After the Orlando Magic bounced back from a double-overtime loss to the Phoenix Suns with a two-point win (111-109) over the LA Clippers, Anthony Black discussed the keys to his team securing a top-six seed in the Eastern Conference. In a season where the young and up-and-coming Detroit Pistons sit comfortably at the top of the standings, the Black and Magic are looking to build on their appearance in the play-in tournament last season.

The Magic finished with a .500 record (41–41) in 2024–25, seventh-best in the Eastern Conference. Black says the league can expect the Magic to perform best brand of basketball “Amid the final stretch of the regular season,” he said, according to ESPN’s NBA Today.

Anthony Black scored 11 points in the Magic’s win against the Clippers. All five starters reached double figures, including Paolo Banchero (16 points) and Wendell Carter Jr. (15 points), with Desmond Bane scoring 36 points.

After bouncing back with a hard-fought win against the Clippers, the Magic could bring back Jalen Suggs for Tuesday when they take on the Lakers. Magic forward Paolo Banchero highlighted his team’s shortcomings in Sunday’s double overtime loss, which were also evident in Sunday’s win against the Clippers.

Banchero said, “I wasn’t on the ball so my focus was on protecting the inbounder. I didn’t really look too much, just turned my head and the ball was in the air.”

“I don’t mean ideal, but [I] Thought we played hard, I didn’t think we made enough plays down the stretch they did – a little more than we did and yes, definitely a little bit of a loss. Now! [a] Tough game.”

Maxi performed exceptionally well despite the absence of Joel Embiid and a Paul George-less 76ers team, with neither star taking the court.

Edwards scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but Maxey’s game-high 39 points led Philadelphia to a dominant win over Minnesota.

Rudy Gobert sat out due to a one-game suspension, and Nazi Reed missed the game with a shoulder injury, leaving Minnesota shorthanded.

Edwards said at 2:56, “I haven’t got any favorite players among them. I don’t know any players from the Twins or the Wild. I’ll put it to you, I don’t watch baseball or hockey.”

Given his tendency to be outspoken, it’s funny to hear his honesty here, in which he admits he doesn’t watch or care about Minnesota’s other pro teams.

Minnesota has a 35–23 record on the season, tied for sixth in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors, while trailing the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets.

Ant-Man has always kept it real during interviews, and it’s nice to hear him give Maxi props. While Edwards, 24, is known for talking a lot on the floor, he is equally generous with compliments.

He finished with 28 points on 11-of-19 shooting, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. He also had a game-high seven turnovers.

The Timberwolves will face the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday.

When Maxi moved into the lane he clearly had bad intentions.

While the 25-year-old guard is more known for his speed and explosiveness, he can definitely throw it down.

Edwards, who has quite a collection of posters, must appreciate Maxi’s fearless jam.

Maxi had 39 points, three rebounds, eight assists and two steals.

Anthony Edwards led the way for the Timberwolves with 40 points, six rebounds and one assist. He accomplished that statline while shooting 53.3% from the floor and 38.4% from beyond the three-point line. The four-time All-Star looks as good as ever and is ready to lead Minnesota in the final stretch of the regular season.

Playing his first game after the All-Star break, Ant made 16 of 30 shooting (53.3%), hit 5 of 13 from three, and added six rebounds in 38 minutes. Despite being the main focus of the hapless Mavericks defense, Edwards committed only three turnovers on the night.

The Mavericks struggled to keep up throughout and fell behind every time they threatened to take over the game. When Dallas erased a significant deficit and tied the game at 103 with 6:55 remaining, Edwards answered with a step-back three that reestablished Minnesota control.

Edwards scored 14 fourth-quarter points as the Timberwolves finally got comfortable and finished the game ahead by 11 points. The Timberwolves shot 16-of-42 from three (38.1%), leading to a 24-point advantage from beyond the arc.

Rudy Gobert delivered 22 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks, while Naz Reed provided ample support, adding 21 points and four three-pointers. For the Mavericks, Khris Middleton led the way with 18 points and Marvin Bagley produced a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double.

However, in the absence of several stars including Cooper Flagg, Max Christie and Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks struggled with their shooting all night and their team field-goal accuracy was 42.3%. The Timberwolves currently sit in 5th place in the Western Conference with a 35-22 record and will have their sights set on the top spots in the standings. Edwards recorded his eighth 40-point outing of the season and pushed the Mavericks’ losing streak to their worst in three decades.

The Timberwolves started the game 8-for-13 from three-point range, exploded for 40-points in the first quarter, and built a lead that reached 17–18 points before halftime. Edwards led that surge with 20 points in the first half, including 17 points in the second quarter.

The Wolves finished the half with 69 points and 11 made threes and then proceeded to withstand a late surge from the Mavericks. Dallas responded with a 24–8 run that cut the deficit to two midway through the third quarter.

However, the comeback was immediately stopped, even though the Mavs were tied at 103–103 with 6:55 remaining. Dallas is also missing players like Cooper Flagg and Max Christie, along with Kyrie Irving and Derek Lively, who are both out for the season.

Edwards took control of the final minutes and scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to eventually make the margin comfortable. In addition to ANT, Rudy Gobert recorded 22 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks, while Naz Reed added 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four threes.

Ultimately, negotiations failed as Milwaukee chose to keep Antetokounmpo through the remainder of the season and explore his future in the off-season. At the All-Star break, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Edwards fueled trade rumors.

In a video posted by the Timberwolves, the two All-Stars were seen chatting in the tunnel at the Intuit Dome and mentioned how they knew their video together would go viral.

“We’re gonna go viral again, man,” Antetokounmpo said.

Edwards replied, “We’re always going to go viral, you get me and you together. We’re going to go viral.”

These interactions between players in the All-Star Game are always seen as potential precursors to future team-ups. During the 2019 All-Star Game, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant were caught on video talking privately with each other, which many speculated at the time as possibly being the reason they were teaming up to play each other. On Kevin Durant’s Podcast ETC with Kevin Durant In September 2020, Durant indicated that the conversation solidified their intention to play with each other, although he did not know which team he would be joining.

“The All-Star Game video where they caught us in the hallway. That’s when it cemented that we were going somewhere. They didn’t really know where it was, but it was somewhere.”

Durant said the conversation at All-Star Weekend was not the first time they discussed his future.

“Like we’ll have these types of [basketball related] Conversation all day, every day. And it evolved from there. It just grew from there, it was organic, you know what I’m saying? And it wasn’t something you could point to and say, this was the moment. That’s it, that’s it.”

It’s unknown whether Edwards and Antetokounmpo were having the same conversation, and they certainly weren’t doing so in that video. But, there is a possibility that we may see two All-Stars team up together in the future.

Both the Bucks and Timberwolves are back in action on Friday night. Minnesota will host Dallas at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on ESPN. Meanwhile, the Bucks will travel to New Orleans for tip-off at 8 p.m.

Anthony Edwards has exceeded all expectations placed on him since being drafted with the first overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2020. Fans thought he wasn’t as into basketball as any first-overall pick of the draft would be, but he has shattered everyone’s perception of him as he has become a true competitor, taking the Timberwolves to heights they have rarely reached in the past.

Edwards, every second he spends on the court, feels as if he is the best player on the court, no matter who he plays with on the court. The Timberwolves star, as fans now call him, has that “Dog” in him, because he loves to go up against the best and show that he is better than them.

Edwards’ belief in himself is infectious to such an extent that Klutch Sports’ star agent Rich Paul, who, as anyone may remember, once had the Timberwolves star as a client before deciding to change representation in 2023, is also in the promotion.

“I still think it’s a community, but I think that community is led by Anthony Edwards. I think Anthony Edwards is the best player in our league today,” Paul said on the Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman. “He’s the best player in the NBA, yes he is.”

Paul could use his ability to sweet-talk his clients to bring Edwards back to Klutch Sports, but still, the Timberwolves star has certainly accomplished some things that make him worthy of such hype. Now, calling him the “best” player in the NBA may be a bit of a hyperbole. Nonetheless, Paul believes Edwards ranks high among his peers.

Paul said, “The face of the league versus the best player. The face of the league, you have to grow into that, it’s something different. But the best player? Yeah, he’s the best player. You can’t watch a game against anybody on any given night and look at that game and say that guy is better than Anthony Edwards.”

The Los Angeles Lakers were certainly lucky to get Luka Doncic in a blockbuster trade that continues to be talked about around the association. However, the Lakers have already built their roster with Anthony Davis in mind that L.A. hasn’t yet been able to surround Doncic with the pieces he needs to make a championship charge.

Currently, the Lakers sit in fifth place in the Western Conference, and they have glaring roster deficiencies that they were not able to address before the trade deadline. Their defense is missing a lot of pieces to help cover for Doncic and Austin Reaves’ shortcomings on that side of the ball.

Of course, it’s impossible to count out any team with Doncic and LeBron James either way. Still, James acknowledged that the Lakers are dealing with the same issues as they have in years past, even though Doncic is now his co-star instead of Davis.

“We’re playing good ball sometimes, but the number one important thing for us is health. We finally got healthy with AR coming back and then Luka went down with the hamstring. So that’s going to be most important for our team. And it’s been that way for our team the last couple of years,” James said on the latest episode of the Mind the Game podcast.
