With the possibility of starting the year without their star player and Darius Slayton recovering from core muscle surgery, this interest has certainly increased.

At 33 years old, Odell Beckham Jr. won’t be the number one option on any team, but he’s still a solid route runner with reliable hands who could be a dependable replacement for Jackson Dart. It seems likely that if OBJ plays in 2026, it will be with Big Blue, as he has not been linked with any of the other 31 teams.

Give current veteran receivers a chance

One of the biggest priorities for New York this offseason was upgrading the receiver position. They accomplished this in free agency by signing Darnell Money and Kelvin Austin III to one-year contracts. They then traded three draft picks with the Cleveland Browns to move up and draft Malachi Fields with the 74 overall pick.^th Overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft

Although neither of them will be considered a true number one option in the passing game, their collection, along with tight end Isaiah, will be enough to keep the passing offense afloat until the Pro Bowl wideout is able to play.

The New York Giants’ offense will be their most physical unit this season with the addition of 300-pound fullback Patrick Rickard. Rickard will create running lanes for Cam Scatebo and Tyrone Jr. Additionally, that would make them one of the most efficient teams in low-yardage situations.

But the team could add a physical presence on the outside if it signs free agent wideout Deebo Samuel. Samuel played with the Washington Commanders last season and had 72 receptions for 727 receiving yards, with five touchdowns.

Samuel’s best attributes are his versatility, his running after the catch and his ability to break tackles. Although he is 30 years old and has missed a step, the six-foot, 215-pound receiver will make the offense even more physical than it currently is. If Harbaugh wants to add another physical playmaker, Samuel would be an excellent option.

Who will be the new head coach of the Edmonton Oilers? J Woodcroft? Craig Berube? Bruce Cassidy? Jessica Campbell?

The Oilers did what everyone expected and fired head coach Chris Knoblauch. Additionally, he relieved Mark Stuart of his coaching duties. Oilers general manager Stan Bowman issued a statement on May 14, making the move official.

“After a thorough review of last season, we believe these changes are needed,” Bowman wrote. “We are grateful for the contributions both Chris and Mark have made to our organization and we wish them all the best moving forward.”

Bob Stauffer teases profile of Oilers’ new head coach

Now that Knoblauch is out of the way, who will coach the Oilers? Oilers Now host (and team employee) Bob Stauffer offered fans a profile of who will be the Oilers’ new head coach when they eventually announce it.

“I believe the Edmonton Oilers will target an experienced head coach,” Stauffer wrote in a social media post. “With gravitas, who has a history of structure and process in his team’s play… and has won before!”

It’s not surprising that the Oilers management team is potentially leaning in this direction. But who fits the bill?

Craig Berube, Peter Laviolette and Cassidy all fit this profile. Here’s a brief summary of the three best candidates who fit Stauffer’s profile.

Teams trained: Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs.

Other: 10 years of head coaching experience.

Most recently, Berube served as the head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, a terrible regular season that ended with them winning the draft lottery brought an end to his tenure.

career coaching record: 1594 GP, 846-562-161, .589 points percentage

Stanley Cup: 1

Teams trained: New York Islanders, Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Nashville Predators, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers.

Other: 23 years of head coaching experience.

Laviolette most recently coached the New York Rangers. However, his most recent success came when he coached the Predators to the Western Conference championship in the 2016–17 season. Also, he doesn’t bring the same gravitas as Cassidy and Berube.

bruce cassidy

Career Coaching Record: 829 GP, 470-254-96, .630 points percentage

Stanley Cup: 1

Teams trained: Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Vegas Golden Knights.

Other: Jack Adams Trophy winner (2019-20) and 12 years of head coaching experience.

Cassidy is considered the favorite for this post. He also fits the bill in terms of the system, the process and the championship pedigree.

With the head coaching position officially vacant, more should emerge about potential candidates who may be interested.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton recently acknowledged that under Bo Nix, his team has recovered from the broken ankle that kept them out of the AFC Conference Championship. Nix’s injury provides the perfect excuse for Coach Payton to create more competition for the backup QB job in Denver after Jarrett Stidham completed only 54.8% of his passes for 133 yards, a TD and an INT in the team’s playoff loss.

The only other QB on the Broncos’ roster is Sam Ehlinger. But the 2021 sixth-round pick hasn’t thrown an NFL pass with the Colts since 2022. So, if the Broncos want more capable competition behind Nix to help establish their offense, who could Peyton go to coach? Here are four possible solutions.

jimmy garoppolo

Still unsigned and reportedly considering retirement at the age of 34, Garoppolo has been tasked with backing up 2025 NFL MVP Matthew Stafford for the past two seasons. Like the Knicks, Jimmy G does not have a very strong arm, and his top priority is keeping the ball out of harm’s way. He is also a proven winner, having led his team to two Super Bowl appearances. Until the Knicks get back to 100% in Denver, he feels like an ideal bridge QB.

Will Lewis

After the Titans selected Cam Ward No. 1 overall, Lewis will still be only 27 when the season starts. He was sidelined with a shoulder injury last season, but is now back at 100% and likely yearns for a change of scenery. Learning from Coach Payton could provide a springboard for the former second-rounder’s career, and the Titans would likely be willing to trade him as a backup to Mitchell Trubisky.

Anthony Richardson

Would the Broncos be willing to take a low-risk gamble on a highly talented prospect with injury concerns? Richardson is by far the most talented QB available, but the Broncos will have to find fair trade compensation for the former No. 4 overall pick. Still, having a high-potential developmental prospect on hand would be a fun project for the Broncos.

Russell Wilson

Will he really come back? It depends on how desperate Wilson is for another NFL opportunity. He is said to be considering TV job offers and even a contract from the Jets. Still, if Wilson wants a chance to join another Super Bowl contender, he may view the Broncos as a job too good to turn down. He’ll certainly bring a competitive spirit to practice until the Knicks rally the troops.

This time last year, gold medal-winning boxer and pound-for-pound superstar Vasiliy Lomachenko capped off his impressive run while competing in the sweet science. The Ukrainian went out on a high note with a knockout win over George Kambosos Jr. in his last fight, and at the age of 37, it looked like his decision would hold after losing two of his last six. Well, that didn’t happen.

On Tuesday, Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger reported that the three-division champion intends to return to the sport this fall, and that he will not compete in a tune-up bout. He wants to jump into the deep end of the pool and is looking for a big money fight.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at four potential opponent options for Lomachenko’s next fight.

shakur stevenson

The scrap many fight fans will be hoping for is a matchup with, arguably, the toughest puzzle in the sport at the moment, Shakur Steveson. The 28-year-old has excelled on his way to a 25-0 record and has become one of the most sought-after fighters in boxing.

If the former lightweight champion is looking for a big name and a bigger challenge to return from retirement, there is no better option at lightweight or junior welterweight.

Teofimo Lopez became a star in the sport when he scored a stunning decision win over Lomachenko in 2020. It was a defeat the future Hall of Famer never had to avenge. Having suffered defeat against Stevenson in January, a rematch with the Ukrainian would be risky. However, a second win over “High Tech”, even at the age of 38, would one day strengthen his own HOF case.

Ending his retirement to get one back – something he has yet to do for any of his three losses – would be an interesting story as well as a great fight.

Raymond Muratalla

Another interesting option for Vasiliy Lomachenko’s comeback fight would be a scrap with the best fighter at lightweight not named Shakur Stevenson, Raymond Muratalla. The 29-year-old is 24-0 and holds the IBF title after defeating Andy Cruz in January.

It would be no surprise to see Lomachenko jump into title contention immediately, potentially setting up a unification bout with Stevenson early next year.

Naoya Inoue

Although it is unlikely, fight fans would love to see a dream fight between Vasiliy Lomachenko and current pound-for-pound star Naoya Inoue. After moving to 33-0 with a decision win over Junto Nakatani this month, there’s really not much else to do around that weight class for the unified junior featherweight king.

At the age of 33, when he is at the peak of his powers, he has to look for bigger opportunities to make money. Would the 122-pound star be willing to move up to 130, and would Lomachenko be willing to move down to make the fight? This is something both men should consider.

The New York Jets know who will be their starting quarterback in 2026. Still, as he experienced last season, just because a starter is in place doesn’t mean he’ll retain that QB1 role all year.

After all, Geno Smith is 35 years old, and he’s coming off a season where he led the NFL with 17 interceptions. The results are not guaranteed to be better than last year, when the Jets finished tied with Smith’s former team for the worst record in football at 3–14.

For now, the Jets have Smith as the starter, fourth-round Clemson rookie Cade Klubnik as a developmental backup and a potential long-term solution. Brady Cook, an undrafted rookie free agent signee from 2025, is the third QB in New York. Bailey Jappe, a 27-year-old former fourth-round pick, is the other QB on the roster, but there is no guarantee that Cook and/or Jappe will still have a roster spot by the time of the camp break.

Also, after recently offering Russell Wilson a contract, it’s clear the Jets are still looking to add depth to their quarterback room. While Wilson is considering a contract offer with the Jets along with other career opportunities, the Jets may have to turn elsewhere. So, which quarterback should the Jets consider to support and/or push Smith?

Russell Wilson

The obvious connection, Wilson has already visited the Jets, and he presumably still has a place to live in New York after playing for the Giants last season. Additionally, it has long been rumored that he and his wife Ciara prefer the New York area. If Wilson wants to continue playing football, it doesn’t really matter how much the Jets are willing to offer. Plus, there’s a good chance he’ll get a chance to play at some point, as it’s not like the Jets are expected to be competitive. The question is, do the Jets want someone who has more long-term upside?

Also rumored to be considering retirement after spending the last two seasons as Matthew Stafford’s backup, Garoppolo will turn 35 in November. Still, if he still wants to cash some checks without too much risk, why not sign up with the Jets and make a few million more dollars? The two-time Super Bowl winner’s 12 years of experience will certainly be valuable to the younger players, including rookie Klubnik.

josh dobbs

Although Dobbs does not have long-term starting potential, he has proven that he is capable of playing even on short notice. The 31-year-old is as talented as they come, but he’s also a little light on experience, with only 15 NFL starts to his name. He only appeared in four games with the Patriots last season, but Dobbs has shown he can move chains with his legs and arm.

Anthony Richardson

The Jets probably don’t want to give up any draft compensation, knowing this is not a team that is ready to compete right away. However, with Aaron Glenn clearly on the hot seat after three win seasons, they may feel a strong sense of urgency in New York. In that case, why not take a chance on a 23-year-old QB with superstar potential? Richardson could be everything the Jets are looking for; He still needs more development.

Will Lewis

Since the Titans have Cam Ward, former second-round pick Will Lewis is also slated to play after missing last year with a shoulder injury. Will Lewis

Will Lewis has been largely forgotten about since the Tennessee Titans made Cam Ward the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Will Lewis was a guy who once showed a lot of promise. The 33rd overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft is still just 26 years old, and he has as dynamic an arm as any other option. He also has great size, 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. Lewis hasn’t been accurate enough, but after spending last season on injured reserve following a shoulder injury, we would expect him to be extremely eager to get back on the field and compete. Couldn’t possibly get anything more than a fifth-round pick.

Davis Mills

When CJ Stroud missed three games due to injury, he got a chance to showcase his skills, Mills led the Houston Texans to three inspiring wins. As the Texans’ franchise QB struggled, some even wondered if the 27-year-old former third-round pick should replace Stroud. Given how much he helped the Texans last season, Houston might be hesitant to part ways with him. Still, given that Mills is in the final year of his contract, a trade wouldn’t cost anything more than a third-day pick.

JJ McCarthy

The Vikings will never admit it, but they may be ready to move on from JJ McCarthy, the 10th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Otherwise, the Vikings would not have brought in such a proven player as Kyler Murray, who could now be the team’s franchise QB. McCarthy’s NFL career got off to a rough start after missing his entire rookie season due to a knee injury, but the former first-round pick also displayed elite leadership qualities while making some clutch plays. The question is, are the Steelers willing to put their entire season on the shoulders of a 23-year-old with 10 career starts?

Anthony Richardson

A player who has displayed superstar potential with a rocket arm and electric athleticism, can Anthony Richardson put it all together, become consistently more accurate while staying healthy? He plays with a reckless demeanor that will cause a stir in the locker room, but it can also hurt a player who has been healthy for just 17 games over the last three seasons. Either way, the Steelers will be cognizant of the star potential of the 23-year-old former No. 4 overall pick, but they will also need a trade.

Jacoby Brissett

Did Jacoby Brissett experience a career renaissance last season at age 33? This is an interesting question. While he only led the Arizona Cardinals to a 1–11 record, Brissett completed 64.9% of his passes for a career-high 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 12 starts. Can that drama be replicated elsewhere in the new system? Brissett is at odds with the Cardinals after requesting a pay raise from his $4.8 million salary set in 2026. After Arizona signed Gardner Minshew and selected Carson Beck in the third round, Brissett could potentially be available for a third-day draft pick in 2027.

With Jacen Dart set to reprise his role as the primary backup QB in 2026, there is a possibility that Jameis Winston could be acquired for the right price. The former No. 1 overall pick has shown that he fits in excellently in any locker room, but he’s also quite capable. Now 32 years old, Winston has not only matured, he still has one of the strongest arms in the NFL, who will play well on the outside in Pittsburgh.

The former first-round pick wore out his welcome early in New England, but Mac Jones has turned his career around since getting the chance to play for Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers. He was a key component in helping the 49ers return to the playoffs, leading them to a 5–3 record, completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions. If the Steelers feel the 28-year-old can maintain his play soon, they could look to find their long-term starter with a Day 2 pick in 2027.

Russell Wilson

Also considering retirement so he could become the latest athlete to cash in on a lucrative career in NFL broadcasting, we’d imagine Russell Wilson will be the starting quarterback this year instead. However, the Steelers are already here with Wilson. Did they step forward only because they believed Rodgers was an innovative person? Was there a disagreement with coach Mike Tomlin, or did Wilson no longer want to be there? Still an unsigned free agent, the Steelers may not feel like they have any other options, and barring a trade, Wilson is the best player available.

Retired, Derek Carr was reportedly interested in returning to the NFL this season if he could join a playoff contender. We’d argue the Steelers meet that criteria. However, if he did not retire, he would still be under contract with the New Orleans Saints. However, since they are moving on with Tyler Shaw, it’s possible the Saints will release Carr and allow him to play football again, or perhaps even trade him for a Day 2 or Day 3 pick.

The Orlando Magic rumors became reality Monday morning. After blowing a 3-1 lead in their first-round playoff series against the 1-seed Detroit Pistons and being eliminated from the postseason on Sunday, the organization fired head coach Jamahl Mosley.

There has been speculation for months that the 47-year-old was on thin ice. Winning the series would have almost sealed the comeback. However, not only did the Magic blow a 3–1 lead, they were eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs for the third consecutive year. This was the last straw for management, and Mosley is out after posting a 189–221 record and reaching the postseason three times during his five seasons in Orlando.

With the Magic now looking for a new head coach, we present six replacement options, including the head coach of college basketball’s defending champions.

What many new NBA fans may not realize is that the former Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls head coach actually accepted the job as head coach of the Magic in 2007. However, he surprisingly backed out of the agreement to stay in Florida and remained there for eight more seasons before moving to the NBA.

However, after stepping down as Bulls coach last month, he is back on the market and would be an interesting option. While his time in Chicago was mostly disappointing, he had good success in OKC and became a legend in the college ranks after winning two Nationals. He will likely be on Orlando’s candidate list.

Sam Cassell

Sam Cassel had a really good 15-year career as a player, winning three NBA championships. But since 2009, he has built a strong reputation as a top assist during several stops, including with the Los Angeles Clippers and currently the Boston Celtics.

For many years, he has been viewed as someone who is worthy of the head coaching job, and it is only a matter of time before a franchise finally gives him a chance. He should definitely be considered for Orlando.

Michigan head coach Dusty Mays is on top of the college basketball world after leading the program to its first championship in nearly 40 years. His stock in the industry has never been higher, especially since he did it with smart team building through zero market.

Maybe that’s why Mark Stein reports that he has fans inside the Magic’s front office who would like to talk to him if possible. However, an NBA insider says, “The expectation at this point in the college game is that May will stay with the Wolverines after winning everything in March”.

Mika Nori

Another top assistant who has been linked to multiple head coaching jobs over the past few years is Minnesota Timberwolves assistant, Micah Nouri. He’s been learning on an NBA bench for 17 seasons and with five different teams. Of the various assistants in the game, there is none more prepared and respected than Nori.
