chelsea's Rayo Vallecano's efforts to sign defender Pep Chavarría have hit a wall as the Spanish side continue to demand €50m.
AS reports that Chelsea They have offered €15m for the 28-year-old left-back as they look to replace Mark Cucurella. But Rayo considers that figure inadequate.
€15m is not enough
Sport Witness has covered reports over the past two days suggesting that Chelsea have turned their attention to Pep Chavarria this summer.
They need a replacement for Mark Cucurella, who left Stamford Bridge to join Real Madrid earlier this summer.
First report, on June 29threported that they had identified Chavarria as a possible replacement. It also added that contacts were already underway with Rayo Vallecano about a possible deal.

According to their information, Chelsea are currently offering €15m for the left-back. Xabi Alonso is a big fan of his and wants him as a replacement for Cucurella this summer.
But Rayo Vallecano is not interested in selling on the figures already presented. Instead, they are demanding €50m for their man. This is an assessment of his current release clause.
The Spanish side are refusing to negotiate, boosted by the fact that Chavarría signed a new deal at the club last year until 2030.

AS points out that this is nothing new for Rayo Vallecano either. He has traditionally protected himself with high release clauses to avoid parting ways with the team.
Just last summer he was seen behaving in a similar manner with wolves. They offered €18m for Andrei Raciu but it was rejected by the Spanish side. Instead he insisted that his €25m release clause be paid. The result was that the deal could not be done.
And currently, that appears to be what will happen with Chelsea and Pep Chavarría. Their current bid is nowhere close to what Rayo Vallecano wants.
