The Detroit Red Wings need to make big changes and rumors are already flying. Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman clearly stated in the post-season conference call that the team needed better players to advance in the Stanley Cup playoffs. In fact, one NHL insider has an idea for Detroit in a potential trade this summer.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman believes the Red Wings should focus on St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington during the offseason, according to an insider on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. Friedman didn’t think John Gibson and Cam Talbot were problems, but would represent a potential upgrade.

Binnington was the starting goaltender for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, leading them to a silver medal. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old goaltender struggled to perform in St. Louis, posting an .873 save percentage and allowing 3.33 goals per game. Although the statistics were not good, Binnington is still a good goaltender.

Prior to his struggles during the 2025–26 NHL season, Binnington had two campaigns with a save percentage over .900 and fewer than 2.9 goals allowed per game. When it matters most, the St. Louis goaltender shows up, as he did in the 2026 Olympics and his last two appearances in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

There are a few things that can stop a potential deal. Detroit’s system has a plethora of highly regarded goaltender prospects. With top prospects Sebastian Cosa and Trey Augustin on the sidelines, the organization may be more willing to ride with Gibson again and show patience.

After all, the Red Wings have other areas of need, including an elite forward and a new bottom six. For now, it’s an interesting idea, but Binnington may not need it.

Sunny Mehta already has the option to pick up the phone and negotiate a potential New Jersey Devils trade and improve his top six.

After failing to make the playoffs for the 10th consecutive season, the Detroit Red Wings are now the longest-serving team to miss the postseason after the Buffalo Sabers punched their ticket this spring.

Expressing his disappointment with Steve Yzerman declaring a disappointing season, he described the Red Wings as “needing better players” and said that no one in the organization is untouched.

“We will certainly look at any ways we can improve our team to take the next step,” Yzerman said. “Definitely ready to do that. We’re absolutely ready to do that.”

While it’s unclear what direction Detroit’s GM will choose to go this summer, the Red Wings certainly have some players that would benefit New Jersey in a potential Devils trade.

In his introductory press conference, Mehta explained that he wanted to “make smart, objective and educated decisions… again and again, again and again.”

He later clarified that although he has a background in analytics as a former professional poker player, stock trader, and NHL executive, he finds value in blending analytics with his hockey knowledge.

“The reason I ever cared about analytics, statistical probability, is because it helped me win. It helped me win in poker. It helped me win on the trading floor, and it helped me win in hockey. And that’s why I care about it.

“And blending, of course, is important in the same way as in poker it’s not just the numbers. You have to get a feel for your opponent. You have to understand the subjectivity of bluffing. And, you have to understand psychology. And the same is true in trading, right? You have to have a feel for the markets. You have to understand how news affects things, how subjectivity and human emotions affect things.”

So, who can the Devils target in Detroit to improve their roster?

Who is better than Alex DeBrincat for goals?

DeBrincat is the Red Wings’ leading goal scorer over the past two seasons, with 41 and 39 goals respectively. 2025-26 was the third time in the 28-year-old’s nine-year career that he reached or surpassed the 40-goal mark. He has also scored more than 30 goals in five seasons in his career.

DeBrincat scores in a lot of different ways. He can finish off the rush, shoot from a different zone on offense, he scored 15 power play goals last season, and added eight assists on the man advantage.

DeBrincat is coming off a career-best 85-point season, which will certainly increase his trade value.

However, the Devils have assets to deal with.

DeBrincat – a regular running-back with Patrick Kane – would ultimately be a strong fit next to Devils stars Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt to complete that line.

He has one year remaining on his contract in 2026-27 with $7.875 million before a new contract becomes due next summer.

The Devils need to score more goals and that’s what DeBrincat does best.

If the Devils want a younger option, Mehta could target Lucas Raymond.

One of the criticisms of Raymond in 2025–26 was that he needed to shoot more. Nevertheless, he scored 25 goals on 173 shots – a shooting percentage of 14.5%.

In four of Raymond’s five seasons in the NHL, he has scored 20 or more goals. In 2023–24, Raymond scored a career-high 31 goals, and the following season scored a career-high 80 points.

Raymond is a skilled all-around forward who should be spending a little more time in the prime years of his career at the age of 24.

On the downside, Raymond was trusted as the driver of his line, rather than being a complimentary piece next to Hughes or Bratt.

The Devils have assets to deal with, their first-round selection Simon Nemec and perhaps one of their young rising forward players, Lenny Haminaho.

Raymond is heading into a third, very favorable eight-year contract with a cap hit of $8.075 million.

The Boston Red Sox have been one of the biggest disappointments in Major League Baseball this season, entering Friday’s game with the worst record in the American League. The Red Sox lineup has been the primary problem, raising questions about outfielder Jaren Duran’s future with the team.

Robert Murray of FanSided.com wrote that Duran has long been a target of San Diego Padres general manager AJ Preller and would have interest in the league. While Duran could also benefit from a change of scenery, Murray doubts Boston will move him this summer.

Duran, age 29, earned an All-Star selection in 2024. He finished that campaign with 21 home runs, 14 triples, 75 RBI and a .834 OPS with a .285/.342/.492 triple-slash line. Last season he still managed to hit 16 home runs and 13 triples with 84 RBI and a .774 OPS.

However, he has been in a long-term bearish trend since September 2025. Over his last 187 plate appearances, Duran has hit 26.2 percent of his plate appearances with a .216/.283/.345 triple-slash line.

According to Baseball Savant, in terms of his advanced numbers, he ranks in the 2nd percentile for whiff rate (39.6 percent), in the 20th percentile for chase rate (25.1 percent), and he is in the 23rd percentile for expected batting average (.219). He’s still an excellent base runner who is a plus defensively (80th percentile above average), but he has shown no signs of getting back to form at the plate.

Boston would rather sell him for an all-time low than his trade value, and given his history, the club is more inclined to retain him and hope for a change. However, if the Red Sox are unable to dig themselves out of this hole by the beginning of July, multiple teams will likely inquire about Duran before the MLB trade deadline.

A new report suggests that the failed trade from March played a major role in the New York Giants and Cincinnati Bengals completing the Dexter Lawrence deal earlier than expected.

On Thursday night, the Giants had not one, but two picks in the top 10 of the NFL Draft. Of course, he was selected at No. 5 after a poor 4-13 performance last season. But they added the 10th overall selection after completing the long-rumored trade of tackle Dexter Lawrence last week.

The three-time Pro Bowler wanted a big pay raise despite having a season left on the extension he signed a few years ago. The veterans were no longer interested in granting his request after a year of decline, and both parties realized that a divorce was necessary. Luckily for Big Blue, the Bengals were willing to give up a premium pick in Round 1 for his services.

However, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Giants fans did not learn about the second pick until Thursday night.

Florio suggests that the likely plan was to complete a deal during Round 1. However, the Bengals did not want to risk giving up the 10th pick without being completely sure Lawrence was fully healthy.

Last month, the Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens agreed to a blockbuster deal that will see the five-time Pro Bowler swapped for a trade package that included two first-round picks. However, shortly after reports surfaced about a deal, the Ravens’ medical staff did not like what they saw following a physical and advised the team to void the deal.

Ime Udoka’s comments following the Houston Rockets’ loss in Game 3 of the series against the Los Angeles Lakers fueled recent speculation that the team could trade young star Alpern Sengun this summer.

The Rockets’ 2025-26 campaign is on the verge of a stunning finish. They entered the year with serious NBA Finals expectations after acquiring future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant. But Houston finished fifth in the conference. Still, they were fortunate in a first-round playoff matchup against a Lakers team without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.

However, after a bad loss on Friday night, where they blew a huge lead in the final minute of regulation, the Rockets advanced to Game 4 on Sunday by a 3–0 margin. After the loss, Houston head coach Ime Udoka was asked about their Game 3 collapse, and his opinion was surprising.

“Terrible mistakes. I don’t know whether you want to say young or scared of the moment,” Udoka said in his post-game press conference.

His comments were honest but also very interesting, as they seem to confirm why Alpern Sengun could be on the trade block this summer.

“It’s no exaggeration to say that Sengun has been one of the biggest disappointments in this year’s playoffs – not just in Houston, but among all postseason teams.”

While the two-time All-Star played much better in Game 3, posting 33 points, 16 rebounds, and was +10 when he was on the floor, he couldn’t carry his team across the finish line in a very winnable game at home. It added to his reputation that he couldn’t do it under a bright spotlight for a franchise with championship aspirations.

The team was willing to give up Jalen Green despite notable development in order to trade Durant, with Guillory speculating that Sengun could easily be added to a winning proposal in a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo or Donovan Mitchell in the offseason.

While Udoka didn’t specifically call out Seungun, he was one of the guys who was scared at the moment, and that doesn’t bode well for his long-term prospects in H-Town.

If the Houston Rockets are surprisingly eliminated by the Los Angeles Lakers in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, a new report suggests young star Alpern Sengun will be added to the trade package in a blockbuster deal this summer.

Entering the 2025–26 season, the Rockets were viewed as a real threat to the defending champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and with good reason. A year ago, they took a huge leap under head coach Ime Udoka as their young core showed real promise and they had an elite defense. Adding future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant to the mix seemed like a championship recipe.

However, as the year progressed, the Rockets failed to live up to expectations and questions of poor chemistry have emerged over the past few months. To open the playoffs, it looked like they had a matchup against a Lakers team without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Nevertheless, they enter Game 3 of the series losing 2–0.

If they get eliminated in the first round again this year, there will definitely be roster changes. It would be wise to move on from Durant before he turns 38 in September. It seems like the experiment failed. However, according to William Guillory of The Athletic, there is a real possibility that Alpern Sengun could be used in a blockbuster trade for a top star to pair with Durant next season.

This is due to their up-and-down play in the second half of the season, and non-existent play in the first two games of their series against the Lakers. Jeanty will undoubtedly still be the starter, but having a veteran like Connor, who has had to work tirelessly to earn and keep his role, could be invaluable to a young athlete like Jeanty.

Javonte Williams is the Cowboys’ lead back after a 1,200-yard season. But after that? There are some deep questions in Dallas. Heading into this week’s draft, there are an unusual amount of trade rumors flying around this year’s event. This provides franchises with a chance to acquire better players than they originally expected in the teens and 20s.

According to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Lions are “making trade calls” ahead of Round 1 tonight, and he added that “some teams are looking at Detroit as a trade-up threat.” However, it was unclear what the team that failed to make the playoffs in 2025 might be looking for that they couldn’t find when they were at pick 17.

A new rumor has opened the door for the San Francisco 49ers or Kansas City Chiefs to land a Pro Bowl-level wide receiver, which they could actually use tonight during Round 1 of the NFL Draft.

Heading into this week’s NFL Draft, there has been an unusual amount of trade-related talk. With this year’s quarterback class being weak, teams ranked in the top 10 are more willing to trade down and acquire more draft assets this year or next.

There are four teams with late picks in Round 1 who would be interesting to see give up their selection for a one-time Pro Bowl. Those franchises are the San Francisco 49ers (Pick 27), Kansas City Chiefs (Pick 29), Buffalo Bills (Pick 26), and New England Patriots (Pick 31).

The Chiefs targeting Thomas Jr. makes sense as they also have the ninth pick on Thursday night, and are in desperate need of a legitimate receiver. In Kansas City, Thomas could bring the Chiefs’ offense back to the dominant power it was at the beginning of their dynasty.

With Brandon Aiyuk’s future in San Francisco in jeopardy, the 49ers giving up their only first-rounder for Thomas Jr. would be a smart decision. They might be waiting for this perfect opportunity before officially releasing the receiver.

The Bills and Patriots both have fits for Thomas Jr. However, a pair of AFC East teams heavily linked to an AJ Brown trade may hold their pick and wait until the Philadelphia Eagles star officially hits the open market, which is rumored to be after June 1.

Available after 2025, Thomas Jr. has shown he is not a good fit for head coach Liam Coen’s attack. In his rookie season, he earned Pro Bowl honors (1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns) and has a very affordable contract for the next two years.

George Pickens’ future in Dallas is no longer a sure thing. After quieting his doubters and improving his reputation with a breakout season for the Cowboys in 2025, owner and general manager Jerry Jones insisted for weeks that locking up the receiver to a long-term deal was inevitable. Well, that can’t happen now.

On Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter claimed in an episode Rise That “They’re nowhere with George Pickens at this point. Nowhere. They’re not really talking about an extension.” Later in the day, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones told Dallas media, “There will be no negotiations on a long-term deal,” and the pass catcher will play on his $27.3 million franchise tag next season.

This has led to much speculation that the team may consider moving Pickens during the NFL Draft, specifically in Round 1. If he makes that bold move, let’s take a look at five teams that could acquire the player who posted 93 catches, 1,429 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2025.

Arizona Cardinals

There’s a lot of talk that Dallas would prefer to move up to No. 3 and select David Bailey or Arvel Reese — or whoever the New York Jets don’t take at No. 2. Either could be a long-term solution to fill the gap left in the pass rush after trading Micah Parsons last year.

However, some question whether the ‘Guys, giving up their picks at Nos. 12 and 20, will be tempting to the Arizona Cardinals. But if they offer Pickens and the No. 20 pick as well as the third-day pick, it could be enough. While the Cards have a messy QB situation, the combo of Pickens and Marvin Harrison Jr. will be good weapons for their signal-caller in 2026 and beyond.

New York Jets

The Cowboys could also try to move up to No. 2 as rumors have been swirling for weeks that the Jets are willing to trade down.

New York coach Aaron Glenn is feeling a lot of pressure to perform better in 2026 or he may be fired. They have high expectations for veteran QB Geno Smith. So getting another big weapon like Pickens could potentially lead to a drastic change in the offense next season. Dallas could benefit from Glenn’s frustration and get whoever they want at No. 2.

The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to take another big step forward in Year 2 under head coach Jim Harbaugh. They lack a game-breaker receiver in 2025. If Pickens were acquired he could help elevate them into a true Super Bowl contender. Due to the impact Pickens can have on offensive coordinator Mike McDaniels’ system, LA may be willing to drop their pick at 22 for the receiver and give him an extension to serve as Justin Herbert’s WR1 for years to come.

Los Angeles Rams

At the beginning of the offseason, the Los Angeles Rams showed they were fully prepared to finish their Super Bowl story when they gave up the No. 29 pick in Round 1 to the Kansas City Chiefs for All-Pro Trent McDuffie. Reports linked him to a possible trade for Philadelphia Eagles star AJ Brown last month. However, they backed out of a deal.

Would LA be willing to give up their pick at 13 in Round 1 for Pickens? Probably not. So far, ever since the New England Patriots lost in Super Bowl LX, we’ve seen general manager Eliot Wolf make radical changes to the team’s receiving corps. But are they better than before?

Stefon Diggs has been let go (and has yet to sign anywhere else). The Patriots have replaced him with Romeo Dobbs on a $68 million contract. But Dobbs, who has played four seasons, has never gone above 750 yards in a year. However, he finished with a career-high 724 yards passing with the Packers.

Nevertheless, the Patriots may still want to upgrade their group of pass-catchers, and those around the NFL expect New England to do so via trade.

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Patriots are “likely” to trade for AJ Brown from the Eagles. But not until after June 1, when they will be allowed to spread the Browns’ dead salary cap charge over two seasons instead of taking the $40 million penalty in 2026.

While the Patriots and Eagles have more than a month to work out the specifics of a potential Browns trade, others believe there may already be a verbal agreement between the two teams. Or, the Eagles could still hope another team comes along with an even stronger offer than the one New England is making for the four-time Pro Bowl receiver.

If traded to New England, Brown would be reunited with Mike Vrabel, who was his head coach on the Titans from 2019 to 2021. Suddenly, the receiving tandem of Brown and Dobbs looks better than New England’s top two pass-catchers did last season, when it was just Diggs and Hunter Henry, who were second on the team with 768 receiving yards. Henry is still under contract through 2026.

In less than a week, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch will be busy adding youth to his roster through the 2026 NFL Draft. But the 49ers only have six selections, no selections in the third round, and zero selections after the fourth round. San Francisco doesn’t even pick until No. 27.

Still, Lynch will have options to add to his draft capital. This may include considering business declines. Or, possibly trading one of the players on their roster, such as Brandon Aiyuk, or a recent draft pick.

Recently, ESPN’s 49ers insider Nick Wagner reported that San Francisco could be open to dealing cornerback Renardo Green, who is the 64th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. While other teams may be inquiring about the 25-year-old cornerback, San Francisco may still be confident in his long-term prospects.

“One name that has been linked to the trade market in free agency for the San Francisco 49ers this year is cornerback Renardo Green,” Wagner said on ESPN.com. “But despite potential trade discussion coming from the outside, both Shanahan and general manager John Lynch said there was nothing to it. The team did not want to trade Green, and they still believe he has a bright future in San Francisco. It’s worth noting that Green is entering an important third year. He’s a former second-round pick, so this will be his first opportunity to potentially sign a contract extension after this season. The Niners need him to make fewer mental errors. Will need a bounce-back year. I want to keep him for a long time.

The 49ers could use more playmakers in the secondary, yet they may have one lying in the weeds in Green. Many players make the jump to a third year after two full offseasons in the NFL. After months of evaluation and debate, the 2026 NFL Draft will finally begin with the first round of the event on April 23. The Arizona Cardinals have the third overall pick in the first round, and there is a lot of mystery over what direction general manager Monty Ossenfort is going with.

The Cardinals could take an offensive tackle, but with Paris Johnson solidified on the left side, selecting a right tackle looks like going No. 3. The pass-rusher needs to be in the game, but the Cardinals are already committed to a $76 million contract with Josh Sweat, though he could certainly use help on the other side.

Meanwhile, there has also been talk of the Cardinals being open to a trade in the fall, where they would have a great opportunity to address multiple needs for a team with no identity, or even a starting quarterback for 2026.

According to NFL insider Tony Pauline of Essential Sports, the Cardinals “want an edge rusher with the third pick, which will likely mean David Bailey if he goes ahead of the Jets.” Poulin adds that “Ossenfort will consider moving to the bottom of Round 1 and drafting quarterback Ty Simpson if the opportunity arises.”

Simpson being selected in the first round will come as a draft day surprise, but it’s not too far off from his projections as a second-round selection. Additionally, QBs are often selected ahead of projections, and in a year where Simpson may be viewed as the only other starting-caliber option as a rookie outside of Fernando Mendoza, it makes sense for the Cardinals to make sure they get their guy.

For now, the Cardinals have seven draft selections, one in each round. This includes No. 3, No. 32, and No. 65. Chances are, at least one of those picks will be used on a QB, and it won’t be No. 3.

We’ve already seen a big trade this week, with the New York Giants shipping Pro Bowl DT Dexter Lawrence to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the 10th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Could the Kansas City Chiefs be close to pulling off another blockbuster with a top-10 pick?

The Chiefs already have the ninth and 29th overall picks in the first round of the draft, but they are reportedly trying to move into the top five.

According to Johnny Venerable of PHNX, the Arizona Cardinals have been in contact with the Chiefs, and are discussing a trade that would send the third overall pick in the first round to Kansas City. Reverend’s suggestion is for the Chiefs to send the No. 9 plus changes to Arizona in exchange for the No. 3, then Kansas City will target the top pass-rusher available.

“Sources tell PHNX Cardinals that Osenfort has already engaged in early trade discussions with GM Brett Veach and the Kansas City Chiefs,” Venerable wrote. “The Chiefs, who have the ninth overall pick, will likely target the top available pass rusher in Texas Tech’s David Bailey or Ohio State’s Arvel Reese. While early trade details are unclear, the NFL Trade Value Chart projects that pick #3 is worth around $2200, while pick #9 is worth #1350.”

The Cardinals had the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft before moving up to the No. 12 pick and selecting left tackle Paris Johnson. The Cardinals will again be looking to trade down and select another offensive tackle to help stabilize their line. The last time they went down from 3, the Cardinals acquired a future first pick in addition to the 34th pick, a fifth-round selection and the No. 12 overall pick.

If Kansas City can make a deal like this, the price will definitely be different this time, as no two draft picks are alike.

The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots have been linked for months in NFL rumors regarding a potential AJ Brown trade. Although talks appear to be slowing down, this is because an agreement has already been reached between the two parties.

On this week’s episode of the Football 301 podcast, Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice said he’s spoken to three people around the league, who all agree that a deal has already been agreed upon between New England and Philadelphia.

“I have three different people … I’m not the source person, but three people just say something because I’ve talked to people who are with teams, they’ve all told me it looks like the trades after June 1 are pretty much done. I’m not trying to break news here, but I think everyone agrees here.”

Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice on a potential AJ Brown trade

There’s one more thing worth noting here, as noted by Matt Harmon on Football 301. Jimmy Kempski of The Philly Voice reported last week that some within the Eagles organization believe wide receiver DeVonta Smith can make a statistical leap similar to what Jackson Smith-Njigba did with the Seattle Seahawks last season.

As Harmon noted, this is the second time the Eagles have told reporters they are confident Smith could have excelled in the No. 1 receiver role had Brown been playing elsewhere. While the team’s public comments about a potential trade have always played down the rumors, leaks about the organization’s confidence in Smith suggest there is some preparation for a world where he is the team’s No. 1 pass-catcher.

There’s also the fact that Philadelphia recently acquired wide receiver Dontavian Wicks from the Green Bay Packers. Wicks came into the Packers system while Sean Mannion, now the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, worked in Green Bay as an offensive assistant (2024) and quarterbacks coach (2025).

So, the reporting has made it pretty clear that the Eagles have a lot of confidence in the Smith-Wicks receiver duo next season, with Hollywood Brown serving as the No. 3 receiver. All of these signs seem to indicate that Philadelphia has already prepared itself to operate an offense without Brown with the team.

Of course, no trade can realistically be made until after the 2026 NFL Draft. If Brown is traded before June 1, the Eagles will be stuck with a dead cap hit of $43.515 million, with the move costing them an immediate $20.121 million in cap space for the upcoming season.

However, if a trade is announced after June 1, according to Spotrac.com, the Eagles would have $7.04 million in cap savings this season, with Brown’s dead cap hit spread over the 2026 ($16.353 million) and 2027 ($27.161 million) seasons.

All of that information combined would add credibility to the belief around the league that the Eagles and Patriots may already have a deal in place for Brown. Although there won’t be any announcement anytime soon, it would be a big surprise now if Brown suited up for the Eagles in Week 1, rather than being on the field for the Patriots.

According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon and Michael C. Wright, the Kings were one of a select few teams involved in talks with Memphis before the NBA trade deadline. However, Sacramento wanted Memphis to include a first-round pick in any deal.

Miami is an organization that thinks long term. Antetokounmpo will be looking for an even bigger contract over the next few years while on a career decline. While Morant needs fixing, he has the potential to be a big star and a core member of their team for the next decade. He feels like he is a better fit for them.

Breyer believes Moore could be available for the equivalent of a third-day draft pick. If so, the Cowboys could get the former Pro Bowl cornerback at a fraction of the normal cost.

Cornerback is one of the positions commonly targeted by Cowboys mock drafts. Still, with this trade, Dallas may not feel as much urgency to address the position at the top of the draft and may feel more comfortable circling back to upgrade the secondary later in the selection process.

If Moore can indeed be a third-day draft selection, we would imagine he would generate a lot of interest. After all, teams, especially contenders, can never have too many capable cornerbacks.

So far, nothing has been closed. And until something really hits the wire, it’s business as usual in Foxboro. That said, if Philly does open the door to a trade the Patriots are one of the most logical landing spots.

League conversations suggest it could be a later game after June 1, primarily to optimize the cap hit. But don’t rule out a pre-draft shocker either. With the NFL Draft coming up in late April, a move like this would immediately shake up the board and reset the WR market in a big way.

Patriots left the door open for AJ Brown

It wasn’t exactly shocking when AJ Brown came out during Monday’s press conference with Eliot Wolf — but if you were expecting a straight answer, you were reading the wrong playbook.

Wolf kept it in classic front-office mode: non-committal, doors open, nothing on the record. As Doug Kydd shared on X, Wolf said, “Patriots EVP Eliot Wolf when asked about AJ Brown: “As far as players on other teams, we’ll keep the door open to anything that we think can improve our roster, whether it’s with the player you mentioned or with other players.”

It’s no surprise that Wolf has avoided commenting directly on Brown and any potential negotiations. There is actual connective tissue between Patts and Brown. Mike Vrabel and the Browns go back to their Tennessee Titans days (2019-2021), which only fuels the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” narrative.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles have not stopped trade talks at all. If anything, their recent moves, adding Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, and flipping for Dontavian Wicks, feel like roster insulation. Not a replacement for Brown, but enough depth to soften the blow if he gets shaken up.

From the Caps’ perspective, it has “after June 1” written all over it. Only then can Philly make the dead money hit even cleaner. But if they want maximum draft capital in return, it might make sense to pull the trigger before draft night — even if it hurts the books a little more.

Overall, nothing is imminent, and nothing is guaranteed.

The beauty of placing stars at premium positions on team-friendly contracts with low cap hits is that it allows the front office to spend heavily on specific talent at other positions.

Lawrence, already a two-time All-Pro selection at only 28 years old, would fit that bill. Not only is he one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL when healthy, but he plays a position in which New York is dangerously weak. Removing him would leave the team in a dire situation on its defensive interior.

A contract extension would likely cost more than $30 million per season. If Lawrence is traded and New York gets the second-day pick back, there’s really no one on the roster outside of Malik Nabors who can dedicate that cap space.

While the array of players in the 2027 NFL free agency class includes players like Drake London, Chris Olave, Tucker Craft, Quenton Nelson and Joey Porter Jr., all of them are expected to sign contract extensions this year. Realistically, New York will want to use that cap space on players who are potentially bigger or not as good as Lawrence. Given this, it remains likely that both sides will work out a long-term agreement.

The Baltimore Ravens have the 14th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Still, there’s always a possibility that they won’t use the selection. Trades are always possible, and the Ravens could move up or down the draft board.

Recently, Bleacher Report’s Christopher Knox highlighted some potential trade outcomes that could emerge during the draft. In doing so, he suggested that the Ravens could trade the 14th overall pick to the Cowboys in exchange for superstar wide receiver George Pickens, who was coming off a career-high 1,429 receiving yards. Pickens is also entering the final year of his contract, leading some to wonder if Dallas would be open to a blockbuster trade offer.

“Replacing Pickens with a receiver like Kevin Concepcion or Omar Cooper Jr. on a rookie contract would make a lot of financial sense,” Knox wrote. “Snagging Pickens would make sense for a team like the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore could use a legitimate No. 1 receiver, and Pickens would certainly fill that need. He might also get a chance to go up against the Pittsburgh Steelers team that snubbed him a year ago.”

The 2026 NFL Draft begins on April 23, and predictably, no one is talking about the Green Bay Packers. Of course, there’s a reason for this, as the Packers don’t have any picks on the first day of the draft. After trading for Micah Parsons, the Packers not only do not have a first-round pick in 2026, but they also do not have their own first-round pick in 2027.

For this year’s draft, the Packers are not scheduled to select until the 52nd overall pick in the second round. Thus, if there’s an early chance that Green Bay’s front office falls in love with him, they may have to move a move across the board to get the job done. There have been rumors of the Cleveland Browns potentially trading for top star Myles Garrett for the past few years. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year had also requested his exit a year earlier before receiving an extension from the team.

While general manager Andrew Berry is saying the right things and claims he wants Garrett to finish his career in Cleveland, several NFL insiders still believe a deal is possible, including Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. On Friday, he made a reasonable case for why a trade should not be rejected and presented a compelling evidence.

“There was a recent contract amendment that delayed Garrett’s offseason option bonus deadline from the 15th of the league year in March to seven days before the start of the regular season,” Florio wrote. “Obviously, this allows the Browns to trade Garrett without paying the option bonus.”

A Myles Garrett trade is still in play, and it could potentially happen right before or during this month’s NFL Draft. If that were the case, let’s take a look at six teams that could use their draft assets to acquire the seven-time Pro Bowler.

The Dallas Cowboys still have a big hole at the pass rush after trading Micah Parsons just weeks before the start of the 2025 season. They’re hoping to fill that void with one of this year’s top pass-rushing prospects. However, Garrett is not only a proven commodity, but he is arguably the best pass rusher in the game.

The Cowboys have two picks in Round 1, and an owner/general manager in Jerry Jones is always ready to make a bold move. Could George Pickens be added to a potential deal to help make money? After how poorly we performed on that side of the ball last year, it would make more sense to pay one specific player on defense rather than pay big bucks to three players on offense (Pickens, CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott).

New York Jets

The New York Jets were a disaster last season and need all the help they can get. So having two first-round picks this season is a big plus. However, they are a team in a major market, and bringing in box office stars will always appeal to ownership.

However, they could opt to give the Browns just one of their selections in Round 1 and instead offer first-rounders in future years. Which is not a bad thing. The chance to have the No. 2 overall pick and two picks in the top six this month will certainly interest Cleveland.

pittsburgh steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a league-leading 12 picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, including the 21st overall selection. They still have a solid chunk of salary cap space (via Over The Cap) to use for Garrett’s contract.

The Steelers are not a franchise known for making big trades. And the Browns are unlikely to move Garrett within the division. But they may make an offer Cleveland can’t refuse. A new rumor has added a team to this summer’s Giannis Antetokounmpo trade pursuit that would be a major threat to the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The story of whether or not the Milwaukee Bucks will trade Antetokounmpo dominated the NBA news cycle in early 2026. Especially when reports surfaced that the team was listening to trade offers ahead of the February trade deadline. However, February 6 passed and the 10-time All-Star remained in Wisconsin.

Still, the expectation was that trading would resume this summer. It appears the matter is now at a standstill as Antetokounmpo and the team have clashed over his return to the court in the final weeks of the season. Well, just like before the deadline, the Knicks, Warriors, Timberwolves and many other teams are expected to be the top contenders for the two-time NBA MVP.

Those franchise offerings will be refined this summer. But will that be enough to defeat the Brooklyn Nets, because, according to the New York Post’s Brian Lewis, after appearing disinterested in pursuing a star player again, it is now certain that Brooklyn will “tell the Bucks their desired superstar this summer.”

What could the Brooklyn Nets offer in a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade?

From this year to 2030, the Nets have eight first-round selections. Which includes two pieces in 2027, 2028 and 2029. A lot of draft picks will be a key part of any offer Milwaukee accepts for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Brooklyn will have plenty of them in future years. Another priority for the Bucks will be adding young stars.

The Nets could offer Michael Porter Jr. one season remaining on his contract. He certainly has value after a career year in 2025-26. The big question is whether Milwaukee will see the value in players like Nic Claxton and the team’s five first-round selections from the 2025 class – Igor Demin, Nolan Traore, Drake Powell, Ben Saraf (26th), and Danny Wolf.

Furthermore, while Antetokounmpo wants to play in New York, he may not have any interest in joining a Nets franchise that is known for losing heavily throughout its history.

At the very least, the Nets should be a player in the Antetokounmpo trade market and could make a strong offer that should worry teams like the Knicks, Warriors and Timberwolves.

The Houston Texans managed to win two more games in 2025 than they won in 2024. Yet, once the playoffs arrived, the story was the same. The Texans still won their wild card matchup, but flopped again in the divisional round, losing by more than one possession to the eventual AFC representative in the Super Bowl.

The Texans’ front office, led by general manager Nick Caserio, has since been busy trying to upgrade their biggest weaknesses. Houston has been active in free agency, upgrading the offensive line. They also aren’t afraid to swing a trade to get the guy they want, like getting running back David Montgomery from the Lions.

Now, the Texans have made a trade for another piece, but it’s for guard Demeco Ryan.

On Tuesday, news broke that the New England Patriots are set to release linebacker Marte Mapu. Yet, before the Patriots could actually process the transaction, the Texans presented a trade offer.

According to ESPN’s Patriots insider Mike Reiss, the Texans are sending a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick to New England in exchange for Mapu.

Mapu was the 76th overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Patriots. The 26-year-old has started 10 of his 44 appearances over the past three seasons. He has compiled half of the NFL’s leading total of 89 tackles, three interceptions, five forced fumbles and one sack.

New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence fueled NFL trade rumors on Monday when the three-time Pro Bowl selection requested a transfer from the team. As he and the Giants try to resolve their differences, NFL teams around the league are speculating what a deal could look like for the All-Pro defensive lineman.

ESPN’s Giants reporter Jordan Raanan reported Tuesday that the consensus he had received from sources around the league was that New York’s potential return in a Lawrence trade would be a late first-round pick or an early second-round pick.

“He’s super, super important. He’s a cornerstone football player — not really a cornerstone, like a middle stone. He’s right in the middle. He’s a huge stone, and he’s very active, athletic.”

While New York is one of the deepest teams in the NFL, it’s a much different story internally. If Lawrence were traded, the team would rely on players like Darius Alexander and Roy Robertson-Harris to play a significant percentage of the snaps. This would be a huge blow defensively.

That’s not even to mention the fact that this would create a new need that has to be addressed in the 2026 NFL Draft. New York doesn’t have a ton of draft capital for starters, having only two top-100 selections along with four of the first 150 selections. With the club already having to address the linebackers, wide receivers, cornerbacks and offensive line, trading Lawrence would mean creating a void somewhere that can’t be adequately filled.

To make matters worse, the 2026 NFL Draft class is not particularly strong. A late first-round pick this year could have been a second-day pick last year, and the talent pool in the 25-45 range is largely the same. On a purely return basis, New York almost certainly won’t be able to come close to Lawrence’s impact.

The best option for the Giants is to resolve this contract dispute with Lawrence, finding terms that will work for him on a long-term deal. Given that the team has a starting quarterback, wide receiver and two edge rushers who are still playing on rookie-level contracts, they also have the financial flexibility to give Lawrence both a pay raise and more guaranteed money.

The Chicago Bears have shown a keen interest in strengthening the trenches since general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Ben Johnson took over. Last offseason, the Bears upgraded the offensive line by trading for Joe Thuney. This offseason, the Bears have an opportunity to boost the defensive line.

On Monday, second-team All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence requested a trade from the New York Giants. Lawrence is a 28-year-old three-time Pro Bowler who now wants a raise over the $26.9 million cap hit he faces in 2026.

It is highly doubtful that the Giants would be willing to trade their best defenseman, yet now that the trade request has become public, their trade offers will only increase. This may also include bears.

Since the trade request came out, Bleacher Report’s Mo Moton has ruled out a few trade possibilities for the 6-foot-4, 340-pound DT. In doing so, he cited the Bears as one of the most ideal landing spots.

In doing so, he suggested that the Bears could offer a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Bears have the 57th and 60th overall picks in the second round, as well as the 129th overall pick in the fourth round. Is that enough for the Giants to trade one of their best players?

There’s no doubt he’ll provide a significant upgrade to the Bears’ defensive line, but then they’ll likely have to make him one of the NFL’s highest-paid defensive tackles. Still, the Giants are likely to receive multiple trade offers, and they may prefer to trade him out of the NFC.

Auston Matthews’ future with the Toronto Maple Leafs has been in the news. The Maple Leafs missed the 2026 Stanley Cup playoffs, and the direction of the franchise will ultimately decide whether Matthews requests a trade or stays. If this goes the wrong direction, the Toronto star has been linked to a surprise NHL organization.

The insider said on the barn burner, Sportsnet’s Darren Dreger believes the Utah Mammoth will be a big player with Matthews moving forward. Dreger also said the San Jose Sharks would make some sense, but he wouldn’t call the organization a front-runner to acquire Matthews in the future.

Since relocating from Arizona to Utah, the organization has progressed every year. In fact, the Mammoth made a big move at the deadline, acquiring defenseman McKenzie Weegar from the Calgary Flames. Now, Utah has a very strong chance of making the Stanley Cup playoffs as the first wild card team in the Western Conference.

The Mammoth were linked to several big-name players during the NHL trade deadline, such as St. Louis Blues forward Robert Thomas. Utah has the assets to make a big trade this offseason, making it one of several organizations that could be in the market for Matthews.

However, that would require Matthews to make a decision and request a trade from Toronto. For now, the Maple Leafs will likely attempt to get the organization back to the Stanley Cup playoffs next season. After all, it’s hard to waste a talent like Matthews, William Nylander and Matthew Nease.

Utah is looking to make a major breakthrough in the Stanley Cup playoffs and don’t expect them to fall apart anytime soon. In fact, if everything goes in the right direction for them the Mammoth could end up with Matthews.
