Then add $6 million for a player taken in Round 1 of the NBA Draft – that pick will likely be around No. 11. Taking them to $194 million, which is $11 million under the tax threshold.

The second part of the plan will try to convince Leonard to join the team on the $15 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception. He admits it’s not a guarantee, but adding a high-impact player with championship potential when fully healthy is the best option.

It’s a plan that will require a bit of luck, but the chance to get on the Warriors roster and a stud prospect in the lottery may appeal to Leonard if he wants to stay in California and pursue another championship. On Monday evening, the Golden State Warriors dropped back to .500 on the season with a tough loss to the Utah Jazz. The Warriors were playing without several key players, including point guard Stephen Curry, who had missed much of the All-Star break due to a knee problem.

Many are already looking at the 2025-26 Warriors season as a lost one, given Curry’s prolonged absence as well as the loss of Jimmy Butler for the season due to an ACL injury.

However, apparently, Curry hopes the Warriors’ fortunes change this offseason.

“…I think he knows that whether it’s Giannis, whether it’s LeBron James, there’s going to be somebody next summer that’s going to join him, join Jimmy, join Drummond, assuming he’s still there… Remember, this is the Warriors, they’ve got a brand, they can make a quick fix and add some talent,” NBA insider Mark Spears said, via 95.7 The Game, per NBC Sports Bay Area. However, Spears also said there is still value in giving some of the Warriors’ young players big minutes throughout the rest of this season, and regardless of how far Golden State goes in the playoffs.
