Tottenham given credit for inquiry into Argentinian goalkeeper – recent Spurs move raises doubts

tottenham Will now be linked with a move to Geronimo Rulli. However, the latest reports from the Argentine also raise an obvious question as to where the experienced goalkeeper would fit into Roberto De Zerbi's plans in north London.

TYC Sports Boca Juniors have reportedly made Rulli their priority target for the summer. The Argentine club has already received encouraging feedback from the player. As a result, they are now preparing to open talks with Marseille.

The report suggests that Marseille's financial situation could make a transfer easier, despite Rulli still being under contract until 2027. He is valued at around €8.6m (£7.4m).

However, Boka believes there are two major hurdles.

One is that Rulli could decide to return to Argentina only if he becomes a free agent, which would allow him to join Estudiantes. Alternatively, Tottenham are interested, with TYC Sports saying Spurs have already made an inquiry about the goalkeeper.

De Zerbi's trusted goalkeeper

A move would reunite Geronimo Rulli with Roberto De Zerbi after they spent the last two seasons together at Marseille.

The Argentine was De Zerbi's undisputed first-choice goalkeeper throughout that spell. In 2024/25, he made 34 appearances in the manager's first season at the club. He kept five clean sheets and conceded 47 goals.

He then remained first choice 39 times during the following campaign. Before De Zerbi's departure in February, Rulli kept nine clean sheets and conceded 52 goals.

That record shows that Rulli is a player the Tottenham manager knows and trusts well. If Spurs decide to make a move, it will not be for an unfamiliar choice, but for someone who has already spent two full seasons working under the Italian.

Where will Ruly fit in?

TYC Sports say Tottenham have made an inquiry for Rulli. However, it is not stated when these visions occurred.

This is important because in the last few days, Spurs have given up Antonin Kinski A new contract after finishing the previous season as the club's first-choice goalkeeper during the decisive run-in. Additionally, they have also agreed the arrival of Martin Dubravka on a free transfer to provide experienced cover.

william vicar There is still hope for a move this summer, but with Kinski established as Roberto De Zerbi's preferred option and Dubravka coming in as backup, Tottenham's goalkeeping department already appears far more settled than it was just a few weeks ago.

This naturally raises the possibility that the inquiries mentioned in Argentina were conducted before those conditions were resolved. Equally, De Zerbi's relationship with Rulli means there is still room for another move if Spurs decide their plans change before the end of the transfer window.
