Flamengo have now moved beyond simple monitoring of Nottingham Forest striker Igor Jesus. Contact has been made.

According to a Brazilian journalist Mauro Cesar PereiraFlamengo consulted with the player’s camp to understand the terms of a potential deal.

This represents a step forward from Previous reports of interest. However, despite that inquiry, the move is currently considered unlikely within the Brazilian club.

Forest’s cooperation unlikely in mid-season

Forest are now fighting relegation under newly appointed manager Vitor Pereira. Given that context, giving up attacking depth would be a risky decision. As a result, Brazilian sources believe the Premier League side are not yet ready for discussions.

Igor Jesus joined Forest in July 2025 for around €11.5m (£10m). He signed a four-year contract running until June 30, 2029. This long-term agreement puts Forrest in a strong negotiating position. There is no reported financial pressure to sell.

In Brazil, he is valued at around €20m (£17m). A sale at that level would represent a sizable upside to Forrest’s initial investment. Still, timing is important. Survival is a priority at City Ground.

Number and profile under investigation

This season, the 24-year-old player has scored two goals in 25 matches. He has largely been featured as part of the rotation rather than an unquestioned starter. Those statistics help explain Flamengo’s caution.

The Rio club are reportedly willing to invest up to €30m (£25.5m) for the guaranteed first-choice striker. He has scouted high-profile names in the Premier League market before. Igor Jesus fits the age profile and offers tactical flexibility, but he doesn’t currently match the “automatic starter” description.

Internally, Flamengo believe there is a “50% chance” they will sign a new centre-forward before the window closes on 3 March. It appears doubtful whether Forest’s striker will be able to become that option.

For now, the contact has confirmed interest. However, with a contract until 2029 and an ongoing demotion battle, Forest have the advantage of leverage and time.
