The Jays are hungry to get back to the Fall Classic after coming so close to winning it all, and they have certainly made the right steps to repeat as American League champions.

Perennial MVP Aaron Judge and Stanton will definitely (as usual) hit a ton of home runs. Chisholm Jr. is trying to go 50-50 for the second time in MLB history. And the Yanks did a good job of retaining free agent Cody Bellinger despite lengthy talks about his departure.

Whether or not they achieve all of those goals, this is a club that won 94 games last season and is seeking a return to the Fall Classic in 2024 after losing to Los Angeles. They’re definitely ready to make a run for it.

To say the Sox had an active offseason would be to sell general manager Craig Breslow a bit. After clinching a postseason berth in 2025, they lost to the rival Yankees in a three-game wild card series.

Their only major departure from the starting group is Alex Bregman who will be replaced by NL Rookie of the Year finalist Durbin at third base. The crowded outfield lineup will make the math difficult (especially for outfielder Masataka Yoshida). But this is arguably the Sox’s greatest strength, with Duran, Rafaela, Anthony and Abreu being some of the best outfielders in the game.

Additionally the Red Sox are excited to see Story have a full healthy season at shortstop, with Contreras starting behind Tristan Casas for the first time. This club’s attack looks stronger than in recent years, and (in a competitive division like this) they will need all the help they can get.

Last season was a major disappointment for Baltimore, with the club finishing last in the AL East after making the postseason in both 2023 and ’24. This led to the firing of manager Brandon Hyde midway through the 2025 season.

The O’s needed to prove something to their fans in the offseason, and they did. They traded pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez to the Los Angeles Angels for outfielder Taylor Ward. They then signed top free agent Pete Alonso to take care of the cold corner. They finished their lineup moves by trading Alexander to play second while Jackson Holiday is dealing with an injury.

They have had great young players come through (Henderson, Rutschman, Cowser, Beavers), but their results last season were disappointing and inconsistent. If they can put it together again, and the pitching holds up, they will run the AL East standings once again.

So far, the Rays have their star slugger, with All-Star third baseman Junior Caminero returning after the Electric World Baseball Classic with the Dominican Republic. But there isn’t a lot of help behind that.

They traded him to the Pittsburgh Pirates to play second base after dealing Brandon Lowe, and they signed Mullins to help their outfield. Speedster Chandler Simpson will return to the club after surprising MLB with his ability to run around the diamond, and Yandy Diaz provides the club with a helpful veteran presence.

Don’t get your hopes up too quickly for a Rays postseason run just because they’re back at Tropicana Field. But, at least, there is hope for the near future.

SAN FRANCISCO – If things couldn’t get any worse for the Golden State Warriors, already a team without stars Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, it did in a 127-117 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.

Al Horford, Quinton Post and Seth Curry all sat out Golden State’s fourth consecutive loss. And before that, Draymond Green was scratched 20 minutes before the game started. That left the Warriors struggling for healthy bodies as T-Wolves star Anthony Edwards finished with 42 points on 13-22 shooting.

After the game, Dubs coach Steve Kerr acknowledged how depleted and injured the Warriors were at the moment as they fell to 32–34 on the season.

“We’re definitely going through it,” Kerr said. “But you saw how hard the guys played and stuck in it and got the fans into it. And we can’t ask for anything more from our players right now. What they’re giving as far as effort and playing together. But yeah, we lost just as well as any team I can ever remember.”

Beating is an understatement.

With seven players out due to injury, the Warriors were missing more than $160 million in salary. That’s about 70% of their $233,853,209 payroll. And to add literal insult to injury, this latest skid has allowed the Los Angeles Clippers to overtake them for the eighth seed, leaving them just a half-game ahead of the Portland Trail Blazers in 10th.

However, it remains to be seen whether these latest injuries will persist.

Kerr had no update after the game on Green, Post or Curry. As far as Horford is concerned, Kerr had few details regarding the veteran big man’s situation. While the team announced during the game that Horford was out due to right calf soreness, Kerr described Horford’s injury as a “strain” after the game.

“With a calf strain, I don’t know how long Al will be out,” Kerr said. “But I hope that with the calf, we won’t have to move him back too quickly.”

With Horford potentially out for a while, Kerr hopes to turn to Kristaps Porzingis for starts in the meantime. Porzingis, who has battled injuries this season and throughout his career, has had some encouraging games after missing six consecutive games due to illness. Porzingis finished with 20 points in 19 minutes of action, the most points he has scored in his four games for the Warriors.

“Feeling fine,” Porzingis said after the game. “Step by step, just trying to get back into really good shape. Still got a way to go, but happy with the progress so far.”

Captured the fort for the Golden State

In the meantime, the onus will be on Porzingis and the rest of the healthy Warriors to deal with this latest storm of injuries.

But with injuries also come opportunities. Brandin Podziemski, who has excelled in basketball since Curry’s passing, understands that common NBA adage.

“I look at it as a blessing in disguise,” Podziemski said optimistically after collecting 25 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

“Just because it’s an opportunity and you’re able to build confidence when you’re out there, especially when there’s no expectations, and people are probably expecting us to lose. So it’s a blessing to me that when other guys come back, that confidence you build, you can be ready to show when you come back as well.”

There is an obvious concern that due to not having enough healthy bodies, the remaining players may get tired from the extra workload. But Kerr isn’t too worried about that potential issue. He pointed to the medical staff’s diligence in monitoring that potential problem and the youth of the remaining players.

Despite this, Kerr is keeping an optimistic outlook, presenting this latest round of injuries as something he has to get past.

“I feel like there are really brighter days ahead,” Kerr said. “So you just have to go through a tough situation.”

Former Anderlecht manager Besnik Hasi has revealed he strongly opposed the club’s decision to sign Yasin Ozcan last summer – now he believes the move reflects deeper problems behind the scenes.

Hassi argued that the team lacked leadership, saying: “Personality and quality – that’s what Anderlecht needed.”

“A leader, because our defense was young after Jan Vertonghen retired. And then you finally bring in Mihajlo Ilic and Yasin Ozcan? Two boys who still need to train. I was not in favor of that, no.

When challenged on Izcan’s Premier League background, Hasi rejected the claim: “He didn’t come from Aston Villa. He came from Kasimpasa. He didn’t play a single second for Villa.”

What happened to Yasin Ozcan after Anderlecht?

Although Hasani’s comments may seem a bit harsh, he may have a point considering what happened to Ozcan this season.

He headed to Belgium in the summer but struggled to settle or impress Hassani. There were also reports that he was struggling with language difficulties.

As a result, Aston Villa recalled him in late January. But instead of keeping him at Villa Park, they immediately sent him on loan to Besiktas. That deal includes a buyout obligation at the end of the season.

He was part of the big conversation that took Tammy Abraham to Aston Villa. Villa’s willingness to include him in that deal arguably underlines how limited his value was, and lends credence to Hasi’s criticism.

Hogg scored 27 goals and provided nine assists in 49 appearances in all competitions in 2025. This includes 17 goals and five assists in 28 league games and an average of 0.96 goals per game, and this drops to 0.83 without penalties.

The 25-year-old has impressed in the Champions League in 2026, scoring five goals and providing two assists in five matches.

This included a goal in Bodo/Glimt’s 3–1 win over Manchester City, a goal in the 2–1 win over Atlético Madrid, a goal and two assists in the 3–1 win over Inter Milan. He failed to make an immediate impact in the return leg against the Serie A team, but the Norwegian club knocked them out of the competition.

In the last 16, he scored again in a 3–0 win over Sporting. His goals will help Bodø/Glimt book a place in the Champions League quarter-finals, unless there is a new shock in the return leg. The Dane achieved this because his club blocked him from joining Norwich City.
