Steelers rookie Drew Elar being compared to Super Bowl winning QB is a good and bad thing

A new report has revealed that some people inside the Pittsburgh Steelers organization think rookie quarterback Drew Elar is very similar to a certain Super Bowl-winning QB. And this is a good and bad thing.

While all signs point to the Steelers finally coming to terms on a new contract with future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers as their starting signal caller in 2026, the franchise did invest a draft pick at the position last month. With their selection in the third round (76th overall), Pittsburgh took Penn State QB Drew Elar.

Going in Round 3 shows how much talent the Steelers’ talent evaluators see in him, considering he only played six games last season after suffering an ankle injury. Well, on Saturday morning edition sports centerESPN’s Jeremy Fowler raised expectations high by making an intriguing revelation.

An NFL insider claimed that Allard “reminds one team executive of a young Joe Flacco.” Steelers decision-makers are very impressed with his size, smarts and his NFL-ready arm. The big strengths of his game are his in-the-moment decision-making and his footwork.

However, Fowler says many inside the organization believe new head coach Mike McCarthy is great at QB development and can get Elar to where he needs to be to become a starter one day.

There are far worse players than Flacco. The quarterback has roamed the league for 18 seasons. Playing for six different teams. He has been on several playoff teams, and played a notable role in the Baltimore Ravens’ last Super Bowl victory in 2012. He also has a great arm, and that’s why he continues to get jobs in the NFL even at the age of 41.

But plenty of fans also know the less attractive parts of Flacco’s game. During his peak, he would almost certainly post double-digit interceptions every year and only twice threw 25 or more touchdowns in a season. Since 2018, he has become one of the league’s premier backups for good reason because even though he is a good starter in the short term, the warts in his game always show up eventually.

Comparing Drew Elar to Joe Flacco isn’t terrible. But for Steelers fans hoping that maybe he could be developed into a franchise QB, it might not be the best thing they’ve heard so far from the rookie QB.

Darrin Peterson is being compared to Devin Booker in NBA circles

Nearly throughout the 2026 NBA Draft cycle so far, Kansas guard Darin Peterson has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in this year’s class. However, Peterson’s stock has not remained stable. There have been questions about his health and makeup as his workload at Kansas has not instilled enough confidence that he will be ready to take on superstar roles when he turns professional.

Nonetheless, Pietersen’s talent is readily apparent. His shooting ability is pure, and he can handle the rock with the best of them. He is one of the best pure scoring prospects ever seen in the NBA, and he is being compared to off-guards like Donovan Mitchell, Kobe Bryant, and even Brandon Roy who handle the ball a lot.

But for ESPN’s Vince Goodwill, the NBA player who comes to mind when he watches Peterson play is Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker.

“Talked to some guys earlier today. The name Devin Booker came up to me. Like someone brought up Devin Booker as a pro comp,” Goodwill said in an appearance on Brian Windhorst and The Hoop Collective. “The athleticism doesn’t exactly jump off the page, but he’s an athletic guard. Like he can get where he needs to get. The shot-making is elite.”

Will Darrin Peterson still be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft?

It’s unclear exactly why Peterson isn’t carrying such a heavy workload for Kansas, but there are concerns about his durability. His scoring has been incredible when he’s been there for the Jayhawks, but every team that drafts him first will want more assurances that the problems he’s dealing with aren’t of the long-term type.

However, the NBA always bets on talent, and there may not be a more talented player in this year’s draft than Peterson.

Compared to Cristiano Ronaldo – Liverpool are in contact for a transfer that would please the entire nation

Liverpool have made links to Hungarian winger Roland Salai, who has been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo.

This is according to BlickWhich covers the 28-year-old today. The Hungarian outfit are very excited about Salai potentially joining Liverpool, which would be a huge deal for Hungary.

Salai has excelled week in and week out at Galatasaray, even featuring at right-back. His form has attracted the interest of several major clubs, but Liverpool could emerge as the ‘real suitors’ among them.

The Turkish press now regularly refers to him as the ‘Hungarian Cristiano Ronaldo’ due to his technical ability and physical presence. Observers keep a close eye on his every move, on and off the pitch.

Salai also impressed the crowd with his performance in the 5-2 win over Juventus in the Champions League last week. Talk of some big step is definitely increasing.

Liverpool earning ‘special attention’

Sport Witness covered a report earlier this month Adding that Liverpool, Sunderland and Brentford had already been in contact.

Liverpool is earning ‘special attention’ from Hungary as one of those potential destinations. They are already home to Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez, Salai’s teammates at international level.

Having a third star at Anfield would certainly be a pleasure for the country, and that has been evident in Hungary. The Reds could do with a reliable right-back after their problems with that position this season.

There is no mention of transfer fees or effort at this point. But the Reds’ potential interest in Salai is not going unnoticed in his homeland.

Why the possibility of transfer – from the player’s father

His father is certainly ready to give a positive recommendation if the Liverpool people want it.

“I’ve always been proud of my son, because, and I say this without prejudice, he’s a very good kid.” Tibor Salai told the newspaper.

“As a father, it is an uplifting feeling to experience this. But my son also tries his best to be loved. Whatever position he is put in, he performs well.”

“At this level, there is no choice. As a professional footballer, he has to do what the coach says. Even though Rollie has special striker qualities, he has to give his maximum as a right-back.

“Roly feels good here, he loves the club, he doesn’t want to leave at any cost, but I think there is still another big step left in his career, a very big club.

“From here, he can only sign for a team that is really one of the top teams in the world. Liverpool could be one such destination, and I admit, if this club change were to happen now, in the winter, I would not be surprised.

“I know that contact has already been made through the management office.

“I don’t want to shout anything, but my son will have a really good chance in the summer. If there is a proposal that is also beneficial for Galatasaray to change the country and the level.

“It would be no ordinary moment if Liverpool took to the Anfield Road pitch with three Hungarians in the starting lineup.”

Dominic Szoboszlai is a huge star in Hungary, with his recent Liverpool free-kick hitting the front pages and earning him comparisons to David Beckham.

Adding a third from the country’s national team would be huge for Hungary and would give Liverpool even more fans in the country.

Rivaldo – a revelation compared to the player he has been since arriving from West Ham

Sporting CP has found an unexpected solution in Luis Guilherme record The youngster’s reporting under Rui Borges has become a revelation since arriving from West Ham United.

The 20-year-old arrived in January as a long-term project. However, its rapid adaptation has already forced its manager to rethink plans.

Rui Borges has publicly praised the Brazilian’s attitude in both training and matches, and is said to be internally impressed by the coaching staff at how quickly he absorbed tactical instructions.

The record describes a player who was “lost” in the Premier League. At West Ham, Guilherme only managed to make five appearances in the first half of the 2025/26 season. Sporting moves forward decisively In January, he added £12m (€14m) to the bonus he received for bringing him to Lisbon and invested a further £2.6m (€3m).

Work ethic attracting attention since West Ham transfer

Since then, Guilherme’s impact has surprised even those who pushed for his signature. After his recent performance against Moreirense, Rui Borges reportedly strengthened his positive assessment of a player who trains at full intensity and regularly stays behind for additional tactical and finishing practice.

In addition, the Brazilian carefully manages his diet and reviews each of his matches at home. The training center has resulted in a level of application where commitment and detail are non-negotiable.

His football education also plays a role. During his six years in the academy of Brazilian side Palmeiras, Guilherme operated as a left-back, box-to-box midfielder and even a false nine in seven-a-side football. As a result, the left-footed player reads the game faster and understands the movements of teammates more easily.

The Record goes further and notes that, stylistically, he has been compared to Rivaldo. It’s no light comparison… yet Sporting believe his personality and maturity justify optimism.

Away from the pitch, he is described as reserved and disciplined. He married his longtime partner, Giovanna, at the age of 19 and continued to follow a structured parenting, having moved from northeastern Brazil to São Paulo at an early age.

A lesson for West Ham?

West Ham

For West Ham, this development inevitably raises questions. The Hammers signed Guilherme as part of their wider investment in young Brazilian talent. However, the limited minutes underlined how difficult the Premier League transition can be.

Sporting’s willingness to pay £12 million upfront shows they have seen value that others cannot unlock. If their trajectory continues, West Ham may consider whether they moved too quickly or simply failed to provide the right platform.

Either way, Guilherme’s resurgence in Portugal highlights how context and confidence can transform a career in a matter of weeks.
