Zilla Fatu has made it clear that if he gets a chance in WWE, he does not wish to go to AEW.

Speaking on the Bootleg Cave podcast, the rising independent wrestler said his heart lies with WWE rather than AEW, citing family loyalty and a personal mission to honor the legacy of his late father, Umaga.

The conversation started with host Kev asking about Fatu’s match against MJF for the AEW World Championship at the House of Glory show in February. Fatu was measured by how he prepared the experience, taking the match like no other while acknowledging MJF’s position in wrestling.

“That’s the beauty of independent companies like House of Glory and Fourth Row, we’re able to do this kind of work 100% of the time,” Fatu said. “I treat it just like every other match, right? Obviously, MJF is a superstar in his own little world, but I treat it just like every other match.” Asked whether the match was prepared in advance, Fatu said that work was done “everything on the fly”.

While many wrestling fans think Will Ospreay is the best wrestler on the planet right now, the AEW Superstar believes he has already peaked inside the ring. And this was years ago.

Before becoming a huge household name in the United States with AEW, on the other side of the world, Ospreay developed a reputation as one of the industry’s finest talents during a memorable run in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Winning many of the promotion’s top titles and taking part in classic matches.

Over the years, this pair’s level of relevance hasn’t been the same, and aside from the downside last year and their 12th title fight, the move makes sense for both sides. Being released leaves them free to do whatever they want outside the company, and letting them walk helps fuel rumors of WWE moving towards a younger roster.

On Friday, 23 veterans and prospects were released from their existing contracts in the latest round of WWE’s annual roster cuts. Some of the most notable names to be released this week were each member of the Wyatt Six, Kairi Sane, and wrestling power couple Aleister Black and Zelina Vega.

But if I had thought there was any serious malice in this, I would have called you and said, ‘Hey, buddy, like, are we OK?’ Because I was very close to your dad, but then I always felt connected to you.

He described that moment as exactly the kind of decisive step an artist sometimes has to take when trying to break out of a rut and establish a new identity.

Triple H said, “Sometimes you have to get out of the rut that you’re in. You just have to break it and go in a different direction. Turn left, right? And it was very difficult, but during that time I remember I thought, OK, let’s get out there. Be bold and make a statement.”

Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022 and has since become the company’s top babyface and world champion. He has headlined the last three WrestleManias and will do so again at WrestleMania 42 on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where he will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton.

Some new details have emerged on why Chris Jericho was rumored to be returning to WWE and why he returned to AEW on Wednesday night.

For months, rumors and reports have been swirling that the wrestling legend’s tenure in AEW was coming to an end, and that he would likely be heading back to the company that made him a household name, WWE. However, this past week, things changed as he remained on AEW’s roster page and filed a trademark for the term “Cornerstone”. A potential moniker that would seem to be a better fit in All Elite Wrestling.

This led to speculation that he would indeed remain at the company he signed with in 2019. The rumors became reality when Jericho made his grand return to AEW Dynamite on Wednesday in the city where he grew up, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

On Thursday morning, fans of both companies got some new information as to why the 55-year-old may have opted to go back to AEW instead of returning to WWE.

Is Chris Jericho still close to retirement?

“I know I was told so [WWE] “They wanted to take him on a retirement tour,” reported Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. “And maybe he didn’t want to, but I don’t know… With AEW, maybe he was going to have more longevity.” There are a lot of benefits for AEW and there is always money.

“AEW is a little riskier in that sense… He’ll probably have more input than he does in WWE about what he’s going to do in AEW, but I think he’ll have a better audience in WWE. Better audience, that’s definitely part of the deal, but money is part of the deal.”

Meltzer said that after recent speculation that Jericho could return at WrestleMania 42, a source informed him that he will be in Winnipeg this week for Dynamite. When he then reached out to a WWE source, he revealed that initially it seemed like he would return, but as of this week, it is no longer in the cards.

If WWE had been firm about doing a retirement tour, possibly for a year, it could have been a deal breaker as he just feels like he’s not ready to hang up his boots yet. And AEW is probably more willing to let him wrestle because he’s close to 60 years old.
