Rumor opens the door to monster Kevin Durant trade for Jimmy Butler this summer

Recent reports are clearing the way for a monster trade that has Kevin Durant returning to the Golden State Warriors and Jimmy Butler returning to the Houston Rockets.

On Friday night, the Rockets saw their promising season come to a very disappointing end with a Game 6 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs. What made their elimination more troubling is that they could not beat a Lakers team that was without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves for most of the series.

Still, this shouldn’t come as a complete shock. Something was going wrong with the Rockets team for several months. And it seemed like it all started with All-Star Weekend drama amid speculation that Durant had a Burner X account where he mocked his Houston teammates.

Most believed it was a foolish situation that would be quickly forgotten in the locker room. However, a new report from The Athletic’s William Guillory and Sam Amick adds to the debate that the All-Star Game allegations were a problem in the locker room and worsened because they were never formally addressed by the future Hall of Famer.

“Multiple league sources with close ties to Rockets players indicated that the social media situation was a significant distraction that was never resolved internally,” the report reveals. “…Privately, league sources said [Durant’s] The teammates agreed to keep the matter at home while they focused on basketball. It is unclear whether Durant ever made it clear to his associates whether the account was his or not.

Should the Houston Rockets consider trading Kevin Durant this summer?

All of this begs the question: Should the Rockets trade Durant this summer because he seems like a bad mix on a team that was on a massive upward trend before he arrived a year ago? The Guillory and Amick report provides reasons why this is unlikely. They gave him a waiver on the extension and opted to come to Houston. Plus, when Fred VanVleet and Steven Adams suffered season-ending injuries, the Rockets probably always had a ceiling.

Still, there have been major body language problems with this group for several months, and they’ve never come close to reaching the potential expected by most basketball pundits. Before things get worse, it may be wise to seek divorce instead of withdrawing. But where could the Rockets send Durant, and what could they get back?

Why trading Jimmy Butler for Kevin Durant makes sense

jimmy butler
Kelly L Cox-Imagen Images

The danger in moving Durant is that Houston gave up a lot to get him. Can they really get the same value to chase the title in 2026-27? This limits the options significantly, but leaves an interesting idea. Trading Durant to the Warriors for Jimmy Butler.

It’s well established that the Warriors are eager to reunite with Durant after the 16-time All-Star helped lead them to three consecutive Finals trips – two wins – during his three seasons in California. The team has been searching for a superstar for the last two years and bringing back the devil they know, not the devil they don’t know.

Plus, while Butler was good in Golden State, we know for a fact that Durant is a better fit there. Especially if coach Steve Kerr returns next season. Additionally, a case can be made that Butler would be a better fit in Houston under Ime Udoka. A defensive-minded coach like Erik Spoelstra and Butler were fantastic with him in Miami.

The biggest issue is that the soon-to-be 37-year-old is trying to bounce back from a torn ACL. It would be understandable if the Rockets weren’t interested in two veterans potentially coming off ACL tears (VanVleet) next season. But matching the money in a trade in a Durant for Butler swap is far easier than most potential deals.

If Golden State is willing to give up a future first-round pick to sweeten the pot, it would be an offer Houston should seriously consider. A lineup of Kristaps Porzingis, Draymond Green, Durant, Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski, and Alpern Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., Butler, Amen Thompson and VanVleet looks very good for the Warriors.

Former teammate says Kevin Durant no longer a ‘desirable player’ in the NBA

They were teammates for three and a half years. Heck, they even went to the NBA Finals together. But at this point we can assume that Kevin Durant and Kendrick Perkins do not have a good relationship. Certainly not after the latest salvo of perks to land.

It is rumored that Durant wants to move on from Houston after the season, raising the question of which teams would want to trade for him. As far as Perkins is concerned, the former big man for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics (now an ESPN mouthpiece) was asked today if KD is still a desirable asset for NBA teams. He replied firmly in the negative.

“Oh no!” Perkins began. “I believe Kevin Durant is basketball’s greatest scorer of all time… But let’s focus on facts instead of emotions right now: Brooklyn Nets? Disaster? Phoenix Suns? He ran through two or three coaches, two of them championship caliber coaches. A disaster…

“Let’s look at the Houston Rockets… What’s been the biggest thing on the Rockets this year? Chemistry. It’s bad to the point where people are questioning, ‘Is Ime Udoka still a good coach?’

Durant ‘hasn’t made a connection with anyone’ on Rockets

There were certainly rumors at the end of this season that other Houston players were regretting the fact that they traded Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks for Durant. According to a report, “Kevin hasn’t hooked up with anyone here yet.” And this was at the end of March.

Yes, Durant put up his usual superstar numbers on the court this season. But off the court? It seems like he doesn’t fit in well with the team.

The Rockets finished with the same 52 wins last season, but that’s good for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference in 2024-25. this year? Finishing in 5th place, and no home court for this first round series with the Lakers.

After falling 0-3, the Rockets staved off elimination on Sunday by winning Game 4 without Durant. He has missed the last two games and is still listed as “day-to-day” for Game 5 on Wednesday night.

Fans are defeated by Rockets star’s shocking advice to Kevin Durant about double-teaming trap

Houston Rockets And Kevin Durant has a tough task ahead of him Los Angeles Lakers City are coming in and trying to take a commanding 3-0 lead over them in their first round playoff series. So, all eyes will be on Durant and how he responds after one of the worst stretches of his NBA career.

LeBron James has dominated his way into this series, but the Lakers have got excellent, timely performances from Luke Kennard (27 points in Game 1) and Marcus Smart (25 points in Game 2).

Meanwhile, Kevin Durant only played in Game 2 and while he finished with a strong line in the contest, he had one of his worst outings leading to the Rockets’ second straight loss.

The two-time NBA champion finished Game 2 with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists while shooting 7 of 12 from the field. But he had a career high with nine turnovers in the game, scoring only three points with five turnovers in the entire second half.

This was because the Lakers repeatedly used the tactic of double-teaming him, testing his decision-making abilities while forcing his Houston teammates to try to beat them.

But before Game 3, Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. was asked how the team can help Durant get involved offensively as he sees more and more double-teaming in the half-court. However, Smith’s reaction to his partner’s distress was quite surprising.

Jabari Smith Jr. gives surprising advice to Durant’s double-teaming trap

Responding to reporters who asked him what could be done to assist Kevin Durant in light of facing double teams, Smith Jr. said:

“They try to stop him and other guys have to be aggressive, so we have to be aggressive with that.”

“We’ve got to study it right, make the right decisions. And it’s on him to find ways to get himself involved and get to his spots without getting double-teamed.”

But then, Jabari Smith Jr. essentially seemed to tell Durant to come up with a solution himself, causing fans to lose their minds on social media.

“Just because he’s getting double-teamed, we still need him to be his KD, you know? There’s still ways around it, and we’ve got some solutions [the trapping of Durant]And we’ll get better the next two games,” Smith Jr. said.

Basketball fans react to Smith Jr.’s KD advice

His comments brought a ton of reactions from fans, many of whom were reminded of Durant’s recent chat about Jabari Smith.

“Kevin Durant you were the right guy,” one fan said along with crying emojis and a screenshot of Durant’s burner account DMs that surfaced during the NBA All-Star break.

Another fan said, “KD heard Jabari call him that and suddenly ankle injury pops up out of thin air lmao bro if you feel like that I’m leaving all y’all boys to die.”

Reactions varied widely, with some opining that KD could not be blamed when his teammates were absent in action.

NBA reporter Brett Siegel said, “Not sure why Kevin Durant has a problem when his teammates can’t catch the ball.”

One fan commented, “Open shots bro. Fuck everything else.”

Another fan wrote, “The chemistry on that team is worse than the Lakers in 2004.”

Another fan said, “These guys’ chemistry is in the gutter.”

However, it will be interesting to see how Kevin Durant Finds a solution to avoid these double teams. Game 3 is scheduled for Friday night at 5 PM PST, and it will be the Rockets’ last stand before the series wraps up.

Isiah Thomas hypothetically humiliates MJ with wild Kevin Durant

One of the safest bets in sports is that when Isiah Thomas appears on a talk show, he’ll find a way to disrespect his former rival Michael Jordan, with whom he had a much-publicized beef during his NBA career. Thomas was apparently very upset when he was left off the 1992 Olympic “Dream Team”, allegedly on Jordan’s orders.

Recently, Thomas stopped by FanDuel’s “Run It Back” show and took a wild hypothetical about what might have happened if Kevin Durant, not Jordan, was running the ship for those iconic Chicago Bulls teams of the 1990s.

“I said to Kevin Durant, if you had played in our era, and they put you in the triple post in that mid-post area, and they took Michael Jordan out, and you played with Pippen, and you played with Kukoc… could he have won six championships? Absolutely,” Thomas said, previously on Twitter, according to Run It Back on X. “…With all of them around, and him getting a chance to post up in the mid-range…yeah, he can do the same thing.”

Thomas could have possibly made his point about Durant’s greatness without bringing up Jordan’s name, but that might have been asking too much of the great point guard.

Thomas and the Detroit Pistons were one of the few teams that had their way against Jordan early in his career, before he overcame them en route to winning six NBA championships over an eight-year period in the 1990s.

Of course, Thomas was a special player in his own right, winning multiple championships with the Pistons and establishing himself as one of the greatest point guards of all-time.

However, it doesn’t look like he and Jordan will be making amends any time soon.

Kevin Durant edges out Anthony Edwards, Luka Doncic on list of next greatest players of all time

On Saturday, Kevin Durant passed Michael Jordan and is now fifth on the all-time scoring list – a huge accomplishment for the future Hall of Famer and arguably the best pure scorer in NBA history. But the Houston Rockets star is still lagging in scoring points, especially if Monday night is any indication. Despite the Houston Rockets’ 132–124 loss to the Chicago Bulls, Durant once again dominated and recorded 40 points in his team’s failed comeback bid.

Before everything is said and done in Durant’s career, it is very likely that he will also surpass Kobe Bryant’s all-time scoring tally, which would put him in fourth place on the all-time scoring list. If he continues to play at a high level for three more seasons, he could even surpass Karl Malone.

But the Rockets star knows his spot on the all-time scoring list is not secure. In fact, he’s celebrating players like Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards and believes they are on their way to eventually catching him.

“Sooner than that. There’s a lot of people in the way,” Durant said in an appearance on Boardroom Talks. “They hit the same marks I hit that time.”

Indeed, Doncic and Edwards have been scoring machines early in their careers, and they show no signs of slowing down. The former, in particular, has been on a heater lately, even dropping 60 points in a recent win over the Miami Heat.

Now the goal of the next generation is to stay healthy. Soft tissue injuries are more serious than ever. Actually, Edwards is currently suffering from knee problems.

But Durant has missed significant time in his career; He suffered a foot injury during his OKC days, in 2019 he missed the entire 2019-20 season, and he has also faced some injury problems over the past few seasons. But he’s still racking up points – leaving a legacy he hopes will do just that.

“I hope I made the same impact on the game,” Durant said.

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant was insightful about his thoughts as he nears retirement from his playing career in the NBA.

Durant has been in the NBA since 2007 and has shined as one of the greatest scorers the league has ever seen. Fast forward to the present time, he is succeeding as one of the top experienced scorers.

However, he also knows it won’t last forever. He made an appearance on The Boardroom Podcast, realizing that his time in the league was closer to ending than he thought.

“There’s going to come a time when it’s not going to be my place. And we’re getting close to it. And it’s crazy to think like the season is ending, like right now it’s March. April, the season is almost over in April. It’s just like where I spent my whole life doing this every day. It’s a part of my routine. I center my life around this, this is the game. So to know that hopefully I have a few years left to do this We have to start preparing for the next step,” Durant said at 21:04.

“For me, I’ve accepted that I’ll never be able to fill that spot, and I wouldn’t even call it the spot that was there. The thing that’s satisfied me is the little things that come with it. Like just the camaraderie, the camaraderie, the people I’ve met. Just interacting with basketball fans from all over the world. That’s the best part. I can still hang out. I can still go to the gym and shoot and have that routine when I’m done playing.” Will be focused on basketball.”

Kevin Durant gives flowers to MJ after passing the scoring list

On Saturday evening, the Houston Rockets picked up a big home win over the Miami Heat thanks to Amen Thompson’s last-second tip shot. Its big story happened late in the fourth quarter, when Rockets star Kevin Durant hit a three-pointer from the corner to pass Michael Jordan on the all-time scoring list.

Recently, Durant stopped by the boardroom and discussed Jordan’s impact on the game after he was added to the list.

“MJ is bigger than the game. I mean, it doesn’t matter who surpasses him in stats or who wins more, it’s going to be tough to win. Go 6-0. Even if you surpass him in anything, his impact on the game and the culture in general is huge,” said Durant, via X, formerly of NBA Courtside, on Twitter.

In fact, Jordan was a larger-than-life figure in the game of basketball, winning at the highest level on numerous occasions and in many ways leading the popularity of the game around the world.

Durant, meanwhile, has been regarded as one of the game’s all-time greatest scorers during his future Hall of Fame career, and he continues to put up elite numbers with the Rockets, a team looking to maintain their finish in the Western Conference’s top six.

Houston was in danger of losing earlier this week with two consecutive home losses to the Los Angeles Lakers, but they have bounced back with wins over the Atlanta Hawks and now the Heat on Saturday.

The Rockets will look to make it three consecutive wins when they take the court for a road game against the Chicago Bulls on Monday evening.

Ime Udoka ‘honored’ as Kevin Durant surpasses Michael Jordan

The Houston Rockets witnessed history when Kevin Durant passed Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, and head coach Ime Udoka made sure the moment was one to remember. For the Rockets, it was bigger than the numbers. This was legacy. This was greatness unfolding in real time. Under the lights, milestones like this reshape the way fans view the game.

“It’s an honor for everybody to be apart of him… being in the top 5 all time in scoring doesn’t want to be an afterthought. The efficiency, the professionalism with which he plays with you takes it for granted. To pass a name like MJ is a huge accomplishment. I’m sure he’ll have a few more names to bite into going forward.”

Durant’s ascent reflects more than longevity. This shows precision. This shows discipline. Night after night, he delivers. That consistency matters, especially in a league that moves so fast.

A milestone that demands attention for the Rockets

At the same time, surpassing Michael Jordan on the NBA scoring list forces a pause. It demands recognition. Very few players are able to reach that level. Still very few people have progressed beyond this. For the Rockettes, having a front row seat adds meaning. Ime Udoka understands this.

Meanwhile, the next name on the NBA scoring list is Kobe Bryant. The difference is within reach. As a result, each point brings Kevin Durant closer to another great mark.

Still, Durant isn’t slowing down. Instead, the climb continues. The numbers keep rising up the NBA scoring list.

And as the list continues to change, one question is now echoing louder than ever: How many more giants will Kevin Durant pass before his job is done?

Why was it so special for Kevin Durant to surpass Michael Jordan on the scoring list?

Kevin Durant was practical with his thoughts about surpassing Michael Jordan on the NBA’s all-time scoring list in the Houston Rockets’ win over the Miami Heat on Saturday night.

A lot of these guys inspire me to work on my game as much as I can…I’m inspired by all the players I’ve either passed or are getting close to. MJ is in a world of his own. He’s a planet/galaxy of his own. Someone I look up to and respect as well. Who basically shaped the game for me,” Durant said. Said.

Kevin Durant passes Michael Jordan on NBA’s all-time scoring list

Houston Rockets superstar Kevin Durant continues to add to his Hall of Fame resume late in his career, and what he accomplished on Saturday night against the Miami Heat may be his greatest accomplishment yet. By scoring his 27th point against the Heat, Durant passed Michael Jordan’s 32,292 career points to move into fifth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Very few players can match the accomplishments that Jordan accomplished during his illustrious career, which is why this is such a great accomplishment for Durant. Already known as one of the most lethal scorers in NBA history, Durant now has a top-five scoring rating to back up that claim.

After passing Jordan for fifth on the all-time scoring list, Durant will now look to pass Kobe Bryant’s 33,643 career points, potentially moving him into fourth place sometime during the 2026-27 season. Karl Malone (36,928), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), and LeBron James (43,241 and counting) are likely out of Durant’s reach at this point in his career.

Jordan was considered by many players during the Durant era to be the greatest player in league history, including the 16-time All-Star. That’s why Durant is still surprised to see his name next to all the greats of the game, including Jordan.

“It’s great to be in the same category as some of the greatest players to ever play this game,” Durant said recently, via NBA.com. “He has added so much to the game that has inspired me to stay for so long.”

When he passed Dirk Nowitzki for sixth on the all-time scoring list against the New Orleans Pelicans on January 18, Durant said it was “crazy” to be on the list with a “legend” like Nowitzki.

Durant said, “I want to continue to make a lot of appearances, climb up the charts, just see how I finish. It’s been amazing so far.”

What makes all these late-career accomplishments even more amazing is the fact that Durant has continued to play like one of the best players in the NBA even after suffering an Achilles injury in the 2019 NBA Finals and missing all of the 2019-20 season.

Very few athletes are able to return to the sport they love after an Achilles injury and still remain effective. Not only has Durant done this, but his overall production and value have remained unchanged before and after the injury.

Durant has had one of the most decorated careers in basketball history, especially when you include his Team USA accomplishments at the Olympics, and surpassing Jordan on the all-time scoring list is another reminder of how great KD is.

Kevin Durant announces LeBron James, 45

On Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers continued their winning streak with their second consecutive win over the Houston Rockets. It was an epic game for LeBron James, who scored 30 points on a hyper-efficient 13-of-14 from the field in the win.

After the game, fellow icon Kevin Durant told reporters that he believes James can play in the NBA until he is 45, according to Law Murray, formerly of Twitter, of The Athletic on X.

Durant said, “I don’t know if he wants to stay that long. But I think honestly, he can play another 4-5 years… It’s no surprise now.”

In fact, the NBA has never seen anything like what James has been able to accomplish at age 41. While he’s not the same athlete he was during his Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers days, James remains a nightmare for opposing defenses in the open court, able to force his way to the basket, as he did with several impressive dunks on Wednesday night.

As his NBA career has progressed, he has also improved his perimeter jumper, and of course, his basketball IQ is as strong as it has ever been.

In recent weeks, James has begun to take on more of a backseat role for the Lakers, allowing teammates Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves to do the heavy lifting on offense. While Doncic scored 40 points in Wednesday’s win over Houston, James was clearly the second option in this affair, dismantling Houston’s defense and draining difficult jumpers.

With this win, the Lakers have increased their lead on the field for third place in the Western Conference, and will take the field again for a game against the Miami Heat on Thursday evening.

Rockets’ Kevin Durant not sweating potential Lakers playoff matchup despite struggles

The Houston Rockets would have lost their match against the Los Angeles Lakers to end the season series 2–1 for LA. However, despite the 124-116 loss, Kevin Durant was in no mood to back down after the game.

The 16-time All-Star said after the game that he was confident his team would learn from the loss, claiming the Lakers’ defense was focused on ‘slowing them down,’ according to a post on The Athletic’s Law Murray.

Durant said, “This is the best version of their defense that they will present against us. If we play them again, we’ll have film to watch and learn from. But that’s the only option they can present to us to slow us down.”

According to Athlon Sports, Durant cited the Rockets’ shooting struggles during the 35–24 fourth quarter, claiming he felt he had lost the game to his team.

“I feel like I lost the game for us tonight. It’s that simple. I mean, honestly, I’m aggressive and the opposing team is going to use all of their resources and not let me get comfortable,” he said.

The win extended the Lakers’ winning streak to seven games while improving their record to 44–25. The Rockets fell to 41-27, giving the Lakers consecutive losses.

Luka Doncic led the Lakers with a 40-point performance, including 10 assists and nine rebounds, while shooting 12-of-25 from the field and 7-of-17 from three-point range. The Lakers saw LeBron James shoot 13 of 14 for 30 points, while Austin Reaves and DeAndre Ayton also combined for 30 points.

Durant finished with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, shooting 7 of 11 from the field and 2 of 5 from three. He had only two points in the first half, 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting in the third quarter, and three points on only two shot attempts in the fourth quarter.

Durant recorded 18 points in each of both games. In the previous 100–92 loss, Houston scored only 12 points in the fourth quarter, going 4 of 16 with nine turnovers. Regardless, the Rockets’ main man clearly believes his team will learn from their mistakes and is confident about a potential face-off in the playoffs.

Why doesn’t Kevin Durant care about not scoring 60 points in a game?

Houston Rockets All-Star forward Kevin Durant is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, but he has never recorded a 60-point game. His career-high score is 55, but his pace and legacy are far more important for the 19-year-old veteran. Only Los Angeles Lakers All-Star LeBron James can match Durant’s longevity and dominance as Kevin approaches his second decade in the association.

According to Michael Lee of The Ringer, Durant explained why he was never interested in scoring 60 points in a game.

“I’m in this for the long term, man,” Durant said. “I just want to win the game and go home. I know it’s been a talking point for me: ‘You don’t have 60, 70.’ You can’t just look at a 60-point game and say, ‘That’s what KD is all about.’ You have to look at my entire career and analyze what I actually did to understand the type of player I am. I like it that way.

“It’s like a story that way. I didn’t want to be a flash in the pan. I just wanted to be consistently great. I don’t have a 60, but that’s a lot of stats I’ve made up on my own.”

Durant is the only player in NBA history to finish a season with 56.0/40.4/91.9 percent shooting splits, a feat he accomplished in 2022-23. Kevin says it’s a testament to the sacrifices he’s made to pursue his career, abandoning friends, partying and having fun. However, in order to persist, he realized that he had left nothing behind.

Rockets All-Star Kevin Durant was double-teamed by the Lakers in Monday’s 100-92 loss. That’s the kind of treatment you get when you’re one of the game’s elite scorers. Durant finished with 18 points on 8-for-16 shooting.

Aside from Lakers All-Star LeBron James, Durant is the only NBA player to average 25+ points for such a long period of time, which is indicative of his consistent approach.

As Lee said, “He and LeBron are the only players to average at least 25 points for more than 12 seasons.” “Durant has never played a game in which he made more than 19 field goals and averaged fewer than 19 shots per game in his career. On the night he scored a career-high 55 points, he took only 28 shots. On the night he scored a career-high 55 points, he took only 28 shots.

He reached 32,000 points in fewer games than any player other than Jordan. To which Durant asked, “What’s more important to some people – that or 60 points?” Durant remains the youngest NBA scoring champion and the youngest player to win three consecutive scoring titles.

Durant has always played the long game.

Kevin Durant roasted after missing second half vs. Lakers

In the first half of the Houston Rockets’ 100-92 loss against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night, things were going pretty routine for superstar Kevin Durant. He scored 16 points in the first 24 minutes of the game as the Rockets took a six-point lead at 57–51. But at least it can be said that Durant’s sophomore season did not go according to plan.

The Lakers mixed up their coverage on Durant, as he challenged other Rockets players to beat him. After Alperen Sengun’s exit, this appeared to be a more viable strategy than ever. And it worked; Durant was held scoreless for the first 23 or so minutes of the second half, with his only two points during this period coming with just 30 seconds remaining in the game.

This disappearing act was nerve-wracking for one of the NBA’s best scorers, and as a result, he received some hearty mockery on social media – especially from bettors.

X user @DoYourHomeworkJ wrote, “What Kevin Durant just did is criminal, he’s crazy. Watching it at halftime I was like yes, this shit is easy. This guy had 0 points in the second half. A 2 point shot with 30 seconds left doesn’t count you’re terrible.”

@KimCarloCastro said, “Durant is being praised and lauded only because he got scared of the double team. And scored just 2 wasted points in the second half.”

@KingSenay added, “Kevin Durant only scored 2 points in an entire half of close games? You can’t tell me these players are paid.”

@PayMe_inPizza expressed, “Kevin Durant Hamburger Helper Hair is gonna talk about our bullshit too. You sold us out for a few more bucks, you scored 2 points in the entire second half. You’re the fuck king, you’re an idiot, you’re an idiot.”

The Lakers deserve credit for locking up Durant, but rational basketball sense never mattered to bettors who lost out on a spectacular pay day.

LeBron James is the perfect pick for the toughest Kevin Durant version ever

Monday night marked the 31st regular season matchup between two of the greatest small forwards to ever play the game of basketball, as LeBron James and Kevin Durant prepared to do battle once again. In the end, James earned his 20th regular season win over Durant after the Los Angeles Lakers blocked Durant en route to a 100–92 victory.

Durant faced an aggressive Lakers defensive scheme designed to take the ball out of his hands, and as a result he was limited to two points in the second half. This led to a late-game surge from LA, allowing them to build a more comfortable cushion against the third seed in the Western Conference.

After the game, James gave Durant the greatest form of respect Having said that, it’s difficult to guard every version of the Rockets star and in every single game, he gets as much respect as the Lakers gave him on Monday.

“Every edition. He’s getting better and better,” James said via @ohnohedidnt24 on X (formerly Twitter). “We had a fight in the finals, too. Even when he was younger, when it was him and Russ and James, he was never good at basketball.”

James said in his post-game comments that defending Durant becomes more difficult when he is allowed to go one-on-one – which he was not on Monday night.

James added, “He was extremely dynamic in Golden State because you can’t have a lot of bodies on him all the time because of the threat of Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson).”

“Any time you can’t put that many bodies in front of a great player who has the ability to score the ball, it’s very challenging.”

A first-round matchup between James and Durant is likely, especially with the competition for spots three through six in the West standings so tight.

Kevin Durant reacts to Lakers’ strategy that silenced them in clutch

Kevin Durant has a ton of one-on-one counters, making him one of the greatest one-on-one scorers of all time. But things are different in a team setting. Durant faced an offensive scheme in the second half of the Houston Rockets’ Monday night contest against the Los Angeles Lakers, as the Lakers threw multiple defenders at the Rockets star at every turn to get the ball out of his hands.

This ploy of the Lakers worked; Durant remained quiet throughout the second half of the Rockets’ 100–92 loss, scoring just two points in the second half and finishing with 18 on the night. This was not at all the kind of performance that Houston needed from their best scorer in a game where they were missing Alperen Sengun.

After the game, Durant reflected on what he and the Rockets were doing should have done instead To try and counter the Lakers’ double-teaming.

“I think we just have to convert. Maybe I just have to move out of the way, go to the corner, make space for other guys. When I get the ball against some teams, they’re just going to sell out,” Durant said in his postgame presser, via WorldwideWeb on X (formerly Twitter).

“I’m starting to understand that I feel like I need to get out of the way and let other people dribble the ball.”

The Rockets’ youth will have to step up to help Kevin Durant.

Durant is not innocent at all; He attempted to become a game starter for the Rockets, which went straight into the Lakers’ hands.

However, the Rockets’ youngsters, namely Reed Shepard, Jabari Smith Jr. and Amen Thompson, will have to be more active in receiving the rock and making plays. This is going to be a learning moment for Houston, especially with less than a month until the playoffs begin.

How Bill Simmons leaned into the extreme Kawhi Leonard vs. Kevin Durant debate

LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard and Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant are two of the greatest players of all time. Although both players are nearing the end of their careers, both are still playing at a high level. And when it comes to the debate over which player had the better career peak, NBA media personality Bill Simmons leans 55-45 toward Leonard.

During a recent episode of ‘The Bill Simmons Podcast’ as a guest of former NBA player and current analyst Tim Legler, Simmons explained why he’s leaning toward picking Kawhi Leonard over Kevin Durant as far as extremes go.

“If you’re talking about pure talented forwards in this century, LeBron is in first place. It’s probably him [Kawhi] For that second forward spot versus KD,” Simmons said. “In terms of pure talent, if I had an extreme version of either of these guys for a season, which one would you want, there’s a pretty good argument. . .It could be 55-45 towards Kawhi, that I would lean.

Durant is in his 18th season in the NBA while Leonard is in his 14th season. When it comes to accolades, Leonard has made six All-NBA teams, while Durant has made 11 All-NBA teams. Durant has one MVP award while Leonard has two Defensive Player of the Year awards. Leonard has seven All-Star appearances and Durant has 16 All-Star nominations.

Both players have two championships each along with two Finals MVP awards. It’s an interesting debate, but it’s certain that both are future Hall of Famers.

Leonard is averaging 28.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals this season, while shooting 50.1 percent from the field, 37.8 percent from the 3-point line and 89.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Durant is averaging 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists while shooting 51.5 percent from the field, 40.6 percent from the 3-point line and 88.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Kevin Durant immortalizes Bam Adebayo’s 83-point game

When Kevin Durant was asked about Bam Adebayo’s historic scoring explosion on Tuesday, he didn’t hesitate. The Houston Rockets superstar gave a powerful reaction after the Miami Heat center delivered one of the greatest individual performances ever in the league. Adebayo exploded for 83 points in Miami’s 150-129 win over the Washington Wizards, instantly rewriting the record books and sparking buzz throughout the NBA. For Durant, a player widely considered one of basketball’s purest scorers, the magnitude of the moment was clear as the Rockets star reflected on what the performance meant to the game.

As a result, the stunning explosion now ranks second on the NBA’s all-time single-game scoring list. Only Wilt Chamberlain’s famous 100-point game surpasses Adebayo’s, who surpassed Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point performance. Additionally, the key performance included sustained trips to the free-throw line, where Adebayo set a single-game record with 36 free throws on 43 attempts. As a result, the Heat rode that offensive explosion to a solid win over Washington, while the wider league reacted in disbelief at the historic statistical avalanche.

Durant, a four-time scoring champion, knows as much about getting buckets as anyone. The former 2013-2014 NBA MVP and two-time champion joined the Rockets in a blockbuster offseason trade from the Phoenix Suns and remains one of the most lethal scorers of all-time. His pedigree made praise for Adebayo’s historic 83-point performance Tuesday night echo across the league.

NBA on ESPN’s Vanessa Richardson

“Something we’ll always talk about.”

The 37-year-old’s words reflected a league-wide reaction. When one of basketball’s greatest scorers approaches a performance with that level of reverence, it underlines the gravity of the moment. Adebayo’s 83-point masterpiece is now one of the defining achievements in NBA history.

Green’s defiant mic falls in defense of Kawhi, Durant, SGA

The Golden State Warriors are going through a tough phase at the moment and have lost three of their last four matches. However, they have also come up against some top teams, with the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and most recently the Oklahoma City Thunder all testing Golden State.

To make things even worse, a plethora of injuries have left the Warriors that is Draymond Green having to lead the defense against some of the best players in the league. And well, the 36-year-old Warriors veteran considers it a ‘badge of honour’.

“Think our coaching staff realizes that I have a lot of energy when I get stuff like that. Because, like I said, if coach calls on me to guard Kawhi, to guard KD, to guard Shea, that’s a badge of honor. I mean, I’m 36 years old, three games in a row, that’s a badge of honor,” Drummond said in a post on X by Warriors reporter Joseph Dykes. Explained accordingly.

Green said it was ‘amazing’ to be tasked by Steve Kerr with protecting these players at this point in his career, and it energized him greatly. This is also evident from the fact that the four-time champion leaves everything behind whenever he is on the court.

Against the Thunder, he was not only the defensive lynchpin, but also the Warriors’ third-highest scorer with 16 points.

“And so, then I have to take that responsibility and make sure we don’t have to help each other. And yet, I’m a very proud person. I can’t go out there and commit murder. That’s what happens when you’re playing against great players like that. But, at the same time, for me, I just can’t lay down. I can’t go out there and feel like it’s easy,” Green said.

And while there have been critics who have questioned his over-the-top playing style, Green’s commitment is unmatched, and perhaps the biggest reason why he has been a consistent winner with the Warriors for over a decade.

Former coach reveals one regret of failed attempts to land Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Zion Williamson, Ja Morant

The New York Knicks have tried to land a superstar for years. From pursuing LeBron James’ free agency in 2010 to being linked to stars like Donovan Mitchell and even Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Knicks appear to be home to one of basketball’s biggest stars and a perennial championship contender. But, that effort to acquire franchise-changing talent hindered the Knicks for several years.

In an interview with Fan Duel TV play it backFormer Knicks coach David Fizdale looks back at the 2018-2019 season, where New York went 17-65. According to him, the team was trying to land either Zion Williamson or Ja Morant in the 2019 NBA Draft, while also trying to land Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

“I was totally on board with the plan we came up with, and I thought this was the deal and this was the way to go about it. It didn’t work out… losing all the games, sacrificing our record to get Zion Williamson or Ja.

He added, “That summer our guys thought KD and Kyrie were definitely coming to us, but it didn’t work out.”

The Knicks have had some productive role players on the team, such as Luke Kornet, who is emerging as a backup center with the Spurs this season. Tim Hardaway, Courtney Lee and Enes Kanter have had productive years in the league and Kristaps Porziņš, though battling injuries, recently helped the Boston Celtics win the 2024 NBA title.

But Fizdale believed the roster construction was not really conducive to winning.

“When you look at that roster as a whole, all solid players, but when you put them on the floor together, the pieces weren’t working… If I were doing it again, I would have struggled more to make a team early on and not cash in on my record.”

Overall, Fizdale brought a different take to the conversation about tanking. The tanking discussion has been a big one throughout the season, and Fizdale offered a different perspective on it.

“That’s the hard part for coaches when you agree to tank. When you tank, you have to build something big. Not everything that happens is considered a tank… That’s not the formula.”

Why is Kevin Durant ‘thanking God’ for NBA salary cap rules?

The Houston Rockets have been up and down lately, currently sitting at 38-22 after a recent narrow road win over the Washington Wizards. The Rockets’ solid roster construction has allowed them to survive despite playing without Fred VanVleet and Steven Adams for most of this year.

Roster construction has been a topic of debate in the NBA in recent years, with various cap restrictions and aprons making it difficult for teams to assemble truly effective squads.

However, one person who is a fan is Rockets star Kevin Durant.

“Thank God for the second apron and the first apron,” Durant said, per Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press via The Washington Post.

“We wanted some parity and I think that’s exactly what we’ve gotten over the last few years,” he said. “I mean, it’s fun for everybody watching the game, not knowing who will be there at the end of the season. And as a team, it gives you the confidence to know that even if you don’t play your best ball right now, nobody really is. … Teams are trying to figure out what lineups they want to use, (after) trades, all that stuff, so it’s a fun time to be in the league.”

Ironically, Durant’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors was a large part of the reason why the league had so much incentive to implement a second apron, as Golden State had dominated the league for the three years he was in the Bay Area.

However, now, many would argue that the pendulum has swung too far in the opposite direction, with teams seeking smart roster construction essentially being penalized by not being able to keep their core together, even if they are all homegrown.

In any case, the Rockets next face off on Thursday against the Golden State Warriors.

Kevin Durant feeling excited about the Trae Young-Anthony Davis era

The Houston Rockets earned a hard-earned 123-118 win against the Washington Wizards at Capital One Center on Monday, with Kevin Durant and Alpern Sengun doing most of the damage.

What was supposed to be a one-sided affair for the Rockets turned out to be a tight contest as the Wizards played hard with a scrappy group of role players.

However, Washington will finally get a star when Trae Young makes his debut on Thursday against the Utah Jazz. Young missed most of the season due to an MCL injury.

Durant, who cheered the Wizards as a child, expressed his excitement over Young’s return. He said that the pairing of Young and Anthony Davis should do wonders As for Washington, who has long been a cellar-dweller.

“He (Young) is dynamic. A guy that can create for everybody, score for himself. He’ll make the game easier for everybody else on the floor. He’s a true point guard. Right now, they’re doing it by committee, so with him being there, it will make everybody’s mind and their game easier, and they can just settle into their roles,” Durant said in a video on the Space City Home Network.

“I’m excited for the hometown team. I’m also excited for Eddie to wear the jersey and represent the city. I see bright things in his future.”

The Wizards acquired Young and Davis at the trade deadline. When both are healthy, they can provide true two-way production and make the Wizards competitive immediately.

The starting unit of Young, Davies, Bilal Koulibaly, Kishawn George and Alex Sarr has the right mix of experience, youth, strength and agility. They can also be skilled on both ends.

The fresh start could also be good for Young and Davis, who have a combined 14 All-Star Game appearances.

Kevin Durant shares basketball knowledge with Wizards player after win

While the headlines from the Houston Rockets’ 123-118 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday focused on Trae Young’s bizarre “zero-second” ejection, the real story for basketball purists happened after the final buzzer. Kevin Durant, despite a grueling 37 minutes, stayed on the field at Capital One Arena to mentor one of the league’s newest faces.

Durant was seen pulling Wizards rookie Keyshawn George aside for a lengthy conversation after the game. The 14-time All-Star appeared to be giving the 22-year-old pointers about his positioning and shot selection, demonstrating once again that he is truly a student of the game who never misses an opportunity to coach the next generation.

On the court, Durant was his usual efficient self. “Slim Reaper” finished the night with 30 points and 7 rebounds. He led a Rockets attack that benefited a Wizards team that was clearly upset by the early-game scuffle between Jameer Watkins and Tari Eason. While Alpern Sengun dominated on the interior with 32 points and 13 rebounds, Durant provided a steady veteran hand that kept Houston in control in the second half.

For George, the mid-court readout was probably the highlight of a tough night for the Wizards. The rookie finished with 16 points and two assists in 22 minutes of action, struggling against Houston’s length at times. Getting a private masterclass from one of the greatest scorers in NBA history is a rare perk of the job, and it’s a testament to Durant’s enduring love for the game.

The Wizards will need George to apply that knowledge quickly. Washington continues to slide toward the bottom of the Eastern Conference, with the Rockets improving to 38–22. They’ll look to bounce back on Thursday against the Utah Jazz, hopefully with Trae Young actually on the floor this time.

Houston Rapper Hits Kevin Durant With ‘Robin’ Never ‘Batman’ Take Down

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant is unquestionably a future first ballot Hall of Famer and he is definitely in the discussion as to who is the best scorer to ever play for the NBA. Durant’s legacy is secure; He has two championships to his name, has won two Finals MVPs, and he was a regular season MVP in 2014.

However, Durant’s investigation makes sense. He gave up some legacy points by joining the Golden State Warriors (where he won a title), and he has yet to blossom into the undisputed best player on any team. He came close a few times with the Oklahoma City Thunder but pulled the plug just as OKC was reaching its peak with the Durant-Russell Westbrook duo.

Now, many are convinced Durant can’t hack it as “the man” — Houston-based rapper Killa Kylan said in a guest appearance on the Road Trippin’ Show’s Perk Unplugged segment that the Rockets star serves as a competing team’s “Robin,” not “Batman.”

“I’m going to say this, and I’m going to say it looking into the camera. Easy Money, I rock with you my boy, but you’re the best Robin to ever play basketball. You’re not Batman. That’s not Batman,” said Killa Kylon.

“He’s good for scoring, no doubt about that. He can pick off the son of a b***h and perform well, but when you need that team leadership and when you need that nucleus to be Batman, he’s not going to be Bruce Wayne.”

The Rockets’ Kevin Durant remains one of the most polarizing stars of all time

No one can ever dispute the greatness of Durant. But some people feel as if he has betrayed the game by joining the Warriors, and he has lagged behind in every successful stop. With the Brooklyn Nets, he could only reach the second round. His Phoenix Suns career ended badly. And with the Rockets, according to the rapper, he’s still not the “Batman” the team needs.

“I’m going to tell you this, he’s Nightwing. Nightwing was the best motherf**king version of Robin ever. He was ultimately a superhero of the caliber of Batman, but he always lived in the shadows. Wherever he went, he was never a bus driver,” Killa Kylan said.

Kevin Durant, Tee Higgins swap jerseys after Houston-Heat clash

The Miami Heat always win, and that proved to be the story once again at the Kasia Center against the Houston Rockets, where they emerged 115-105 winners despite a strong performance from Kevin Durant, who finished with 32 points and eight assists on 12-20 overall shooting. The Heat came back with a strong finish in the second quarter, 19–24, and scored 30–22 in the final to eventually win easily.

After the game, Durant was seen handing his signed jersey to none other than Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, who was among the thousands in attendance at the matchup. According to a post on X by ClutchPoints, the two were seen talking and dancing after the game, with Durant taking his time to sign the jersey he was wearing. Higgins returned the favor with his own signed Bengals jersey, with his number 5 on the back.

Regardless, the win snapped a two-game losing streak for Miami, moving them to 32–29 for the season and 8th in the Eastern Conference. Bam Adebayo was the highlight of the game, finishing with a team-high 24 points and 11 rebounds. Adebayo shot an efficient 9-of-17 from the field, spread the floor by hitting 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and finished with a team-best +16 plus/minus rating.

Rookie big man Kel’El Ware had a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds off the bench. Pelle Larsson scored 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, while Tyler Herro added 18 points on 8 of 12 shooting.

Jaime Jacquez Jr. scored 14 points as the Heat shot 50% from the field and 35.5% from beyond the arc, while the Rockets shot a poor 43.2% from the field and 25% from three-point territory.
Despite the loss, Kevin Durant was arguably the best player on the court.

Along with 32 points and eight assists, KD also had six rebounds, while he shot a perfect 12-of-20 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the foul line. The Rockets suffered from their poor shooting all night and never threatened to take control in the final quarter.

They will now take on the Washington Wizards in hopes of getting back to winning ways. The Heat will next host the Brooklyn Nets.

What Tyler Herro ‘liked’ about the Kevin Durant matchup

MIAMI – As Miami Heat star Tyler Herro had a big role in their 115-105 win over the Houston Rockets, he will bring a jolt of energy to the game, in addition to making shots and being a playmaker. The exchange of words between Heat guard Herro and Rockets star Kevin Durant got heated when they both talked after the game about what happened.

In Miami’s win, Herro would be reinserted into the starting lineup after playing the final four off the bench as he was coming off a 15-game absence due to a rib injury. With Norman Powell out and being labeled “week-to-week” with a groin sprain, Herro will fill the void, and bring instant energy as both he and Durant barked at each other in the first quarter.

It got to the point where, after a timeout, Durant and Herro would exchange more words, to the point where Durant had to be stopped, with both receiving technical fouls. The intensity would continue throughout the game, with the two talking to each other, but it would be contagious as the outing was physical.

By the end of the game, Herro and Durant hugged each other in a show of respect, as the guard told ClutchPoints after the game that it was just “competition at the end of the day.” Herro will say Durant defended himself.

“He was saying, ‘I couldn’t defend,’ then I said something to him. But, we’re competing. And at the end of the day, you want to play with the best players in the world and compete like that. That’s what I live for, I love competing,” Herro said after recording 18 points on eight of 12 shooting from the field and two of four from deep.

ClutchPoints will ask what Herro said in response to Durant’s comment:

“Ask Kevin,” Herro said.

With the Heat growing increasingly frustrated after two consecutive disappointing results, with even captain Bam Adebayo questioning the team’s effort level, Saturday was a huge step in the right direction. As for Herro, he would even say that he wanted to bring an “edge” to Miami.

“No crazy, I know the Cavs a little bit, just competing. I feel like as a team, we didn’t have the edge we had in Milwaukee or Philly, so I was trying to bring a little edge to it,” Herro said.

“I mean, we won, the team responded,” Herro continued. “So we were down 14-4 at that point, just being able to get some fire going. I feel like we’re at our best when we have guys that are on edge.”

Durant echoed Herro’s similar sentiments, saying “those words are just words” and the respect between him and the Heat star goes both ways via a video of Brady Hawk, as evidenced by the embrace at the end of the game.

For Adebayo, “It’s just competition.”

“That’s what you want,” Adebayo said after recording 24 points and 11 rebounds. “I mean, that’s what happens when we play pickup. You don’t see it all. You know, it brings out the best in everybody. When you have those type of matchups, you have that type of competitor on the court, that makes for a great game of basketball, and you want to see it that way. You want guys to go at each other and then obviously, the best guy wins, or the best team wins.”

At any rate, this was a big win for Miami as the team is 32-29, leaving them in eighth place in the East as their next two games come against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday and Thursday.

Watch Kevin Durant, Tyler Herro exchange words in heated moment

When Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets flew to South Beach for an afternoon showdown against the Miami Heat, fans knew they were in for a show.

Sure, the Heat are in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference, sitting as the eighth seed with a 31-29 record, but Erik Spoelstra teams are always a fierce player, especially at home, where they have a 17-11 record so far in 2025-26. With the Rockets working hard to keep their third seed in the highly contested Western Conference, getting a win in Miami seemed important as the season came to a close.

And not surprisingly, when the rubber hit the hardwood, that consciousness veered into the realm of technical fouls, after a war of words on the court resulted in both Tyler Herro and Durant getting separated.

While players never want to commit technical fouls, especially during timeouts, his interaction with Herro was nothing more than a minor hindrance in the way of KD getting his work done for KD. The future Hall of Famer led all scorers with 14 points in just 19 minutes, while putting up the best plus-minus of any player in the game at +17. The Durant Rockets outscored the Heat 24–19 in the second quarter and entered the half with a one-point lead at 52–51.

Will the Rockets win in Miami? Only time will tell, but with 24 minutes left to play at the time of publication, things are likely to get even more heated in South Beach before the final buzzer.

Rockets news: Kevin Durant criticizes ‘bulls**t’ narrative surrounding USA vs. Europe basketball

Just days before the All-Star break earlier this month, Kevin Durant took aim at American-born basketball players for not attempting during the NBA All-Star Game.

“You have to ask the European and world teams if they’re going to compete,” Durant said. “If you look at Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic right now, let’s go back and see what they do in the All-Star Game. Is that competition? So, we haven’t questioned what they’re doing. But we’re going to question the old heads and the Americans.”

The comments sparked a strong conversation, which was an excuse for both American teams to beat Team World in the new All-Star Game format. Now, he’s continuing his campaign against rhetoric he considers unfair to American players and a subtext that isn’t often talked about in the ESPN report about their playing in the 2028 Olympics.

“That’s a lot of bull—with it. I can read between the lines on that. It’s a shot at black Americans. We’re controlling the game. They’re tired of us controlling the game.

He added, “’France is coming for you.’ Really? We beat up those boys.”

Durant is right, as the 2024 version of Team USA defeated the Victor Wembanyama-led French national team at the Olympics. Team USA has won a gold medal in every Summer Olympics since a shocking bronze medal in the 2004 Olympics.

Durant also said he is not ruling out playing in the LA Olympics in the summer of 2028, indicating that the media has planted a narrative that he and Steph Curry will not throw their hat in the ring.

“You guys, the media, have anticipated this,” Durant recently told ESPN. “Where did that narrative, the last dance thing, come from? I didn’t say I wasn’t playing. LeBron said he wasn’t playing. You didn’t hear that from me or Steph.”

Imagn Images

(Kyle Terada)-Imagn Images

(Kyle Terada)-Imagn Images

Watch Kevin Durant connect with Patrick Ewing ahead of Knicks clash

Although he’s still one of the best pure scorers in the game today, Kevin Durant understands he doesn’t have much time left in the NBA. He would soon become a great player who would be forced to experience the game away from the hardwood. When a player enters the final stages of his career, he gets better appreciation from those who came before him. The Houston Rockets superstar got a chance to chat with one such person ahead of Saturday’s showdown with the New York Knicks.

Durant hugs Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing inside Madison Square Garden. Ewing rose to stardom in those parts by spending four years at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in the 1980s before becoming head coach of the Hoyas in the late 2010s.

Kevin Durant ties Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record in win against Hornets

The Houston Rockets bounced back from the All-Star break with a 105-101 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, led by a historic performance from Kevin Durant. Durant scored 35 points in 36 minutes, going 14 of 20 (70%) from the field, 2 of 4 from three-point range, and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line. He combined this with eight rebounds, four assists, three blocks and one steal while committing only one turnover.

The 35-point outing was the 429th 30-point game of Durant’s career, tying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for sixth in NBA history. He now sits fifth on the all-time list, two behind Kobe Bryant. It was Durant’s highest scoring performance in more than a month and followed a 31-point effort against Charlotte on February 5. Through 51 games this season, the 37-year-old has averaged 26.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 51% from the field and 40.4% from three.

Houston shot 48.8% overall, but struggled from deep, finishing 9 of 32 (28.1%). The Rockets compensated by outscoring Charlotte 48-32 in the paint and shooting 12-of-13 (92.3%) at the line. He also forced 16 turnovers (23 per one report) and recorded 15 steals and eight blocks, leading to defensive pressure that resulted in 16 fast-break points. Houston finished with 11 turnovers compared to the Hornets’ 16 turnovers, which was a significant factor in the four-point game.

Jabari Smith Jr. recorded 15 points on 6 of 9 shooting and 2 of 3 shooting from three, seven rebounds, one block and one steal. Alpern Sengun contributed 13 points and seven assists despite making 6 of 16 shots, while Reed Shepard also scored 13 points. The Rockets overcame an 11-point deficit in the first half to lead 95–84 with five minutes remaining.

For Charlotte, Grant Williams led the way with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting (4-5 from three). Brandon Miller scored 17 but shot 1 of 12 from deep and 5 of 22 overall for the lead. LaMelo Ball, playing a day after a car accident, finished with 11 points, seven assists and seven rebounds. Rookie Kon Knueppel scored 15 points and hit several late threes, but Durant closed out the game with 10 fourth-quarter points, including two free throws with 3.2 seconds remaining.

The win improved Houston to 34–20 and placed them in fourth place in the Western Conference, one game ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers and one game behind the Denver Nuggets. The Hornets entered the break winning 11 of 12, remaining in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with a 26–30 record, one game behind the Atlanta Hawks.

The Rockets next take the field to face the New York Knicks on Saturday, while Charlotte will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

Kevin Durant silences Hornets crowd with clutch dagger

The Houston Rockets opened the second half of the season with a win by defeating the Charlotte Hornets 105-101 courtesy of Kevin Durant’s heroics at the Spectrum Center on Thursday.

The Rockets were leading by three points, 101–98, with just 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter, needing a stoppage to give the Hornets a chance to steal the victory.

But Durant said: No. With the shot clock expiring, the veteran forward sank a dagger jumper over two defenders. seal victory.

Kevin Durant reportedly expressed disappointment in private messages

Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant made headlines again after fans claimed he was behind a burner account that vandalized his former and current teammates in a group chat.

Although this is probably untrue – and difficult to prove – Durant has a history of using a separate account to defend himself from critics on social media.

Some believe that the two-time Finals MVP is too sensitive, especially when it comes to his legacy, even if he is already a contender for the Hall of Fame in the future.

Raheem Palmer of The Ringer revealed that Durant sent him a private message two years ago to discuss his impact on the NBA and various other topics.

“KD slid into my DMs over Memorial Day weekend two years ago and argued with me for hours about his legacy, how Bill Simmons, Stephen A. Smith and Zach Lowe hated him, the media lying, who was better than Steph Curry, my view of him, the (Golden State) Warriors, and many other things,” Palmer wrote on X.

“I would never leak our conversations because it’s weird for me, but I respect how much he cares about all of this.”

The 37-year-old Durant’s legacy is already secure, even if he doesn’t win another title. He has often said that he just wants to make hoops.

Although he’s notorious for clapping back at critics, the 16-time All-Star explained that he’s just responding to their energy, adding that he enjoys interacting with fans.

“He’s human, and he’s no more capable than the rest of us of being influenced by the buzz around him, despite being rich and famous,” Palmer said.

Durant averaged 25.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists in his first season with the Rockets.

Kevin Durant spreads rumor of ruining teammates via burner account

After commenting on the intensity of the All-Star Game, Houston Rockets’ Kevin Durant is now facing claims that he used a SecretX (formerly Twitter) account to insult current and former teammates.

Screenshots from an account called @gethigher77, which is now private, began spreading during All-Star Weekend. There’s no concrete evidence that Durant runs the account, but that hasn’t stopped people from debating it online.

The account reportedly criticized Houston players Jabari Smith Jr. and Alperen Sengun, claiming Sengun struggled with shooting and defense and questioning Smith’s scoring and defensive ability.

The claims also reveal that Durant criticized former teammates Devin Booker and Kyrie Irving. Booker was reportedly called a “dictator” who took all the credit for wins, while Irving was said to behave as if Durant had something to do with it.

None of these claims have been proven. Durant has faced burner account rumors before, though he often responds openly from his main account, leading to some suspicion that he is behind it.

The Rockets signed Durant to a $90 million extension through October 2025 to lead their young roster toward a championship. Now, it’s hard to ignore concerns about trust in the locker room.

Durant has been associated with anonymous accounts for nearly a decade. In September 2017, while with the Golden State Warriors, he accidentally posted in the third person from his verified account.

The tweet defended his move to the Oklahoma City Thunder and criticized former coach Billy Donovan and teammate Russell Westbrook. This was obviously for the burner account.

“He didn’t like the organization or playing for Billy Donovan. Their roster wasn’t that good, it was just him and Russ,” the tweet said, according to the report.

In October, Durant appeared on The Pivot Podcast and spoke candidly about his social media use. He described posting online as a “quick release” for emotions he did not want to suppress.

Durant said, “I don’t want to create so much hatred towards the media or the fans. So I just say what I feel right now.”

This explanation may seem reasonable when it comes to responding to anonymous critics online. However, it becomes more complicated if the comments are directed at teammates with whom he shares the locker room.

Kevin Durant drops All-Star Game ‘intensity’ take that will capture fans’ attention

Houston Rockets veteran Kevin Durant does not agree with the notion that the NBA’s All-Star Game was more intense than it is in today’s era. Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green criticized the new format of the All-Star Game, as the association attempts to make its signature event more competitive after weak reactions in recent years.

As for Durant, he does not agree with the story of how competitive the All-Star Game was for the NBA during the 1990s and 2000s, and He explained the reason Saturday during All-Star media day.

“I’m watching the All-Star Game and the older generation is talking about the intensity of it,” Durant said. “I don’t know if I saw it or not, you know?”

“It’s going to start with the starters, whoever gets there first,” Leonard said. “For me, personally, we need to get back to the way it was, and if guys are going to play hard, they’ll play hard. I think it will be competitive this year. I don’t know what the format is like. But hopefully, guys are competing. They usually do, but it’s also an All-Star Game.”

(Ausar Thompson)

(Kevin Durant)
