Overhauling the defense has been a central theme this offseason for Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters. Considering that Dan Quinn’s team stumbled to a 5-12 record after winning 12 games a year ago, it’s a good thing Washington is busy making upgrades.

While the Commanders have upgraded every level of defense, this roster still has more room for improvement. There is still one All-Pro defender waiting to be signed in free agency.

Recently, Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport suggested the Commanders should sign cornerback Trevon Diggs. The 27-year-old finished last season with the Packers, but played just one game before being released this offseason.

“At this point in free agency, there are no sure things left, especially at a premium position like cornerback,” Davenport wrote. “But cap space is not an issue in Washington, the team still needs help at corner and there is no player at a higher-caliber position still looking for work than the 27-year-old.”

Now free to join any team of his choice, the one-time All-Pro hasn’t been able to find an immediate fit. Still, surely some teams will take the chance on the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback returning to peak form with a change in landscape.

One reason Diggs is taking his time is to make sure he can be as healthy as possible after battling injuries in Dallas that limited him to just eight games before his release on December 30. After recording an NFL-high 11 interceptions in 2021, Diggs’ career has cooled off considerably, but he still has 64 games of starting experience.

With Washington aiming to return to being a playoff contender in 2026, acquiring someone with star potential like Diggs at a low price is exactly the type of risk the Commanders should take.

It’s no secret that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is one of the most active roster-builders in the NFL. He’s constantly assessing the trade market, trying to build the best version of the Eagles possible.

We’ve already seen rumors of the Eagles shipping out AJ Brown or trading for Vikings pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard. Now, there’s another idea Eagles fans can dream about.

Recently, Bleacher Report’s Mo Moton had an Eagles trade idea that would land three-time second-team All-Pro safety Jesse Bates III in Philadelphia. Of course, there’s no guarantee the Falcons are looking to trade one of their best guards, but he would still be a great option for Philadelphia.

After the Eagles lost Reid Blankenship in free agency and traded Sidney Brown to Atlanta, a strong case can be made for Philadelphia to hit the safety market. Whether Betts is actually available is debatable, but it’s not hard to imagine Atlanta considering trade offers for Betts rather than paying him $24.8 million in 2026.

Following a disappointing season, Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters addressed several areas he has heard criticism for. Some of the team’s biggest weaknesses suddenly had answers.

This was especially true at edge rusher with Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson both aboard. Leo Chenal arrived to provide stability at middle linebacker. Nick Cross and Amick Robertson help shore up the secondary.

ESPN’s John Keim takes it a step further, reporting that the Commanders are “well aware” of Aiyuk’s “desire” to play with his college quarterback Jayden Daniels. But this is not so easy.

“An interesting name could be San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk,” Keim wrote. “Multiple team sources said Washington is well aware of Aiyuk’s desire to play alongside Daniels. But Aiyuk is still under contract and the Commanders would be unlikely to trade for him or sign him to anything other than a one-year prove-it deal when he becomes free.”

The 49ers are essentially playing hardball here, knowing that Aiyuk and Commander will be trying to unify. Still, while we’ve seen teams hesitant to release past stars like Tua Tagovailoa, Kyler Murray, or Tyreek Hill, the 49ers are unwilling to do the same with Aiyuk. As yet.

Meanwhile, the Commanders are apparently unwilling to trade anything of real value for a player who missed the entire 2025 season due to a knee injury. It doesn’t help that Aiyuk still has three seasons left on his four-year, $120 million contract.

Still, the three-time All-Pro has been busy criticizing his former team on social media.

On Monday, Hopkins tweeted the following message:

Hopkins was responding to a tweet that urged the Ravens to bring the 33-year-old wideout back to Baltimore. Still, it doesn’t seem like Hopkins has any strong interest in re-signing in Baltimore after starting only three of his 17 appearances.

In that time, Hopkins has been targeted only 39 times. But he caught 22 of those passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns. However, the five-time Pro Bowler’s numbers have been declining over the past few seasons. In 2024, Hopkins combined for only 610 yards and five touchdowns while splitting time between the Titans and Chiefs.

“He played with Jaden Daniels in college,” Wagner wrote. “They’re very close. I’m sure Jaden Daniels would love to play with Brandon Aiyuk again, but I don’t think the 49ers are in a rush to move on from Brandon Aiyuk, even though we know they will eventually.”

Aiyuk did not play a snap in 2025 while recovering from a torn ACL and MCL suffered in 2024. Still, with the Commander seeing as Deebo Samuel’s contract expires this offseason, there’s no doubt they could use another pass-catcher in DC and if Aiyuk is healthy he could be a good fit.

Even though the Philadelphia Eagles continue to support him, AJ Brown trade rumors won’t go away. Recently, they also included the Los Angeles Rams, who were reportedly interested in acquiring the three-time Pro Bowl receiver.

Several top free agents have already signed new contracts this offseason. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t still other good deals to be found. The Arizona Cardinals may have just found one.

The Cardinals agreed to terms on a one-year, $2.5 million contract with wide receiver/return specialist Devin DuVernay on Sunday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. An All-Pro as a returner, DuVernay has bounced back the past few seasons, but he spent 20–25 with the Bears, where he caught two of his five targets for 26 yards and one down. He was much more impressive as a returner.

DuVernay returned 21 punts for 231 yards. As a kick returner, DuVernay returned 40 opportunities for a new career-high 1,069 yards in 2025. His 26.7 yards per kick return average ranked 11th in the NFL, and he was fifth in kick return yards.

Now 28, the two-time Pro Bowler doesn’t have an All-Pro or Pro Bowl season until 2022. Nevertheless, he is clearly still a big factor in the return game, and he will look to continue that success in Arizona next season.

After being drafted as the 92nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, DuVernay spent the first four seasons of his career with the Ravens. He plays for the Jaguars in 2024, the Bears in 2025, and then the Cardinals.

After first-year head coach Kellen Moore led the Saints to a respectable 6-11 record, now it’s time to upgrade the roster as the team moves on with Tyler Shaw as the franchise quarterback.

Still, sometimes teams are forced to take a step back before they can make progress. Even if it means saying goodbye to a franchise icon.

Recently, future Hall of Fame defensive lineman Cam Jordan addressed his upcoming free agency with TMZ Sports. In doing so, Jordan acknowledged the possibility that he might join a different team for the first time in his 15-year NFL career.

However, even returning to the saints does not close the book. Jordan says New Orleans “could have a bright future” with Shaw as QB. He also says that after a 10.5 sack season, the 36-year-old is not looking for “top dollar.” He just wants to “be important” with his next contract.

“If you get a 10-sack season, if I was a 26-year-old, I’d demand top dollar,” Jordan said. “The things I’ve never asked for are top dollar. All I’ve asked for is to be valuable.”

The question is, will it come to this for a Saints team that may be close, but has not reached the playoffs since 2020?

No team should be happier than the Seattle Seahawks after coming off a stunning win in Super Bowl LX. However, like every other NFL team, there is still work to do before the next season begins.

Part of that process includes filling out the coaching staff after seeing offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak become head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. Now that the Seahawks have hired their replacement playcaller, Brian Fleury, they can focus on the roster.

There will be a number of decisions made on key free agents whose prices are sure to have increased following Seattle’s successful playoff run. Players with expiring contracts include Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker III and All-Pro receiver/returner Rashid Shahid.

However, according to Martyr, he would “love” to sign a contract extension that would keep him in Seattle for years to come. He recently acknowledged this in a conversation with NFL.com’s Judy Battista and NFL Network, saying he would like to “run it back” with his teammates.

“Absolutely, absolutely, yes,” said Shaheed. “The conversation is definitely going to heat up by March. But you know, I’d love to come back. I love the experience here, I love the Pacific Northwest, and obviously, the organization is second to none. I want to get back to running it. We just won the Super Bowl, so, you know, why not?”

The 27-year-old Martyr will certainly draw interest from other teams in free agency as well. So, if the Seahawks are serious about keeping him in town, they may want to negotiate a new deal and see what he’s really worth before allowing him to hit the open market.

There’s a new decision-maker in town, and new Miami Dolphins general manager John-Eric Sullivan has been busy cutting costs this week. They’ve already said goodbye to four players, including a pair of Pro Bowl players in Tyreke Hill and Bradley Chubb.

Now, the Dolphins are preparing to cut bait with another star talent, even if he is a three-time All-Pro. Only, this time, instead of releasing him from the roster, the Dolphins are trying to get some trade compensation in return.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Dolphins are now fielding a trade offer for five-time Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Although Schultz didn’t say it, if the Dolphins don’t get a trade offer to their liking, there’s always a possibility they decide to release Fitzpatrick as well. However, they naturally want to utilize any and all trading opportunities first.

Although the Dolphins will face a $12.9 million dead cap charge if they cut Fitzpatrick before June 1, they are hoping they find a trade partner for the 29-year-old New Jersey native. Releasing him now would only save a maximum of $5.8 million.

Thus, with the Dolphins putting the put-for-sale sign on one of their best defenders now, they have a better chance of getting some value in return than letting him leave for nothing.
