Nuggets’ nightmare seedings, matchup scenarios for the 2026 NBA Playoffs

The Denver Nuggets have been a Western Conference powerhouse for years. They have made the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons, and they won the NBA championship in 2023. They have also made the Conference Finals and are one of the most consistent teams in the league in head coach David Adelman’s first full season as the team’s bench boss.
He has a cast of stars capable of stepping up and dominating the playoffs, but the Nuggets haven’t played at that level during the regular season.

Denver has 10 games remaining in the season and are tied for fourth place with the Minnesota Timberwolves. While there was no reason to think Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon would lead the Nuggets past the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the regular season and clinch the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, they certainly have the talent and all-around game to take the No. 2 seed. However, he has been ignored by the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers. As a result, they are left fighting for homecourt advantage against the Timberwolves.

It’s important for the Nuggets to earn home-court advantage

If there is no change in the standings, the Nuggets and Timberwolves will meet in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Based on their records and the way each team has played this season, the Denver-Minnesota series has all the makings of a seven-game battle.

This may be the best thing for the Nuggets, as Jokic will be forced to focus on the business at hand. He is a dynamic leader and has been with the Nuggets throughout his illustrious 11-year career. Joker is a fantastic all-around center, but he is also an avid race horse owner and may be distracted by the biggest races because he loves that sport so much.

The battle between the Nuggets and Timberwolves will feature Jokic battling against Julius Randle, and there will almost certainly be a battle of attrition between those two big men as they fight for key rebounds and position below the boards. Jokic is the better player and will likely get the edge, but he will need Murray to get the job done against Anthony Edwards. Murray is certainly a dynamic player and the challenge of facing Edwards will probably be his best effort, but in the end Edwards will have the upper hand.

Jokic and Murray have impressive numbers

Jokic is averaging 28.0 points, 12.6 rebounds, 10.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game. With 25.1 points and 7.1 assists per game, Murray is clearly a sensational partner on offense. Edwards is averaging 29.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for the Timberwolves, while Randle is scoring 21.0 points and bringing in 6.8 rebounds per game.

That’s why finishing fourth and gaining home-court advantage is important for the Nuggets. If they slip ahead and Minnesota gets the lead, it will be a nightmare for the Nuggets.

The Nuggets may also fall behind the Rockets and slip to sixth place

The Nuggets had just a half-game lead over the sixth-place Houston Rockets heading into Wednesday’s schedule. If the Rockets surpass the Nuggets and Denver moves up to sixth, a showdown with the red-hot Los Angeles Lakers will follow. The Lakers have won nine of their last 10 games and slowing down Luka Doncic will clearly be a top priority for the Nuggets defense. Doncic is averaging 33.4 points per game and is connecting on 47.4 percent of his shots.

Austin Reaves and LeBron James are key cogs in the Lakers’ offense as they average 23.5 and 21.0 points per game, respectively. The Lakers are playing their best basketball of the season and will be a tough matchup for the Nuggets. It won’t just be about Jokic and Murray if the Nuggets make it past the first round.

They will need a lot of production from Gordon, Peyton Watson and Tim Hardaway Jr. if they want to overtake the Lakers. Gordon is contributing 16.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game, while Watson and Hardaway are averaging 14.9 and 13.8 points, respectively.

Falling to sixth place and meeting the Lakers may be another nightmare for the Nuggets.

It almost certainly can’t get any worse for the Nuggets. They have a four-game lead over the seventh-place Phoenix Suns, and that’s something Jokic and company want to avoid. Finishing seventh means participation in the Western Conference Play-in Tournament, and if they win the first play-in game it would almost mean a loss for the Spurs.

The rested No. 7 seed would have to meet the rested No. 2 seed in the first round, and that would be a nightmare for the Nuggets. It is very unlikely that luck will favor the team, but it is within the realm of possibility.

Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale on injury report for Nuggets clash

The Phoenix Suns host the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, and Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neal are both among the players on the team’s injury report. Allen is dealing with a knee injury and is listed as questionable, while O’Neal also has a knee injury but is listed as probable. Here’s everything we know about Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale’s injuries and their playing statuses heading into the Suns’ game against the Nuggets.

Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neal’s injury status vs. Nuggets

Given that Royce O’Neale is on the Suns’ injury report as probable, this generally indicates that he will be able to play. It’s just a waiting game until Sans makes the upgrade available to him. O’Neale has been sidelined for the last three games and has been a productive player for the Suns.

He has appeared in 69 games this season, including 64 starts, averaging just over 29 minutes per game. He averaged 9.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals on 41.6 percent shooting from the field, 40.3 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 70 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

With Grayson Allen listed as questionable, his status is more unclear. He has been out for the last four games and likely won’t have any concrete updates until closer to tip-off.

He has appeared in 44 games, including 26 starts, at a pace of just over 29 minutes per game. He averaged a career-high 17.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 40.7 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from the 3-point line and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Blazers vs. Nuggets Predictions, Odds, Picks

The Denver Nuggets have lost twice in their last four games and will look to regain momentum when they take on the 35-36 Portland Trail Blazers at home. Portland is on a three-game winning streak that has pushed them into play-in territory.

They are currently in 9th place in the East and are tied 1-1 with Denver in the season series. However, the Nuggets defeated them 157-103 in their last meeting and are the clear favorites to pick up another win on paper.

They are trailing several teams and are currently in 5th place in the Western Conference with a 43-28 record. The following predictions are based on odds by DraftKings.

Blazers vs. Nuggets Odds

Trail Blazers: +8.5 (-110)

Nuggets: -8.5 (-110)

Over: 241.5 (-110)

Under: 241.5 (-110)

Blazers vs. Nuggets Major Injuries

Portland remains shorthanded in key areas. Damian Lillard is out for the season, while Shaddon Sharp is also sidelined. Jerami Grant and Witt Krejci are both listed as day-to-day and their availability will be a gametime decision.

In comparison, Denver is almost completely healthy. With only Peyton Watson listed as questionable, their entire list of stars are fit and active for it.

Blazers vs. Nuggets Betting Trends

Denver is not having his most impressive season yet. However, they have been strong at home and fans can expect another win based on the following trends:

  • The Nuggets are 4-1 in their last five home games.
  • Denver averages 120.7 points per game (No. 1 in the NBA).
  • The Nuggets lead the league in three-point percentage (39.2%).

The Trail Blazers, on the other hand, have their work cut out for them, and may face a mountain to climb in Denver.

  • The Trail Blazers are 9-11 ATS as road underdogs.
  • Portland’s average scoring margin in those games is -11.3.
  • The Blazers rank 23rd in offensive rating this season.

Their most recent match ended in a massive 54-point victory for the Nuggets. However, with the series tied at 1-1 and recent momentum, the Trail Blazers will be hoping to pull off an upset, although their injury outlook is also worrisome.

Keys to the Blazers vs. Nuggets matchup

The Nuggets have one of the most efficient offenses in the league. Led by Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, Denver has the highest-scoring offense in the NBA (120.7 ppg).

Jokic averaged 28.1 points on 57.4% shooting and scored 32 points in less than 30 minutes during the blowout win. The Blazers rank 17th in opponent points in the paint, which plays directly into Jokic’s strengths as both a scorer and facilitator.

On the periphery, the difference is even more pronounced. Denver is leading at 39.2% from three (No. 1 in the NBA), while Portland is 29th at 33.8%. So, Denver not only has in-form stars, but they also have a more productive system. Despite the recent momentum, especially in the absence of Lillard and Sharp, the Trail Blazers have struggled to generate points.

Blazers vs. Nuggets Predictions and Picks

The Nuggets will try to dictate proceedings from the beginning. Jok can be expected to take charge once again. However, even if Portland manages to knock him out, Denver’s shooting talent and ability to slow down turnovers is bound to cause problems.

Murray scored 31 points in the last game and the Nuggets have more than enough shooters to cause problems all night long. However, the Trail Blazers will try to cause problems of their own.

Denny Advija, Donovan Clingan and Jerami Grant have all scored while Scooter Henderson and Jrue Holiday will also contribute. The Trail Blazers may need to shoot better than in recent games, leaving Jokic and company to go the distance.

Final Blazers-Nuggets predictions and picks: Denver Nuggets -8.5 (-110); Under 241.5 (-110)

Cedric Coward shares honest reaction on disappointing win vs. Nuggets

The Memphis Grizzlies delivered one of their most remarkable performances of the season on Wednesday night, defeating the Denver Nuggets by a score of 125-118 at FedExForum. The win broke an eight-match losing streak and offered a glimpse of the team’s long-term potential.

The Grizzlies entered the matchup as the Western Conference’s 11th seed and clear underdogs at 23–44, while the Nuggets came in as the sixth seed at 42–27, and held a three-game lead over the seventh-place Phoenix Suns. However, Memphis turned the result around with its energy, timely shot-making and better execution in the final minutes. The result stood as one of the team’s most important wins of the season.

Cedric Coward played an important role in the performance. The rookie contributed to the stat sheet while continuing to develop within Memphis’ young core. His versatility helped the Grizzlies compete defensively while maintaining offensive differentials, allowing his impact to extend beyond traditional numbers.

Grind City Media shared the clip to X, formerly of Twitter, crediting Michael Wallace with capturing Coward’s postgame reaction, as the guard reflected on the importance of the win after a tough stretch.

“It’s really good to get back in the win column, especially against a playoff team.”

The post emphasized that the moment represented more than one outcome. Instead, it reflects the continued progress of a developing roster that is still learning to consistently compete at the NBA level.

Coward expanded on that theme when discussing the team’s development after the win.

“It also proves that we are growing and moving upward, understanding what we need to do on both ends of the floor, especially with so many young guys still adjusting to the league.”

Those comments reinforce the direction of the Memphis Youth Center. Even during difficult seasons, the Grizzlies continue to build identity through experiences such as these.

Ultimately, the result may not dramatically affect the situation. However, it does provide a meaningful benchmark for a young roster seeking consistency and confidence moving forward.

Injured Joel Embiid joins Nikola Jokic after Nuggets game

On Tuesday evening, the Philadelphia 76ers returned to the loss column with a blowout road loss at the hands of the Denver Nuggets. The 76ers were playing without several key players, including big man Joel Embiid, who remained out of the lineup due to injury.

However, Embiid was present on the sidelines at Ball Arena, and after the game, he shared a good moment With fellow Nuggets MVP big man Nikola Jokic.

Embiid and Jokic have long been viewed as the two best centers on the NBA landscape, and fans have been frustrated by the lack of a head-to-head matchup between the two former MVPs. In fact, Embiid hasn’t played a game in Denver since the 2019-20 season, having been injured at that time of year every season since then.

Meanwhile, the 76ers recently slipped to ninth place in the Eastern Conference amid the Atlanta Hawks’ 10-game winning streak, and it’s unclear when Embiid will be ready to return to the court. The 76ers are still dealing with the absence of Paul George due to league suspension, as well as Tyrese Maxey, who is out with a finger injury.

At this point, it’s highly unlikely that the 76ers could realistically fall further than tenth place in the Eastern Conference, meaning they would be at worst heading into the play-in tournament. However, in a season that started with so much promise, it is certainly disappointing for Philadelphia fans to see things fall apart due to injuries once again.

The 76ers will next take the court on Thursday evening as they look to get back into the win column against the Sacramento Kings.

Is Joel Embiid playing against Nikola Jokic tonight? 76ers vs nuggets injury report

The Philadelphia 76ers face Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night, and Joel Embiid is once again at the center of the injury report. The 76ers have listed Embiid as out with a right oblique strain, making Philadelphia the franchise star the focus of attention as the team looks to extend a two-game winning streak.

The 76ers enter the matchup at 37-31, No. 9 in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are 41-27, in 5th place in the Western Conference and looking to bounce back from a recent loss against the Los Angeles Lakers. With both teams pushing for momentum, Embiid’s absence looms large.

Embiid remains the 76ers’ anchor when available. In 33 games, he is averaging 26.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists, while shooting 49.5 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from three and 85.8 percent from the line. He also adds 1.1 blocks and 0.6 steals per game.

When Embiid plays, the 76ers operate with far more structure and interior dominance. His ability to command double teams and control the paint shapes Philadelphia’s entire offensive system.

joel embiid injury status vs nuggets

The 76ers’ injury report includes several additional names. Jonny Broom is out as his right knee recovers from surgery. Paul George is out due to league suspension. Tyrese Maxey is out with a strained right tendon, while Kelly Oubre Jr. is out with a left elbow sprain. Dellen Terry is listed as questionable due to a left shoulder problem.

As for Denver, the Nuggets have several players listed out on the injury report. Those names include Jabari Walker, Darron Holmes II, Curtis Jones and KJ Simpson on G League assignment. Peyton Watson is also out with a right hamstring strain.

Still, Embiid’s absence remains the biggest story in this matchup. The 76ers will try to maintain their momentum even without their star. The Nuggets, meanwhile, aim to respond after the loss.

So when it comes to the question of whether Joel Embiid is playing tonight against the Nuggets, the answer is no. Their rightward bias will keep them on the sidelines. As a result, Philadelphia will need to adjust in an important inter-conference matchup.

Nuggets’ dream seeding, matchup scenarios for the 2026 NBA Playoffs

Have the Denver Nuggets been disappointing so far in the 2025-26 season? It’s a question many are raising now and then as they battle for a spot in the Western Conference. A large portion of NBA fans believed that they were the second-best team in the NBA after their offseason maneuvers, but they have yet to find the level of consistency that makes them worthy of such praise.

Whatever the case, the Nuggets stand as one of the most dangerous teams heading into the postseason for a simple reason: They have Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray running the show. If they get a clean bill of health in the playoffs, the Nuggets are going to be one of the toughest matchups, as they are a legitimately competitive team that could make it at any time.

But in the playoffs, luck may play a role. The matchup also matters, and the same applies for the Nuggets – a team that currently sits in fifth place in the West standings with a 41-27 record.

That said, in a month’s time, when the 2026 NBA Playoffs begin, this is what the Nuggets should expect in terms of seeding.

Nuggets avoid 4th/5th seed, postpone potential Thunder matchup until WCF

Some people think that the regular season doesn’t matter much and the real games start during the playoffs. This is not the case; Homecourt advantage can play a big role in the postseason, and taking care of business in the regular season can yield favorable matchups.

But if the Nuggets have learned anything from last year’s playoffs, it’s that the matchup against the Thunder may be the best one for the Conference Finals.

OKC remains the best team in the NBA, and they now have championship pedigree. There were questions last season whether he had what it takes to make it on the grand stage, but he has answered all those questions correctly and passed the test with flying colors.

While the Thunder dodging all the way to the Conference Finals guarantees nothing, the Nuggets can at least have more variables working in their favor the deeper they go into the postseason. Injury may occur. Fatigue may occur. And perhaps by the time the WCF moves on, if Denver makes it that far, they could be sure to have a more favorable matchup.

Last season, the Thunder were overwhelming the Grizzlies, making them a far more fresh team than the Nuggets, who were coming off a seven-game bloodbath against the Los Angeles Clippers. This year, taking care of business early and quickly could help protect the Nuggets deeper into the postseason, especially given the injury problems they have endured throughout the season.

At this point, the two-seed appears to be well out of reach for the Nuggets. So if anything, Denver would like to move up to third in the West, or if they fall, get the sixth seed instead.

It’s hard to tell what the most favorable 3-6 matchup will be for the Nuggets. If there’s one matchup to avoid it’s the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves eliminated the Nuggets in 2024, and they have the size and length to make life difficult for Denver. Considering the Nuggets’ poor defense (they have the 21st-ranked defense in the league), an early playoff matchup against Anthony Edwards may not be ideal.

The matchup against Houston Rockets seems to be the most favourable. Houston will have trouble creating offense in the postseason when halfcourt offenses become more prominent. Amen Thompson is a non-shooter. Reed Shepard is a shooter, but has significant defensive shortcomings.

The Rockets will also be missing Steven Adams for the rest of the season, so it’s not like Houston will be able to throttle Denver on the offensive glass.

Kevin Durant will have their work cut out for them. Alpern Sengun will be tested on defense, especially when he has to cover the Jokic-Murray two-man game. The Rockets’ role players (Tari Eason, Dorian Finney-Smith) are hit or miss from beyond the arc.

There are no easy matchups in the playoffs, but the matchup against the Rockets looks very winnable, at least on paper.

If the Nuggets get there, they will likely face a matchup against the San Antonio Spurs in the second round. Facing Victor Wembanyama in a playoff series doesn’t sound very appealing.

But in a conference where you have to go through a blender to survive, the matchup against the non-battle-tested Spurs at least seems more manageable than the second-round matchup against the defending champion Thunder.

L2M report reveals serious bad calls that led to Nuggets’ loss to Lakers

The Denver Nuggets lost a tough game against the Los Angeles Lakers in overtime, but it feels like some things should have been different at the end of regulation. Austin Reaves went to the free-throw line a few times with a few seconds remaining in the game, but the first time he went, Spencer Jones drew the foul.

The next day, the last-two-minute report said Reeves was not to get to the free-throw line.

ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, formerly of the

This would have changed a lot for the Nuggets and could have given them a chance to increase their lead. Instead, Reeves sank both free throws, and went to the line again after being fouled. That miss allowed him to get the ball back and shoot the floater, tying the game and sending it into overtime.

The Nuggets lost the game with a Luka Doncic game-winner, and now they do not have a tiebreaker against the Lakers. This makes a lot of sense at the position, especially since everyone in the Western Conference is tight.

The Nuggets still have plenty of time to make up some ground, but they need to start piling up wins before other teams overtake them.

Plus, no matter where the Nuggets finish, they will be a tough matchup for anyone because of Nikola Jokic’s strength and his dominance.

JJ Redick never saw what LeBron did against the Nuggets

On Saturday night, the Los Angeles Lakers picked up their fifth consecutive win with a narrow home win over the Denver Nuggets in overtime. Los Angeles needed some late-game magic to pull it off, including a tying shot from Austin Reaves in regulation and a game-winner from Luka Doncic in the extra frame.

It was also a solid night for LeBron James, who scored 17 points with six rebounds and five assists, but the play that drew the most attention was a full-out dive for the basketball in the closing minutes to help save possession for Los Angeles.

After the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick reacted to the game.

“I told [James] After the game, I said, ‘In 23 years of watching you play in the NBA, in the three years I watched you play in high school, I’ve never seen you do a full-out extension dive like that,’ Redick said, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “He said, ‘You’re right, I’ve never done that.'”

Truly, it was an epic game, especially for a 41-year-old with 23 years of NBA mileage on his body.

The win moved the Lakers into third place in the Western Conference as the 2025–26 NBA season nears its home stretch, and it also gave them their fifth consecutive win overall. Los Angeles has been playing some better basketball over the past few weeks, especially on the defensive end, which is the area that has given them the most trouble over the past two seasons.

Los Angeles will take the field on Monday evening for the first of a two-game road set against the Houston Rockets, which could be a potential playoff matchup next month.

LeBron James credits Jumbotron kid for spectacular win over Nuggets

On Saturday evening, the Los Angeles Lakers continued their winning ways with an impressive home win in overtime over the Denver Nuggets. It wasn’t always rosy for the Lakers, but ultimately, they took the game to extra frames thanks to great play from Austin Reaves and then won it on a late Luka Doncic jumper.

At one point in the game, a heartwarming moment occurred when a young fan was caught showing off his enthusiasm for the game on the Crypto.com Arena jumbotron.

After the game, the kid got a shoutout from none other than LeBron James himself.

“It was a great atmosphere. … That little kid on the Jumbotron was definitely — I saw there — I think he’s the reason we won tonight,” James, formerly of the Ax, said, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin on Twitter.

The young fan wasn’t the only one thrilled by what he saw Saturday, as Los Angeles picked up its fifth consecutive win against a quality opponent in Denver.

The Lakers’ defense, which has been seen as a reason for the team not being taken seriously as a contender this year, has started to play some better basketball over the past few weeks, with JJ Redick’s strategy appearing to be to get LeBron James off the ball as much as possible so he doesn’t have to expend so much energy on the 41-year-old.

The results have paid off so far, as Los Angeles is currently the number three seed in the Western Conference, the same spot where they finished the regular season last year.

The Lakers will hope that their playoff result this time will be a little different from last year’s gentlemen’s sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LeBron James’s F-bomb on Luka Doncic’s game-winner vs. Nuggets

The Los Angeles Lakers got a big win over the Denver Nuggets in overtime and they had to go through a lot of drama to get there. Austin Reeves intentionally missed his free throws at the end of regulation and was able to make a floater to get the ball back and tie the game.

At the end of overtime, Luka Doncic had the ball in his hands and did what he does best, making clutch shots. The Nuggets didn’t have enough time to get clean shots, and a game that looked like they were going to win turned into a Lakers win.

After the game, LeBron James spoke highly of Doncic and his ability to make clutch shots, and there will be more from him in the future.

James said, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, “Just a big shot by a generational player. … We wanted the last shot. We wanted to get the ball in our guy’s hands. So, this will be the first of many game winners for him and in a Lakers uniform.”

Doncic has never been afraid to take the big shot, and more often than not, he nails it. James knows what his guy is capable of and probably doesn’t mind giving him one last shot at the end of every game.

With the win, the Lakers have the tiebreaker over the Nuggets, which is big as the Western Conference standings continue to tighten toward the end of the season.

The Lakers have played well last week, and they are making progress at the right time to be in a good position when the season ends. As long as they have a closer like Doncic, they should be in good shape moving forward.

Marcus Smart gives props, Austin Reaves makes game-saving play vs. Nuggets

The Los Angeles Lakers not only beat the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night; He defeated them. While Luka Doncic made headlines with his game-winning block, the Lakers had that edge thanks to the high-IQ game of Austin Reaves and some veteran guidance from Marcus Smart.

With the game hanging in the balance, Reeves found himself at the charity stripe. Instead of the usual routine, Smart pulled the young guard aside with some very specific instructions.

“I told him to miss it,” Smart explained after the 127-125 overtime win. “I said listen, don’t go out there, don’t do your routine. As soon as you get the ball, one dribble if anything, but shoot it quickly. Nobody’s expecting it, they’re not going to have time to time it.”

Reeves executed the plan to perfection. He deliberately suppressed free throws, caught the Nuggets off guard, and “read the single side” forcing the Los Angeles Lakers to tie the game and force overtime. It was the kind of savvy play that doesn’t always show up in the box score but wins games against elite competition like Denver.

The game capped a great night for Reeves, who led all scorers with 32 points on an efficient shooting performance of 12-of-21. His backcourt partner, Smart, was equally important, providing 21 points and five steals while serving as a defensive orchestrator. Their combined efforts supported Doncic’s 30-point triple-double and helped neutralize Nikola Jokic’s 24-point, 16-rebound masterclass.

For head coach JJ Redick, it’s a dream to see his veteran leader and rising star collaborate on such a nuanced game. The Lakers are proving they have more than just star power; He has the situational awareness needed to grind out tough matches against the best players in the West.

Luka Doncic has the perfect reaction to the OT win over the Nuggets

Luka Doncic didn’t have much left in the tank after the Los Angeles Lakers survived a 127-125 overtime marathon against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night. As he walked towards the locker room of the Crypto.com Arena, exhaustion was clearly visible across his face. When asked how he felt after his game-winning heroics, Doncic gave a candid, unfiltered answer that perfectly summed up that night.

“Feeling great, tired,” Doncic said in the tunnel. “Got to rest a bit. Great win though, great win.”

The Slovenian superstar earned every bit of that exhaustion. In a game that felt like a heavyweight title fight, Doncic finished with a huge triple-double with 30 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds. But it was his activity in the final seconds that defined the game. After burying a clutch stepback jumper to give the Los Angeles Lakers a two-point lead, he switched to Tim Hardaway Jr. and drained a potentially game-winning three-pointer as the buzzer sounded.

Luka Doncic blocks Tim Hardaway Jr. for spectacular OT win over Nuggets

Luka Doncic reminded the entire NBA why the Los Angeles Lakers are the team to beat in the Western Conference. The Lakers defeated the Denver Nuggets 127-125 in an overtime thriller Saturday night at Crypto.com Arena. While the box score highlights a huge team effort, the night belonged to Doncic. He produced a ruthless game-winner followed by a defensive stop that sent the home crowd into a frenzy.

The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t make it easy for themselves. After letting a lead slip late in regulation, they traded haymakers to a Denver Nuggets team led by Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray. The energy inside the arena reached fever pitch as both teams refused to blink in the extra period.

But as the game became tied, Doncic took charge. With less than 7 seconds remaining, the Slovenian superstar buried a stepback jumper to put the Lakers up by two.

Denver had one last chance to steal the victory. The ball reached Tim Hardaway Jr., who had already scored 20 points off the bench for the Nuggets. Hardaway Jr. rose up for a potential game-winning three-pointer, but Doncic met him at the summit. The Lakers’ point guard blocked the attempt as the buzzer sounded, capping his triple-double performance with a rare defensive highlight.

Luka Doncic finished the evening with 30 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds. Got a lot of help from them also. Austin Reeves was fantastic, leading all scorers with 32 points on 12-of-21 shooting. Marcus Smart also turned back the clock, scoring 21 points and a staggering five steals to keep Denver’s offense unbalanced. For the Nuggets, Jokic was his usual dominant self, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Lakers’ star power. With the win, Los Angeles continues its lead at the top of the standings.

Are Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon playing tonight? nuggets vs lakers injury report

The Denver Nuggets visit the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. Jamal Murray is on the injury report along with Aaron Gordon, with both players listed as probable. Murray is nursing a left ankle injury, while Gordon is nursing a right hamstring injury. The Nuggets defeated the San Antonio Spurs 136–131 after erasing a 20-point deficit. Here’s everything we know about Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon’s injuries and their status for the Lakers game.

Jamal Murray’s injury status vs. Lakers

Given that Jamal Murray is on the injury report as probable, he will likely be in uniform for Saturday’s game against the Lakers. Murray has been on the injury report these days, but continues to play at a high level as the All-Star guard’s 39 points led six Nuggets in double figures, including Nikola Jokic (31 points). He recorded another triple-double (20 rebounds, 12 assists) with three steals and two blocks.

Murray’s production has increased across the board, averaging 28.6 points on 49.6% shooting, including 46.7% through seven games. This is arguably his best offensive performance of the regular season. Meanwhile, Aaron Gordon has only played three games this month as the Nuggets are getting off to an easy start getting back into the crease.

Gordon’s knee forced him to play only 26 games this season as he continues to heal from a season-ending right hamstring injury, leading the Nuggets to what they hope will be a deep playoff run. Gordon missed Game 7 of the Nuggets’ Western Conference Semifinal matchup against the Thunder. After missing Thursday’s game against Spurs, he should be cleared to play in Saturday’s match.

With Thursday’s comeback win against the Spurs, the Nuggets improved to 41-26, the fifth-best record in the Western Conference standings, just a half-game behind the Lakers.

A win against the Lakers would move the Nuggets to fourth place. As far as the question of whether Jamal Murray is playing against the Lakers tonight, the answer is probably yes.

Rockets Alpern Sengun on injury report vs. Pelicans after dud vs. Nuggets

Things haven’t been good in South Texas this week after the Houston Rockets were demolished by the Denver Nuggets. Now, the news may get even worse, as Alpern Sengun has filed an injury report against the New Orleans Pelicans, putting his status in doubt. The Pelicans are visiting the Rockets, and there is a possibility that Sengun will not play. Currently, he is dealing with lower back pain, which likely occurred during the loss to the Nuggets. Here’s everything we know about Alperen Sengun’s injury and his playing status against the Pelicans.

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Given that Alperen Sengun is questionable, there’s a legitimate possibility that he won’t suit up for this showdown with the Pelicans. This marks the second time he has been on the injury report this season, as Seungun suffered a foot injury earlier this season.

If Sengun had missed this game, he would have had an additional two days to recover before a big two-game home series against the Los Angeles Lakers. With the Rockets currently in fourth place in the Western Conference, these two games will be crucial for playoff positioning. Seungun is averaging 20.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game for the Rockets.

Seungun has been mostly unavailable for the Rockets this season, missing seven games. If he misses this game, there’s a good chance he could compete for the Purple and Gold on Monday. Whether or not Seungun plays tonight is still up in the air, and that could be a true game-time decision.

Kevin Durant’s blunt grip on 36-point wreck by Nuggets

It wasn’t a good night in Colorado, as the Houston Rockets struggled in a 36-point loss to the Denver Nuggets. According to NBA Courtside, after the 129-93 loss, Kevin Durant spoke honestly about the game and whether play played a role on the back end of the back-to-back.

“Kevin Durant asked if back-to-backs played a role in loss to Denver: ‘No. No. That’s our job. We get paid to do it. Back-to-backs shouldn’t matter at all,'” NBA Courtside posted on X.

The Rockets were coming off a 113-99 win over the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night. Then, they made a change and traveled to Denver for this game. The results did not go as planned and it was the second time in a week that the Rockets faltered.

The Rockets kept it close early, trailing 24–20 after the first quarter, and 53–47 at halftime. But things quickly got out of control in the third quarter, as the Nuggets put up 40 points on them to take a 93–69 lead heading into the third. The deficit was too much for the Rockets to overcome, and Durant was not that productive.

Amen Thompson led the Rockets with 16 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Similarly, Durant added 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Jabari Smith Jr. had 11 points, while Alperen Sengun had 10 points. Overall, the team shot 43.3% from the floor, including just 12.1% (4 of 33) from beyond the arc. The Rockets allowed the Nuggets to shoot 55.2% from the hardwood, including 53.1% from triples.

The Rockets will have a day off Thursday and then head home for a showdown with the New Orleans Pelicans before hosting the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.

According to the NBA injury report, Wembanyama is currently questionable due to an ankle problem.

The Spurs are 48-17 and in second place in the Western Conference standings, while the 40-26 Nuggets are in fifth place in the West. Thursday’s match should be competitive, but Vembanyama’s final position will clearly play a key role in determining the outcome.

When it comes to the question of whether Victor Wembanyama is playing tonight, the answer is probably.

How Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made NBA history in more ways than one vs. the Nuggets

In addition to breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record for most consecutive 20+ point games in NBA history, Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander accomplished another feat that only one player has accomplished. After joining Chamberlain in a special group, Gilgeous-Alexander joined Los Angeles Lakers All-Star LeBron James during the same game – a 129-126 win against MVP candidate Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored back-to-back threes between the Thunder’s final two possessions, including a game-winner, finished with 35 points, 15 assists and zero turnovers in Monday’s win against the Nuggets. Gilgeous-Alexander joins James as the only two players in NBA history to finish a game with 35+ points, 15+ assists and zero turnovers.

James finished 2018 with 35 points, 17 assists and zero turnovers in a 132–129 win against the Toronto Raptors. He became the first NBA player to do so at the time, and now, he has company.

Gilgeous-Alexander equaled Chamberlain’s 63-year-old record, leading the Thunder to a three-point win against their rivals in the Nuggets, whom the defending champions defeated 4-3 in the Western Conference semi-finals last season. The Thunder also handed the Nuggets their second loss in 10 days, following a classic 127-121 overtime thriller.

For Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, it’s important to focus on winning rather than focusing on breaking a 63-year-old record to accomplish such a rare feat in NBA history. Then, if that wasn’t enough for Thunder fans, Gilgeous-Alexander’s game-winning three on the Nuggets sealed an unforgettable night at Paycom Center.

gilgeous-alexander explain why Not paying attention to Chamberlain’s phenomenal record helped him get there.

Gilgeous-Alexander said after the win, “It still lingers in my mind. To be honest, I try not to think about it, especially during the season. There’s a lot going on. A lot of things have to go right to get what you want ultimately.” “That’s my 100 percent focus, especially in a basketball context. It’s special to interact with a guy like that (Wilt Chamberlain).

“It’s crazy to think that where I was 10 years ago, I would be here today. You work hard. You trust the process. You look up, and great things can happen to you, and I’m proof of that.”

Gilgeous-Alexander will try to set the NBA record for most consecutive 20+ point games when the Thunder host the Celtics on Thursday, making it 127.

Mark Daigneault reveals SGA’s ‘superpower’ after win vs. Nuggets

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault reflected on what makes him special after watching Shai Gilgeous-Alexander record his 126th consecutive 20+ point game before draining the game-winning 3-pointer in a 129-126 win against the Denver Nuggets. Gilgeous-Alexander handed the Nuggets their second loss in 10 days, as the shorthanded Thunder extended their winning streak to six.

Without All-Stars Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Jalen Williams, Gilgeous-Alexander matched Nikola Jokic’s triple-double (32 points, 13 assists, 14 rebounds) with 35 points, 15 assists and nine rebounds. After the win, Daigneault discussed Gilgeous-Alexander’s poise and how he thrives under pressure.

Daigneault said, “He never presses. He has incredible situational awareness, awareness of the length of the game; I think that’s one of his superpowers.” “He understands how long the game is. So, he can make the right plays, knowing he’s going to hold his own. If he misses a shot early, he knows there’s still more to play. He’s always in it mentally. I think that’s why he’s as consistent as he is.”

Jaylin Williams finished with 29 points, including a career-high seven threes, and 12 rebounds. Ajay Mitchell’s 24 points led the second unit.

Daigneault said, “I thought his passing tonight was really cool. Even ordinary people weren’t supportive.” “They doubled him all night. He got over it early, like it happened with Ajay [Mitchell] Even late, Ajay got Hardaway there. It’s just a simple game before defense. She played a very good floor game tonight. Obviously, a great finish. A great player.”

Mark Daigneault also saw Gilgeous-Alexander strengthen his case for MVP against Jokic as the Thunder handed the Nuggets their second loss at Paycom Center since a 127–121 overtime win on February 27.

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is one 20+ point game away from making NBA history after matching Wilt Chamberlain’s 126 consecutive games in a 3-point win against the Nuggets on Monday. After the game, Gilgeous-Alexander discussed his approach against the Nuggets, who threw double-team coverage on the reigning MVP.

However, Gilgeous-Alexander adapted and caught fire in the final minute of the game, draining back-to-back threes, including the game-winning triple.

“I didn’t know what I was going to do. I have the answers to the test, but I have to look at the questions first,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, referring to the final game. “Once I saw he was to my left and I was going to the right. I think it was Christian Brown who was in the gap. So, I knew if I drove to shoot the middy, it was probably going to be contested. So, I tried to get away from the three, and took a nice, comfortable shot and it went down.”

The Thunder will host the Celtics on Thursday.

Watch Shai Gilgeous-Alexander pull up Wild’s game-winning 3 vs. Nuggets

The Oklahoma City Thunder were missing several key guys heading into another high-intensity contest against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night. They did not include Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Alex Caruso, to name a few. But as long as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is on the court, the Thunder are almost impossible to stop.

Try as the Nuggets might, Gilgeous-Alexander may just have his numbers. Despite Nikola Jokic’s best efforts to save the Nuggets from dead, the Thunder ultimately won 129-126, thanks to Bonkers Game-Winning Stepback Triple From the current MVP.

With 8.5 seconds left in the game, Gilgeous-Alexander received the ball from Ajay Mitchell out of bounds. The reigning MVP had Spencer Jones draped over him, but it didn’t matter. Gilgeous-Alexander then stepped on Jones before stopping on a dime and then pulled to his right for a tough game-winning triple from which the Nuggets could not come back.

There were about two seconds left on the clock after Gilgeous-Alexander made a three, but the Nuggets no longer had any timeouts. As a result, Aaron Gordon had to throw a layup from approximately 90 feet, which missed the left side of the rim.

This game once again had playoff intensity written all over it, and it will be a treat for neutral observers to see these two heavyweights lose once again in the postseason stage.

Thunder remain the team to beat thanks to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Gilgeous-Alexander has a lot of critics due to being an alleged free-throw merchant. But make no mistake, he is the best pure scorer in the NBA. He can reach his location at will, and remains efficient no matter who guards him. His entire life has been consistent, as he once said, and it shows: He has now scored 20 points or more in 126 consecutive games.

In the win over the Nuggets, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 35 points, nine rebounds and 15 assists in a complete destruction of the Thunder’s biggest rival.

Ajay Mitchell gets positive injury update ahead of Nuggets clash

For the first time since January, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell’s name was not on the injury report, clearing him to return to face the Denver Nuggets on Monday at Paycom Center. Mitchell suffered a stomach strain and a sprained left ankle. Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren is listed as questionable after missing Friday’s 104-97 win against the Golden State Warriors due to illness.

Mitchell, who has emerged as one of Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault’s most reliable guards this season, has rejoined the backcourt, which has filled in for Jared McCann during his absence. Ajay Mitchell is making his return for the Thunder ahead of the highly anticipated rematch of last year’s Western Conference Semifinals best-of-7 series against the Nuggets.

Alex Caruso (left hip) is listed as questionable for the Thunder, while Isaiah Hartenstein (left calf), Jalen Williams during a lengthy rehabilitation for a right hamstring injury, and Brandon Carlson (back) remain out for the defending champions.

Monday’s matchup between the Thunder and Nuggets follows last week’s overtime thriller, which resulted in a 127-121 victory for Oklahoma City. Lou Dort drew a flagrant-2 foul on Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic, ending his night after provoking an angry Jokic, who earned a technical foul for connecting with the Thunder’s Jaylin Williams.

After public backlash, Thunder guard Lou Dort apologized for his flagrant 2 foul on Nuggets All-Star center Nikola Jokic. According to Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic, Dort says he got caught up in the moment and fouled Jokic in a way he regrets.

“It was a physical game the whole game,” Dortch said. “Obviously, there was unnecessary contact that I shouldn’t have made. Getting kicked out of the game hurt me the worst. But yes, it was a high-level game. I’m a competitor, so I compete.”

Fans should expect the same level of intensity in this Western Conference rival between the Thunder and Nuggets, who will meet for the second-to-last time in the regular season on Monday.

Encouraging update on Chet Holmgren’s injury ahead of Nuggets showdown

After missing the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 104-97 win over the Shai Gilgeous-Alexander-led Golden State Warriors, Chet Holmgren could return for Monday night’s contest against the Denver Nuggets. Holmgren, who is battling the flu, is listed as questionable on the Thunder’s injury report along with Alex Caruso (left hip injury). Starters Jalen Williams (right hamstring) and Isaiah Hartenstein are out with a left calf injury.

Outside of Holmgren’s potential return, second-year guard Ajay Mitchell has been cleared to return from an abdominal strain and left ankle sprain that have sidelined him since January.

The Nuggets will look to avenge last week’s 127-121 loss in overtime, where Holmgren helped make things closer with Gilgeous-Alexander, in his first game back from injury, sitting on the bench due to a minutes restriction. Chet finished with 15 points, a career-high 21 rebounds, three assists and three blocks against the Nuggets.

Chet Holmgren reacts to career milestone in Thunder’s win

After Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren recorded a career-high 21 rebounds in a six-point overtime win against the Nuggets, he discussed the importance of reaching such a milestone. Following his first All-Star selection, Holmgren says the success he has had this season is a testament to hard work.

Holmgren said, “I try to put a lot into my body, making sure I get stronger each time. Continue to be as healthy as I can. Take care of yourself.” “I definitely think it’s benefited me, and I’ve gotten better in a lot of different areas, but I think I still have a long way to go with my body, with my game. I don’t want to let one night get too excited for me. I still have work to do.”

Holmgren and the Thunder will host the Nuggets on Monday at Paycom Center.

Is Josh Hart playing tonight? Knicks vs Nuggets injury report

New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets will face each other on Friday night. However, Josh Hart is struggling with injury concerns. Is Hart playing tonight vs the Nuggets?

Hart has played an impressive role with the Knicks. He averaged 11.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per outing in 51 games played. The Knicks are ready to make another run in the postseason, but they will need Hart to reach his full potential in the playoffs.

As far as Friday’s matchup is concerned, Hart’s status is currently in question. Here’s everything we know about his injury status for tonight’s game.

Josh Hart’s injury status vs. Nuggets

Hart is currently listed as questionable to play against the Nuggets.

Friday’s game should be competitive. The Knicks head into play with a 40-23 record, good for third place in the Eastern Conference standings. The 39-24 Nuggets are in fifth place in the Western Conference.

Keeping Hart on the floor will go a long way in helping the Knicks defeat the Nuggets on the road. However, when it comes to the question of whether Josh Hart is playing tonight, the answer is probably.

knicks injury report

The Knicks have three players listed on the injury report for Friday night’s game.

  • Josh Hart (lower back; lower back injury): doubtful
  • Miles McBride (pelvis; core muscle surgery): out
  • Dillon Jones (G League Two-Way): Out

The Nuggets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday with a final score of 120-113. Friday’s game represents the second consecutive game, so Denver’s injury report has not yet been announced.

Deandre Ayton gets encouraging injury update after leaving Nuggets game

The Los Angeles Lakers received a somewhat encouraging update on center Deandre Ayton after he sat out Thursday’s 120-113 loss against the Denver Nuggets due to a knee problem.

Ayton’s night lasted only five minutes, during which the 7-footer collected two rebounds and missed his only field-goal attempt before heading to the locker room. The Lakers did not immediately rule him out, but ultimately he did not return.

After the game, head coach JJ Redick confirmed that Ayton’s early departure was due to left knee soreness, although the exact severity of the problem is unclear. Without his starting center, Redick adjusted the rotation by giving extended minutes to Jackson Hayes and deploying several small-ball lineups.

Hayes took advantage of his opportunity and produced 19 points, five rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes, while shooting 8 of 10 from the field. Los Angeles outscored Denver by seven points while Hayes was on the floor.

Ayton has been a regular presence in the lineup this season and has started more games than any other Laker. Over 54 games, he has averaged 12.6 points, 8.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 0.9 blocks while shooting 66.7% from the field. However, injuries have occasionally hampered his campaigns. Of the eight games he has missed, five were related to knee problems, while four games early in the season were related to right knee soreness. He also sat out two games before the All-Star break due to the same issue.

Recent performance has also declined. In the seven games following the All-Star break, the 27-year-old averaged 9.9 points on 61.6% shooting and 7.6 rebounds, which is below his season production.

Los Angeles lost despite LeBron James’ historic milestone. The 23-year-old veteran passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most field goals made in NBA regular season history, recording the 15,838th basket of his career. James finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals, shooting 7-for-11 (63.6%) from the field before leaving the closing moments with elbow trouble. Luka Doncic contributed 27 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets were paced by Nikola Jokic, who recorded his 23rd triple-double of the season with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists, while Jamal Murray also scored 28 points.

The Lakers, now 37-25, will turn their attention to Friday night’s home game against the Indiana Pacers, when Ayton’s status will become more clear.

LeBron James returns to Nuggets game late after injury scare

The Los Angeles Lakers were giving the Denver Nuggets everything they could handle on Thursday night, even if their starting center Deandre Ayton had to leave after just four minutes with a knee injury. This made the Nikola Jokic matchup more difficult.

The Lakers almost had to deal with being shorthanded even more, because at one point in the fourth quarter, it looked like LeBron James was going to chase Ayton into the locker room with an early exit of his own.

With about four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, James made a hard layup in Jokic’s grill. However, the Lakers star didn’t go down easily; Actually, while doing this he fell on the ground and got injured in his left elbow.

California Post price via Khobi:

James slammed his elbow into the camera, and was slow to get back to his feet. The Lakers then committed a foul to stop the game and then called a timeout to remove James from the field.

But with 2:05 remaining in the period, James returned to play, checking in for Rui Hachimura, with the Lakers trailing the Nuggets by just one, 112–111. In the end, the Lakers didn’t have enough to overcome the Nuggets. The good news is that James escaped serious harm.

Lakers can’t hit shots in tough times vs. Nuggets

The Lakers gambled that they would play short and make enough shots to counter the Nuggets led by Jokic. And it worked to some extent, as LA came back and made it a close game vs. the Nuggets. However, with the Lakers trailing by only three (114-111), they could not hit open shots – Marcus Smart hit two triples on back-to-back possessions.

It was Jokic who scored the dagger in the end, as he made a routine floater to give Denver a five-point lead that proved to be enough for a 120–113 victory.

Deandre Ayton misses remainder of Nuggets game with knee injury

The last thing the Los Angeles Lakers needed for Thursday night’s contest against the Denver Nuggets was for their thin frontcourt to become even weaker. But that’s exactly what happened, because according to Chris Haynes of NBA on Prime, Deandre Ayton was forced out of the game early with a knee injury and will not return to action.

It’s unclear exactly when Ayton suffered the injury, but at least the Lakers considered it serious enough to keep him from continuing with the injury that night. The true extent of the severity of Ayton’s injury should be revealed after the game when the Bahamian big man undergoes more testing.

Ayton played only four minutes before exiting; He recorded only two rebounds in that short amount of time he played against the Nuggets.

Without Ayton, the Lakers will have to rely even more on Jackson Hayes, and head coach JJ Redick may deploy a smaller unit to try to get Jokic on offense.

Of course, this also comes with its fair share of disadvantages; Jokic is the toughest cover in the association on the interior, and the Lakers will have to scramble to try to slow him down and send multiple defenders towards him – potentially opening up the floor for other Nuggets to do damage.

No matter who covers him, Jokic is going to fill up the stat sheet. But the Lakers are at least getting him work on the defensive end. With Ayton out, Redick is really short, Marcus Smart is defending Jokic and trying to get in front of him in the post.

Smart, on the other hand, is getting a lot of open looks from beyond the arc. The Lakers are getting what they need on offense, and if that continues it’s up to them to shoot themselves to victory.

LeBron James breaks another Kareem NBA record against Nuggets

LeBron James is the new king of all-time list.

Already the all-time leader in points in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward broke another record previously held by L.A. legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he made a comeback victory late in the first quarter of Thursday night’s showdown in the Mile High City against the Denver Nuggets.

“LeBron passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for making the most FGs in NBA history with a fadeaway jumper from the baseline (15,838). LeBron has held the scoring title for several years, having more FTs than Kareem, and certainly by a larger margin than 3s (Kareem made a career 3),” as noted by Spectrum Sportsnet’s Mike Trudell.

Stop for a moment to watch this moment where LeBron James finally surpasses the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar again.

It wasn’t an easy shot for the 41-year-old James, as Nuggets forward Zeke Nnaji was on top of him during that game, but the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player was not going to be denied that historic basket.

James, playing in his 23rd season in the NBA, entered the Nuggets game needing only two more buckets to tie Abdul-Jabbar and three more to break the record. He previously held the No. 2 spot, surpassing Utah Jazz legend Karl Malone, who had 13,525 field goals.

Every James basket should be cherished by true basketball fans, because he will not play forever, no matter how he wins his battle against Father Time.

Is Aaron Gordon returning tonight? nuggets vs lakers injury report

The Los Angeles Lakers visit the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night, hoping to continue their three-game winning streak. The Nuggets come into this game coming off an easy win over the struggling Utah Jazz, but still have some injury concerns, including Aaron Gordon.

He is on the injury report along with Peyton Watson and Spencer Jones, with all three players listed out on the official injury report. Gordon is dealing with a right hamstring strain, the Nuggets are also missing Curtis Jones, who is on G League assignment.

Cameron Johnson is listed as questionable, though Gordon himself is close to returning and is expected to play a role in the Nuggets’ game against the New York Knicks, according to Brett Segel of ClutchPoints.

Aaron Gordon injury status vs. Lakers

Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray (27) and forward Aaron Gordon (32) and center Nikola Jokic (15) are on the bench during the second quarter against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Ball Arena.
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Gordon is certain to be out of this match. He has been out of action since January 23 due to a right hamstring strain and will miss the important match.
The Nuggets (38-24) currently hold a slim half-game lead over the Lakers (37-24) in the Western Conference standings. The Lakers come to Ball Arena on a three-game winning streak and will look to take advantage of a Denver defense that has slipped to 21st in the league without players like Gordon and Watson.

Offensively, this game is headed to be a shootout, which is reflected by the massive over/under of 240.5. Denver boasts the NBA’s highest scoring offense, averaging 120.5 points per game. Their anchors are Nikola Jokic, who leads the league in both rebounds (12.6) and assists (10.3), putting up 28.7 points per night, and Jamal Murray, who is fresh off a 45-point masterclass against Utah.

However, the Lakers pose a bigger challenge. They are 3-1 against Denver in the Doncic era, including a 115-107 win on Jan. 20.

LeBron James and Co. are also relatively healthy and the official injury report does not list any players out due to injury. The Lakers’ skid prior to their current win has left them struggling near the top half of the Western Conference table, and a win against Denver will prove crucial as they look to recover.

Anthony Edwards spills the truth on the Nuggets’ double-team strategy

Whenever the Minnesota Timberwolves step onto the hardwood, Anthony Edwards is sure to command any opposing team’s attention. In fact, on Sunday night, Edwards got so much respect from the Denver Nuggets that there was a point in the game where he was drawing double teams as soon as he crossed halfcourt.

In the end, Edwards and the Timberwolves persisted despite the Nuggets’ shameless defensive tactics, as they won 117–108 on the road. The Timberwolves star hasn’t had the best of nights; He finished with only 21 points on 9-19 shooting from the field, which is quite low by his standards, but the defensive attention he attracted opened up the court so much for his teammates.

This speaks volumes about Edwards’ progress as a basketball player he doesn’t care anymore Whether the opposition wants to take the ball out of his hands or not – as long as his team is playing winning basketball.

“It might have been last year or the year before last when I said, ‘Man, they’re double partnering me. I don’t like it.’ At this point, it’s a sign of respect. Because they were double teaming me. They were hitting me from halfcourt. I’m not angry at all because, at the end of the day, my four is better than those three. We’re playing three on four,” Edwards said, via Dan Moore of Blue Wire.

Five other scorers crossed double figures for the Timberwolves, and it was a balanced effort that made this incredible win over another fellow contender in the Nuggets possible. Edwards has become so dangerous as a scorer that the Nuggets were prepared to beat him with everyone they could — which Minnesota did.

The Timberwolves have made a living taking advantage of their opportunities, but have faced a lot of trouble dealing with weaker teams. They will be tested on Tuesday when they take on the struggling Memphis Grizzlies.

David Edelman, Nuggets call out OKC for reaction to Lou Dort’s head-2 on Jokic

Denver Nuggets head coach David Edelman has not defended All-Star Nikola Jokic for his reaction to Lou Dort’s headed 2 in Friday’s 127-121 overtime win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. During his postgame press conference, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault never criticized Dort for his hard-2. Instead, Daigneault hoped that the play would be called the same way if it was reversed, with no malicious intent.

Jokic retaliated by getting in Dort’s face. After this, a scuffle started between Thunder center Jaylin Williams and players of both the teams had to separate. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Edelman understands why Jokic reached his peak during the fourth quarter of the game, when tension was high between the Thunder and Nuggets.

“Yeah, I think that’s him,” Edelman said. “He’s a more measured guy throughout the season — I think most guys are. If they’re measured they’re more productive. But there’s a point where we play these games, and he tackles anybody on the night [would] React that way. For Dort to take that shot – and then I guess it was no big deal from his perspective, how he saw it – is ridiculous.

“He was malicious. It was a cheap shot. Lou Dort is a great player, and I haven’t seen him do that before. But at some point, you’ve got to stand up for yourself, and so does the team. They’re a great team. That game itself was like that. But, yeah, Nicola, he’s who he is, man. You can’t have the success he’s had and you can’t be as competitive. He’s got emotions that he keeps in control, but he’s a guy emotionally. Very capable and very willing to provide feedback.”

Apparently, the Nuggets’ David Edelman is not happy with how the Thunder responded to Dort’s foul after the game. When Jokic was asked about it by a reporter during media availability after the game, he didn’t hold back.

“There’s no such thing – I think things like that shouldn’t happen on a basketball floor,” Jokic said after the game. “So, it was an unnecessary move by me and a necessary reaction.”

The Thunder will host the Nuggets again on March 9 at Paycom Center.

Mark Daigneault’s opinion on the ejection of Thunder’s Lou Dort

After Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault called Lou Dort’s flagrant 2 on Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic uncharacteristic of him, All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander said he didn’t see the play that made Jokic angry. Nuggets head coach David Edelman would probably have a different opinion. Officials deemed Dort’s play beyond the reach of the Nuggets’ MVP candidate, ruling out the veteran guard after an extensive review.

After the game, Daigneault chalked up Dort’s play to the Thunder guard’s competitive nature amid the fourth quarter of a physical matchup against the Nuggets.

“That was a weird game. These are two teams that played each other in a seven-game series. We’re in the same division. We’ve played each other 100 times,” Daigneault said. “They know our playbook. We know their playbook. It is what it is. It’s going to be an imperfect game, and things escalate like that sometimes. I know Lu [Dort]. I know [Nikola] Jokic.

“I know J-Will. I don’t think anybody is trying to hurt anybody; they’re just great competitors. It just ended up being over. I think it was nothing more than that.”

The Thunder will face the Mavericks on the road on Sunday.

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Prediction, Odds, Picks

The Denver Nuggets have lost two of their last three games and will now host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Ball Arena in Denver. Minnesota comes into this game off of two consecutive wins, the latest win being away from home against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Both teams are 37-23 on the season, leading to a head-to-head tie for the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference. Denver enters the Draft as a slight home favorite on DraftKings to move on from Friday’s loss against Oklahoma City, which was a repeat of last year’s conference semifinals.

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Odds

  • Minnesota Timberwolves: +2.5 (-110)
  • Denver Nuggets: -2.5 (-110)
  • Above: 237.5 (-110)
  • Under: 237.5 (-110)

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Major Injuries

Denver Nuggets The Nuggets’ depth will once again be tested with several high-profile absentees. Anthony Gordon is set to be out along with Peyton Watson, who are both dealing with hamstring issues. Tamar Bates is a long-term absence while Spencer Jones is questionable and Cameron Johnson is probable.

The Timberwolves are relatively healthy and their injury situation is nearly clear. They have listed Julius Randle as questionable due to lower back spasms.

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Betting Trends

Denver has won the last three head-to-head meetings against Minnesota, including a 142-138 overtime thriller in their last matchup. The Timberwolves have failed to cover the spread in four consecutive games.

Conversely, Denver is a perfect 3-0 ATS in its last three games against Minnesota. Denver has seen the over hit in 38 of its 60 games this season (63.3%). The Nuggets have been excellent in coverage on the road (21-12), but have struggled a bit in ball arenas, posting a 13-14 ATS home record.

Keys to the Timberwolves vs. Nuggets matchup

The outcome of this game depends on Denver’s ability to work around Nikola Jokic’s traditional talent. The Nuggets have performed well as a unit and have averaged 120.5 points per game on overall shooting on 49% from the field.

Much will depend on the infighting between Rudy Gobert and Jokic, with Jamal Murray also coming into form recently, giving the Nuggets another significant scoring threat. However, the Timberwolves will hope Anthony Edwards can take over.

The All-Star has been poor throughout the campaign, averaging 29.6 points on the season. Minnesota will be determined to use the Nuggets’ thin rotation to dominate important stretches of the game.

Timberwolves vs. Nuggets Predictions and Selections

While the Timberwolves are headed on the road, it’s hard to ignore Denver’s historic lead in this specific matchup. The Nuggets have won the last three times between these teams, and Jokic usually finds a way to neutralize Gobert’s rim protection by staying away from the paint, especially in the presence of Murray.

Chet Holmgren reacts to career milestone in win vs. Nuggets

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren topped his career night by helping lead his team to a 127-121 victory in overtime against All-Star Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. After Lou Dort’s ouster For a key 2 against Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t double check for overtime. Holmgren finished with 15 points on 5 of 8 shooting, a career-high 21 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and a steal against the Nuggets.

After his first All-Star appearance, Chet Holmgren captures a title Career high 21 rebounds It’s a testament to the work he’s put in behind the scenes, as he heads into just his fourth season with the Thunder.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 36 points, nine assists, two blocks and two steals in his first appearance in nine games for the Thunder. Oklahoma City improved to 46–15.

Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn’t hold back his emotions about missing overtime during Friday’s showdown against fellow MVP candidate Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets. After leading the Thunder to erase a 16-point deficit in the second half, Gilgeous-Alexander was forced to miss the rest of the game. He reached his scheduled minutes for his first game back after suffering an abdominal strain.

Still, that didn’t make the process any easier, as Gilgeous-Alexander cheered the Thunder against the Nuggets from the bench during the final period of the game.

“I hate it. I can’t wait for the minutes restriction to go away,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “But if I rehash this injury, it won’t make any difference. So, that’s the way I look at it.”

Shai-Gilgeous Alexander’s immediate reaction to not playing in OT vs. Nuggets

OKLAHOMA CITY – With Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander playing in his first game since January, coach Mark Daigneault and his coaching staff came up with a plan to monitor the reigning MVP’s minutes. In a 127–121 win against the Denver Nuggets, the Thunder won in overtime without Gilgeous-Alexander. Still, the fact remains that Shai could only sit and watch from the bench after helping Oklahoma City erase a 16-point deficit.

However, Gilgeous-Alexander got closer to Daigneault’s 34-minute mark and the Thunder were set for the night. After scoring 36 points, nine assists, two blocks and two steals in his first game in 24 days, there was nothing else Gilgeous-Alexander could impact Friday’s overtime thriller.

“I hate it. Can’t wait for the minutes restriction to be over. But if I get this injury again, it won’t make a difference. So, that’s how I look at it.”

Thunder starting center Isaiah Hartenstein, returning from a calf injury, was on the same minutes restriction as Gilgeous-Alexander. Thunder All-Star Chet Holmgren, who finished with a career-high 21 rebounds, led the defending champions with Cason Wallace, Isaiah Joe and Jaylin Williams closing out the victory for Hartenstein. Alex Caruso also played in overtime.

In a game that featured a scuffle with Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic and resulted in the ejection of Thunder veteran Lou Dort, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault explained his decision to bench reigning MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

“He’s coming off a 24-day injury. He’s coming back to play. One of the conditions to get him on the court tonight is to hold him to a certain point in terms of minutes,” Daigneault said. “We actually discussed that situation with both him and [Hartenstein] Before the game. Just so we can all be clear, in a non-emotional moment, that if we were in that situation, this is what we would do.

“We obviously did that. I understand it’s a little unconventional, but, at the end of the day, we’re trying to prioritize the health of our players as they come back from injury.”

Mark Daigneault’s opinion on Lou Dort’s ejection after Nikola Jokic scuffle in OKC win vs. Nuggets

OKLAHOMA CITY – Following Friday’s 127-121 win in overtime, Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault gave his honest opinion on Lou Dort’s fourth quarter ejection for a scuffle with Denver Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic. The two were forced to separate, which led to a physical altercation between Thunder centers Jaylin Williams and Jokic. Both centers received double technical fouls, while Dort’s night ended in the fourth quarter.

Daigneault addressed Dort after the victory fourth trimester ejection Coming off of their seven-game series in the Western Conference Semifinals, he reminded reporters how familiar his Thunder team is to the Nuggets.

One could argue that Nikola Jokic took his frustration out on Lou Dort’s lead-2 layup on Williams, who defended his teammate, as most centers in the NBA do. This likely played into the referee’s decision to keep Jokic in the game, causing him and Jaylin to be slapped with a double technical foul.

Daigneault’s only hope is that if the situation were reversed, Jokic would be heading to the locker room because of a major-2.

“I will say this: If J-Will is running upfield and slips, we expect a flagrant -2 from this point forward. That’s all,” Daigneault said. “If that’s the precedent, if it becomes a malicious game, and Major-2 is the line in the sand on that, then we would expect that if it’s J-Will. We would expect that if it’s anyone. And if that’s the case, we’re good.”

Williams finished with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and a block off the bench before closing out the Thunder’s victory in overtime.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault sat Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in overtime of Friday’s win against the Nuggets. Due to an abdominal injury that caused him to miss the Thunder’s last nine games, Gilgeous-Alexander was on a one-minute ban that went on unannounced before the defending champions’ showdown against the Nuggets.

Daigneault explained what was a factor in the Thunder decision Gilgeous-Alexander was benched after the fourth quarter.

“He’s coming off a 24-day injury. He’s coming back to play. One of the conditions to get him on the court tonight is to hold him to a certain point in terms of minutes,” Daigneault said. “We actually discussed that situation with both him and [Hartenstein] Before the game. Gilgeous-Alexander’s 36 points, nine assists, three rebounds, two blocks and two steals led to a 16-point comeback by the Thunder in the second half before the defending champions won in overtime without their reigning MVP.

Mark Daigneault explains why SGA stayed out of OT in Nuggets loss

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault watched All-Star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dominate for four quarters before sitting out the extra period of Friday’s 127-121 overtime win against the Denver Nuggets. In the Western Conference Semifinal rematch, the physical relationship between the two teams began with a flourish, as Gilgeous-Alexander earned a technical foul against Nikola Jokic in the first quarter.

However, Daigneault and Gilgeous-Alexander, returning after missing the previous nine games due to an abdominal injury, scored a set Unannounced minutes restriction He continued doing his work. Gilgeous-Alexander played just under 34 minutes (33:46) in regulation, which Daigneault pointed to as the end of SGA’s night regardless of game status.

While starting center Isaiah Hartenstein was under the same restriction due to a calf strain, Jaylin Williams finished the game, as Jared McCann started the extra period in place of the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

“Incredible effort by the people who were there. The rest of the team had no idea we had that conversation,” Daigneault said. “We took over the MVP and our starter at the beginning of overtime, and they attacked that game. They deserve a lot of credit for that.”

Gilgeous-Alexander had 36 points, nine assists, three rebounds, two blocks and two steals as the Thunder rebounded by 16 points in the second half. Chet Holmgren finished with a career-high 21 rebounds, 15 points and three blocks. Jared McCann led the bench with 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting, including a pair of threes.

Thunder veteran Lou Dort earned a crucial 2-0 with 8:03 remaining in the fourth quarter by outplaying Nuggets All-Star Nikola Jokic, which led to a physical altercation between the MVP candidate and Thunder center Jaylin Williams.

After review, officials deemed Lu Dort’s foul against Nikola Jokic “unnecessary and excessive”, upgrading his simple foul to a serious foul penalty two and ejecting him from the game. Williams and Jokic received double technical fouls, ending Dort’s night.

Jokic finished with an impressive triple-double (23 points, 17 rebounds, 14 assists) as the Nuggets lost to the Thunder by six points in overtime.

Is Gilgeous-Alexander returning tonight? thunder vs nuggets injury report

The Oklahoma City Thunder (45-15) are set to host the Denver Nuggets (37-22) for a blockbuster Northwest Division clash on Friday night at Paycom Center. Denver comes in with the NBA’s No. 1 offense (120.7 offensive rating), while Oklahoma City faces the league’s toughest defense (106.4 defensive rating).

However, all eyes are on the Thunder’s superstar point guard, who has been sidelined ahead of the All-Star break. And well, OKC fans will be happy to know that Shai-Gilgeous Alexander is completely off the official injury list for the defending champions, which means he is set to make his return after already being cleared.

OKC still has injury concerns as Jalen Williams, Ajay Mitchell, Thomas Sorber and Brandon Carlson are still out. The same is true for the Nuggets, who still have Jamal Murray listed as questionable along with several names on the injury list.

Is Jamal Murray playing tonight? nuggets vs warriors injury report

The Denver Nuggets visit the Golden State Warriors on Sunday afternoon looking to build on the massive 157-point performance they scored against the Portland Trail Blazers last time out. However, while they have plenty of absent players to deal with, the Nuggets will be up against a team that is missing its best players.

According to the official injury report, Jamal Murray is on the injury report along with several Nuggets rotation players, while the star guard is listed as questionable due to a hamstring issue. Denver is also monitoring injuries to Aaron Gordon and Peyton Watson.

However, the Golden State Warriors have bigger concerns of their own, with Stephen Curry confirmed out, Jimmy Butler with Kristaps Porzingis also added to the injury list.

Given that Jamal Murray is questionable on the injury report, his availability will likely be determined closer to tip-off. Of course, given that he is having the best season of his career, he will likely be a big absence.

Murray is averaging 25.7 points, 7.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds, while posting an elite 61.5 true shooting percentage. His importance has increased even more without Nikola Jokic, with Murray upping his production to 27.8 points and 8.3 assists in 12 games.

Denver enters the game with a strong 21-10 road record as the No. 3 seed at 36-21, while Golden State is 29-27 and struggling without Stephen Curry. Despite this, the game promises to be close with both teams missing key players, especially Golden State.

Nuggets led by Nikola Jokic beat Trail Blazers by 54

The Denver Nuggets needed a response after a tough loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night.

He presented one emphatically. On Friday night, the Nuggets destroyed the Portland Trail Blazers 157-103.

Nikola Jokic led the way and produced his best performance since returning from injury. He finished the night with 32 points on 10 of 15 shooting. He was also 3-of-4 from three-point range.

“We played really well. Everybody stepped up, everybody played with a lot of energy,” Jokic said. “The defense was playing at a high level. We were making shots. We had a good start, in fact, it was a perfect game for us.”

Nuggets bounce back with huge win over Trail Blazers

The Nuggets’ 157 points are the most points scored by any team this season. From a franchise perspective, this is the seventh-highest score in franchise history. The 54-point margin of victory is also the second largest in franchise history.

“We were creating open looks. The ball was going in, that’s when you feel confident,” Jokic added. “We were there playing for each other.”

The entire Nuggets roster had a stellar performance, with seven players finishing the night in double figures. Jamal Murray was lethal from deep, scoring 6 of 12 on three-point attempts. He would finish the night with 25 points, six rebounds and six assists. Julian Strother, who was placed in the starting lineup, continued his hot streak with 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting. Whenever Strother was on the court, the Nuggets were an amazing +48.

The Nuggets will conclude their short road trip by visiting the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.

Yang Hansen, Nikola Jokic linked up ahead of Nuggets showdown

The Moda Center felt like a dream sequence Friday night when Portland Trail Blazers rookie Yang Hansen finally came face to face with his basketball idol, Nikola Jokic. For Hansen, a 7-foot-1 center often dubbed the “Chinese Jokic” for his excellent passing and high basketball IQ, it wasn’t just another game on the schedule; It was a meeting that took months in the making.

The two ran into each other near mid-court during pregame warmups, a light-hearted moment that certainly calmed some of the 20-year-old rookie’s nerves. Hansen has been vocal about his admiration for the Denver Nuggets superstar since Portland selected him 16th overall last summer.

He even famously joked during All-Star weekend that he “can’t wait to kiss” the three-time MVP. Jock, always wise, had previously set a humorous condition for a photo op: he would only take a photo if Hansen promised to play poorly against him.

Kawhi Leonard calls Benedict Mathurin a “great pickup” after 38 point game vs. Nuggets

Kawhi Leonard and the LA Clippers got a big win against one of the NBA’s best teams on Thursday night thanks to the contributions of freshman shooting guard Benedict Mathurin.

The fourth-year guard was traded to the Clippers on the day of the NBA trade deadline in a package that brought Isaiah Jackson and some draft picks to Los Angeles in exchange for All-Defensive center Ivica Zubac.

In his third game with the team since the acquisition – and his first game inside the Intuit Dome as a Clipper – Mathurin led the Clippers’ comeback win.

Benedict Mathurin scored 38 points in his first game at home, leading the Clippers to a 115–114 win over Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. The guard shot 12 of 22 from the field and 12 of 13 from the free throw line in the win, scored 11 points off the bench in the first quarter and poured in 16 points in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

“He’s doing it,” Kawhi Leonard said of his new teammate. “It’s great to have another scorer that can get 30 points, saw him in the NBA Finals [against the Oklahoma City Thunder]. “He was doing that all year with the Pacers, in the finals last year, so it’s great to have him.”

Mathurin had some big performances for the Indiana Pacers last season, including a 27-point performance in Game 3, helping his team take a 2–1 series lead, and a 24-point, 13-rebound performance in Game 7, after Tyrese Haliburton ruptured his Achilles tendon.

“He’s been aggressive since he’s been playing with us, but it was great,” Leonard said. “Like you said, he scored 11 in the first, and he continued it from there. He came out in transition, made some layups, hit some big three-point shots. Guarded very well, so it’s been a great pickup.”

Benedict Mathurin has increased his scoring, rebounding and assists for three consecutive seasons, but now he has a chance to develop a consistency that was not available to him at Indiana under head coach Rick Carlisle.

“It’s going to be amazing [playing under head coach Tyronn Lue],” Mathurin said after last night’s win. “He might end up being my best friend.” He told me to be aggressive, man. He told me how I am, and I feel like he really knows my game. He knows exactly what I can do. So, I’m glad to have him as our coach and I think with everyone together we can do great things.”

Thursday night was also the second consecutive game in which Mathurin reached double-digit free throw attempts, displaying the ability to not only score at a high level, but also pressure the defense and get to the free throw line, where he shot 83.6 percent for his career.

Benedict Mathurin breaks silence after dropping 38 points in home debut vs. Nuggets

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The LA Clippers begin the post-All-Star break portion of their season with a matchup against the powerful Denver Nuggets, led by three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. The game got off to a bad start for the Clippers. That is, until Benedict Mathurin checked in.

Denver blew a 13-4 lead over the Clippers in Thursday night’s contest, trapping Kawhi Leonard 30 feet from the basket and forcing him to make other players. Benedict Mathurin checked in midway through the third quarter and immediately contributed 11 points off the bench in six minutes of the first quarter.

This was a far cry from the Mathurin everyone saw debuting for the Clippers against the Houston Rockets a week ago, and it was exactly what the Clippers needed against the Nuggets.

“We had a conversation during the first game in Houston,” head coach Tyronn Lue said of Benedict Mathurin. “I thought he was really passive, turned down some shots, wasn’t aggressive. I pulled him to the sideline during a timeout and told him, ‘You’ve got to be aggressive, you’ve got to be who you are, and we’ll figure out the rest.’ We needed everything we got tonight. “He’s aggressive, getting to the basket, getting to the free throw line and making some big shots for us.”

Mathurin not only made a strong start to the Clippers’ offense and did not give up all night. In his third game since the trade deadline deal that traded him to the Indiana Pacers, Benedict Mathurin recorded a Clippers franchise record for points in a home debut. The Clippers guard led the way with 38 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the field and 12-of-13 from the free throw line.

“Man, this is going to be awesome [playing for Tyronn Lue],” Mathurin said after the win. He could be my best friend. He told me to be aggressive, man. He told me to be myself, and I feel like he really knows my game. He really knows what I can do. It’s been a pleasure to have him as a coach. And I think by bringing everybody together, we can do a lot of great things.”

Kawhi Leonard, who was battling an illness, recorded 23 points, four rebounds and three assists, but saw double-teams and traps all night by the Nuggets defense that made it difficult for him to find a rhythm. However, he had a 10-point third quarter that helped the Clippers clinch the win in the minutes that Benedict Mathurin was off the field.

“Business went so fast, man,” Mathurin said. “I found time to talk [Kawhi] A little bit, just to meet him after the All-Stars. Great boy! We’re trying to build that relationship as quickly as possible so we can make a deep run in the playoffs.

Mathurin started the game with 11 points in the opening period and finished his 38-point performance with 16 points in the final frame.

“It’s fun to see how happy my teammates were for me,” Mathurin said after the win. “Just winning, actually winning my second game with the team. So far, so good.”

Mathurin recorded his second straight game with double-digit free throw attempts, repeatedly displaying the ability to take contact, finish through contact and get to the free throw line.

“I think I’ve always been aggressive, just getting to the rim,” Mathurin said after the win. “That’s one of my biggest strengths. So I think, you know, just knowing when to take a shot or be aggressive is kind of the difference between those two.”

In three games so far with the Clippers, Benedict Mathurin has averaged 21 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.0 steals in 30 minutes per game.

The Clippers are back in action on Friday night when they take on the Los Angeles Lakers inside Staples Center, the second game of a back-to-back set.

Clippers’ Benedict Mathurin makes franchise history with nuclear game vs. Nuggets

When the Los Angeles Clippers traded James Harden and Ivica Zubac, they made it clear that they were rebuilding rather than completely rebuilding. Steve Ballmer invested nearly $2 billion in Intuit Dome, so he might not want to hit the reset button. Instead, the organization has added youth to the NBA’s oldest team. Newcomer Benedict Mathurin thrilled the crowd in LA’s first home game since the aforementioned trades, making history in a 115–114 win against the Denver Nuggets.

The former Indiana Pacers wing, who was included in the Zubac deal, scored a game-high 38 points in 34 minutes off the bench, while shooting 54.5 percent from the field and recording five rebounds, four assists and three steals. According to ClutchPoints reporter Tomer Azarli, he set a new scoring record for a Clippers player debuting on his home field and also matched a career high. That was not all.

Appropriately, Mathurin passed Jamal Crawford for most points by a reserve in his LA debut. This squad has a new offensive spark plug, and he is only 23 years old. After making an impressive debut against the Houston Rockets last Wednesday, the young Canadian won over Clippers fans by outclassing several competitors, including Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard and Jamal Murray.

Benedict Mathurin will be a restricted free agent this summer, but it stands to reason Los Angeles will want to lock him up for the foreseeable future. Tyronn Lue’s team is now just one game below .500, and Darius Garland still isn’t in tune. Although it’s not what City had envisioned, there is certainly excitement in the air after this hard-fought victory.

Nuggets still need to make 1 move to fill out roster after 2026 NBA trade deadline

The 2025-26 season was supposed to be a watershed moment of sorts for the Denver Nuggets, as they added some new pieces to their core four of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Aaron Gordon, and Christian Braun, and this new depth was going to make them unbeatable, especially in the postseason.

However, this campaign has been particularly unforgiving for the Nuggets on the injury front, with players like Jokic, Gordon, Braun, new addition Cam Johnson and now breakout star Peyton Watson missing significant time with significant innings. Of course, the goal for the Nuggets is simply to complete the rigors of the regular season together, and given their situation at present, even that is not certain.

Whatever the case, the Nuggets have called on some unlikely contributors to step up, and credit to them. But the Nuggets front office knows time is ticking. Their salary cap obligations are about to increase significantly, as Watson is set for a new big contract. To retain Watson, the Nuggets will have to dive into the luxury tax if they choose to keep their current roster together for the next few seasons.

This prompted them to pull off a salary dump trade before the deadline, sending former second-round pick Hunter Tyson along with a 2032 second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets just to avoid the luxury tax. They were $1.8 million under the luxury tax before the move was made to comply with the 14-roster size requirement following the Tyson trade.

In an ideal world, the Nuggets would have unlimited resources, and they could put their core together without being overly cautious of the punitive nature of the luxury tax under the current CBA. Alas, the Nuggets are not living in an ideal world.

Paying luxury tax is not really a problem when a person is careless. Of course, this plays a factor, as owners are at least very adamant about not wasting money, but the roster move restrictions that come with being in the first or even second apron make roster construction much more difficult.

The Nuggets wanted to get into the tax bracket to reset their timer for at least this season, because their hand will be forced very soon. Nonetheless, they finalized the facilitated transaction of converting Spencer Jones’ contract to a standard contract, making him eligible for the postseason.

Jones is one of the players the Nuggets have relied on to help their injured starters. In fact, the 24-year-old sophomore has made 34 starts for the Nuggets this season, which is nothing short of a huge developmental win for a team that needs some cost-effective but productive players to fill out the roster.

Jones plays unselfishly and he shoots efficiently, and considering how important he has been this season, it was no easy task for the Nuggets to turn his deal into a standard one. His impact doesn’t go beyond the stat sheet, but as a 6’7″ wing who can shoot and defend at multiple positions, he is invaluable to a team with contending aspirations.

However, the problem is that the Nuggets were able to convert his contract to a prorated minimum deal for the remainder of the season instead of signing him to a multi-year contract, which would keep him in the Mile High City on an affordable arrangement for the next few seasons.

With this agreement, Jones will be eligible for restricted free agency this summer, and if he makes seven more starts for the Nuggets, he will be eligible for a qualifying offer of $5.9 million – further reducing the Nuggets flexibility amid their current troubles clearing the salary cap.

At least, the Nuggets now have Johnson and Braun healthy, and they’ve been riding the hot hand of Julian Strother lately, reducing their need to rely on Jones to fill in as the starter. It was going to be difficult for the Nuggets to keep Jones out of the starting lineup as his situation has not improved on the injury front, but now, they have a legitimate reason to bring him off the bench.

But it seems that the hard part is just beginning for the Nuggets.

Denver’s bill is coming due

The Nuggets were absolutely impressed by Braun’s 2024-25 campaign, as he made the move after Kentavious Caldwell-Pope left in free agency. Braun signed a five-year, $125 million contract extension – a significant commitment for the Nuggets knowing their cap obligations at the time.

Braun has struggled this season with 36 missed games, a huge decline from last season. And the Nuggets have since seen Watson take the next step in his development, blossoming into a legitimate shot creator on the wing and a far more well-rounded two-way threat than Braun.

Watson is set to enter restricted free agency in the summer, and the Nuggets will have to pay more than $20 million per season to retain Watson. Denver has some tough decisions to make moving forward, and that’s without considering what it would take to keep Jones on a long-term contract.

Cutting Zeke Nnaji’s salary is a way for the Nuggets to make room, and so is moving Johnson out. However, the Nuggets hardly have any assets left to sweeten salary-dump trades, and losing Johnson would be costly, as he’s shooting over 43 percent from deep this season and is on an affordable contract anyway.

Will the Nuggets let Braun go to make room for Watson? This seems like a possible route Denver could take. But his best bet for maintaining his status as a title-contender during Jockey’s prime is to endure the tax hit for at least a year before making a change if he really has to.

Winning fixes everything. And for a Nuggets team that is about to be financially ruined, all the blood they shed will be worth it if they hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy in June.

Chet Holmgren points to health when asked about Nuggets’ growth

During his first appearance at All-Star weekend, a reporter asked Oklahoma City Thunder forward Chet Holmgren about the growth he has seen with the Denver Nuggets. The Thunder’s Holmgren discussed his personal growth this season ahead of his first All-Star Game selection. However, he was hesitant to talk about how much the Nuggets have improved as a team.

Instead, Holmgren discussed the injuries the Nuggets have experienced this season, much like the Thunder’s injury-plagued campaign.

“Denver has some different players on the roster who have taken some steps this summer,” Holmgren said. “They were a really good team last year. They’re a really good team this year. They’ve had some injuries, as we have, as everybody in the league has. Hopefully, they can get those guys back, and we can get all our guys back. At the end of the day, every team wants to be completely healthy and playing at their best. So, that’s what we’re hoping for.”

The Nuggets were without All-Star Nikola Jokic for more than a month. The Thunder have been missing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the last five games. Oklahoma City has also struggled with injuries to Jalen Williams, who has missed 30+ games this season; starting center Isaiah Hartenstein, who has missed 16 games; And Ajay Mitchell, who has been out since January 21.

Thunder forward Chet Holmgren discusses the new All-Star Game format after making his debut in the star-studded event. Holmgren reflected on career milestones.

Holmgren said, “I thought it was good. I thought everybody out there was playing a good brand of basketball.” “It felt like, I guess you would say, a pick-up game, and when there’s that level of talent on the field, it’s always fun, it’s always good.”

He also talked about the ring he received for his All-Star selection, which was unexpected for Holmgren.

Holmgren said, “It was pretty cool. I didn’t know you could get an All-Star ring until I got it.” “So, it was pretty cool. It comes with a little box with a little video in it. It’s too bad, but I think I like our ring from last year a little more.”

Holmgren says he treasures the moment of his first All-Star Game.

“I definitely tried to take a moment during pictures yesterday and then warming up and playing the game today and think what a great opportunity this is,” Holmgren said. “I felt like I was beautiful most of the time. Just taking it all in.”

Holmgren and the Thunder resume their regular season schedule when they host the Nets on Friday.

Nuggets news: Nikola Jokic criticizes haters who question his drive: ‘I care a lot’

Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic hit back at his critics over his level of commitment to basketball.

Jokic is playing the 11th season of his NBA career with the Nuggets. He earned his place as one of the best players in the entire league, often making it look easy with his elite skill set.

How simple it seems has left critics debating whether the veteran superstar has cared enough about the game over the past few seasons. Jokic finally addressed those things during an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, and dismissed the idea that he doesn’t care.

“There are a lot of people who say, ‘Well how much does he care?'” Andrews asked.

Joc responded, “I care a lot. …I think if you don’t care about winning you shouldn’t be in this game.”

What’s next for Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets?

It’s clear that Nikola Jokic has proven himself to be a dedicated winner in the NBA for a long time. That was especially the case throughout his tenure with the Nuggets, leading them to the mountaintop with a 2023 championship.

Jokic continues to be remarkable throughout the 2025-26 season. He averaged 28.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 10.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game in 39 games. He is shooting 59% from the field, including 42% from beyond the arc and 84% from the free-throw line.

Denver compiled a 35–20 record on the season and finished third in the Western Conference standings. They are one game up on the Houston Rockets and 1.5 games up on the Los Angeles Lakers. However, they trail the San Antonio Spurs by 3.5 games and the Oklahoma City Thunder by 6.5 games.

With the All-Star break over, the Nuggets will resume action with a three-game road trip. They will face the Los Angeles Clippers on February 19 at 10:30 PM ET, the Portland Trail Blazers on February 20 at 10 PM ET, and the Golden State Warriors on February 22 at 3:30 PM ET.
