Rocker struggled a bit in his second year in MLB. He pitched a career-high 64 1/3 innings and posted a 5.74 ERA. If he can find his rhythm and take the mound consistently, the Rangers will have the problem every team expects: too many good pitchers.

Charania wrote, “NBA officials expect that either the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Memphis Grizzlies will move East and realign the conferences with a 16-16 conference, when Seattle and Las Vegas become Western teams.”

It makes perfect sense to move the Grizzlies to the Eastern Conference, simply because they are already on this side of the field. They’re a team that belongs in the Western Conference, but is nowhere near the West. This would be a good sign for them to relocate to the East, as they would not have to travel far all the time, as they always have to do.

As far as the Timberwolves are concerned, this seems like another good option to head east, as they are more in the northeastern region of the US.

It will be interesting to see what the league agrees to, but first, the vote must be in favor of adding expansion teams. This could be a major win for the league, as industry executives have presented offers in the range of $7–10 billion for each team, and it is estimated that the Las Vegas and Seattle markets will be part of the NBA’s top eight revenue generators.

Johnson needs a fresh start, and his contract—with a cap hit of $1.4 million in each of the next two seasons—makes him even more attractive to other teams.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, a vote will be held next week on the possibility of expanding the league to 32 teams.

“The pace for stakeholders to approve the survey is based on what industry executives will bid in the range of $7 to $10 billion for each team,” Charania said.

“If the bids reach the required threshold the 32 teams will have a potential final vote at the end of the year to finalize the transaction. In both voting rounds, 23 of the 30 governors would have to vote in favor.”

There have been long-running discussions about starting a team in Las Vegas, with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James even rumored to be one of the owners, as it has rapidly emerged as one of the biggest sports cities in the country.

Whichever team Johnson’s group plays during its six games at the Frost Bank Center is a postseason contender that will likely at least make the play-ins. Three of those teams are widely considered to be among the best in the NBA.

Spurs role as postseason contender

San Antonio began their home games with a win against the Detroit Pistons, entering the night tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder for the fewest losses in the league. The very next night, the Spurs overcame a 25-point deficit to defeat a Portland Trail Blazers unit that is in eighth place in the Western Conference.

The Silver and Black then defeated the Houston Rockets by 25 points, who were in third place in the West at the time. Next came the Boston Celtics. Like Houston, Boston is in third place in its conference, and like the Celtics, the Rockets fell. Two nights later, without Victor Wembanyama, the Alamo City welcomed a Denver Nuggets team that was in fourth place in the West. This would prove to be the only game of six that the Spurs would lose as after Wembley recovered from an ankle injury, they defeated a Charlotte Hornets team that is in 10th place in the East. Loss-wise, Charlotte is five losses ahead of that last spot in the conference play-in spot.

“We’ve had to participate in a lot of different types of games, whether it’s getting a little open and covering a lot of distance defensively, matching some physicality in a lot of different ways, execution late in the game, seeing different ways for guys to defend us,” Johnson said of ClutchPoints’ tenure.

“You feel the intensity, competitiveness and urgency of (opponents on the home stand)… hopefully those lessons will translate into wisdom and knowledge as we move forward.”

San Antonio held Charlotte without a field goal for more than five minutes in the fourth quarter, defeating the Hornets 115–102 to close the home stand.

“I thought we settled in. Had a little ups and downs in the third quarter, got open a little bit, and it’s hard to save them when the game is like that.” Johnson said.

The Spurs’ first-year head coach added, “I thought we did a really good job of fixing our defense, even if it wasn’t weak.” “It’s always easy to get organized by moving away from artificial things, but I thought we did a good job of getting set up, staying connected and getting them ready to play through their counters; or just the beginning shooters trying to get a look because they’re very good at seeing those guys and progressing from that to the next guys.”

Going 5-1 after an 8-1 record during the Rodeo Road Trip to include two ‘home’ games in Austin gives the Spurs a 49-18 mark for the season. Johnson hopes it will serve his championship contender well.

“Hopefully all of these experiences are lessons that we will turn into knowledge and wisdom as we move forward.”

The LA Clippers are set to host the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, the third game of a tough five-on-seven stretch for the Clippers.

Seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard played in Saturday night’s game against the Sacramento Kings, but left the game in the fourth quarter due to a left ankle injury. After the game, the Clippers announced that Leonard was suffering from a left ankle sprain, and would be reevaluated.

Kawhi Leonard was unlisted on the Clippers’ injury report for Saturday night’s game against the Kings, the second game of a back-to-back set. Leonard had been playing in consistent sets this season when healthy, but sprained his left ankle for the second time after the NBA All-Star break.

Leonard is listed as “questionable” to play in Monday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs, and it appears he will be held out of the game. The LA Clippers are expected to make it official around 6pm PST, after Leonard has finished his usual pre-game workout routine and is evaluated by the medical staff.

Kawhi Leonard has played nine consecutive sets with the Clippers this season, indicating that he is healthy enough to play. In years past, the Clippers have kept him out of most back-to-back sets, but that was largely due to his injuries, such as a torn ACL, torn meniscus and knee inflammation, which caused him to miss the 2024 postseason.

Leonard has been mostly healthy this season, playing 53 of the Clippers’ 67 games so far, 10 of which were missed due to a severe right ankle sprain. Despite the injury on Saturday, Leonard surpassed Bob McAdoo with his 45th-straight games of 20+ points, setting a new franchise record. Leonard’s current streak is the second-longest active streak behind Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

“Passing McAdoo is a huge accomplishment,” Tyronn Lue recently said of Kawhi Leonard. “He was a really good player, great player, and it says a lot about Kawhi. When he’s healthy, you know, what he’s done this year is crazy. Someone asked the other day, ‘Have you seen someone do that in their 14th season, which is more than what they’ve averaged their entire career?’ And I said, ‘No, I’m not surprised.’ Because I see the work he does every day. I see what he does every night to get on the floor and try to play. He plays as healthy as he is. And it may take him a long time to do so.

This season, the Clippers are 30-23 in the 53 games Kawhi Leonard has played and 4-10 in the 14 games he has not played. Leonard is averaging 28.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals, while shooting 50.3 percent from the field, 38 percent from three and 90.6 percent from the free throw line.

So far, the Clippers have posted a 34–33 record, turning their season around to 28–12 since starting the season 6–21.

When it comes to the question of whether Kawhi Leonard is playing tonight against the Kings, the answer is probably no.

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Charlotte Hornets 115-102 on Saturday night before beginning their flight to Los Angeles. Monday night’s game represents the second of three matchups between the LA Clippers and San Antonio Spurs.

The Pennzoil 400 marked the fifth points race of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, providing the third winner to this point. We also saw some of NASCAR’s best drivers perform very well at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, resulting in things getting a little closer to normal in the weekly rankings.

Let’s take a look at our latest NASCAR Power Rankings coming out of Las Vegas.

1. Tyler Reddick (First: 1)

Tyler Reddick dropped out of the top 10 for the first time this season, finishing 13th in the Pennzoil 400. However, he scored record points in both stages, before the No. 45 car suffered a slight decline after the final pit stop. Despite his worst season finish, Reddick still tied for the fourth-most laps led (112) among top-10 (four) and top-5 (three) teams in the Cup Series and the top average finishing position in the Cup Series (4.8). Reddick is currently ranked No. 1 in the NASCAR Power Rankings, but he’s now in a position where he could be overtaken by Darlington.

2. Christopher Bell (First: 4)

Making it three consecutive top four finishes for Christopher Bell. The No. 20 car did not have the same pace as teammate Denny Hamlin, but Las Vegas consistently scored over 50 points with Bell taking the stage win. Bell did not just lead the Cup Series in laps (225); He is the first driver to complete 200 laps this season and has tied Reddick for the longest streak of top-5 finishes (three) this year. The disastrous performance at Daytona (35th place, 3 points) seems like a distant memory and it won’t be even a month until Joe Gibbs Racing has two race winners in 2026.

3. Denny Hamlin (1st: 6)

No one was beating Denny Hamlin in the Pennzoil 400. After finishing third in Stage 1, he dropped to the back of the field (31st) on the restart for speeding on pit road (50.03 mph). It didn’t take long for the No. 11 car to get back into the top 15 and finished Stage 2 in fifth place. At that point it was clear that no matter who had the fastest car on Sunday, Hamlin was headed to victory. After running at the front of the field at Daytona and Atlanta, but falling back due to car damage from wrecks caused by his teammates, Hamlin now has three consecutive top-10 finishes with an average finishing position of 5.33 and a total of 145 points during that span. Oh, he’s also now headed to Darlington where he’s a spring season winner.

4. Bubba Wallace (First: 3)

We’re five races into this season and Bubba Wallace still has the second-most points in the Cup Series. Part of that is certainly due to the stages, as he became the first driver to score 50 stage points this year. That said, it’s also worth acknowledging that Wallace ranks sixth in laps led (86), he’s tied with Kyle Larson for the highest average spot in mid-race (7.60) and he leads the game in quality passes (690). That leaves you with a driver who has had the most top 10 finishes (four) on road courses with a season-worst finish of 11th.

5. Chase Elliott (First: 7)

The only driver who made Denny Hamlin sweat a little in the final stages was Chase Elliott. It says a lot about where this No. 11 car is, as Las Vegas Motor Speedway has not been particularly kind to the team in recent years. While Elliott did not perform particularly well in the stages on Sunday (3 points total), the adjustments made put him in position to challenge Hamlin at the end. Leading up to Darlington, Elliott has finished 11th or better four times with more than 33 points in each race. Phoenix (23rd) was clearly an example of a flawed game plan, but Elliott is back on track to win the regular season championship.

6. Kyle Larson (1st: 5)

Kyle Larson won his first NASCAR race in 2026, most recently in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. At a track where he has historically dominated, Larson finished second in both stages (18 points) and led the second-most laps (62 points), but he lost a bit of balance with the car in the final stages and he finished seventh. Larson’s average finishing position over the last three races is 5.333, but the No. 5 team is coming up just short of the finish line. It’s only a matter of time before that changes and his OARS win on Saturday showed he can still find victory lane even when he doesn’t have the best car.

7. Ryan Blaney (First: 2)

After the win in Phoenix, Team Penske was not having it at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It’s a testament to Blaney’s driving that he finished sixth on the same day Joey Logano finished 21st, and we saw that carryover on Sunday. Blaney scored two stage points (ninth in Stage 1), but fell to the middle of the pack and finished 16th in the Pennzoil 400. Through five races, Blaney finished outside the top 15 twice with one win and two top 10 finishes.

8. William Byron (before: 8)

William Byron had his best performance of the season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, scoring his first top-5 finish of the year and scoring 49 points in the process. While the No. 24 didn’t have the pace to catch Hamlin in the long sprint in the final stages, there were some great battles earlier in the race. Byron and Hendrick Motorsports are righting the ship after three consecutive races outside the top 10, and he’ll likely climb the NASCAR power rankings in short order.

9. Ty Gibbs (previously: unranked)

It certainly seems as if the commentary surrounding Ty Gibbs in the Spire Motorsports-Joe Gibbs Racing legal battle has lit a fire for the young driver. In the first two races of the season, Gibbs scored a total of 15 points with an average finishing position of 30.0. The No. 54 car is now coming off a three-race run with 123 points and an average finishing position of 4.333. Gibbs, 23, is certainly starting to look like the driver his grandfather always believed he could become. A first career Cup Series win remains elusive for Ty, but it’s impossible to ignore how well he has performed of late.

10. Chase Briscoe (Previously: Unranked)

Chase Briscoe managed to finish eighth in the Pennzoil 400, truly one of the most impressive performances of the weekend. Due to a poor start to the season, which affected the metrics for qualifying order, he was part of the first qualifying group and started 18th on Sunday. Things got worse for the No. 19 team, as Briscoe received a speeding penalty in Stage 1 and then a penalty for pitting outside the box in Stage 2, resulting in him spending most of the race a lap down. He was successful in making a comeback in the top-10. He still has two DNFs on his record this season, but Brisco’s driving when the car isn’t being seriously damaged is reminiscent of last season.
