According to Divine Sports Gospel, the San Diego Padres are reportedly calling up Sung-Mun Song for tonight’s game against the division-rival San Francisco Giants. Song previously made his MLB debut last week during the Mexico City Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He only pinch-run and did not have an at-bat in the game.

Song was the Friars’ biggest offensive tackle this offseason, signing a four-year, $15 million deal with the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO). After missing his ramp-up due to an oblique injury, he was demoted to Triple-A to get used to facing MLB pitching.

He has performed relatively well in Triple-A. Song combined for a .293/.364/.354 slash line with a respectable (albeit slightly lower) .718 OPS. But the underlying numbers are not the same as Song’s. Being limited to singles, he hasn’t made too much hard contact on his hits. He has only four extra-base hits in 25 of 29 games played in El Paso.

Roster transfer still necessary

The Padres will either have to send someone down or move him to the IL for a call up. It has been speculated that the move could come in the form of starting second baseman Jake Cronenworth. He had a disappointing start to the year, batting .144/.272/.468. This basically assures the Padres of an out every time he comes to the plate. His glove is solid, but not good enough to keep his ice-cold bat in the lineup. He was hit by a pitch last night and could be sent to the IL to make room for Song.

Song was initially signed for the Friars as a utility option, capable of playing any position defensively (except catcher). It is likely that this will be on full display if he is called upon for longer periods. That being said, for now, it seems more likely that he will become the starting second baseman.

Whatever the case, Song likely won’t magically move up to the big league level after a lackluster performance in Triple-A. But reportedly that is why he is not being called. The truth of the matter is that San Diego will do anything to get out of the recession it is in. Song could perhaps provide something new that will re-energize these Padres.

Sometimes the best way to start over is to start somewhere new. At least, that’s what Robbie Jarventy might be thinking.

Hockey club Ambari Piota announced that they had signed Jarventi early on May 5. The Switzerland-based team released a statement following the addition of Jarventi, one of three signings announced by the team.

“Hockey Club Ambro Piotta is pleased to announce that it has extended the contract of forward Michael Jolley to 2028 and has signed forwards Nate Schnarr and Robbie Gerventi until the end of the 2027/2028 season,” the statement begins. “Robbie Jarventi, a Finnish forward, born in 2002 and drafted in the second round by the Ottawa Senators in 2020, developed his career in the Ilves youth academy, where he made his Liiga debut. He made 58 appearances in the Finnish top division, scoring 27 points.

The statement further said that these signings reflect the identity they want to give to their team.

He added, “These moves are in line with the club’s strategy for a new blue and white era.” “The sports department has identified players with clear and recognizable identities, who are capable of keeping the team at the center and playing with a sense of sacrifice and responsibility. We believe we have chosen the appropriate profile to ensure continuity on the path we are on, thereby creating a solid foundation on which to build the future.”

Jarventi’s 2025–26 season was much better than his injury-plagued 2024–25 campaign. In 61 AHL games for the Bakersfield Condors, he recorded 23 goals and 24 assists for 47 points. The forward added two assists in three AHL playoff games.

Jarventi’s one-year, $775,000 contract with the Oilers officially expires on July 1, 2026.

Habs rookie Ivan Demidov has been named a finalist for the Calder Trophy, awarded annually to the best first-year player in the league, after winning a tightly contested series against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

The 29-year-old Demidov finished the year as the highest-scoring rookie in the NHL with 19 goals and 43 assists in 82 games. He will be matched up against Matthew Schaefer (New York Islanders) and Beckett Seneca (Anaheim Ducks), two very solid rookies in their own right.

This is the second consecutive season a Canadian player has been a finalist for the coveted trophy, with phenom Lane Hutson taking it home after a tremendous campaign in 2024-25 in which he scored 66 points on Montreal’s blue line.

This is the second consecutive season in which Demidov will be in contention for the Rookie of the Year award in any professional hockey league. He was awarded the KHL Alexei Cherepanov Trophy, the Russian equivalent of the Calder Trophy, in the KHL last year.

Demidov was the most productive player of the first year, but according to many analysts this would not be enough to capture the trophy. Christian Welch, linebacker

Green Bay certainly has a lot more depth at linebacker than in years past. Unfortunately for former UDFA Christian Welch, the Wisconsin native’s only hope of remaining in Green Bay may lie on the practice squad. He appeared in eight games for Green Bay last season, primarily on special teams. There is every possibility that he will be cut in September and given a spot on the practice squad.

Marshon Lloyd, running back

Since being selected with the 88th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Packers running back Marshon Lloyd has appeared in just one game with the team. Injuries never allowed him to prove himself at any point. Theoretically, Lloyd would be a perfect fit to step into the No. 2 role behind Josh Jacobs for the upcoming season. It’s just his inability to stay healthy that leads us to believe that something, possibly a soft-tissue injury, will sideline him during the summer. Plus, his big season comes at the perfect time for him. He is in the final year of his contract and is set to become a restricted free agent this summer. The expectation for several months has been that the Pistons will match whatever offer they receive. However, the franchise has always been on the conservative side when it comes to spending. And when it comes to Duran there’s one place they’re not willing to go.

Ahead of the 2025 NFL season, Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst felt strongly that his team was ready to compete for the Super Bowl. Thus, he made the biggest trade of his career by sending two first-round picks to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons.

Gutekunst’s gamble proved correct. The Packers had one of the best teams in the NFL, but one thing he could not have predicted was that the team would lose two of its best players to injuries at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Kraft tied with running back Christian Watson for the Packers’ rushing average of 61 yards per game. Parsons led the team with 12.5 sacks. Getting two of the team’s most impactful players back early in the season could greatly help the Packers’ success in 2026.

A week after his NXT debut, the ring name former NJPW star EVIL will use in WWE has been revealed. According to Fightful Select, he is expected to move to NXT under the name Nox Raijin. WWE filed a trademark for the name on April 28, the same day he debuted on the brand.

The “Raijin” part of the name holds a specific meaning, referring to the Japanese god of thunder and lightning. It appears that WWE is creating a character based on both his Japanese origins and the heel persona he developed during his NJPW run. EVIL is currently listed internally under his real name, Takaaki Watanabe, while branding is finalized.

His debut on the April 28 episode of NXT saw him take on NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo in a no-name match. Commentator Vic Joseph identified him as the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and deliberately used the phrase “pure evil” during the segment.

His skills continued to fade, and the Vikings prioritized the signing of undrafted rookie punter Brett Thorson after he won the Ray Guy Award in college. Don’t be surprised if Thorson looks to be a better long-term fit, but he’ll have to prove to be an effective holder on field goals and extra points first.
