La Razon then turn to specialist publication Futbolfinanzas. They report that neither Barcelona nor Newcastle publicly disclose agent fees. Thus, the €24m does not appear in any official statement.
But he estimates it actually amounts to about 34% of total transfer costs. This, he says, is something that is a 'high percentage even by today's standards'. And it's already causing quite a bit of controversy in Spain and Barcelona.

Of course, high agent fees are nothing new in modern football. However, when transfer fees are discussed it is common for them to be dismissed or ignored altogether.
Unfortunately for Barcelona, and to a lesser extent Newcastle, it appears to have slipped the net. And in Spain at least they are questioning the honesty of it all when an €80m player is actually a €100m player when all is said and done.
This somehow adds an extra level of pressure for Anthony Gordon. Now he has even more to prove to the Barcelona faithful who expect results from such a big spend.
