Dutch journalist Valentin Driessen appears determined to reject any comparisons in the Netherlands this week. and that means SunderlandBrian Brobby is now in their sights.
football primer report Comments from him today. And he wants to reject recent comparisons to Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Sunderland form and comparison
Brian Brobby is currently part of the Netherlands squad competing at the World Cup after an impressive debut season in the Premier League with Sunderland.
The 24-year-old joined the Black Cats from Ajax last summer. He established himself in Regis Le Bris's team, finishing the campaign with eight goals and one assist in 33 games in all competitions.
As a result he received much praise throughout the season. In fact, the tone and feeling around it A lot has changed in the Netherlands. He was often criticized during his second stint at Ajax when his form dropped significantly.
Driessen reduced comments
There have even been some comparisons to Ruud van Nistelrooy. But Driessen is not interested in heaping too much praise on the Sunderland striker.
"One of the guys said Brobby was having a great season. And if you heard it that way, he really was the new Ruud van Nistelrooij. That's obviously not true," he said.
"Brobbie struggled a lot early on. This was partly deliberate, to help him transition to English football, Sunderland and Great Britain.
"Later, he understood it quite well and scored many goals, but if we are only talking about goals, we should also mention Gian Fleming at Burnley."
Brian Brobby will now be determined to convince the likes of Driessen that comparisons to Van Nistelrooy are not as absurd as they think. The World Cup is the most appropriate platform to do this.
And since the Netherlands' forward line is still not under Koeman, there is a clear opportunity for him to take over as well.
