tottenham Lucas Bergvall may have decided he is not for sale, but the midfielder has now made it clear what he wants from next season after Sweden's World Cup exit.
Last week, the British press reported that Spurs had informed Bergvall that he would not be leaving this summer, despite speculation over his future during the World Cup. It seems Roberto De Zerbi personally told the 20-year-old that Tottenham have no intention of selling him.
Bergvall has now got the right to express his views. Speaking to a Swedish newspaper evening paper Following Sweden's elimination at the hands of France, the midfielder first reflected on the performance and his performance.
After becoming Sweden's youngest ever World Cup player against Tunisia at the start of the tournament, he was asked if this was his breakthrough with the national team.
"It's hard to say straight afterwards. You have mixed feelings," Bergvall replied. "But it felt like both me and the team were active from the beginning. We were in control and created some chances."
"But France were the better team and deserved to advance."

Naturally, the conversation then turned to Tottenham. Recent transfer gossip had suggested that Bergvall was considering leaving the club in search of more playing time, while other sources suggested that Spurs had already closed the door on that possibility. And this wave of speculation proved to be very tiring for him.
However, Bergvall chose his words carefully.
"I want consistent matches in my position. That's the only goal. We'll see what happens in the future"He said. "So far I'm only focused on the World Cup."
He was then asked directly whether he wanted to remain in the Premier League.
"Like I said, my focus is on the World Cup. Whatever happens next, we'll deal with it. I don't know – we'll see."
Those answers neither confirm nor deny anything. Instead, they reinforce a clear message: regular football in his preferred midfield role is Bergvall's priority.
new competition is coming
Lucas Bergvall's comments also come as Tottenham move to strengthen the same area of the team.
Spurs have reportedly agreed a deal with West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes... who plays in similar midfield positions to Bergvall, potentially creating even more competition for minutes next season.
Despite this, Tottenham's position appears solid. De Zerbi reportedly want Bergvall to stay, and the Sweden international remains a key part of the club's long-term plans after making 33 appearances in all competitions during the 2025/26 season, scoring one goal and providing four assists.
However, the player's own comments show exactly what he expects going into the new campaign. He wants consistent football, he wants it in his preferred position, and everything else can be discussed once the World Cup is behind him.
