tottenham hotspur Interest in Jan Paul van Hecke continues to attract attention in the Netherlands, with the Brighton defender reported to be eyeing a big move with a potential transfer.
Van Hecke has been highly regarded with Spurs over the past few weeks. Reports from the Netherlands and England have already made it clear that Tottenham are pushing to reunite him with Roberto De Zerbi.
They have already seen a bid of €40m rejected, with claims that Brighton are demanding up to €80m.
tottenham one step up
Some, like Raphael van der Vaarthave expressed doubts about that potential €80m fee. And journalist Mike Verweij also has his doubts. However, he believes it makes sense for Van Hecke to move to Tottenham.
"Whether he will ever reach that level (Van Dijk and Ake) remains to be seen," football scoop Report him saying this.
"But it's certainly a very logical move. Spurs have had a disastrous season, finishing below Brighton, but Spurs are a much bigger club than Brighton.
"So it would be a really good step in the development of that boy, to be able to train there under Roberto De Zerbi. I think he should definitely go for it."
brighton resistance
Although the move to Tottenham is being seen as a move, there is no sign that Brighton will approve it anytime soon.
The Seagulls appear to be resistant to any form of deal, despite the fact that Jan Paul van Hecke's deal expires next summer. So far, they have shown no desire to rush a sale to avoid losing the 24-year-old for free next summer.
€80 million is certainly an attractive figure. And Valentin Driessen admits it is a number that could push the transfer process forward.
"It could turn out to be a very long process. I think it's a big thing to ask of a player like Jan Paul van Hecke," he said.
