One player who has been a big help for the Hawks since January is CJ McCollum, and he seems to fit in well with what the team is trying to accomplish. Quin Snyder recently made the move to insert him into the starting lineup, as statistics show he is a much better team when he plays with Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu.

Players also see the difference McCullum makes when he is on the field.

“From an experience standpoint, we have CJs who are experienced, and the same thing with nickel, Okongwu said. “They’re leading us to better basketball, we’re having fun out there.”

“C.J. has been great for us,” Daniels said. “That vet presence, a guy who can make things happen. He’s a leader for us. A guy we can rely on, a guy who can get a bucket when we need to. It’s been really good to have him.”

When the Hawks needed a bucket, McCollum was there to make the save many times. This is what he has done throughout his career, and he is helping the Buckeye Hawks as they try to climb the Eastern Conference standings.

Snyder believes the Hawks have found something with McCollum and the other newcomers to the team.

“There was a period of about a week or two where those guys were really trying to figure it out,” Snyder said. “The thing that allows teams to come together is to bring yourself to the team and not be able to worry about a lot of numbers. I think those guys have really started to embrace that, and it makes the whole greater than the sum of the parts.”

The Hawks are clicking at the right time of the season, and if they take care of business, they could find themselves higher than the ninth seed by the end of the year.

While the Golden State Warriors fell just short to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a narrow 114-107 loss on the road, the fact that they got Kristaps Porzingis back on the hardwood is enough to ease the pain of the loss.

After Porzingis missed the last six games due to a mystery illness, the big man finished with nine points, five rebounds and five assists in 23 minutes of action.

In just his second game with the team after the Warriors acquired him at the trade deadline for Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield, Porzingis, understandably, looked far from the elite, two-way, big man he may be at his ceiling. At times, he seemed to struggle to find his sea legs in the Dubs’ unfamiliar offensive and defensive systems. And the big man looked disappointed after nearly three weeks away from live NBA basketball.

But overall, it was an encouraging step in the right direction for the big man as he played hard, banged in the post and gave Golden State a much-needed threat on offense.

“I thought he looked like a guy who hasn’t played with any rhythm at all,” Kerr said cheekily after the game.

“But I thought he looked good physically. It’s a really encouraging night for him to play 23 minutes. I talked to him after the game, said he felt good. And it was really fun to watch him. LOS ANGELES – After a disappointing loss against the Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers got back on track with a 1128-117 win against the Indiana Pacers on Friday. Luka Doncic led the Lakers with a game-high 44 points, but it wasn’t their offense that he wanted to talk about following the game.

Throughout the season, the media and fans alike have talked about Luka Doncic’s offensive game, but there has been very little mention of his defensive impact for the Lakers. So much so that it has actually become an underestimated part of his skill-set.

“I know people will never talk about it. Just trying to do my job,” Doncic said during his postgame press conference. “Trying to be more offensive, trying to be more engaged. Just trying to be better defensively.”

Doncic’s defense was certainly on display during the Lakers’ win against the Pacers. He finished with two blocked shots and three steals, including an impressive block where he hit Pacers guard Aaron Nesmith who thought he could get an easy look at the basket. The block immediately caused the Lakers’ fast break.

Doncic carries a huge offensive load for the Lakers, and he is very explosive when it comes to scoring the basketball. Perhaps that’s why it’s easy to overlook his defensive impact. But the numbers don’t lie. When it comes to regular rotation players, Doncic is second only to Jared Vanderbilt in defensive rating at 114.4, according to StatMuse.

Vanderbilt is easily one of the Lakers’ top defenders; You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who disagrees. But Doncic also deserves some credit for his role on the defensive end. And for head coach JJ Redick, it’s not just getting stops or steals or blocks that measures Doncic’s impact.

Banchero shared the comments Saturday after leading the Orlando Magic to a 119-92 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 22-year-old forward finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds and three assists while shooting 10 of 18 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in 35 minutes.

After the win, Banchero was asked about Tatum’s return to the court.

“It was great to see him out there. I just have to give him a lot of credit. I think his mentality was there from the beginning when he first got injured, I watched him over the summer and you could tell he was going to try to get back sooner than everyone thought. I didn’t know it would happen this season, but you could tell he was already working, even right after the injury.”

Alex Sarr and Trae Young received positive news regarding their injury statuses for the Washington Wizards’ upcoming matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Young is in the eighth season of his NBA career, his first with the Wizards. He began the 2025–26 campaign with the Atlanta Hawks before they traded him to Washington in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert. The four-time All-Star made his Wizards debut on March 5 against the Utah Jazz.

The Atlanta Hawks achieved a franchise milestone after a 125-116 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.

Atlanta has been an active franchise for 77 seasons since its inaugural campaign in 1949. He has experienced many victories throughout his lifetime so far, making 49 playoff appearances and even winning a championship.

All those wins allowed him to reach the peak of 3,000 wins, needing one more win to reach this milestone. Only five other teams have accomplished this feat, making it even more significant when Atlanta defeated Philadelphia to clinch the home win and make history.

“Tonight’s win, Atlanta’s season-best sixth consecutive win, marks the Hawks’ 3,000th franchise win, becoming the sixth team in NBA history with 3,000 wins,” the post read.

How the Hawks played against the 76ers

The Hawks took care of business and continued their active winning streak after defeating the 76ers.

Atlanta got off to a slow start defensively and trailed 38–28 after the first quarter. Despite this, the hosts got back on track by taking control in the second half and outscoring Philadelphia 59–43 in the final 24 minutes of regulation.

Five players scored in double figures for Atlanta in the win. Jalen Johnson demolished Philadelphia’s defense with a stat line of 35 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. He made 12 of 19 shots from the field, including 2 of 4 from beyond the arc and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line. Nickeil Alexander-Walker came next with 24 points and six assists, CJ McCollum had 17 points and seven assists, while Dyson Daniels put up 15 points and nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Onyeka Okongwu provided 10 points and six rebounds.

Atlanta improved to a 33–31 record on the season and finished ninth in the Eastern Conference standings. They are above the Charlotte Hornets and Milwaukee Bucks while trailing the 76ers and Miami Heat.

Riding a six-consecutive win streak, the Hawks will be looking forward to their next contest. They will be at home when they host the Dallas Mavericks on March 10 at 7:30 pm ET.

LeBron James was officially listed as questionable on the Lakers’ injury report for the team’s game against the Knicks. While he has been dealing with foot problems all season, James suffered a hard fall last Thursday against the Nuggets and the team reported it as a left elbow injury.

In addition to James, backup center Maxi Kleber was also upgraded to questionable. Kleber also missed the Pacers game due to a back strain. Starting center Deandre Ayton, who was sidelined for the Pacers’ win with a knee injury, no longer appeared on the injury report.

While the Lakers have managed to pick up some wins in recent games, they have struggled against teams with winning records. The Knicks pose such a challenge as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Having James potentially back in the lineup is a big boost.

Black was subbed out early after playing only two minutes in the contest. The third-year guard recorded one rebound and one steal during that brief span, while missing both of his free-throw attempts. Orlando later ruled him out for the remainder of the game with what the team described as a “lower back strain.”

Mosley indicated that the play in which Black initially suffered the injury occurred during a drive to the basket.

“I think when he went to the basket, I think he caught his shoulder on that play where they called the foul. I think it might bother him in a little different way. He’ll be tested and we’ll see how he progresses.”

Black recently suffered an injury shortly after returning from another concussion. The 22-year-old missed two games earlier in the week with a quad injury before rejoining the lineup.

Despite those setbacks, Black is enjoying the most productive season of his young career. In his third NBA season, he is averaging a career-high 15.5 points with 3.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He is shooting 45.1% from the field and 33.9% from 3-point range in 59 appearances, including 39 starts, while averaging 31.2 minutes per contest.

Black’s development has been a key component for Orlando as the team continues its push toward the postseason in the Eastern Conference. The Magic’s win over Minnesota marked their third consecutive win and helped improve their record to 34–28.

With the result, Orlando moved up to the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference standings. The Magic are currently tied with the Philadelphia 76ers (34-28) for sixth place and just one game behind the fifth-seeded Toronto Raptors (35-27).

Orlando will look to continue its momentum when the road trip concludes Sunday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. Milwaukee is entering the matchup with a 26-35 record and is currently on a four-game losing streak.

It remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old will maintain this look, but it can’t be denied that he feels good with it as he talked about it last Tuesday, saying that it was inspired by teammate Jevon Carter.

“Good vet. I think the way he works every day is top notch. He’s definitely one of the hardest workers I’ve ever been around. I cut hair in the light of Jevon. I’m trying to follow in his footsteps with the bald,” Suggs said, according to Jason Beede.

Suggs added, “I love bald people.” “But yeah, new change, new evolution. It’s like when Aang cut his hair in Season 3 [referencing the show “Avatar: The Last Airbender”]. “That’s how I feel.”
