“Yeah, I mean, 6-7, I mean, doing exactly what he’s supposed to do. He’s a great defender, he’s a great scoring player, you know people know him for being a point-guard, for being a scorer but he’s a great two-way player. During Pistons media day, Cunningham revealed that he had talked with the Hall-of-Famer about potentially working together.

“Me and Melo, we talked a few times,” Cunningham said in September 2025.

Carmelo Anthony, who has since joined NBC Sports as their analyst, recently talked about Cunningham’s rise on a call with the media for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game.

“I like it,” Anthony said. “I’ve been a fan and watching Cade since high school. I’ve watched his growth, development and maturity over the last four or five years. We’ve kept in touch. He reached out to the gym and wanted to work on certain aspects of his game. I saw it as a sign of maturity, he wanted to slow the game down and pick his spots. Cunningham has led the Pistons to the best record in the Eastern Conference and second-best record in the NBA at 40–13.

The Pistons began their post-All-Star break schedule with a two-game road trip against the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls. “I thought the people of Detroit really cared and that’s why the game was good,” Simmons said on Sunday night’s edition of The Bill Simmons Podcast.

Detroit just wants to swallow its opponents whole, and it’s the intensity on the defensive end that makes it very suffocating to play against. And both Cunningham and Duren set the tone for Team Stars, which certainly played a role in defeating Team Stripes 47-21 in the final game of the night.

Now that the All-Star Game is over, Cade Cunningham will turn his attention to helping the Detroit Pistons maintain their dominance in the Eastern Conference.

When a reporter asked Cunningham where he got his aura, he explained a grassroots response.

He does not shy away from talking about his faith in public. He mainly sees this in how he views life, how he handles pressure, and how he tries to make a positive impact.

When Cunningham suffered a season-ending calf injury in 2022-2023, only his second year in the NBA, he relied heavily on his faith. He was limited to only 12 games. Since his return, he has only gotten better, stronger, and wiser.

The Pistons are on top of the Eastern Conference at 40-13, including 8-2 in their last 10 games.

He returns to action on Thursday against the New York Knicks.

Cade Cunningham took his stance on helping Detroit Pistons teammate Isaiah Stewart with his fine following his recent suspension.

The Pistons received a lot of attention during a viral fight with Charlotte Hornets players on February 9. This resulted in Stewart and Jalen Duren being suspended and fined, along with other players on both teams. The NBA ordered the former player to miss seven consecutive games and the latter to miss four games.

Cunningham participated in All-Star Weekend festivities as he was in attendance for media day. After earning a spot as an All-Star starter, he answered questions as one of them revolved around Stewart’s fine. This is where the Star Guard came forward in support of his comrade.

“Would you ever be the one to pay the fine for Isaiah Stewart?” The reporter asked.

Cunningham replied, “I would. He’s my brother, man… It’s expensive, but he’s the guy. I wouldn’t trade him for the world.”

Cade Cunningham is enjoying an incredible campaign as the Pistons are in the mix for serious playoff contention. He will need his best buddies to keep him from getting into too much trouble and help him along the way.

Cunningham earned the second All-Star selection of his career this season as he is also up for his second All-NBA selection. He averaged 25.3 points, 9.6 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in 47 appearances.
