Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen scored once each, with Robertson continuing his rough start in these playoffs by scoring for the fifth consecutive game. Jake Oettinger made 24 saves in the loss, and Dallas now trails the best-of-7 series 3-2.

Game 6 will be Thursday in St. Paul, Minn.

Stars didn’t do enough to win Game 5

Dallas hosted Game 5 of the first-round playoff series for the fourth consecutive year. They averaged 4.33 goals and 26 shots per game over the past three games, including a 4-0 win over the Wild in 2023.

So Stars fans could be forgiven for liking what they saw from the home team on Tuesday night. Dallas had only 22 shots on goal, and only 12 in the first 48 minutes, before a late-game push in an inexplicably flat performance for a veteran team in a decisive game that was too little, too late.

“Everyone needs to step up,” Stars coach Glenn Gulutzan said. “It’s a team effort to try and get it done. … We just need a little bit more from everybody.”

Oettinger’s playoff struggles again reared their ugly head, most notably on Michael McCarron’s insurance goal at 7:47 of the third period, which ultimately served as the game-winner. Oettinger lost his balance and failed to keep his pads on the ice, and McCarron slipped the puck under him, giving Minnesota a 3–1 lead at 7:47 of the third minute.

The Stars lacked the desperation expected in such an important game. They had no high-danger scoring chances in the first period – Minnesota led 6–0 in such chances over the course of 20 minutes – and dominated expected goal chances in the first period by 1.41–0.44, even though it was 1–1 to one.

Stars need to do more at 5-on-5

Robertson’s third-period goal will go down as an even-strength tally, but even that is misleading because it came on a 5-on-4 with Oettinger pulled for an extra attacker.

The Stars are not able to score strongly in this series also. He hasn’t scored a goal at five-on-five since Robertson scored in the first period of Game 3 – a span of nearly 220 minutes. The Stars’ three goals at five-on-five are the fewest of any team still playing – and are tied with the Ottawa Senators for 15th in the playoffs, ahead of only the Los Angeles Kings’ two.

“We thought we created some opportunities for ourselves,” Gulutzan said. “Now we have to take the next step and adopt some of those.”

Dallas made only 16 shots from five in the game.

The Stars are in the series thanks to their white-hot power play, which led to Heiskanen’s game-tying goal in the first period for the ninth time in the series. But the man-advantage went to 0 of 3 after the first period of Game 5.

The Abu Dhabi closing ceremony alone attracted 1.5 million people. This is up 53% from last year’s closing. Growth was real and accelerating.

Apple then paid $750 million over five years to acquire it exclusively. No cable bundle. No channel flipping. One app, one subscription, $12.99 per month.

The skeptics had a point – taking games to a paywall has historically reduced viewership. Ask NASCAR, which saw a 14% decline in revenue in 2025 when it moved some races to Amazon Prime. But Apple was betting on something different: The F1 fan created by ESPN was a streaming-native, device-forward consumer who would follow the sport anywhere. Apple’s senior vice president of services, Eddie Cue, confirmed after the Australian Grand Prix that viewership had increased year-on-year compared to 2025, exceeding the expectations of both F1 and Apple.

So far the bet is succeeding.

Apple TV’s approach to Formula 1 coverage

The production difference between what ESPN delivered and what Apple launched is not subtle.

ESPN shows Sky Sports’ feed with British commentary and a ticker at the bottom. This was fine for fans who already knew the game. It wasn’t designed to draw in newcomers.

Apple redesigned the entire viewing experience. Each Grand Prix is ​​now streamed in 4K with Dolby Vision and 5.1 surround sound – the first time F1 has been broadcast in that format in the United States. That alone is important. An F1 car at full speed in 4K Dolby Vision is a fundamentally different visual experience than American fans have had before.

Apple Maps features custom circuit guides with 3D grandstand and turn-by-turn navigation for fans attending in person. Apple Music plays a free live audio broadcast during the race. They have also partnered with free streaming service Tubi to offer exclusive live F1 altcasts for several races, available at no cost on every device. Yahoo Sports gets practice and qualifying streams. The Canadian Grand Prix will be simulcast on Netflix.

This is not a broadcast deal. It’s an ecosystem game.

Apple was built for an audience

The United States is now Formula 1’s largest market for YouTube viewers, with 171 million video views in 2025, and social media followers are up 17% year on year. The 18-49 demographic – which every advertiser and platform covets – watched F1 on ESPN last season, averaging 511,000 viewers per race, a jump of 24% from 2024. 1. Kevin McGonigle, 3B, Detroit Tigers

We’re in a flashback of Joey Gallo and Adam Dunn. In his respective peak years, Adam Dunn averaged more than 40 home runs per season, struck out 28 percent of the time and boasted a walk rate of nearly 17 percent. A decade later, Joey Gallo averaged 40 homers per season with a 36 percent strikeout rate and a walk rate around 14 percent (2017–18).

Now let’s compare this to Chicago White Sox slugger Munetaka Murakami in his first major test. He boasts the ninth-highest walk rate (17.5 percent) and leads MLB in home runs (12) through 29 games. Murakami is also hitting in 32.5 percent of his plate appearances. When he’s making contact, it’s amazing to watch. When he’s not there, Murakami swings as if he’s generating wind power.

5. Parker Messick, SP, Cleveland Guardians

St. Louis Cardinals second baseman JJ Weatherholt had a stellar season in his MLB debut, posting a .300 batting average in his first five games. He then suffered an early slump, going 6 for 36 with a .167 batting average in his next 45 plate appearances. However, during that span, he walked (eight) almost as much as he struck out (nine) and his composure at the plate paid off.

From April 14–27, Weatherholt has put up a 1.036 OPS and five of his 12 hits have gone from 15 yards. He has collected 9 RBI in that span, added one stolen base and still has a reasonable 10-5 K-BB line. Oh, we should also mention that Weatherholt ranks in the 98th percentile for shots above average (four) this season. In a down year, he would be a great pick for NL Rookie of the Year.

Following the 2025–26 NHL season, Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman stated that the organization needed better players to make the Stanley Cup playoffs. Now, a prominent NHL insider is throwing more gas on the fire for Detroit.

If the Red Wings don’t make a big trade or move this summer, people will be “surprised,” as Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. This has been one of the most talked about aspects of Detroit’s offseason and all signs point towards a trade or signing for an elite offensive forward.

Who could the Detroit Red Wings trade for during the 2026 offseason?

The Red Wings are expected to make a major trade during the 2026 NHL offseason and top six forwards should be the first priority. Yzerman said there were issues with five-on-five play and goal scoring during the 2025–26 NHL season, so a physical, high-profile offensive player would be the best fit. There are some names which are different from the rest.

If Detroit is looking to land a big move, they should try to acquire Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk or Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews. These may be hypotheticals, but if any of these guys are actually involved in trade rumors this summer, the organization should run. If not, Detroit has other options it can consider in the trade market.

Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson would be a perfect fit. Robertson is an incredible offensive player, currently having 49 goals between the regular season and playoffs. The situation in Dallas is tough and the star forward is due to get a new contract after the season.

The Stars will have Robertson’s rights as a restricted free agent, so it would be wise to extract value if the organization doesn’t have room for him long-term. The Red Wings have the space and assets to do that and Robertson would be a great addition.

If not, there are other players still on the market, like Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson and St. Louis Blues center Robert Thomas. While neither of them are at the same height as Tkachuk, Matthews or Robertson, they would provide a much-needed boost to Detroit’s offense.

The NHL would be surprised if the Red Wings fail to make a blockbuster move, so that should give them a reason to feel that way.

He replied firmly in the negative.

After gutting the roster and cutting millions in salary, the Miami Dolphins got much better during the 2026 NFL Draft. The Dolphins included 13 players in the draft, but that doesn’t mean the team addressed all of their weaknesses and needs.

Come 4pm ET on April 29, teams will be able to sign free agents without impacting their future compensatory selection formula. This could be just what teams like the Vikings have been waiting for, but the real question may center on how much money Jennings is asking for.

Jennings, 28, recorded 643 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He’ll likely play a much bigger role in the Dolphins’ offense than the Vikings, where he’ll be behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Nevertheless, the Dolphins are expected to struggle in a rebuilding season, while the Vikings are expected to compete for a playoff spot again. This could be just what Jennings is looking for.

Undrafted free agent quarterback Diego Pavia has a new home in the NFL. Pavia has signed a three-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens after the 2026 NFL Draft, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The 24-year-old quarterback was the runner-up for the 2025 Heisman Trophy behind Fernando Mendoza.

Pavia, who became the first Heisman Trophy runner-up to go undrafted since Brad Banks in 2003, joins a stacked quarterback room with Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley. Earlier on Tuesday, the Ravens also signed undrafted quarterback Joe Fagnano to a three-year contract.

Pavia went undrafted due to concerns about his size and playing style transitioning to the NFL level. Despite throwing for 3,539 yards, 29 touchdowns and eight interceptions, the 24-year-old quarterback did not receive much interest in the draft. Pavia also did not receive an immediate contract as an undrafted free agent.

This gives Pavia a chance to secure a spot on Baltimore’s 53-man roster for the 2026–27 NFL season. This also means the former Vanderbilt Commodore quarterback will likely battle Fagnano for the QB3 role behind Jackson and Huntley during the summer.

Although this contract does not guarantee Pavia a spot on the 53-man roster, it is a great result after going undrafted. The Ravens were initially going to bring Pavia to their rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis, but the team already signed him.

If Pavia does not find a role behind Jackson and Huntley, he could join the practice squad to begin the 2026–27 NFL season. Either way, Pavia is likely to get a significant amount of reps with Fagnano during the 2026 NFL preseason.

Pavia has a home in the NFL, but what happens next in Baltimore depends on his performance this summer.

The New York Jets landed the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Most years, that’s good enough to hone in on a potential franchise quarterback. But not this year, when most analysts projected to draft only one quarterback in the first round.

Thus, the Jets made other plans, such as trading a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for Geno Smith long before he was drafted. With two-time Pro Bowl QB Smith, it appears the Jets have their starting QB for 2026. However, they also traded up to select Clemson’s Cade Klubnik in the fourth round.

Still, the Jets’ QB room, which currently consists of Smith, Klubnik, Brady Cook and Bailey Zappé, can’t be set.

According to ESPN’s Jets insider Rich Cimini, the team recently hosted 10-time Pro Bowl QB Russell Wilson for a free agency visit. Still, Cimini reports that “nothing is imminent” as the Jets are going through “their process” in looking for an experienced backup QB. Interestingly, Smith’s relationship with Wilson during his time in Seattle may have helped the former Super Bowl-winning Seahawks QB work out with the Giants.

Wilson doesn’t have any starting opportunities left unless he’s willing to join a rebuild like Arizona or go back to Pittsburgh (which still seems to be tied to Aaron Rodgers), or wait out a potential injury to another starter. Thus, a return to New York, this time with the Jets instead of the Giants, could make sense for the 37-year-old QB.

Stephanie Wacker is dealing with a real injury after Monday’s WWE Raw.

Brian Alvarez confirmed that Wecker’s shoulder problem during the backstage attack is legitimate, possibly consistent with the second-degree AC sprain that Michael Cole referenced on commentary after Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez attacked him.

Pérez rammed a tool box into Wecker’s shoulder during the segment, with Cole saying on air that Wecker would be “out for a while” as a result. It is unclear when and how the injury first occurred prior to angle airing. The attack was planned as a storyline development on Raw, but the real-world consequences of a legitimate second-degree AC sprain added a layer of uncertainty to WWE’s plans for Walker in the coming weeks.

Second degree AC sprains involve a partial tear of the acromioclavicular ligaments and recovery timelines are usually measured in weeks rather than days. This means that Wacker’s absence from ring competition could be extended in the near future, depending on how his body responds to treatment.

Wacker most recently competed at WrestleMania 42, where she lost the Women’s World Championship to Liv Morgan, a top match on the card. Prior to that loss, Wacker was one of WWE’s top female stars, holding the title and regularly appearing in top-of-the-card storylines.

Her post-WrestleMania plans were expected to put her in that position throughout the spring and summer schedule through a feud with Morgan for the top women’s title on Raw, making the injury’s timing difficult from a creative standpoint.

The segment that resulted in the injury involved Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Pérez targeting Wecker in a backstage attack, with Pérez using a tool box as a weapon to cause damage to the shoulder. Aside from Cole’s on-air comment that she would be out for some time, neither the full scope of the injury nor a specific timeline for her return has been publicly confirmed.

The New York Giants surprised the world when they made Ohio State linebacker Arvel Reese the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. While Reese is a linebacker first, many projected him to become primarily a pass-rusher at the next level. Thus, many assumed that the Giants would try to trade the team’s third pass-rusher, Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Still, this may not happen. However, that doesn’t mean Giants general manager Joe Schoen didn’t try during draft weekend.

Perhaps the Giants will revisit trade talks before the 2026 season trade deadline passes, but for now, they prefer the possibility of receiving a compensatory pick if Thibodaux departs as a free agent.

Jennings recorded a career-high 77 receptions for 965 yards with six touchdowns in 2024. Hoping to build on those strong numbers, the 28-year-old receiver’s numbers took off in 2025, where he recorded 55 receptions for 643 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns.

However, when he reached free agency, Jennings did not find the market he would have liked. Perhaps his asking price was a bit high.

Now that teams have addressed their most pressing needs through free agency and the draft, Jennings’ options have dried up, and they will certainly have to lower his asking price.

The 6-foot-3, 212-pound receiver should have an easy transition learning Kevin O’Connell’s offense, as he has just spent five seasons mastering Kyle Shanahan’s system. He will also add a unique element to the team’s receiver room, adding even more size to the table.

If he signs, Jennings will immediately become the team’s new No. 3 receiver, falling behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, and he will give Kyler Murray another reliable pass-catcher to target in the red zone.

ESPN’s latest NBA mock draft opens the door for the New York Knicks to select a potential OG Anunoby replacement with their top pick at the June event.

Since arriving in a trade ahead of the 2023-24 trade deadline, Anunoby has been a valuable part of the Knicks roster. He’s a reliable three-point threat, an underrated scorer, a talented athlete, but more than anything, he’s a tenacious defender who can guard both forward spots.

However, if the Knicks disappoint in this year’s playoffs and fail to reach the Finals, the 28-year-old could be used in a blockbuster trade. Furthermore, he still has three years and $135 million left on his massive contract. This is a huge number for a player who has never earned All-Star honors in the NBA.

Maybe that’s why Jeremy Wu’s new ESPN NBA mock draft predicts the team will use their first-round pick in June on Arizona big man Koa Peat.

Can Koa Pete replace OG Anunoby?

“Pete chose to declare for the draft and has the opportunity to solidify his role on the board with a strong predraft process,” Wu wrote. “Some teams see him as an excellent candidate to return to school and improve his stock, an option that is available to him.

Cody Rhodes is recovering from an eye injury suffered during his match against Randy Orton at WWE WrestleMania 42 and had a creative idea to deal with it on television that was immediately vetoed by Triple H.

During an interview on ESPN’s SportsCenter, Rhodes opened up about the injury and the backstage conversation, and the conversation also discussed the possibility that his reaction to the decision was taken for WWE: Unreal Series.

“We tried to do a little eye makeup, but I think we decided there was no way to hide it,” Rhodes said. “I’ll tell you something funny – I thought I’d go on TV, go to Monday Night Raw, go to Friday Night SmackDown, and do the blindfold thing. I thought it would be cool.

Still, while the chance to go far in the postseason is back, the front office needs to keep an eye on the impending offseason.

In a few months, the team will have to find out if LeBron James, Austin Reaves, or Deandre Ayton are in their plans after this season. It seems like they want James back – at the right price – and will certainly give Reeves a huge raise in free agency. It seems Ayton is a strange man. Although he has been solid for them in 2025-26, he hasn’t made a case that he will be difficult to replace.
