Indianapolis Colts labeled best fit for ‘unique’ former Pro Bowler

Last year, the Indianapolis Colts gave their fans reason to celebrate, both with a 7-1 start and by acquiring an NFL superstar in Sauce Gardner. Unfortunately, it all collapsed when breakout star quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a knee injury. The Colts went 1-8 the rest of the trip, so much so that they turned to 44-year-old Philip Rivers in desperate times.

Jones is still recovering from his concussion, but eventually, the Colts will be back at full strength. We saw how capable Shane Steichen’s offense was last season, and the Colts spent a lot of money keeping their group intact, retaining Jones and receiver Alec Pierce in free agency. Still, there might be a way to further weaponize the offense in Indianapolis.

Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen said the Colts are the “best team fit” for former All-Pro and Pro Bowler, free agent receiver Deebo Samuel.

“The Colts added veteran receiver Nick Westbrook-Ikhin this offseason, but Samuel will bring a unique skill set to coach Shane Steichen’s offense to complement Alec Pierce and slot man Josh Downs. Steichen can create a long runway for Samuel to add speed on crossers, while producing touches on screens and fly sweeps. He caught 72 passes last season in Washington. Signing Samuel would also give quarterback Daniel Jones another catch-and-run target. Samuel and Warren both ranked in the top 15 yards after the catch last season.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen on Deebo Samuel

The 30-year-old Samuel spent last season with the Commanders, where he appeared in 16 games and recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns. Still, the Commanders didn’t utilize him as much as a rusher, where Samuel had only 17 rush attempts for 75 yards and one touchdown, both rushing totals his lowest since 2020.

Samuel’s last season with over 1,000 all-purpose yards came in 2023, yet he has only had one season with fewer than 800 yards from scrimmage. This could make him an ideal complementary weapon to Warren, Pierce, Downs and Westbrook-Ikhin.

Los Angeles Rams seen as ‘best team fit’ for Pro Bowl receiver

The Los Angeles Rams were a popular choice to select a wide receiver or tight end in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Puka Nacua and Davante Adams are both in the final year of their contracts, making it worthwhile for the Rams to consider the future of the position.

While Nacua is a franchise cornerstone and certainly a part of the Rams’ future plans after the 2026 season ends, Adams will turn 34 next season. Five receivers were selected among the 32 picks of the first round, but the Rams did not contribute to those numbers, instead making the surprise selection of quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th pick.

In fact, the Rams didn’t address the receiver room until the sixth round of the draft. Given that this is a team that is ready to win now, it’s a little surprising they didn’t bring in someone who had more potential to make an immediate impact.

However, everyone recognizes the Rams as a potential Super Bowl contender, which makes them an attractive landing spot for the best receivers still available in free agency.

Mandatory Credit: Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen named the Rams as the “best team fit” for four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs.

“The Ravens could be a fit for Diggs, but I really like them in L.A. with Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. The Rams attempted 430 passes out of 11 personnel (three wide receivers) last season, which was ninth-most in the league, and Diggs is a natural separator who can line up inside or outside. Plus, he has the ability to work in the middle of the field on in-breaking concepts. Toughness is a key element of coach Sean McVay’s offense. That will be a handy boost for quarterback Matthew Stafford.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen is the best fit for Stefon Diggs

Diggs’ last Pro Bowl season came in 2023, but the Rams aren’t asking him to come in and be a superhero next to Nacua and Adams. Reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford just needs a reliable third weapon that can win his 1-on-1 battles, and even at age 32, Diggs has shown he can get the job done.

Last season, Diggs recorded 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while serving as the No. 1 target for Drake Mays during the New England Patriots’ Super Bowl run. He won’t get as many opportunities in Los Angeles, but signing with the Rams and accepting a reduced role could give Diggs his best chance yet to win a Super Bowl.

Green Bay Packers named top fit for top veteran in NFL free agency

The Green Bay Packers were relatively quiet in NFL free agency this offseason, with general manager Brian Gutekunst looking to preserve compensatory selections in the 2027 NFL Draft. Now that that is no longer a factor, the team is being linked to a potential role player who is still available.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen reports the Packers are the best fit for free-agent edge rusher AJ Epenesa.

“The Packers lost rotational edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare to the Jets in free agency, so the team could add his replacement in Epenesa. He’s a long, powerful mover who can break the edge with his 6-foot-6, 260-pound frame. He can also make disruptive plays under new coordinator Jonathan Gannon, as he recorded 24.5 sacks and four interceptions in six seasons with the Bills. Are.”

Matt Burrows on AJ Epense as fit for Green Bay Packers

RELATED: Contract extensions planned for 4 Green Bay Packers players

Once the 2026 NFL Draft concludes, free-agent signings have no impact on the compensation formula for the 2027 NFL Draft. That’s why Green Bay wasted little time in signing veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

There are still obvious areas for improvement on the Packers’ roster. Green Bay could use an in-line blocking tight end to pair with Tucker Craft, depth at running back is an issue due to Marshon Lloyd’s durability issues, and depth at nose tackle is still needed.

Connected: Green Bay Packers players who may be out in 2026

6-foot-6 edge rusher Epenesa has been a rotational player for most of his career. Last season, he played 438 snaps for the Buffalo Bills, and he played less than 50 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in five of his six seasons in the NFL.

In 2025, Epenesa recorded 12 pressures, 9 quarterback hits and 17 solo tackles with 4 pass deflections, 2.5 sacks and 2 interceptions in 16 games. Epenesa, who turns 28 in September, earned a 48.6 PFF run-blocking grade along with a 63.5 pass-rushing grade in 2025.

RELATED: Green Bay Packers who could be on the roster bubble in 2026

With All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons likely to miss the first four games of the season recovering from ACL surgery, pass-rushing depth is essential. Signing Epenesa would allow Packers defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to rotate him with Carl Brooks, Lucas Van Ness, Brenton Cox Jr. and Barry Sorrell.

Realistically, any veteran Green Bay signs in NFL free agency at this point will be landing a one-year contract. Beyond Epenesa, there are also options like Derek Barnett, Dante Fowler Jr., Brandon Graham, and Haason Redick.

San Francisco 49ers named ‘best team fit’ for Pro Bowl upgrade

The San Francisco 49ers returned last season after missing the playoffs in 2024. Their resurgence now leads many to believe that coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have once again assembled a Super Bowl contender.

Yet, as we have seen time and time again, injuries can be a major factor in the overall success and/or failure of a team. At the same time, there are still some areas, like the interior offensive line, that have room for improvement.

NFL trade rumors: Kevin Zeitler
Mandatory Credit: Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Recently, ESPN’s Matt Bowen suggested that the 49ers are the “best team fit” for unsigned free agent offensive guard Kevin Zeitler. The 36-year-old one-time Pro Bowler spent last season with the Tennessee Titans, where he started 16 games. Also, last year’s starting left guard Spencer Burford has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.

“The Giants has a physical interior presence, using his strength to displace defensive tackles. And he has the movement ability to draw gap schemes, which fits into Kyle Shanahan’s system. Zeitler also utilizes his strong base at safety, ranking 37th out of 65 qualifying guards in pass block win rate (92.4%) last season. He is an upgrade to the interior of San Francisco’s O-line. Left guard Spencer Burford was released to the Raiders in free agency.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen on Kevin Zeitler

Whether the 49ers still feel like Zeitler has something left in the tank remains to be seen. He has played for three different teams over the past three seasons, but he earned his only Pro Bowl nomination in 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens.

If signed, the 49ers will soon have the NFL’s oldest starting offensive tackle in 38-year-old Trent Williams and oldest starting offensive guard in Zeitler. Still, they will certainly not be short on experience, having each made more than 200 starts.

How Jon Spytek’s 4 draft picks fit into Clint Kubiak’s defense

During the NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders focused heavily on their secondary. They needed it.

Last season, only Tennessee and Miami allowed opponent quarterbacks to complete passes at a higher clip than the Raiders, who tied Dallas for the third-highest opponent completion percentage in the league.

General manager Jon Spityek used four of the team’s 10 picks at cornerback and safety. Las Vegas drafted Arizona safeties Traydon Stukes and Dalton Johnson in the second and fifth rounds. The team added cornerbacks Jermod McCoy and Hezekiah Maas on day three.

“We definitely needed to add competition to the defensive back room,” Clint Kubiak said. “It’s very rare to get two safeties on the same team playing together. It’s exciting. Get two new corners. That was an area on defense we needed to address.”

The question now is how four rookies fit into a defensive rotation that has to handle some of the game’s best pass catchers.

Traydon Stookes highlights the versatility of all four players

Treydan Stukes can rotate at nickelback and safety. At Arizona, he defended in man and zone, played the line of scrimmage and back end, and graded out at 90.1 overall last season – sixth best among cornerbacks nationally.

He allowed a 34.4 passer rating when targeted.

“I’m going to learn both (positions) and wherever I can fit in best and help the team win some games, that’s what I’m going to do,” Stukes said during rookie minicamp.

The Raiders traded down two spots and still took advantage of first-round talent to send them to the second round. Four interceptions and six pass breakups last year show why this matters.

Defensive coordinator Rob Leonard wants the interception. Stukes gives him a ballhawk in the middle of the field.

Dalton Johnson was selected at No. 150 due to his versatility. He can play free safety, strong safety, nickelback and the slot. The Day 3 pick has a value of four positions.

Johnson totaled 277 tackles in his final three seasons in Tucson. He’ll learn behind veterans Jeremy Chinn and Isaiah Pola-Mao, who played 96% and 89% of defensive snaps last season – both clearing or approaching 1,000 snaps.

Jermod McCoy went from a potential first-round pick to the first pick on Day 3. Injury history ruled him out.

He missed all of 2025 due to a torn ACL at Tennessee. Reports surfaced before the draft that some teams believed a second surgery was imminent due to degenerative concerns surrounding a bone plug in the same knee. The Raiders made a one-spot deal to take him anyway.

“Confidence wasn’t an issue,” said vice president of player personnel Brandon Hunt. “We felt good about where we took him. It was an opportunity to get value. This was probably the best corner in the draft, and we feel like we have great people and a great process to make sure we get the best out of this player.”

Despite the medical report, McCoy worked out of rookie minicamp. At Tennessee in 2024, after transferring from Oregon State, he posted four interceptions and nine pass breakups and earned All-American honors. The next three months will show the attackers what they really have.

Maas and McCoy join veteran cornerback room

If Stukes is the ballhawk in the middle, Hezekiah Maas is the ballhawk on the outside.

Masses led the nation with 18 passes defensed last season. He finished seventh with five interceptions and earned AP Second Team All-American honors. At over six feet tall, he reads route concepts well on the field.

The veteran room he and McCoy step into is solid. Teron Johnson comes to Buffalo with eight seasons of double-digit games, 48 pass deflections (seven or more in four consecutive years from 2020-23), 98 tackles and AP All-Pro Second Team honors on his resume. Eric Stokes played more than 90% of the defensive snaps for the Raiders last season – that group included Pola-Mao and Devin White – and added five pass deflections and 53 tackles.

You have two rooms led by veterans and four rookies, which gives the Raiders a lot to be excited about.

As a result, both defensive back rooms have an opportunity to turn their great draft picks into a top unit by combining them with their veterans. The next three months of preparation before the season will tell how far they come along.

New York Jets insider reveals ‘best fit’ for No. 2 pick

The New York Jets have a big decision to make with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. With quarterback Fernando Mendoza widely expected to be selected first by the Las Vegas Raiders, the Jets should already have a strong idea of who they will select with their second pick.

With no other obvious first-round prospects worthy of a top-10 pick, the Jets are expected to focus on the best player available. For many draft experts, that player is Ohio State linebacker/pass-rusher Arvel Reese.

According to ESPN’s Jets insider Rich Cimini, Reese is the “best fit” for the team at No. 2. Thanks to Reese’s positional versatility and overall upside, it’s on par with many others.

“General manager Darren Maugi said he hasn’t identified that player yet. After listening to Glenn, then gathering some pieces at the NFL spring meetings in Phoenix, it seems like Ohio State’s Arvel Reese is the best fit.”

ESPN’s Rich Cimini on the New York Jets/Arvel Reese

If the Jets are looking for an edge rusher, there are several options at No. 2. Possible options could include Reese, Texas Tech’s David Bailey, or Miami (FL)’s Reuben Benn Jr., who has drawn criticism for having arms shorter than 31 inches.

It doesn’t matter if the Jets are deciding between a pass-rusher at No. 2. It may just be a matter of deciding which one they like best. With less than three weeks left to make a decision, the Jets should be close to finalizing their decision.

millwall

Millwall’s Casper De Nore says he would be ready to face both Middlesbrough and Norwich City.

Alex Neal’s side travel to the Riverside Stadium to play Middlesbrough on Friday and then host Norwich City at The Den next Monday.

The Belgian last made an appearance for Millwall in a 2–0 Championship win over Preston North End in February. He even set up the opener for Ryan Leonard in the 29th minute.

De Nore has since been sidelined with a groin injury. However, he has now regained full fitness and will be available for selection for tomorrow’s clash against Middlesbrough.

Thursday edition of Importance of Limburg Have published a joint interview with the Millwall player and Sint-Truidense VV’s Robert-Jan Vanwessemel.

The 29-year-old took advantage of the international break to visit his home country. This gave the Belgian newspaper the opportunity to speak face-to-face with him and VanWessemel.

During the discussion, the defensive midfielder talked about his recent injury and his current situation. He has already missed 17 Champions matches this season due to injuries.

Middlesbrough and Norwich City matchup is important

Detroit Lions name ‘dream fit’ for prospect with ‘tricky NFL projection’

After some key departures, the Detroit Lions have some glaring needs ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. Finding another starting-caliber offensive tackle is certainly one of them, even with Penei Sewell switching from right to left tackle. Another potential need involves strengthening the team’s running back room after trading David Montgomery to the Texans.

While some will argue that the arrival of free agent signee Isiah Pacheco makes up for the loss of Montgomery, the Lions love to run the football, and they want more than two reliable backs. Another solution could come in the NFL Draft, where the Lions have nine selections.

Recently, ESPN’s NFL analyst Ben Solak suggested that Notre Dame backup RB Jadarion Price is a “dream fit” for the Lions, where he would play second fiddle to Jahmir Gibbs, just like he did with the Fighting Irish behind star RB Jeremiah Love.

“But teams that already have a receiving back that they want to avoid over 300 carries over the course of a season should prioritize Price. He would be a great running mate for Bucky Irving in Tampa Bay or Tony Pollard in Tennessee, but the dream landing spot is with Jahmir Gibbs in Detroit. Price, who ran for 674 yards and 11 touchdowns last season Thee is a reliable singles and doubles hitter, and pairing him with a home run threat like Gibbs will bring out the best in him.

ESPN’s Ben Solak on Jadarion Price/Detroit Lions

The Lions clearly won’t spend the 17th overall pick on a running back this year. However, Price could be their next pick, at No. 50 overall. But then again, the Lions probably won’t want to take on another major challenge to return when they’ve already invested heavily in keeping Gibbs as their starter for the foreseeable future.

Solak calls Price a “difficult projection” because he is not known as a strong pass-blocker or pass-catcher, meaning his best asset is as a rusher.

Price may not be available by the time the Lions are on the clock with the 118th overall pick, but there’s no doubt he could be a difference-maker in Detroit, or wherever he lands.

“I hope he comes back fit” – Nuno points fingers at West Ham player tonight

West Ham United will spend tonight keeping a close eye on Mateus Fernandes, with Nuno Espirito Santo making it clear he simply wants the midfielder back fit.

The Hammers face Leeds United in the FA Cup on Sunday. Therefore, this international break carries obvious risks for the club. Speaking in Portugal, Nuno did not hide that concern, even if he expressed it with humor.

“I just hope he comes back fit [laughs]Because we have an important game on Sunday,” He said during the ANTF Coaches Forum, as relayed cnn.

That line might have raised a smile. However, it also underlined how important it is Matthew Fernandes Has become for West Ham in recent weeks.

Nuno balances pride and concern

Nuno Espirito Santo then made sure to praise the player in detail, showing how highly he rates the 21-year-old.

“I’m very, very happy for him. I think he deserves it. He’s had a great season.”

The West Ham manager did not stop there. He expanded on why Matías has earned his place in Portugal.

“He works very hard, he has a lot of talent, he is very disciplined and hopefully he can help the national team.”

Those comments reflect the role Mateus Fernandes now plays at the London Stadium. He is no longer an option for the team. Instead, he has become a regular part of Nuno’s plans. And he likes it.

according to transfer marketThe midfielder has played 29 Premier League matches this season. He has scored three goals and played over 2,400 league minutes. Those numbers point to continued confidence from the manager.

Additionally, his performances have also attracted attention in Portugal. Reports there describe him as increasingly influential in both the club and national systems.

The focus remains strong on West Ham

Mateus Fernandes may be enjoying his moment on the international stage. Still, Nuno Espirito Santo made it clear where his focus lay.

“Yesterday… We haven’t talked for a long time, but for me it’s day by day.” he explained.

“I’m traveling right now and tomorrow I have to train to prepare for the FA Cup. That’s my priority.”

This sums up the situation at West Ham. The club can appreciate the progress of Mateus Fernandes. Plus, he needs to be available and ready for a major domestic match.

The midfielder’s contract reportedly runs until 2030, giving the Hammers long-term security. However, short-term anxiety is much simpler.

West Ham want Matias Fernandes to return from international duty without any problems. Nuno Espirito Santo has already said it out loud.

Sources close to the Arsenal player say he will be fit soon – surgery still a cause for concern

mikel merino

Arsenal’s Mikel Merino hopes to regain fitness soon and make a World Cup berth with Spain.

The midfielder last made an appearance in Arsenal’s 3-2 Premier League defeat against Manchester United in January. He scored his team’s second goal at the Emirates.

Egoism over signing Tottenham player – even discussing how he would fit in

randall cole muani

Juventus pushed hard to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Tottenham in January. Their pursuit of a striker will intensify in the summer transfer window.

The Frenchman found the net against Atletico Madrid this week and also scored a Premier League goal against Arsenal in Igor Tudor’s first game as manager.

He shone under the Croatian’s leadership at Juventus, helping them qualify for the Champions League last season.

There is now growing confidence in Turin about the possibility of bringing the Tottenham player to Juve. They have reached the point where they are imagining line-ups involving the striker.

Ravanelli removed name of Tottenham player

Talks to former Juventus icon Fabrizio Ravanelli gazzetta dello sport In an interview today about the club’s offensive situation.

Stating his belief that Juve lacked cold-blooded finishers in front of goal, he said: “In Italy, he can do very well and he has shown it, his 15-20 goals this season are guaranteed.

“He is fast, with sprinting and dribbling, I can see him doing well. If you think about Kolo Muani-Osimhen, Kolo Muani-Thuram or Thuram-Osimhen, those are pairings that Juventus fans would love.”

The report also talks about the possibility of Kolo-Muani and Dusan Vlahovic playing together. He did that in the second half of last season and Tudor did a good job of him/

There also appears to be confidence that they can reunify, opening the possibility for the Serbians to opt out of the campaign.

The deal seems like a blind hope

Tottenham’s Randal Kolo Muani is ready for France

Italian press has Continuous It seemed as if relations between Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain had improved over the past year. The two clubs were involved in a public dispute after Tottenham spoiled the Bianconeri’s plans for the summer.

That’s why Gazzetta seems way ahead of the curve and is simply assuming a deal will be reached.

Tottenham may not have much to say but Kolo Muani has shown he is good enough to play for a major club. Even at Spurs, he has shown glimpses of his quality in crunch time. Juve are right to make a move for him but the deal is likely to be complicated.

Alex Caruso explains why Jared McCann is a better fit for OKC than the 76ers

Oklahoma City Thunder veteran Alex Caruso addressed Jared McCann’s impact in his first 12 games with his new team, and explained why he is a better fit for the defending champions than the Philadelphia 76ers. Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault discusses what he has learned about McCann during his first dozen games.

Caruso gave the most credit to the Thunder front office, trade for McCain is ahead of this year’s deadline, he said, according to The Young Man and the Three podcast.

“For us, we do what we do as players, but the front office, as far as the fit, that’s probably the biggest compliment they can give me,” Caruso said. “The way Jared plays is like a mini I-Joe, like Isaiah Joe Light, not like the same player, but coming from the same movements, but the way they’re able to use their skill sets to shoot and move.”

Alex Caruso used an example from the Thunder’s 121–113 win against the Cleveland Cavs, where McCann drove to the rim, passed the ball to Joe before shifting to the corner for a deep three. For Caruso, it’s that style of play if the 76ers didn’t run their offense through McCann.

“I don’t think Philly played that way,” Caruso said. “I think they’re a lot more traditional because of Joel [Emiid]And, of course, Tyrese [Maxey] Very much on the ball. But for us, it is like freedom of movement. An open man is a right man. I think it benefits his game.”

McCain is averaging 11.8 points on 41.5% shooting, including 39.5% from deep, and 2.2 rebounds per game with the Thunder.

The apparent departure of 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey to the Thunder’s Jared McCann ended the second-year guard’s tenure, and marked a new start with the defending champions. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault discussed McCann’s fitness after practice on Friday and told reporters how he has learned about his game so far.

“His shooting ability. He’s a guy you have to make runs off the line, which opens up some of those drives. I didn’t know his game well, especially that part of his game — those mid-range games show his strength,” Daigneault said. “He’s going downhill, and he’s able to absorb contact and rise up and shoot a balanced rhythm shot, which is harder than it looks. He makes it look easier than it is. So, he’s done a great job.”

Daigneault and the Thunder will host the Warriors on Saturday at Paycom Center.

Buffalo Bills seen as trade fit for young Pro Bowl receiver

The Buffalo Bills often came close to a Super Bowl appearance under Sean McDermott. Unlocking Josh Allen’s elite level of performance as NFL MVP certainly helped. Yet, despite seven consecutive playoff appearances, the Bills were not able to reach the promised berth, leading to McDermott’s dismissal after nine seasons as head coach.

Now the Bills are moving forward with a new leadership group, starting with recently promoted Brandon Beane and first-year head coach Joe Brady, who was promoted from offensive coordinator. One of the top items on Buffalo’s agenda should be strengthening the team’s receiving corps, which was clearly something McDermott would love to see as well.

Recently, ESPN’s NFL analysts Dan Graziano and Ben Solak came up with a list of the best 15 players who could hit the trade block this offseason. In doing so, he named Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. as a potential trade candidate. Nevertheless, when listing teams for which Thomas could be suited, he also listed the Bills in addition to the Patriots, Steelers and Raiders.

” Selected in the first round two years ago by the previous Jaguars administration, Thomas struggled so much during his second season that the team needed to trade Jakobi Meyers at the deadline and then sign him to a long-term deal. The Jaguars also got an impressive season from Parker Washington. And while the new plan for Travis Hunter may be to focus on the cornerback position, Jacksonville still hopes he’ll make some contributions as a wide receiver.

There has been no indication that the Jaguars are planning on trading Thomas, but there are teams monitoring the situation, with the front office considering a move if the hypertalented LSU product falls far enough down the Jacksonville depth chart.

Brian Thomas on ESPN

If the Bills are willing to part with some valuable draft picks (possibly no less than a second-round pick plus change), perhaps they could pry Thomas out of Jacksonville. He appears to be an ideal fit for the receiver the Bills were looking for when they selected Keon Coleman with the 33rd overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Coleman is 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, but the 22-year-old has compiled only 67 receptions for 960 yards and 8 touchdowns in two seasons in Buffalo. Meanwhile, Thomas is 6-foot-2, 209 pounds and the 23-year-old has compiled 135 receptions for 1,989 yards and 12 touchdowns since becoming the 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jamahl Mosley says Jevon Carter is ‘perfect’ fit for Orlando

The Orlando Magic turned in a franchise-record shooting performance Thursday night, but it was veteran guard Javon Carter who received strong praise from head coach Jamahl Mosley after a 131-94 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Orlando drained 27 3-pointers in the win, setting a new franchise mark. Carter, playing in his second game since signing with the team after the trade deadline more than two weeks ago, produced his best performance in a Magic uniform. The 30-year-old finished with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds and one steal in 23 minutes off the bench. He made 5 of 8 shots from the field, 3 of 5 from 3-point range and added one free throw, leading to a team-high plus-34 rating.

Carter joined Orlando after being waived by the Chicago Bulls in early February. The Magic immediately added the veteran guard, valuing his defensive intensity and experience.

Mosley said Carter’s impact was immediate.

“He’s about the right things. He’s about winning, he’s about the team, he’s about playing the right way and you saw that as soon as he stepped on the court, the whole court got up, talking to the crowd, getting people in the right spots, making shots with confidence,” Mosley said.

“But still, he’s about all the right things. He’s about winning, he’s about toughness. He fits perfectly with what we do here with the Magic — hard-nosed defense, creating our own offense on the other end.”

Star forward Paolo Banchero, who led Orlando with 30 points, six assists, five rebounds, one steal and one block, echoed that sentiment. Banchero shot 10 of 21 from the field, 5 of 7 from beyond the arc and 5 of 5 from the free-throw line in 32 minutes.

“Just his energy — his energy, his voice, obviously his play, he’s active on defense, shot maker on offense, he tries to make the right play as a point guard,” Banchero said. “I think he fits really well into what we do… He’s a guy who has been in the league [for] She has a great attitude in a little while and is encouraging her to continue using her voice.”

Carter credited the team’s historic shooting night to unselfish play.

“Just getting down the slope, being unselfish, getting the ball out of it, being aggressive, you know what I’m saying, just taking shots out there. [and] Not really thinking about it, ignoring them. And just playing together,” Carter said.

He described the outing as the result of preparation and work.

“It was fun, I take pride in hard work, you know, hard work always pays off. That’s a motto I live by. You know it was definitely a lot of fun to be out there with the guys, really, getting back into the swing of things.”

With the win, Orlando improved to 29–25, and moved within a half game of the sixth-seeded Philadelphia 76ers (30–25) in the Eastern Conference. The Magic continue their West Coast road trip against the Phoenix Suns (32-24) on Saturday at 5:00 PM ET on NBA TV. Carter’s early impact adds another layer of depth as the playoff race heats up.

Panarin Fit

The Athletic

The Athletic ($):The Athletic
