Everton make inquiry for Sporting defender – have difficulty convincing £11million signing

everton Georgios Vagiannidis has been handed a clear path over the situation at Sporting, with Portuguese newspapers reporting that the Toffees have already made an inquiry about the right-back.

The 24-year-old is not guaranteed a place in the Sporting team for next season. This comes after a first campaign that never quite convinced the Portuguese champions.

Georgios Vagiannidis made 32 appearances in all competitions last season, including 22 in Liga Portugal. In the league, he provided four assists in 864 minutes.

Those figures showed there was involvement, but Sporting clearly expected more after the big investment.

everton angle emerges

to ball Everton and Villarreal are both keeping tabs on the Greece international. Both clubs had already followed him before his move from Panathinaikos to Sporting.

Sporting paid €12.5m (£10.6m) to €13m (£11m) for Georgios Vagiannidis last summer. Now, if they can recover that investment they are willing to let him go.

Vagiannidis has made it clear that he would like to remain at Sporting and prove himself. However, that desire may not be enough.

A Bola also reports that no official proposal has yet reached Alvalade. Nevertheless, Everton and Villarreal have asked about the terms of the deal.

A return to Greece has already been rejected by the player. He either wants to succeed in sporting or try his luck in a more competitive league.

The loan is now on the table

Georgios Vagiannidis could also be ruled out of next season. In a recent reportA Bola says the scenario is being discussed within Sporting.

The idea would be to give him more regular minutes and allow him to return more mature. Sporting still believe he has the qualities to develop.

However, the picture on the right is getting crowded. Ivan Fresneda is currently first choice, although there is also interest from England.

Fresneda’s late-season injury may have hindered his exit, as he missed the final nine games. Young Salvador Blopa is also expected to be a consistent part of the team next season.

This means Sporting is open to solutions. The player has rejected Greece, and there was already interest from England before his move to Portugal.

This gives Everton a potential opening, especially if Sporting decide a loan or sale is the cleanest way to move forward.

Everton make inquiry for right-back rated €10 million – second opportunity to sign

everton Sporting Clube de Portugal are again showing interest in right-back Georgios Vagiannidis.

A report said that Everton are one of the options on the table for the 24-year-old, who could be signed for at least €10m.

Everton’s interest revived

The newspaper reports that the Greek right-back could leave Sporting this summer because he is ‘lacking playing time’ at the club.

Although he has publicly expressed his intention to stay and attempt to establish himself, his continued presence in the team has not yet been confirmed.

Georgios Vagiannidis has made 32 appearances for Sporting this season, but his performances have failed to convince. As a result, they are willing to let Sporting go if they can recoup the money they spent last summer.

The defender joined from Panathinaikos in a €13m deal but is currently valued at €10m. Two parties in particular have inquired about the terms of the deal; Everton and Villarreal.

No official offer has been made yet, but both clubs have made inquiries. And, interestingly, both were interested in him even before he moved to Sporting last summer.

Everton need a right-back

Sport Witness covered those reports at the timeSporting won the race after Everton took the lead. Now he and Villarreal are back on the scene.

For his part, Georgios Vagiannidis has already rejected a return to Greece as he wants to establish himself with Sporting. But he would also be interested in trying his luck in a ‘more competitive league’. The Premier League would certainly fit into that category.

Everton need at least one right-back this summer, the experiment of playing Jake O’Brien in this position is certainly at an end. Seamus Coleman has also moved on and Nathan Patterson could also go.

Reports in England have already linked them with a £10m move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It now appears that Sporting may also have a €10 million option on the table.
