While the New Jersey Devils watch the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs from home, one of their most ardent supporters still has something to play for.

Josh Langer, Devils season-ticket holder and the voice behind one of the largest Devils fan accounts on Instagram, @devils.fanpage, placed second out of more than 616,000 entries in the NHL’s official ‘Bracket Challenge.’

He has correctly predicted the outcome of all 12 playoff series so far – and determined the exact number of games for every series except three.

All that remains for completion is the Colorado Avalanche and Carolina Hurricanes meeting in the Stanley Cup Finals, with the Avs winning it all. According to NHL.com, both of these teams are “overwhelming favorites” to advance in their respective series.

The first place bracket belonging to user “galastorn” predicted the same finals result. But the total number of goals scored in the final could become a potential tiebreaker; Langer predicted 35, while Galstorna predicted 33.

If Langer is able to leap into the first place bracket and win it all, he will win an all-expenses-paid trip to any NHL event as well as a limited edition Norken watch valued at over $10,000. not bad.

Even if he is unable to do so, he will still have a pile of rewards from the individual groups he is involved in, of which Langer says he is “absolutely guaranteed to win at this rate.”

It took him only five minutes to make the bracket.

“I’m a big hockey fan and follow enough regular season action to make my own picks from the dome when looking at the bracket for the first time,” Langer explained. “And from there I think I have a good chance right from the start.”

One call he’s particularly proud of? Picking the Anaheim Ducks to upset the Edmonton Oilers in the first round:

He said, “It feels like Edmonton’s window is slowly closing without proper goaltending, meanwhile Anaheim’s window is opening with young star talent.” “The only way I could have gone different was based on playoff experience, but I still went with Anaheim.”

Many of her more than 51,600 followers on Instagram have supported her bid for first place.

“With the way the internet is these days, you’d probably expect some trash talk to accompany anything I post,” he laughs, “but I’m not sure I’ve seen much, if any, under my bracket success posts, it’s been mainly fun, positive words and most importantly shocking.”

The Devils’ two most recent playoff sweeps have come at the hands of the Hurricanes. Naturally, he’s eating her out.

“I’ve been a Devils fan since birth,” Josh told me. “I was 8 days old when they won their third title in 2003, so I was instantly obsessed with my father and that’s been in my life forever.”

However, the Hurricanes’ success against the Jersey side hasn’t stopped them from being objective when it matters. In fact, he says the opposite is true.

“When filling out a bracket my Devils fandom is put aside. All biases are put aside and I make my picks based on how that team performed that season in my mind… Picking Carolina to go to the Finals this year, I wouldn’t do it if my Devils fandom got in the way.”

Langer has filled out an NHL bracket every year since 2018 or 2019 — it’s a tradition he, his family and his friends look forward to like many during March Madness.

Of course, as a Devils fan, it will be a bit strange for him to watch the Eastern Conference Finals.

He said, “I won’t be rooting for Carolina, but I won’t be as upset if they win the ECF this year compared to the year I didn’t have the right bracket.” “If Montreal wins, great. I won’t be upset because I would love to see them in the finals. If Carolina wins, great too, because it’s good news for my class.”

What if it all comes together and he wins the entire challenge?

“Yeah, I mean it would be great, right?” Josh said with a big smile.

For a man who has been going to games since childhood and now runs one of the largest Devils communities online, a national bracket title would be the final ray of hope after a disappointing Devils season.

The Utah Mammoth are another team that has a lot of business to do right now. Utah is in the Western Conference, but the Oilers will be able to get the edge thanks to their NHL superstar. Under the leadership of Clayton Keller and Logan Cooley, the addition of McDavid will benefit the organization. The question is whether McDavid wants to play in Utah or a bigger market.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are clearly a good fit for McDavid. If McDavid requests a trade, Tampa will have a bigger chance to get him on the short list because of head coach John Cooper. At the Olympics and Four Nations, Cooper led Canada and McDavid was their star player. If anything changes in Edmonton, the Lightning figure to be paired with McDavid.

The Montreal Canadiens are on the rise, and may be assured of a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals. If McDavid ever wants to move out of Edmonton, Montreal has the ability to make a trade work by linking him to Cole Caufield & Co. This would allow McDavid to remain in Canada during his championship season with the Canadiens.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs would love to add Connor McDavid, and it could be a mutual feeling. McDavid has had ties to Toronto since his childhood, and a trade with the Maple Leafs would help him come home. Toronto may not be an attractive destination after missing the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but McDavid could help the team moving forward.

The Detroit Red Wings are looking to make big moves during the 2026 NHL offseason that will get them back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As of 2026, the Red Wings have the NHL’s longest playoff drought, so Detroit will have to make the playoffs next season. In fact, one NHL insider has labeled one of the NHL’s best free agents as a potential fit in Detroit.

The Athletic’s Max Bultmann named Seattle Kraken forward Bobby McMann as the free agent Detroit should sign this offseason. McMann, who was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Kraken at the NHL trade deadline, scored 29 goals and 46 points in 78 games between the two organizations.

The 29-year-old forward would bring much-needed five-on-five attack to Detroit on a potentially big payday. However, who else did Bultmann suggest for the Red Wings?

Other potential NHL free agent targets for the Detroit Red Wings

While McMann was the top selection, Bultmann also suggested other players, including Buffalo Sabers forward Alex Tuch. The 30-year-old forward may be the top NHL free agent on the market, but will Buffalo really let him walk? Tuch has scored more than 30 goals in three of the last four seasons.

Meanwhile, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Mason Marchment was another option. Marchement doesn’t provide as much offense as Tuch or McMann, but he could be a cheaper option. However, if Detroit wants to add one of the top free agents, it will have to make a big move or go home.

This leads us to Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin. The Pittsburgh legend is nearing the end of his career, but he has become a Red Wings fan. Malkin can still score around 20 goals per season, and there’s a possibility he’ll get a hometown discount for his favorite team as he grows up.

At the end of the day, McMann, along with Tuch, appears to be one of the top options for Detroit. The latter will be a larger pickup; However, there are doubts that it will reach the market. In this case, McMann appears to be one of the top options left.

Either way, the Red Wings need to take a big step forward this offseason to make the 2027 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Since ancient times, undue importance has been given to low-sized prospects. Look no further than Cole Caufield, the 5-foot-7 Montreal Canadiens 50-goal scorer who fell to 15th overall in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Despite scoring 72 goals during the season, the previous US development team record (Auston Matthews, 55) was demolished.

The New Jersey Devils could take advantage of that bias towards smaller players by selecting Viggo Bjork if he is still available with their 12th overall pick in the first round on June 26.

Björk Caulfield is not small either. He stands at 5-foot-10, 172 pounds, and watching his style of play in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) or the recent IIHF World Championship should put most size concerns to rest. He has drawn comparisons to Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point.

However, we have seen it time and again. Many scouts are stubborn and stale in their analysis of less skilled players, even if those players continue to prove them wrong.

The Athletic draft expert Corey Pronman has Bjork headed to the Devils at #12 in his mock draft. Trading the pick might be in the Devils’ best interest. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned about general manager Sunny Mehta, it’s that he’s not afraid to do what he feels is right, even if it’s unpopular.

Thus, if nothing comes of the Devils’ time, using the pick on Bjork could still be an incredible option. Based on skill and talent alone, he is in the top five.

Playing against NHL talent at the World Championship, he didn’t look out of place in any way. Take it from the great Sidney Crosby himself:

“It’s not easy [being that young at Worlds] … You know, he’s very balanced and you can tell he’s competitive. He’s not the biggest guy but he sees the ice well, makes good shots, does everything well. The way he competed, he was really tenacious with the puck.”

Sweden has equalized against Canada in the power play.

Björk has two points (1G, 1A) in three games, as well as a disallowed goal, and despite his youth he has not shied away from participating in (and winning) puck battles. Both his playing ability and general hockey IQ seem well ahead of his age.

Bjork can also excel on the right wing, which could be a better option if he becomes a perennial 50+ point producer.

There is no guarantee that Björk will still be on the board at pick No. 12. But if he is, which wouldn’t be a surprise given his drafting history, the Devils shouldn’t think too much about it.

History with Mehta says he probably won’t think too much about it; They had Jesper Bratt, who was drafted #172 in 2016, ranked as the third best player in the entire draft via their draft model.

As GM, Mehta is clearly in a much more influential position than he was a decade ago. Fans should have full faith in Mehta and company. Decide to pursue.

Jack Hughes’ future with the New Jersey Devils has been in the headlines recently. With Quinn Hughes approaching NHL free agency, a potential extension with the Minnesota Wild is on the table. However, the Hughes brothers’ futures remain tied to each other, and an NHL insider has provided a big update on the New Jersey forward.

As reported by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on the Fan Hockey Show, the Devils are not trading Jack Hughes after missing the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs. This report comes after The Athletic reported that Minnesota general manager Bill Guerin attempted to trade for New Jersey defenseman Luke Hughes at the 2026 NHL trade deadline.

The Wild want to keep Quinn Hughes long-term, so trading for one of his brothers is a great way to do that. However, is reelection more likely in New Jersey or Minnesota?

Why is Quinn Hughes more likely to join Jack Hughes in New Jersey?

Jack Hughes is under contract with New Jersey through the 2029–2030 NHL season. Luke Hughes, meanwhile, has a contract that runs until the 2031–32 campaign. So, is it more likely that the two New Jersey players will join Quinn Hughes in Minnesota or vice versa?

Despite what the public says, it is far more likely that Quinn Hughes comes to the Devils than the other way around. With the Wild defenseman entering his contract year, some questions need answers soon. If Quinn Hughes plans to stay with Minnesota, an extension will likely be pursued this summer.

Friedman had previously predicted a three-year contract, in line with Jack Hughes’ contract in New Jersey. Unless Jack Hughes requests a trade, it doesn’t make sense for New Jersey to trade him. After all, if Quinn Hughes wants to play with his brothers, he can sign with the Devils in NHL free agency next year.

It all depends on what Quinn Hughes wants to do moving forward. If a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals is his goal, staying in Minnesota would make the most sense. If playing with his brothers is a bigger desire than signing with New Jersey then that’s the most realistic outcome.

Either way, it’s much easier to imagine the Hughes brothers playing with each other in New Jersey than it is in Minnesota.

Is Nico Hischier going to cost the New Jersey Devils more than $11 million per season for the next eight years?

The latest AFP Analytics offseason contract projections indicate that may very well be the case.

The Devils have a lot of answers to answer under new general manager, Sunny Mehta.

And although they are heading into the summer with $11,875,000 in cap space, it seems like that money could be eaten up very quickly, with no real room to improve without making cuts elsewhere.

The NHL officially announced 12 days ago that the 2026-27 salary cap will be $104 million.

Here’s a quick look at the Devils’ projections:

Per Pakpedia projections for 2026–27:

• Salary Cap: $104,000,000
• Projected cap hit: $92,125,000
• Cap Space: $11,875,000
• Cap floor: $76.9 million

Although the Devils are comfortably on top despite the $1.25 million bonus paid in overtime, Mehta will have little time to work with due to some key extensions.

Here’s where the following major contracts are projected to land:

Pending Free Agent (2026 UFA/RFA)

• Arseny Gritsyuk:
  • Long-term: four years at $5.890 million AAV
  • Short term: two years at $3.046 million AAV
• Simon German:
  • Long term: seven years at $8.061 million AAV
  • Short term: two years at $4.473 million AAV
• Paul Couture: Three years at $2.325 million AAV
• Nico Dawes: $892,500 for one year

Extension-Eligible (July 1, 2026 – FA July 1, 2027)

These players can be given extensions starting July 1, but have one year left on their contracts and won’t hit free agency until 2027:

• Nico Hischier: $11.459 million AAV at eight years.
• Dawson Mercer:
  • Long-term: six years at $7.839 million AAV
  • Short: Two years at $5.762 million AAV
• Cody Glass: Three years at $4.302 million AAV
• Brandon Dillon: $3.814 million, one year
• Stefan Noesen: $1,122 million in one year
• Seamus Casey: $940,500 for one year

Looking towards 2027-28

Let’s assume the salary cap is projected to be $113,500,000 in 2027-28. At that time, the Devils are projected to have $47,125,000 in cap space (based on current commitments). Thus, if the Devils sign all of the above extensions – applying long-term deals to those with long-term projections – New Jersey will have only $1,370,500 in cap space on July 1, 2027.

What does it mean for devils

With $11.875 million in projected cap space for 2026-27, the Devils have ample room to pursue most or all of the major free agents and extension eligible players without drastic roster surgery. Of course, this doesn’t mean players who are probably going to walk like Denis Cholovsky and Evgeni Dadonov.

The big commitments – Hischier (up $11.459 million), Nemec (up $8.061 million), Gritsyuk (up $5.89 million), and Mercer (up $7.839 million) – will consume a large portion of that space.

This situation perfectly reflects the rapid inflation in the NHL salary cap. This cap is projected to increase from $104 million in 2026–27 to $113.5 million in 2027–28, resulting in a large jump in available dollars. Through 2027-28, the Devils are currently projected to have approximately $47.125 million in cap space – more than four times the room they will have this upcoming summer.

That said, it is not realistic to retain every pending free agent and extension-eligible player. The Devils will have to make choices – allowing some depth players to walk or move while prioritizing key pieces. Even with strong cap inflation, the money can disappear quickly after an extension is signed. Expect Mehta to be selective this summer and possibly look for ways to shed salary from existing contracts to create more breathing room.

Overall, the projections are encouraging for New Jersey. However, if the Devils are looking for outside help, Mehta will have to find ways to shed some of the burden.

The Minnesota Wild need to improve after the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. After blowing a 3–0 lead in Game 5, the Colorado Avalanche swept Minnesota in five games. This was a disappointing conclusion; However, the Wild should be back on the trade market this summer. In fact, Minnesota has been linked to a surprise NHL superstar.

The Athletic’s Michael Russo and Joe Smith listed Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews as a player Minnesota should trade this summer. Matthews, who was captain of the United States at the Winter Olympics, could be on the move this offseason.

So, what does Minnesota need to see to make Matthews a realistic trade target?

Auston Matthews should request a trade with the Minnesota Wild as a destination

New Toronto general manager John Chayka will have to prove to Matthews that he can build a roster capable of returning to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Like Quinn Hughes, Matthews is also scheduled to become a free agent in two seasons prior to the 2025-26 NHL season. Therefore, the 28-year-old center has a significant advantage.

If the Maple Leafs do not convince Matthews that they can be a competitive team, he can request a trade this summer or during the 2026–27 NHL season. In this scenario, Minnesota would be one of the destinations Matthews is willing to play for moving forward.

Matthews has a no-activity clause in his contract, so he must clear a trade out of Toronto. The NHL superstar has ties to Minnesota, as Hughes, Matt Boldy and Brock Faber all played with them on the Olympic team and during the Four Nations. It would not be surprising if organization was one of their main priorities.

It’s unclear where Minnesota would have the assets to acquire Matthews after trading for Hughes in December 2025. The best scenario for the Wild would be for Matthews to request “Minnesota and only Minnesota” to play with his Olympic teammates. Either way, a trade could be a real possibility this summer.

If Matthews wants out of Toronto, the Wild should call whenever that happens.

The insider told Overdrive that TSN’s Darren Dreger doesn’t believe there’s any chance Matthews will request a trade unless the Maple Leafs complete a full rebuild. Toronto just got the first pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and still has playoff pieces on the roster. Therefore, it would not be very wise to do a complete rebuild right now.

Matthews is 28 years old and still one of the biggest superstars in the NHL. Toronto hasn’t gotten very far in the Stanley Cup playoffs with its captain, but it has the potential to do so soon. So, should Matthews remain captain of the Maple Leafs?

Absolutely. Matthews still has William Nylander, Matthew Nease and John Tavares and the No. 1 overall draft pick coming soon. More likely, Gavin McKenna or Ivar Stenberg will join Toronto during the 2026–27 NHL season, giving the organization another future NHL star.

Matthews has plenty of time to win a Stanley Cup in Toronto, and earning the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft is an excellent start. Certainly, the Maple Leafs center wants to see more from the organization this summer, but there is already a solid foundation in place for the future.

Other teams, such as the Minnesota Wild or Utah Mammoth, could give Matthews a good chance to win; However, is it really that much better than Toronto? Maple Leafs fans love Matthews and the team will be much better next season.

More than likely, Matthews will be back in Toronto next season and the future is very bright.

The Florida Panthers are considering making the necessary moves to make the 2027 Stanley Cup Playoffs. After winning the Stanley Cup Finals the previous two seasons, Florida missed the playoffs due to excessive injuries. Now, the Panthers have time to rest, and they could be a destination for one of the NHL’s best defensemen.

ESPN personality John Buccigross could see John Karlsson join the Panthers for the 2026-27 NHL season on Frankly Hockey. Karlsson joined the Washington Capitals during the 2009–2010 NHL season and spent 17 years with the organization before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks.

Now, Karlsson is set to become a free agent, so what does Florida have to do to get him this summer?

What the Florida Panthers need to do to sign John Carlson

Karlsson is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent during the 2026 NHL offseason, and should be in demand. The 36-year-old defenseman is a top-5 free agent this offseason with $8 million in earnings. So, what will Carlson demand from Florida this summer?

Signing Karlsson to a two- or three-year contract worth $8-10 million per season would likely be necessary. According to Spotrac, the Panthers are projected to have approximately $15 million in cap space this offseason. This doesn’t include Florida’s need for two goaltenders, including Sergei Bobrovsky.

Carlson would be an excellent fit with the Panthers, giving the team reliable star power on defense. The 36-year-old defenseman will fuel Florida’s offense in another run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Ultimately, Carlson fits the timeline for Florida, as the organization looks for another championship.

Although a return to Washington may not be a possibility, Karlsson could return to Anaheim if the team gets a chance to acquire him. The Ducks are a young and rising organization, but the Panthers may be a better fit over the next two to three years.

Carlson should make around $10 million, but it remains to be seen if Florida can add him to the payroll.

Ahead of Game 5 between the Buffalo Sabers and Montreal Canadiens, who are tied 2–2 in the series at the time of writing, the NHL announced the tentative schedule for the Eastern Conference Finals between the Carolina Hurricanes and whoever wins the Atlantic Series.

The Stars will have Robertson’s rights as a restricted free agent, so it would be wise to extract value if the organization doesn’t have room for him long-term. The Red Wings have the space and assets to do that and Robertson would be a great addition.

If not, there are other players still on the market, like Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson and St. Louis Blues center Robert Thomas. While neither of them are at the same height as Tkachuk, Matthews or Robertson, they would provide a much-needed boost to Detroit’s offense.

The NHL would be surprised if the Red Wings fail to make a blockbuster move, so that should give them a reason to feel that way.

Given that both games required extra time, it is safe to say that the series has been tightly contested, although there are some numbers worth noting as the Habs prepare to host the Bolts.

The first thing we have to acknowledge is that the numbers behind the first two games are odd. Well, maybe “odd” isn’t the right word, but they’re clearly based on limited data.

Such is life when analyzing in the playoffs.

With this in mind, built-in numbers were developed to get a better idea of ​​how a team—or individual—is performing in this scenario: limited data.

As always, we will discuss four different statistics. The first is Corsi For (CF%), which I often label as ‘shot share’ because it’s so descriptive, but in this case I’ve used the abbreviated version for ease of viewing. The Habs have also only managed to score two goals at 5v5, both of which were provided by fourth-line forward Josh Anderson. Overall, the Lightning haven’t lit the lamp as well at 5v5, but they have scored twice as many goals as the Habs.

As far as expected goals go, they represent a very encouraging split for Montreal. The Canadians have gained a considerable advantage and have controlled approximately 54% of the expected targets.

One reason behind the discrepancy in expected goals and shot share is that the Canadiens have done an excellent job of controlling high-danger chances, shooting 72% (18-7). Fortunately, they are doing a good job at controlling the chances, but the volume is not enough to compensate for their lack of shooting luck.

For the most part, whenever head coach Martin St-Louis puts the first line on the ice, John Cooper immediately counters with a Brandon Hagel, Anthony Cirelli and Jake Guentzel line, which has outscored the Habs 3-0 at 5v5.

Additionally, only one line has managed to control 50% of the shots, which is another team-wide concern. This is reduced by the overall share of high-quality scoring chances, which is reflected in expected goals.

To do that, they’ll have to rely on their first line to resume the dominance they showed on a nightly basis during the regular season, while also getting a little help from St. Louis, who will now have their last change as the series returns to the Bell Center.

The game between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders had some ups and downs… but most of them happened before the puck even dropped at UBS Arena.

On Monday, the Hurricanes recalled two players from the Chicago Wolves, Felix Unger Sorum – who was Chicago’s leading scorer, and Pyotr Kochetkov – the goaltender projected to miss the remainder of the season.

Then, on the morning of the game, defensemen Joel Nystrom and Ronan Seely were recalled.

Roster dilemma leads to emergency backup goaltender assignment

Two hours before the game, head coach Rod Brind’Amour spoke to the media and confirmed that all three skaters – and Kochetkov – would play against the Islanders. However, a monkey wrench was thrown into that plan less than an hour before puck drop.

Kochetkov was pulled from the ice shortly after warmups began, as it was then announced that he would not be able to start due to roster technicalities. Furthermore, the problem came with an additional issue, as Frederik Andersen was unavailable to play.

Thus, Long Island native Brandon Bussey took the crease for the second consecutive night. The emergency backup goaltender was 28-year-old Thomas Sullivan, who played seven games for nearby Stony Brook University between the ACHA’s 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons, and previously warmed the bench as an emergency goaltender for the Washington Capitals in a game against the Islanders during the 2022–23 season.

Early in the first period, Nikolaj Ehlers scored the Hurricanes’ first goal of the game, with the primary assist coming from Unger Sörum, making his second-inning of his NHL career. It was a good frame for the 20-year-old forward, who also hit the post on a shot from the right face-off circle. You could see he was enjoying the occasion too.

“It’s been really fun,” he said during the first intermission. “I’ve just been smiling all day, and just waiting for this moment, so it’s been really fun.”

To make the moment even more special for the young winger, he was joined in the stands by his family, who had traveled from Norway and Sweden.

“This is very special,” he said. “They’ve helped me a lot on my journey so far, and I have a lot to thank them for. So, it’s been really fun to have them visit here.”

In the second period, the Islanders went to work during a delayed penalty, with Bo Horvat finding the back of the net to hold the Hurricanes to 54 seconds, tying the game and scoring the 300th NHL goal of his career in the process. Additionally, the second assist came from Victor Eklund, younger brother of San Jose Sharks top-six forward William Eklund, in his NHL debut.

In the third period, Mark Jankowski scored the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. This proved to be the game-winner, as neither team was able to score after the Islanders pulled their goaltender.

A rare occurrence, the Hurricanes fell behind 29–21, but ultimately won 2–1.

No clear explanation was ever given regarding the roster issue other than a ‘roster technicality’. After the trade deadline, teams do not have a roster limit and are limited only by salary cap rules. Thus, the impression is created that this was merely a matter of paperwork.

With the Boston Bruins clinching the top Eastern Conference wild card with a 4–0 win over the New Jersey Devils, the Hurricanes are scheduled to face the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the playoffs.

Scoring their 113th point with the win over the Islanders, the Hurricanes finished second in the entire league, guaranteeing home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs over the top-place Colorado Avalanche.

During the third period, William Carrier took a blow to the face while on the bench. He left the game after some time.

Not only was Felix Unger Sorum’s family present during the game, but Ronan Seely’s father as well as Brandon Bussey’s family were also confirmed to be in attendance.

On Tuesday, it was the first time since April 13, 2023 that the Hurricanes finished the regular season with a win, when they defeated the Florida Panthers 6–4.

Nikolaj Ehlers was the only player to skate in all 82 games for the Hurricanes this season.

Why should the Florida Panthers bring back Sergei Bobrovsky?

Bobrovsky has struggled during the 2025–26 NHL season, posting a career-low .887 save percentage and allowing 3.07 goals per game. The 37-year-old goaltender has allowed 10 goals on 44 shots in his last two games against the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins. Despite his decline in play, Florida should bring Bobrovsky back next season.

While Bobrowski’s stats haven’t been great, the goaltender is on par with the players Florida puts on the ice every night. It’s been a tough season for the Panthers, who have dealt with significant injuries to Alexander Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, Brad Marchand, Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett and others.

The 40-year-old has been described as the “backbone” of the Panthers and the “biggest reason” the organization has two Stanley Cup rings. Bobrowski’s Florida teammates are fully behind him. With a better team on the ice during the 2026-27 NHL season, Bobrowski should have better overall statistics.

Backup goalie for Florida Daniil Tarasov has struggled with an .893 save percentage while allowing 3.12 goals per game. The stats aren’t bad for a backup goaltender, but Bobrowski is a proven option who can lead Florida to the Stanley Cup playoffs next year.

Since retirement is not in the picture, the Panthers should bring Bobrovsky back with a new contract this summer.

According to NHL.com, this was John Tortorella’s debut behind the Vegas bench since Bruce Cassidy was fired on Sunday, and the Golden Knights were in desperate need of some change.

Vegas had lost three in a row and six of seven, yet found enough life to rally after falling behind 1-0 and 2-1.

ESPN reported that the win kept the Golden Knights in third place in the Pacific, just one point behind Edmonton.

Canucks had some bite

I’ve seen enough Canucks losses this season to know this was a little different. Its bite was more. The team played with more edge and urgency than in most games since the Olympic break, even if by the end the result looked familiar. The effort was definitely better.

At 12:19 of the first period, Kane gave Vancouver a 1–0 lead on a clean backhand finish after being sent in by Jake DeBrusk on a 2-on-1. It was a nice moment.

After Vegas tied it on a Rasmus Andersen goal at 7:48 of the second, Brock Boeser responded by deflecting Filip Hronek’s point shot past Adin Hill on the power play at 12:17.

For a while, it looked like the Canucks might continue this for that period. He didn’t.

Then came the period which changed everything. Ivan Barbashev won the race for the puck and found him alone in the slot, after which Theodore made it 2–2 at 17:17, and Reilly Smith put Vegas ahead at 18:34 on a one-timer from the right circle.

The Golden Knights improved their play after the opening period, and the shot-attempt differential told the story better than the scoreboard for a long time, 67-33 in favor of Vegas. Kevin Lankinen had to be sharp to keep the Canucks close.

Adam Foote later said that Vancouver did not pull away, and Sportsnet quoted him as saying that the Canucks weathered the toughness of Vegas and competed all night.

Sportsnet also pointed to growing pains on the blue line, and one example was hard to ignore when Elias Pettersson Jr. misplayed a two-on-one, leading to Theodore’s goal. Young defenders sometimes learn by burning but it’s still sad to see it happen in real time.
