Harbaugh disciple reveals fascinating insight on NY Giants’ potential draft strategy

A former top coordinator for John Harbaugh has revealed some fascinating insights about what his thinking will be when he enters his first NFL Draft as head coach of the New York Giants.

There is renewed excitement about the NY Giants despite a 4-13 result in the 2025 season. This is due to the inclusion of former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. Although he was fired by his previous team earlier this year, he remains one of the most respected and successful coaches in the NFL today.

One reason why he has put together such a strong resume during his 18 seasons in the league is that he has a notable impact on how the roster he coaches is constructed. That will be the case again with Big Blue, and with the start of NFL free agency this week and next month’s draft, there has been a lot of discussion about how the coach will remodel the roster with the help of general manager Joe Schoen.

Although he hasn’t made big contracts in the first week of free agency, the team has made some smart moves that position him better for next season. They are far from adding veteran talent, but April’s draft offers more great opportunities to improve the roster, including the No. 5 pick at next month’s event.

When it comes to their first pick, the team has been linked to several prospects, including Notre Dame’s Jeremiah Love and Ohio State’s Caleb Downs. It seems like the team could go in different directions with the pick five and their other selections, as they have significant needs.

NY Giants will build roster for better matchups with Eagles, Cowboys and Commanders

veteran

However, on Thursday, former Harbaugh defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale revealed some interesting information about how Harbaugh will approach his first draft pick for the NY Giants.

“Our philosophy in Baltimore was this, [but] Whenever you mention a player the first question is ‘How will he help us beat Philly?’ How will he help us beat Dallas?” he told New York Daily News Giants insider Pat Leonard.

“That’s the way John and Ozzy [Newsome] Did this for years. It’s weird where the league is going now, but it still works. “The big guys are still better than the little guys.”

So while Harbaugh and the NY Giants brain trust will try to bring in good players suited to their coaches, this suggests that better matchups for the six games the Cowboys, Commanders and Eagles play against them each year will also be a priority.

NY Giants co-owner comes under public pressure over friendship with Jeffrey Epstein

New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch, along with his sister Laurie Tisch and brother Jonathan Tisch, have requested approval to transfer their combined 23.1% ownership stake in the franchise to trusts set up for their children.

The request comes amid growing scrutiny around Steve Tisch after his name surfaced in documents released by the United States Department of Justice relating to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to an NFL memo first reported by ESPN, if the NFL’s Finance Committee signs off on the move, the Tisch siblings will effectively exit their ownership positions, transferring their entire stake in the franchise.

veteran
Danielle Parhizakaran/NorthJersey.com/USA TODAY Network

“The prior transfers to these trusts were completed pursuant to 2023 and 2024 Finance Committee approval,” the March 11 memo said, according to ESPN. “The sellers now propose to transfer their entire remaining interests, totaling 23.1% of the club, to the trusts.”

The Tisch and Mara families have jointly owned the Giants since 1991, with Steve Tisch and John Mara assuming major ownership roles in 2005. However, Tisch’s role with the franchise has come under renewed scrutiny following revelations of her 2013 email exchanges with Epstein. According to ESPN, Tisch’s name appears at least 440 times in documents related to the case.

The National Football League said last month that it was aware of the situation and would review the matter, although Commissioner Roger Goodell declined to confirm a formal investigation during Super Bowl week.

The Giants’ ownership structure has seen shake-up recently. In September, billionaire philanthropist Julia Koch purchased a minority stake in the franchise, marking another significant change in the team’s ownership group.

Predicting where the New York Giants’ top free agents will land

NFL free agency begins March 11thThere is a lot of curiosity as to how the New York Giants will approach free agency under head coach John Harbaugh.

The Giants’ top free agents are receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and corner Cor’Dell Floet. All three are at the top of their respective positions on the free agency market and will draw attention across the league.

The team has interest in trying to re-sign each player, but with $14.2 million in cap space according to Over the Cap after cutting Bobby Okereke, James Hudson and restructuring Devin Singletary’s contract, that’s not a realistic possibility. Here are our predictions for the landing spots for New York’s top three free agents.

RELATED: 3 free agent receivers who should be on the New York Giants’ radar

Robinson is coming off the best season of his four-year career as he had career highs in receptions (92), receiving yards (1,014) and receiving touchdowns with four. When Malik Nabors was lost for the season due to a torn ACL in Week 4, Robinson was the only reliable wideout that Jackson Dart had to throw to.

The twenty-five-year-old wideout has established himself as one of the best slot receivers in the league, and it is expected that he will want a contract that will pay him $16-18 million annually. This may be more than New York is willing to pay the 5’8 185-pound receiver, especially since he is limited outside in numbers.

Additionally, former Giants head coach Brian Daboll, now the offensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans, would love to reunite with Robinson and help him develop quarterback Cam Ward. The Titans have more than $92 million in cap space and can pay Robinson whatever they want.

Prediction: Robinson signs with Tennessee Titans

Elyumunor spent the last two seasons with Big Blue and started 31 games. The 31-year-old right tackle has been solid in pass protection as he had a PFF pass blocking grade of 76.7, and he helped the Giants finish fifth in the league at 129 yards per game.

Elyumunor considers himself one of the best right tackles in the league, and the above-average offensive tackle could be worth $13 to $17 million annually. If he and his agent are willing to settle for the low end of that range, there’s a good chance he’ll return to the team.

What bodes well for his return is that head coach John Harbaugh was the head coach in Baltimore when the Ravens drafted him with the 159th overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. Ensuring that Jackson Dart remains upright is a priority for the club, and Elyumunor has shown he can help achieve this.

Prediction: Elyumunor re-signs with Giants

After being a part-time starter his first three seasons, Flott emerged as a full-time starter and started all 14 games in which he appeared. In 2025, he had 38 tackles, a career-high 11 passes defensed, and one interception.

The 24-year-old corner will look to maximize his earning potential while still in the prime of his career, but this is a deep free agency pool at cornerback. With many corners on the market, this could hurt his value, especially since he has never thrown more than one interception in a season. His small frame at 6’2, 175 pounds has raised concerns about whether he will fit the physical style that New York expects to play under new defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson.

The Giants are weak, especially as Deonte Banks has been a huge disappointment in his three years with the team. So, unless another team breaks the bank to pay the float, he should come back to the team.

Prediction: Flott re-signs with the Giants

Rumor Reveals Why the NY Giants Almost Traded Trent McDuffie and Why They Failed

A new report on Wednesday reveals that the New York Giants came just moments away from completing a trade for rising defensive star Trent McDuffie.

After a poor 4-13 finish and third consecutive loss on the season, there is actually real hope and excitement for NY Giants fans heading into the 2026 campaign. This is due to the hiring of former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

While the Ravens fired Harbaugh earlier this year, it was due to him not reaching the high standard he had set over the past 18 seasons, not because he wasn’t coaching at a high level. Harbaugh has led the Ravens to the playoffs in 12 of his 18 seasons, won 10 or more games 11 times (12 two seasons ago), and has a Super Bowl championship on his resume.

Harbaugh is expected to get more out of this roster than Brian Daboll has in the last four years. However, the NY Giants still need more impact players if they hope to become a playoff contender in 2026. And it seems they had their eye on one of the game’s best young cornerbacks to help improve those chances.

NY Giants were close to trading Trent McDuffie

Chiefs
Denny Medley-Images Images

Kansas City Star NFL reporter Sam McDowell revealed, “I’m told the Trent McDuffie trade came down to the Rams and Giants. In the end, the Rams were the team that was willing to give up a first-round plus.”

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Rams completed a blockbuster trade for the 2025 All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion. In the deal, the Kansas City Chiefs received a first-round pick (No. 29), fifth- and sixth-rounders in next month’s NFL Draft, and a third-rounder next year.

McDuffie is in the final year of his rookie contract and is expected to get a new long-term deal that will pay him around $30 million annually. McDuffie would have been a huge contribution to a NY Giants secondary that was terrible last season. Although they didn’t complete a trade, it’s good to see the front office looking to make big, bold moves to fix one of the team’s biggest issues in 2025.

Draft expert says rumored NY Giants target is as good as recent NFL MVP finalist

One notable NFL Draft expert believes rumored New York Giants first-round target Jeremiah Love could be better than Jahmir Gibbs or as valuable as the typical 2025 MVP finalist.

The NY Giants are in an interesting position in the early rounds of the draft. Obviously, after a 4-13 finish in 2025, they could use help in various areas of the roster. However, the team feels they have a long-term option at quarterback with Jackson Dart. This means that when it’s time to choose they can take the best player available.

While early mock drafts have linked the team to players like Ohio State stars Carnell Tate and Caleb Downs, recently there has been rumors and momentum about the organization selecting Notre Dame star Jeremiah Love at No. 5. The Heisman Trophy finalist’s stellar performance at last week’s NFL Combine has certainly piqued his potential interest.

In the days since, the buzz around Love has been intense with football experts all around praising the running back and speculating how good he could be at the next level. The latest information comes from FOX’s top college football analyst Joe Klatt.

Joe Klatt compared Jeremiah Love to Christian McCaffrey?

Christian McCaffrey
kevin image images

In a new edition of joe cleat showHe called Love “phenomenal” because of his homerun abilities, pass catching and never fumbling. “If you look at some of the recent players. Like Ashton Jeanty, Omarion Hampton, Bijan Robinson, Jahmir Gibbs, I think Love is as good or better than all of those players,” Klatt said.

All of those backs were first-round picks in an era when running back value declined around the league. Following the combine, rumors are increasing that Love could be a top three pick in April, and will go no further than the NY Giants at No. 5.

Klatt later compared Love again to Gibbs, but also to 2025 MVP candidate Christian McCaffrey. “To me, he’s more like Jahmir Gibbs and Christian McCaffrey than some of the other backs in the NFL,” Klatt said.

This is a bold comparison. In his first three seasons in the game, Gibbs has become one of the game’s elite running backs. While the San Francisco 49ers star has been one of the most valuable players in the game over the past few seasons.

Reports suggest the NY Giants will not get a chance to select Jeremiah Love, even if the rumors are true

If the New York Giants really want to take Notre Dame star Jeremiah Love as their first pick in April’s NFL Draft, new reports suggest he won’t be available in time for Round 1.

In early mock drafts, the team was linked to various players, including Ohio State stars Carnell Tate and Caleb Downs. However, recent rumors claimed that the organization was relying too heavily on Heisman Trophy finalist Jeremiah Love despite having Cam Scatebo as the RB1 option next season.

At last week’s combine, Love was impressive and certainly piqued the interest of the NY Giants brain trust in him. However, his performance caught the attention of the entire league, including teams ahead of Big Blue in Round 1. And now it looks like a RB won’t be on the board until New York makes their selection.

Titans are favorites to select Jeremiah Love in the 2026 NFL Draft

veteran
Kirby Lee-Images Images

According to NFL Draft expert Todd McShay, Love is such a “special” talent that he doesn’t see the NY Giants going as a back five. However, it wouldn’t be “surprised” if he goes to the Arizona Cardinals (No. 2) or Tennessee Titans (No. 3).

Adding to the idea that Love won’t make it past the Titans at age three, Pro Football Talk reports that Tennessee is the current betting favorite (+200) to select the six-foot, 214-pound RB who ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the combine last week.

Last year for the Fighting Irish, Love had 199 carries for 1,372 rushing yards, 27 catches for 280 yards and 21 total touchdowns.

Rumor reveals NY Giants targeting Super Bowl MVP to replace Cam Skattebo

Despite rookie Cam Skattebo becoming a favorite among New York Giants fans, a new report has further fueled speculation that the new coaching staff does not project him as their preferred player in 2026.

After going 3-14 in 2024, the NY Giants finished a poor 4-13 last season. That’s why Brian Daboll was fired in November, and the organization worked hard to replace him with former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

There were some bright spots in a miserable year. However, among the reasons to watch in 2025 was spark-plug rookie running back Cam Scatebo. The fourth-round pick brought energy and aggression that was sorely needed, and before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in October, the former Arizona State star was giving the team reason to believe he had the potential to be a RB next season.

The NY Giants are under new management, and it seems Harbaugh and his staff believe the G-Men will be best as a dominant run-first team. However, it seems they don’t trust Skatobo to be at the forefront of that new strategy.

The NY Giants are targeting Kenneth Walker in free agency.

veteran
Darren Yamashita-Imagen Images

“You heard something about the Giants at the combine: They’re seriously considering some of the top running backs in both the draft + free agency,” reports ESPN’s Jordan Ranan. “Players like Jeremiah Love, Travis Etienne and Kenneth Walker from Notre Dame. There seems to be a clear focus on becoming a more physical, run-heavy team.”

Earlier this week, a rumor surfaced that the team was looking at Love as a target with the fifth overall selection in April’s NFL Draft. The news surprised many NY Giants fans and analysts because of the role Skattebo had developed for himself the previous season. Some suggested that this may have been a smoke screen to hide the team’s real goal.

However, Raanan’s report suggests that while he may not replace Skattebo as the RB1 in the draft, it could come in free agency. Etienne and Walker are two of the best running backs on the open market this year. Walker saw his stock rise in a big way after earning MVP honors in the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl win earlier this month.

New and ‘perfect’ NY Giants draft target revealed amid ups and downs and Tate rumors

A new report suggests a different player may have overtaken Caleb Downs and Carnell Tate on the New York Giants’ NFL Draft board. And he is a partner of both the players.

Despite their third consecutive losing season, there is new hope for the NY Giants. This is due to the hiring of former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. The one-time Super Bowl winner’s resume has given fans reason to believe that better and more competitive days are ahead for Big Blue.

Another reason for fans to be optimistic is that the organization will have premium picks in April’s NFL Draft, including the fifth overall selection. That selection has been the source of a lot of speculation over the past month. The NY Giants feel they don’t need a QB so they might as well take the best player available. But who could that be, and who is the best fit for the team?

In various mock drafts, Ohio State receiver Carnell Tate is a player often linked to the NY Giants at five. However, over the past few weeks, his teammate, Caleb Downs, has received a lot of discussion as a potential selection as Harbaugh has a history of preferring elite safeties in his defense. However, another Buckeyes star made headlines in New York, especially after an impressive performance at the NFL Combine this week.

Sonny Styles a ‘perfect’ fit for NY Giants at No. 5 in NFL Draft?

“Sonny Styles has also confirmed that he is the top pick in this year’s draft. The Giants are the surefire prospect at No. 5,” reports ESPN NY Giants insider Jordan Raanan. “Many people who worked under John Harbaugh in the past see it as a ‘perfect’ fit.”

The Ohio State linebacker looked excellent at the combine on Thursday. Posting a 4.46 40-yard dash and 43.50 vertical jump. Both were the No. 1 ranked linebackers in this year’s class. The three-year starter earned first-time All-American honors in 2025 as a key part of the Buckeyes’ elite defense last season.

New York Giants could be shopping former top draft pick

The New York Giants have had four selections in the top ten of the NFL draft order over the past four years. Claiming the 5th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Giants are ready to add to that total. Before the Giants add another highly touted prospect, general manager Joe Schoen may be preparing to trade one of his recent picks.

Recently, SNY’s Connor Hughes reported that NFL teams are operating under the belief that Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is available via trade.

“A name to keep an eye on, Kayvon Thibodaux. Kayvon might be one that’s a little more spendy. At least someone the Giants would be willing to listen to offers. Teams I’ve talked to around the NFL combine believe he’s available at the right price.”

Connor Hughes on Kayvon Thibodeaux

This should come as no big surprise to Giants fans, as Thibodaux has been linked to trade rumors since the time Abdul Carter was selected third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Still, after an 11.5-sack season in 2023, a lot of teams will be eager to see if they can get Thibodeaux to consistently produce at a high level. He has recorded a total of eight sacks in the last 22 games.

With the Giants’ commitments to Brian Burns and Carter, they don’t need another high-profile pass-rusher like Thibodeaux. Other teams will definitely give him a chance to compete for the starting role. That opportunity is not currently available in New York.

The Giants have seven selections in the upcoming draft, but with only selections Nos. 5 and 37, they will only add two prospects in the top 100 selections. The Thibodaux trade could help add another valuable contributor to the Giants’ draft class.

Italian giants eyeing Crystal Palace talent – youth on transfer agenda

Over the past few years, Crystal Palace have demonstrated their ability to develop youth and sell on for profit. Adam Wharton could be next in line, with Eberechi Eze gone in the summer.

One player who is making his mark at youth level for the Eagles is goalkeeper Luca Benetton. He is currently with the London U18s team.

He is only 15 years old, but the talent has already received a call up to the England Under-16s and has played three times for them. Continuing to develop at Crystal Palace, Benetton is now attracting the attention of major Serie A sides.

Juventus interested in Crystal Palace talent

IT migration market report in detail about the teenager, making it clear that Juventus and Atalanta are keeping a close eye on the goalkeeper. There is a belief that his future may lie in Italy, with the player having a number of national side options.

The outlet makes it clear that Benetton is considered one of England’s most promising young goalkeepers.

It is known that the talent has already trained with the first team of Crystal Palace and this happened when he was only 14 years old. This is an indication of his general quality and ability.

This seems to have caught the attention of many in Italy, with the Azzurri U16s side also trying to snap him up.

Benetton just wants to play for England

The CM added some information about Pratibha’s international future. He is confident that he has a chance to play for Italy Under-16. Manager Manuel Pascal is keen to include him in the team.

Benetton has been clear about his future with England, having trained with their U16 team at the last three camps between 2025 and 2026.

Why won’t the New York Giants use the franchise tag?

NFL franchise tag window opens Tuesday, February 17thAnd despite the New York Giants having several key free agents, don’t expect them to designate their franchise tag.

The Giants’ three biggest free agents are receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and corner Cor’Dell Floet. Although all three had their best seasons with Big Blue in 2025, all three will be unrestricted free agents when free agency begins on March 11.th.

In an ideal world, the team would like to bring back all three, but the NFL is not an ideal world, and the franchise tag for each position is expensive. The projected franchise tag for a receiver is $28.8 million, the projected tag for an offensive lineman is $27.9 million, and the projected tag for a corner is $21.4 million.

All three are talented players, but they aren’t elite and aren’t guaranteed to be among the highest-paid players at their respective positions for 2026, especially considering the team is only projected to have $6.9 million in cap space. General manager Joe Schoen can cut players and restructure contracts to free up cap space, but it still wouldn’t be in his best interest to overpay one of his free agents, even if it’s just for one season.

New York will try conservatively in contract negotiations to retain all three, but knows that the chances of keeping all three are slim. But with the fifth overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, the team is equipped to move on from at least one of its free agents.

First-round picks who could replace veteran free agents

There have been several mock drafts where teams address each position of their top free agents in the first round. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the team let one of its free agents leave in free agency and replaced him with a top college prospect.

As for wide receiver, Big Blue has been linked to Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate, Arizona State wideout Jordan Tyson and USC receiver Makai Lemon. Lemon was named first-team All-American, while Tate received second-team honors, and Tyson was named first-team All-Big 12.

It was clear that the receiver position was an issue when Malik Nabors was lost for the season in Week 4, as Robinson was the only reliable target to throw to Jackson Dart.

But there’s a good chance the team could lose Robinson in free agency, as it’s rumored he’s seeking a four-year deal that would pay him around $17 million annually. That price may be higher than what teams are willing to pay for a 5-8, 185-pound slot receiver.

Drafting one of the college prospects would be a cheaper option for New York, and since all three are bigger than Robinson, they provide more of a threat on the outside, which the team will especially need if Nabors gets injured again.

University of Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa has also been linked as a possible option for the Giants at pick number five. The 6’6 315-pound Mauigoa appeared in 42 games in his three years at Miami and was rated as one of the best right tackles in the country. In 2025, he was a consensus first-team All-American, and he fits all the measurables you need in a tackle.

Another player who has been linked to New York is LSU Tiger cornerback Mansur Delaney. Delaney spent his first three years at Virginia Tech before transferring to LSU in 2005. He was a unanimous All-American and recorded 45 tackles, 11 passes defensed and two interceptions. The six-foot, 190-pound corner is very good in press coverage and would be ready to step in as the Week 1 starter if drafted.

How the Giants handle their free agents will provide insight into what direction they may go with their first pick in the draft. We should take a look at these prospects during the NFL Combine this week.

New York Giants coach John Harbaugh discusses drafting Caleb Downs

After completely revamping their coaching staff, the New York Giants now have some roster work to do. Giants general manager Joe Schoen is still in office, which means he should have a strong sense of his team’s top strengths and weaknesses. One thing that is clear is that the Giants’ 26th-ranked defense must improve.

The Giants will certainly make some moves in free agency, but they are projected to start the offseason with just $7 million in cap space. While cap cuts and contract restructuring could provide some more money, the Giants’ biggest contribution could come from their 2026 rookie class.

However, the Giants have the advantage of having the fifth overall pick in the first round, putting them in a position to select blue-chip talent. Perhaps even one that can help rescue those in dire need.

Despite the presence of Tyler Nubin and Javon Holland, one popular player who is generally projected to land with the Giants in the 2026 NFL mock draft is Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. Recently, Coach Harbaugh addressed the possibility of selecting a safety like Downs, which would be his highest draft selection ever as a head coach.

Harbaugh said, “We favor Hall of Fame safety, so if we get a chance to draft a potential future Hall of Fame safety in Caleb Downs, that would be OK with me.” “We’ll take the best player. When you draft that high, you take the best player. It’s not a need pick, it’s a best player pick because you’re picking the guy that’s going to be that type of player. You’re talking about a player that you would like to see wear a gold jacket someday if possible.”

John Harbaugh on Caleb Downs

Downs is viewed as one of the best guards available in the upcoming draft class. If the Giants are trying to prioritize upgrading their weakest unit, Downs will definitely help.

However, the Giants have already invested significantly in their starting safety group. Nubin was selected in the second round in 2024. Holland was one of their prized free agents last offseason, signing a three-year, $45 million contract.

However, Downs has the potential to be better than both of them. Furthermore, Holland and Nubbin are only under contract until 2027. Meanwhile, Downs can still make an impact as an athlete capable of moving all over the field, like Harbaugh did with All-Pro Kyle Hamilton in Baltimore.

Ultimately, with the Giants already having a quarterback, an elite receiver, an All-Pro offensive tackle and great pass-rushers, selecting the best player available makes the most sense at No. 5. This could very well be downs.

Jared McCain goes full Scooby Doo after Nets game vs. Giants

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jared McCain scored a season-high 21 points in a 105–86 win against the Brooklyn Nets. In the Thunder’s sixth consecutive game without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, McCann’s 21 points led Oklahoma City in scoring before his team’s debut.

McCain, this has become a tradition for new players over the years debuted its bark During his first walk-off interview for the Thunder, according to FanDuel TV.

The new Thunder Player Postgame Bark began when Jalen Williams and Jaylin Williams introduced it to fans in attendance and during walk-off interviews, and eventually became required for all new Thunder players.

Mark Daigneault praises Thunder for making major adjustments

With the Thunder missing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams for the next one to two weeks, head coach Mark Daigneault says that although Friday’s win against the Nets was not good, his players found a way. The Thunder defense held the Nets to 10 points in the second quarter. Then, found their offensive rhythm in the second half.

For Daigneault, the absence of Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and Ajay Mitchell has disrupted the Thunder’s offensive continuity, forcing the defending champions to make quick adjustments.

“We’re obviously missing some on-ball creators. So, the way we’re trying to create an advantage is different right now,” Daigneault said. “But once we get the lead and once we move the ball, those games are no different. I thought we played some pretty good plays. I also thought we had some plays we could learn from. We had a lot of turnovers. It wasn’t a clean offensive game.

“It was tough to establish a rhythm with some of those plays, but guys are being put in good positions. Obviously, we have to start building our muscles collectively, but we also have to continue to develop those habits offensively.”

The Thunder will host the Cavs in a matinee on Sunday.

CSK vs LSG Highlights: 39th Match IPL 2024 | Chennai Super Kings vs Lucknow Super Giants full highlights

CSK vs LSG Highlights: Marcus Stoinis Century Silences Chepauk as LSG Secure Historic Double

The 39th match of IPL 2024 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium was nothing short of a cinematic thriller. In a high-stakes encounter, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) clinical run-chase ended Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) dominance at home. Despite a masterful century from CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, it was Marcus Stoinis who stole the show with a legendary 124*, leading LSG to a 6-wicket victory.

First Innings: Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Captain’s Knock

Sent into bat first, CSK faced an early setback with the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane. However, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad stood tall. Gaikwad played a breathtaking innings, scoring 108* off just 60 balls, featuring 12 boundaries and 3 sixes. He became the first CSK captain to score a century in the IPL.

The middle order saw a fiery cameo from Shivam Dube, who smashed 66 off 27 balls, providing the much-needed impetus in the death overs. The duo’s partnership propelled Chennai to a formidable total of 210/4 in their 20 overs. The Chepauk crowd was on its feet as MS Dhoni finished the innings with a boundary on the final ball.

The Chase: Marcus Stoinis Takes Control

Chasing 211 at Chepauk is never easy, especially under the lights with the ball gripping. LSG’s start was shaky, losing Quinton de Kock for a duck and KL Rahul shortly after. At 33/2, the pressure was mounting. However, Marcus Stoinis was elevated to number three, and he played the innings of a lifetime.

Stoinis took the game deep, picking his bowlers and targets with surgical precision. Supported by Nicholas Pooran (34 off 15) and later Deepak Hooda, Stoinis kept the required run rate within reach. Despite Matheesha Pathirana’s scorching spells, Stoinis remained unfazed.

The Final Over Drama

LSG needed 17 runs off the final over bowled by Mustafizur Rahman. Stoinis smashed a six off the first ball, followed by three consecutive boundaries. With a mix of power and timing, he reached his maiden IPL century and guided LSG to victory with 3 balls to spare. LSG finished at 213/4, marking the highest successful run chase ever at the Chepauk stadium.

Harbaugh promotes NY Giants and Caleb brushes off NFL draft rumors

None other than head coach John Harbaugh has fueled speculation that the New York Giants will make Ohio State star Caleb Downs their top pick in April’s NFL Draft.

For the third consecutive season, the NY Giants will have a top 10 pick in the draft. After a 4-13 season in 2025, the team will have to make some of its selections in April if it hopes to return to competitive football next season. This also means they should make the most of the fifth overall selection.

After drafting Jackson Dart in Round 1 of last year’s NFL Draft, the organization believes it does not need to select a QB this year. Meaning they can take the best available player at No. 5. After another poor season, there are a number of ways a team can select, and early mock drafts have them taking a top offensive lineman, receiver, or cornerback.

However, there has been recent speculation that the team could go in a different direction and select a player, with many draft experts believing that the best player in this year’s class is Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs. While the versatile safety is just one of the many options the NY Giants will have at the back five, it looks like he has a big fan in the team’s new head coach, John Harbaugh.

Harbaugh set to take Caleb Downs as NY Giants’ first pick

During a new conversation with New York sports radio personality Mike Francesa this week, the coach was asked about possibly taking downs, and his history of building his defense around elite safeties like Ed Reed and Kyle Hamilton. In response, Harbaugh made no secret of being a big fan of the Ohio State alumnus.

The coach said, “We favor Hall of Fame safety. So if we have a chance to draft a potential future Hall of Fame safety in Caleb Downs, that would be OK with me.” “When you draft that high, you pick the best player. It’s not a need pick, it’s a pick of the best player. You’re talking about a guy that you would like to see wear a gold jacket someday, if possible. That’s the goal of that pick.”

A strong case can be made that Downs is the best player in this year’s class, or at the very least, can make the most immediate impact among the top players this year. Considering what Harbaugh said, if Downs is still on the board when the NY Giants are 5th, it’s very possible they take him.
