23 minutes of their 117–109 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night, exiting the contest with 10:44 remaining in the fourth quarter due to a head injury. He did not return to the game, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds during his time on the court.

The Pacers will have two full days of rest before taking the court on Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs and for now, Zubac should be considered questionable for that game.

Zubac is going to learn how to play faster and expand his offensive game beyond the paint now that he is a member of the dangerous Pacers. This is invaluable time for Zubac and the Pacers, as he can become familiar with the system in a more low-pressure environment amid Indiana’s gap year.

Indiana invested a ton of assets in Zubac, and only time will tell how successful their move will be. Nonetheless, it’s easy to see why the Pacers brought him in, as he’ll play such sweet string music with Tyrese Haliburton when the floor general returns.

The game also marked former Clipper Ivica Zubac’s debut with his new Indiana team. However, during the game, LA lost one of its key centers to injury. According to Tomer Azzarly of ClutchPoints, Yannick Konan Niederhauser, who backed up Zubac in LA, missed the game with a foot injury.

Questions surrounding Ivica Zubac’s debut with the Indiana Pacers will remain unanswered for at least one more game.

Indiana listed Zubac out with a left ankle sprain on its injury report Wednesday morning ahead of the team’s game with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Pacers begin a four-game West Coast road trip in Los Angeles on Wednesday night at 10:30 pm ET.

The injury designation means Zubac will not face his former team as he continues to work towards his first appearance since being acquired at the February trade deadline.

Indiana acquired the 28-year-old center from the Clippers in a landmark deal that also included Pacers-bound forward Kobe Brown. Los Angeles received a package centered on Benedict Mathurin and Isaiah Jackson, along with two first-round picks in 2026 and 2029 and a future second-round pick.

Zubac was enjoying one of the most productive periods of his career before the trade. In 43 games with the Clippers this season, he averaged 14.4 points, 11 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, while shooting 61.3 percent from the field and 70.5 percent from the free-throw line. He started 42 of those contests and recorded 30.9 minutes per game, becoming a consistent interior presence.

Ivica Zubac Pacers debut delayed as Benedict Mathurin moves on with Clippers

His most recent appearance came on February 2 in the Clippers’ 128–113 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Zubac recorded eight points, nine rebounds, two assists and one block while shooting 3-for-3 from the field in 33 minutes.

Indiana continues to wait for the veteran center to debut as it looks to stabilize a frontcourt that underwent major changes at the deadline. The Pacers enter Wednesday at 15-46 and are looking for consistency during the final stretch of the season.

Meanwhile, Mathurin has begun to carve out a role with the Clippers following the trade. The 23-year-old guard has averaged 18.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in eight games with Los Angeles, shooting 40.2 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free-throw line while playing 30.4 minutes per contest.

Mathurin recently contributed in the Clippers’ 114-101 win over the Golden State Warriors. He finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, one block and one steal while shooting 6 of 13 from the field and converting all five of his free-throw attempts in 31 minutes.

Although Zubac will not make his debut against his former team in Indiana, the Pacers expect him to eventually take on an interior role as the organization evaluates its new-shaped roster following the deadline trade.
