One thing that is crystal clear when analyzing the Canadiens is that they have the potential to be a world-class team.

The Sabers decided to restart Dobbs, and like the referees in most of these playoff games, the referees failed to do their job.

This was truly a terrible job done by experienced officers who should know better.

And this is clearly a recurring issue that has been plaguing the league.

The final 10 minutes of the third period will go a long way in determining whether the Canadiens can truly rise to the occasion, as they have done so many times in the regular season, or whether they will showcase their lack of experience by blowing another lead in an elimination game.

The Habs played timidly for most of the second and third periods, which led to a lot of time in the defensive zone.

You could argue that he had no trace of murderous tendencies.

The good news is that they had a chance to win the game with just one more shot, as the teams were tied 2-2 in overtime.

After nine days of wondering who their next opponent would be, the Carolina Hurricanes finally have their opponent for the Eastern Conference Finals following the Montreal Canadiens’ overtime win in Game 7 against the Buffalo Sabres.

Between their sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers in round two of the ECF and Game 1, the Hurricanes would have 11 days of rest, setting a modern NHL record. Ironically, only 1919 Canadians had more than 12.

Game 7 between the Canadiens and Sabers was certainly interesting. The Canadiens took an early lead by scoring two goals in the first frame, before the Sabers evened it out in the next two frames. However, the Sabers found the back of the net for the third time after the puck bounced off the legs of Jacob Dobbs, while the remaining puck was pushed across the line by Beck Malensteen. But unfortunately for the Sabres, as Dobbs tried to cover the puck, the referee blew the whistle – despite having no control over it, and the goal was ultimately waved off.

With 8:38 left in the extra frame, Alex Newhook got the game-winning goal.

A Brief History of the Hurricanes vs. the Habs

Throughout the regular season, the Canadiens won all three games against the Hurricanes. However, in the only two instances when the two teams have faced each other in the postseason (2002, 2006), the Hurricanes have defeated them in six games or less. Ironically, the Hurricanes also appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals in both postseasons, and won the championship in 2006.

The Montreal Canadiens advance to the Eastern Conference Finals after defeating the Buffalo Sabers 4–3 in their second-round series.

The Sabers won Game 1 and Game 4, but the Canadiens were the better team, as shown by their dominant performances in Game 2 and Game 3. That being said, Buffalo deserves credit for its impressive comeback in Game 6.

All things considered, advancing to the Conference Finals is quite an accomplishment for the league’s youngest team, but the hard work is far from over.

Next playoff opponent

The Canadiens will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Finals, a powerhouse team that has yet to taste anything but success in the 2026 NHL Playoffs.

The Hurricanes easily defeated the Ottawa Senators 4–0 in the first round series, outscoring them 11–5 in the process. They continued their momentum into the second round, where they once again had a dominant performance, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers in four consecutive games and defeating them 13–5.

Simply put, they have been the best team in the playoffs, and by a wide margin.

They are sure to be very well rested compared to the Canadians, although that may not be an advantage given the situation. While the Habs have lacked rest, they have maintained their lead by playing every two days and facing equally competitive opponents.

While the Hurricanes have not played a game since May 9, meaning they will be facing a very cold winter ahead of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Given that Game 1 of the series is scheduled for May 21, the Hurricanes will not have played an NHL game in a dozen days, leaving a significant amount of rust for these highly-tuned athletes.

Of course, his lack of game-time action in recent days will be mitigated by the fact that the Hurricanes are one of the most talented teams in the league.

It’s only fitting that the series requires all seven games, as the Habs and Sabers are evenly matched when we look at some statistics.

The Sabers have the advantage in shots and expected goals at 51.5% and 51.9%, however, the Canadiens have outshot them 14-11 at 5v5 and 10-6 on high-danger scoring opportunities.

This is the epitome of an exciting series, and it all comes down to the final game.

Milwaukee wants a solution on Antetokounmpo by the 2026 NBA Draft, which begins in just a month. Antetokounmpo will be the biggest fish on the trade market during the 2026 NBA offseason, and multiple organizations are expected to be in the mix.

This seems like a real possibility, so what will it really take for Antetokounmpo to get to New York? This is what needs to happen for the New York Knicks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo should request a trade with New York as a destination

It all starts with Antetokounmpo. If the Knicks want to pull off one of their biggest trades in franchise history, the 31-year-old forward will have to request a trade from Milwaukee. Again, Antetokounmpo would have to include New York as one of his favorite destinations.

Luckily for the Knicks, this shouldn’t be a problem. Antetokounmpo has his sights set on New York and would love to play in the Big Apple. Therefore, if Antetokounmpo requests a trade, the Knicks will inevitably be in contention. It just depends on what Antetokounmpo wants to do moving forward.

Does Antetokounmpo want to stay in Milwaukee and build his legacy with one team? If the Bucks are committed to building a great team around Antetokounmpo, this could take his mind off a trade. Still, the damage from the 2025-26 NBA season may be too much to overcome.

In that case, the Knicks would be one of the top landing spots for Antetokounmpo in a potential trade. However, does New York need a reason to trade for Antetokounmpo this summer?

The New York Knicks need a reason to pursue Antetokounmpo this summer

The Knicks are scheduled to play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals. New York has made it to the conference finals for the second consecutive NBA season, as Jalen Brunson continues to take the organization to new levels. However, the trade may become more difficult for Antetokounmpo in the coming weeks.

Will a second consecutive conference finals appearance derail the Antetokounmpo deal? How about an appearance in the NBA Finals? If the Knicks defeat the Cavaliers and make the 2026 NBA Finals, it could lead the team away from a drastic move for the 31-year-old star.

To stay under the second apron, the Knicks will likely have to trade a combination of OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart. Since New York doesn’t have many first-round picks to offer Milwaukee, it will almost certainly have to trade half of its starting lineup. This may not be attractive for a team that is so close to the championship.

After all, Antetokounmpo has dealt with injuries the last few seasons, and an unfortunate health issue could derail the Knicks. In order for New York to trade for Antetokounmpo, it needs a reason to pursue him this summer. More likely, it would require the Knicks to be eliminated by the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Antetokounmpo is interested in joining the Knicks, but the organization may not be in the right position to swing a trade this offseason.

The Cleveland Browns have one of the most intriguing quarterback rooms in the NFL at the moment, making for an interesting position battle that will last all summer. While NFL training camp is still a few months away, it appears the Browns have an early leader in the quarterback competition.

Although he did not play well in his rookie season, posting an 18.9 ESPN QBR with a 7-10 TD-INT line, there was optimism he would improve with a revamped supporting cast in Cleveland.

However, Fowler’s reporting supports what Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot has said in recent weeks. In late April, she wrote for Cleveland.com that Watson had the “inside track” to winning the contest.

The Los Angeles Rams were a popular choice to select a wide receiver or tight end in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Puka Nacua and Davante Adams are both in the final year of their contracts, making it worthwhile for the Rams to consider the future of the position.

While Nacua is a franchise cornerstone and certainly a part of the Rams’ future plans after the 2026 season ends, Adams will turn 34 next season. Five receivers were selected among the 32 picks of the first round, but the Rams did not contribute to those numbers, instead making the surprise selection of quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th pick.

In fact, the Rams didn’t address the receiver room until the sixth round of the draft. Given that this is a team that is ready to win now, it’s a little surprising they didn’t bring in someone who had more potential to make an immediate impact.

However, everyone recognizes the Rams as a potential Super Bowl contender, which makes them an attractive landing spot for the best receivers still available in free agency.

Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen named the Rams as the “best team fit” for four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs.

Diggs’ last Pro Bowl season came in 2023, but the Rams aren’t asking him to come in and be a superhero next to Nacua and Adams. Reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford just needs a reliable third weapon that can win his 1-on-1 battles, and even at age 32, Diggs has shown he can get the job done.

Last season, Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while serving as the No. 1 target for Drake Mays during the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl run. He won’t get as many opportunities in Los Angeles, but signing with the Rams and accepting a reduced role could give Diggs his best chance yet to win a Super Bowl.

Who will win the Eastern Conference? The Cleveland Cavaliers punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals on Sunday night, taking on the comfortable New York Knicks. This will be a fascinating series, especially with all its focus being primarily on the West.

Let’s take a look at our game-by-game Eastern Conference Finals predictions.

Game 1: New York Knicks 121, Cleveland Cavaliers 113

It’s fitting that the Eastern Conference Finals features a matchup between the Cavaliers vs. the Knicks, as they faced each other to open the season on October 22nd. New York won two of the three head-to-head clashes during the regular season and we suspect the rest will play out in the team’s favor in Game 1. We think All-Star guard Jalen Brunson opened the ECF with a bang, scoring over 30 points with five three-pointers and combining with. Karl-Anthony Towns for 50. The Knicks won Game 1 in a two-man show.

Game 2: New York Knicks 115, Cleveland Cavaliers 108

New York knows at this point that Mikal Bridges is not going to provide much offensively. That’s fine in the Eastern Conference Finals; He just needs to be a blocker. Bridges did an excellent job of stopping Tyrese Maxey in the second period, and he will be tasked with another big defensive task here. We’re guessing the clamps will come out in Game 2, with both James Harden and Donovan Mitchell struggling when they are forced to match up with Bridges. Cleveland’s pair of All-Star guards battled the team’s issues on the glass, giving New York a 2-0 series lead with a clean record at home.

Game 3: Cleveland Cavaliers 118, New York Knicks 110

The Knicks being well-rested certainly gives them an edge in the Eastern Conference Finals, but Cleveland has been battle-tested. Cleveland went 0–2 in the second round after losing on the road at Detroit and responded with three consecutive wins. We believe experience matters to win Game 3. It’s going to be a remarkable night for James Harden, who brings in over 30 points with 9 assists. The former NBA MVP responded with another vintage playoff performance in the series, which explains why the Cavaliers acquired him early this season.

Game 4: New York Knicks 121, Cleveland Cavaliers 117

With OG Anunoby injured, the Knicks have needed guard Miles McBride to step up more recently. He had a great performance in Game 4 vs. Philadelphia by making seven treys with 25 points and we think his perimeter shooting will shine once again in the Eastern Conference Finals. With Anunoby limited, McBride exploded with a game-high in three-pointers (five) made as part of the Knicks’ bench that made the difference in a Game 4 win on the road. This sent New York back to Madison Square Garden with a 3–1 series lead.

Game 5: New York Knicks 118, Cleveland Cavaliers 107

During the Eastern Conference Finals, we’re expecting Karl-Anthony Towns to be the biggest reason New York gets to the NBA Finals. Back home at Madison Square Garden, KAT would record his fourth double-double of the series and reach over 20 points for the second time since he has scored over 15 points in each contest. KAT and Brunson combined for over 40 points in a Game 5 loss to the Knicks’ rotation depth and team defense that gave the Knicks their first Eastern Conference title since 1999.

The Swiss New Jersey Devils faced off against Germany in Zurich on Monday.

Nico Hischier and Timo Meier combined for four points as Switzerland defeated Germany 6-1 on Monday night at the 2026 IIHF World Championships in Zurich. The Devils captain had a goal and an assist, while Meyer added two assists. Switzerland—like Lenny Haminaho and Finland—improved to 3-0 in Group A play.

Hischier helped get the hosts on the board in the first period, providing the primary assist on the opening goal by Dennis Malgin.

Roman Josi picked up a secondary assist in the game. Switzerland kept that momentum going and outshot Germany 10-7 in the opening 20 minutes.

The second round was of Swiss power play. Meyer doubled the Swiss lead to 2–0 with a goal from Sven Andrighetto. Switzerland kept up the pressure, limiting Germany to just 4 shots in the middle frame, while Leonardo Zanoni deflected everything in front of him.

In the final minutes of the second period, Meyer drove the puck toward Germany’s goal line and fed Hischier streaking into the slot for a one-time chance, giving the Swiss a 4–0 lead on the power play.

After Hischier, Josi and Andrighetto scored two more goals in a 6–1 victory over Germany.

Hischier’s two-point game (1g, 1a) brings his point total to three (1g, 2a) through three games in the preliminary round.

Meier’s point total increases to four points (1G, 3A) through three games in the tournament. Meyer’s four points so far puts him in a six-way tie for fifth-most points in the tournament, highlighted by fellow NHLers Ryan O’Reilly and Lucas Raymond.

The Swiss team will next face Austria on Wednesday, May 20.

Switzerland is 3-0-0 so far in the preliminary round with wins over Germany, Latvia and Team USA.

Since ancient times, undue importance has been given to low-sized prospects. Look no further than Cole Caufield, the 5-foot-7 Montreal Canadiens 50-goal scorer who fell to 15th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Despite scoring 72 goals during the season, the previous US development team record (Auston Matthews, 55) was demolished.

The New Jersey Devils could take advantage of that bias towards smaller players by selecting Viggo Bjork if he is still available with their 12th overall pick in the first round on June 26.

Björk Caulfield is not small either. He stands at 5-foot-10, 172 pounds, and watching his style of play in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) or the recent IIHF World Championship should put most size concerns to rest. He has drawn comparisons to Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point.

However, we have seen it time and again. Many scouts are stubborn and stale in their analysis of less skilled players, even if those players continue to prove them wrong.

The Athletic draft expert Corey Pronman has Bjork headed to the Devils at #12 in his mock draft. Trading the pick might be in the Devils’ best interest. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned about general manager Sunny Mehta, it’s that he’s not afraid to do what he feels is right, even if it’s unpopular.

Thus, if nothing comes of the Devils’ time, using the pick on Bjork could still be an incredible option. Based on skill and talent alone, he is in the top five.

Playing against NHL talent at the World Championship, he didn’t look out of place in any way. Take it from the great Sidney Crosby himself:

“It’s not easy [being that young at Worlds] … You know, he’s very balanced and you can tell he’s competitive. He’s not the biggest guy but he sees the ice well, makes good shots, does everything well. The way he competed, he was really tenacious with the puck.”

There is no guarantee that Björk will still be on the board at pick No. 12. But if he is, which wouldn’t be a surprise given his drafting history, the Devils shouldn’t think too much about it.

History with Mehta says he probably won’t think too much about it; They had Jesper Bratt, who was drafted #172 in 2016, ranked as the third best player in the entire draft via their draft model.

Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway marks the midpoint of the NASCAR Cup Series regular season. With 12 points worth of NASCAR stats to analyze, now is the perfect time to give out some awards at this stage of the season.

Let’s take a look at our midseason NASCAR awards ahead of the Coca-Cola 600.

Best Driver: Tyler Reddick

Who else will receive this honor besides Tyler Reddick? Has the No. 45 team had any luck this season? Definitely. What can’t be denied is the results and how Redick consistently finds a way to finish at the front of the field. He starts (6.6 average starting position, first in the Cup Series) as strong as he finishes (5.7 average finishing position), and he has finished in the top five in 66.7 percent of his races with a top 10 finish in 75 percent of his races. With a 129-point lead at the end of May, Reddick seemed destined to win the regular season title.

Best Team: Joe Gibbs Racing

23XI Racing needs a little consideration here, but Joe Gibbs Racing has clearly been the best team in NASCAR so far. Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs have both won this season, and JGR is the only team with two drivers in the top six points leaders. Additionally, Hamlin (624) and teammate Christopher Bell (325) are first and third in laps, with Tye in 11th (78). While it’s been a relatively quiet season for Chase Briscoe in his first year with JGR, the driver of the No. 19 car ranks eighth in average finishing position (13.0) over the last six races with three top-10 finishes.

Biggest Surprise: Ty Gibbs

Ty Gibbs remains one of the least popular drivers in NASCAR, and during the year a lot of questions were asked about whether he would prove if he was really meant to drive the No. 54 car. Let us tell you that the results of this season speak volumes about the improvements made by the 23-year-old player. In 2025, Gibbs had five top-fives, 10 top-10s and recorded an average finishing position of 17.86. Through 12 races this season, he already has six top-five finishes and is on pace to break his career high (eight) in the Cup Series. Similarly, he has finished in the top-10 eight times and will look to surpass his previous season’s best points tally (12 in 2024). Additionally, Gibbs recorded his first Cup Series win, capping a seven-week stretch of top-10 finishes, which has dramatically improved his average finishing position in the Cup to the sixth-best mark (13.8).

Biggest Disappointment: Joey Logano

A year ago we would have put Kyle Busch on this list, but he avoids it this season because of how low the expectation level has now reached for Richard Childress Racing and the No. 8 team. So, Joey Logano is left as the biggest disappointment in the NASCAR Cup Series this season. Logano has had the same number of top-10 DNFs this season (three) with an average finishing position (22.417), which ranks 26th in the Cup Series, behind AJ Allmendinger (19.5), Zane Smith (19.9) and Erik Jones (20.0). Since Darlington, Logano’s average finishing position is 26.5, and he is third at Martinsville and seventh at Bristol. Logano has no chance to challenge for the championship this year, and the best-case scenario might be him finishing outside the top-10 in The Chase.

Best Pit Crew: No. 20 Team

A lot has gone wrong for Christopher Bell this season, some of which is out of his control. JGR and Bell are feeling pretty good right now about how amazing the No. 20 pit crew is. NASCAR.com rated them as the No. 1 pit crew entering the All-Star Race, and the numbers support it. Bell’s pit crew has the second-fastest average pit stop of the season (10.52 seconds), with the fastest average pit stop of the season (8.92 seconds). Additionally, according to PitCrewRank.com, only nine of 47 pit stops have taken 11.6 seconds or longer, tying the No. 20 crew for first in PCR (1,072).

Worst Pit Crew: No. 8 Team

Kyle Busch’s winning streak in the Cup Series has reached triple digits. The future Hall of Famer deserves much of the blame for what happened, with his struggle to adjust to the Next Gen car and his anger playing a role in the conflicts that led him to perform better. What can’t be ignored is how poorly the No. 8 pit crew has performed this season. Busch’s pit crew ranked 35th in PCR with a 12.22 average pit time. While Bell only required pit stops of 11.6-plus seconds 19.2 percent of the time, the No. 8 team required 12-plus seconds in 17 of 49 qualifying pit stops, or 34.7 percent of the time. We wouldn’t predict Busch winning a Cup race in the near future.

Most Improved Driver: Carson Hocevar

Carson Hocevar is the next superstar NASCAR has been waiting for. The 23-year-old’s first career Cup Series win at Talladega and the celebration that followed was perhaps the best moment of the Cup Series this season. What’s really different with the driver of the No. 77 car is how he’s channeling his aggression and racing smarter, which results in more consistency in the end. Hocevar (14.6) currently leads William Byron (16.0), Kyle Larson (17.3), Chase Briscoe (17.5) and Christopher Bell (17.8) in average finishing position. He’s already set career highs for top-fives (three), and he’ll break personal bests for top-10s (nine) and laps led (131) in just a few weeks. Keep in mind, Hocevar is having all this success while overcoming bottom 10 pit crews.

The Green Bay Packers were relatively quiet in NFL free agency this offseason, with general manager Brian Gutekunst looking to preserve compensatory selections in the 2027 NFL Draft. Now that that is no longer a factor, the team is being linked to a potential role player who is still available.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen reports the Packers are the best fit for free-agent edge rusher AJ Epenesa.

“The Packers lost rotational edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare to the Jets in free agency, so the team could add his replacement in Epenesa. He’s a long, powerful mover who can break the edge with his 6-foot-6, 260-pound frame. He can also make disruptive plays under new coordinator Jonathan Gannon, as he recorded 24.5 sacks and four interceptions in six seasons with the Bills. Are.”

6-foot-6 edge rusher Epenesa has been a rotational player for most of his career. Last season, he played 438 snaps for the Buffalo Bills, and he played less than 50 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in five of his six seasons in the NFL.

In 2025, Epenesa recorded 12 pressures, 9 quarterback hits and 17 solo tackles with 4 pass deflections, 2.5 sacks and 2 interceptions in 16 games. Epenesa, who turns 28 in September, earned a 48.6 PFF run-blocking grade along with a 63.5 pass-rushing grade in 2025.

With All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons likely to miss the first four games of the season recovering from ACL surgery, pass-rushing depth is essential. Signing Epenesa would allow Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to rotate him with Carl Brooks, Lucas Van Ness, Brenton Cox Jr. and Barry Sorrell.

Realistically, any veteran Green Bay signs in NFL free agency at this point will be landing a one-year contract. Beyond Epenesa, there are also options like Derek Barnett, Dante Fowler Jr., Brandon Graham, and Haason Redick.

The writing is on the wall for Alvin Kamara with the New Orleans Saints. This has been going on since March, when the team signed 27-year-old running back Travis Etienne to a four-year, $48 million contract. Kamara, who turns 31 in July, played in just 11 games last season, marking the first time he recorded fewer than 1,000 all-purpose yards in his seven-year career.

If the Saints decide to remove Kamara from the roster they could save a little over $13.9M (but incur a $24.3M dead cap charge). If they wait until after June 1, the Saints save a little more than $300,000, but they only have to face a $10 million dead cap fee. There’s always the possibility that a team is willing to trade for the remainder of Kamara’s contract, which has a cap hit of $10.4 million, a rate that could potentially be a bit high for a team already paying Etienne that much.

On Monday, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis acknowledged that the team is still “trying to see how Kamara fits into our roster.” This is a strong message to opposing teams, showing that the five-time Pro Bowl running back, who is quite adept at catching passes out of the backfield, is available via trade. Let’s take a look at which teams could make sense for Kamara.

Strange as it may be, Kamara is essentially heading to Jacksonville to replace the man who replaced him in New Orleans. Still, it may also be a perfect fit. The Jaguars’ presumptive starter, running back Bhayashul Tuten, caught only 10 passes last season. There’s no guarantee he’s ready for a full workload, but having a nine-year veteran like Kamara in the backfield could do wonders for Liam Coen’s side.

Josh Jacobs is Green Bay’s biggest player, but the Packers also often relied on Emmanuel Wilson for a career-high 140 points last season. But Wilson is gone now, and if there’s one area in which Jacobs can improve, it’s as a pass-catcher, which is an area in which Kamara excels. He could be the perfect spellback for Matt LaFleur’s system.

Baltimore Ravens

Derrick Henry is one of the best running backs in the NFL. He is a devastating ball forward who always looks to drop forward, and is an excellent option near the goal line. But when it comes to speed and agility, or even moving the chains as a pass-catcher, there’s room for another playmaker in Baltimore’s backfield. This is an area where Kamara can fit perfectly.

Always pursuing big-name playmakers, the Cowboys could be an ideal fit for Kamara as a backup to Javonte Williams. Additionally, there is a possibility that Kamara is coming into the 2026 season with a huge challenge on his shoulders after a poor season last year. If so, the Cowboys could be getting an inspired star, just like they benefited from George Pickens last season.

Even though they are still searching for their full-time general manager, the Minnesota Vikings believe they have a strong foundation and support system. Head coach Kevin O’Connell and defensive coordinator Brian Flores are some of the best offensive and defensive minds in the NFL today. Together, the Vikings have become a place where many young prospects feel they can get the proper development they need to reach their full potential.

Look at former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray as an example. He never lived up to his draft slot in seven seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. Once he became a free agent, he chose O’Connell’s Vikings, although the presence of Justin Jefferson probably didn’t hurt.

Murray was only signed to a one-year contract. He could become the Vikings’ franchise quarterback, stealing that opportunity from 2024 first-round pick JJ McCarthy. If so, it means McCarthy’s days are numbered. Thus, the Vikings may soon be looking for another developmental QB to learn behind the 29-year-old Murray.

Right now, the sports community is monitoring the case of Texas Tech and former Indiana QB Brandon Sorsby, who is under NCAA investigation for sports gambling, yet is currently fighting for the opportunity to play in 2026.

However, there is also a possibility that Soursby declares for the NFL supplemental draft, which has not had a player selected since 2019. Another complication, Sorsby must submit his intent to enter the supplemental draft by June 30.

Still, Soursby’s potential availability to NFL teams later this summer presents an interesting curveball, where teams would part with a 2027 draft pick for the right to add him to their team immediately. Viewed as someone who had a Day 2 grade but could rise to a first-round prospect, Soursby has a strong arm and above-average mobility.

recently, athleticJeff Howe takes a look at which teams might be willing to part with a 2027 draft pick for Soursby. In doing so, Howe looked to the Vikings, who have an extra third-round pick in 2027 from Philadelphia after the Jonathan Greenard trade, as Soursby’s destination.

At first glance, the Vikings’ connection to Sorsby would seem strange. Still, with Murray only playing on a one-year contract and McCarthy undrafted, it’s likely the Vikings will enter next season still The search for answers to the future at the most important position in football.

Plus, there’s always the possibility that if/when Murray wins the Vikings’ starting QB competition, McCarthy, a former 10th overall pick, will request a trade. The Vikings can push firmly on that concept right now, knowing that Murray is only signed for the remainder of the season.

Still, as the Vikings get deeper into their competition, it may soon become clear that Murray is the best candidate on the field. This could lead to an early decision on McCarthy’s future in Minnesota, potentially making the Vikings more interested in finding another developmental QB over 2025 undrafted signee Max Broesmer.

This is where Sorsby can be seen as the perfect solution. A QB who has less pressure on his shoulders to perform immediately is given more time to develop than a ball of clay who is just 22 years old.

Lenny Haminaho showed the New Jersey Devils some moxie amid their comeback in the 2025-26 season, and he’s taking that momentum to the IIHF World Championship for Finland.

Haminaho put in a strong performance for Finland in their 6-2 win over the United States on Monday in Zurich.

The 21-year-old Devils forward finished with two goals and an assist as Finland went 3-0 unbeaten in Group A.

Haminaho opened the scoring at 6:06 of the first period. He stripped the puck from Ryan Leonard in the neutral zone, took it into the American zone on the left wing, and wristed it high to the glove side of Josef Woll, setting the stage for a dominant finish performance.

It was the same type of responsibility that Haminaho has displayed outside the offensive zone for the Devils this season that translated into offense for Finland.

Patrick Puistola made the score 2–1 in the first game by taking a short pass from Haminaho and beating Vol High. Aatu Raati scored a shorthanded goal before the period ended, giving Finland a 3–1 lead on just eight shots. Matt Coronato briefly tied it for the US at 7:44.

In the second period, Haminaho scored again on the power play at 1:26, once again on Finland’s first shot of the frame to make the score 4–1. Saku Manelaanen found the Vols net 31 seconds later. Devin Cooley came as a relief for the Americans.

Ryan Leonard scored for the US on a 5-on-3 power play early in the third to cut the deficit to 5–2. Anton Lundell responded on the man advantage to close out the scoring a few minutes later. Justus Anunen stopped 30 of 32 shots for Finland.

Haminaho, who had two goals and six assists in 33 NHL games with the Devils last season, played on a line with Anton Lundell and Patrick Puistola. Finland outshot the United States despite the Americans having a 32–28 edge in shots.

The win keeps Finland undefeated while the US remains at 1-2.

It was certainly an encouraging game from Haminaho who had a great performance against a USA team loaded with NHLers.

More performances like this from the Devils forward could certainly propel him to training camp over the summer and to help him get off to a big start in 2026-27.

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to trade AJ Brown this summer in an effort to make further changes to the offense. However, if the unit again does not live up to expectations, some believe Jalen Hurts could be the next position.

An AFC executive speaking to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler suggested the Eagles could move on from Hurts after the 2026 NFL season.

“The player is becoming polarized, and as his running ability begins to decline, his value will also decline [Eagles general manager Howie Roseman] Will always be active to find solutions.”

Hurts, a second-team All-Pro in 2022 and Super Bowl LVIII MVP, has faced increasing scrutiny in Philadelphia. Earlier this offseason, Fowler and ESPN’s Tim McManus released an in-depth story detailing the friction in the Eagles’ locker room and the issues and questions surrounding the star quarterback.

Many around the league saw the leak from the Eagles organization as an indirect way of sending a message to Hurts. The coaching staff and front office want to see both improved play and leadership from him in 2026, as well as a willingness to work within the design of the offense.

It looks like Howie Roseman is giving himself a little flexibility at quarterback for a long time. The Eagles used the 178th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on developmental quarterback prospect Cole Payton. The coaching staff also remains high on former 2023 sixth-round pick Tanner McKee.

If the Eagles want to move on from Hearts in 2027, they will have to pay a heavy financial cost. Even the post-June 1 trade designation, which would be used to land the Browns this summer, would leave a dead cap hit of $30.756 million in 2027 and $54.478 million the following year.

However, the organisation’s growing dissatisfaction with Hearts has become more evident within the past year. Although it’s still unlikely that Philadelphia will move on from the Super Bowl-winning quarterback a year from now, it appears that it is an option that is being considered.
