San Francisco 49ers cast doubt on adding star pass-rusher

The San Francisco 49ers have been busy adding impact players on both sides of the ball this offseason. On offense, potential future Hall of Fame receiver Mike Evans is the headliner. On defense, it’s Osa Odighizuwa, an $80 million defensive tackle.

Still, rumors have continued to link the 49ers to an even bigger addition on defense. Then what is the hindrance?

On Sunday, 49ers general manager John Lynch addressed popular rumors of the 49ers signing Joey Bosa to pair with his brother, Nick, in San Francisco. Only, the GM suggests the 49ers may not be able to afford him.

“I know Mama Bosa would love it, but I don’t know if we can afford it,” Lynch said, via Matt Barrows of TheAthletic.com.

It is not known what the asking price of Bosa is in the open market. However since he is unsigned and not officially linked to any team other than the 49ers, it’s possible his agent is asking for too much. In fact, Lynch’s comments may have been his attempt to take down Bosa’s market. Whether or not this will actually work remains to be seen, but it never hurts to try.

Bosa, 30, spent last season with the Bills, where he recorded five sacks and an NFL-high five forced fumbles in 15 starts. He hasn’t had a double-digit sack season since 2021, yet he achieved Pro Bowl status in 2024, his final season with the Chargers.

With 77 sacks in 10 seasons, it shouldn’t take long for Bosa to find another opportunity. But as Lynch indicated, he may have to lower his asking price first.

Philadelphia Eagles interested in trading for Pro Bowl pass-rusher

It may be the offseason, but it’s a busy time for Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. Roseman, who has always been active in the free agency and trade markets, has made several additions on the sidelines. But the Eagles haven’t made any major changes. As yet.

Possibly the biggest move the Eagles made is the signing of wide receiver Hollywood Brown. But the Eagles have a bigger acquisition in mind; We don’t know if they can accomplish it yet or not.

according to athleticZach Berman, the Eagles are still “interested” in trading for the Vikings’ Pro Bowl pass-rusher Jonathan Greenard.

“Edge rusher is a big position to watch, even with Abiketi. Greenard is challenging to predict because it requires compensation in a trade and with a new deal, but the interest is there.”

Jonathan Greenard/Zack Berman of The Athletic on the Eagles

Greenard reportedly wants a contract adjustment two years after signing a four-year, $76 million deal with the Vikings as a free agent. Still, like the Eagles, the Vikings are tight on budget, and Greenard recorded just three sacks while missing five games due to injury last season.

For now, Greenard has a cap hit of $22.1 million for 2026. He’ll turn 29 in May, but is just a year away from recording 12 sacks for the second consecutive season.

The Vikings are said to be asking at least a second-day draft pick in return. Minnesota also has Pro Bowl pass-rusher Andrew Van Ginkel and 2024 first-round pick Dallas Turner manning the edge rusher positions, but Greenard is arguably one of their best defenders.

Philadelphia Eagles ‘in contact’ about trading Pro Bowl pass-rusher

It feels like the Philadelphia Eagles acquire a new pass-rusher every offseason. This trend could continue in 2026 as the future of 37-year-old Brandon Graham is up in the air.

For now, Jelix Hunt and Nolan Smith Jr. are viewed as the Eagles’ starting edge rushers, but that tandem has combined for just 9.5 sacks in 2025. Elite players outperform all of those numbers, and the Eagles are strongly considering a move for the Pro Bowl edge rusher.

according to athleticDiana Russini has been in contact with the Minnesota Vikings about trading Eagles edge rusher Jonathan Greenard. The Vikings, who are subject to cap constraints, are reportedly thinking about trading Greenard this offseason, and they are asking for at least a Day 2 pick in exchange for the 28-year-old.

The Eagles actually appear to be close to a trade, as they have been in contact with Greenard’s agent about a potential new contract, should a trade occur. He reportedly wants a new deal after signing a four-year, $76 million contract with the Vikings as a free agent in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Vikings have no interest in giving Greenard a raise after recording just three sacks in 10 games last season. Thus, a trade seems like a very real possibility for a Vikings team that also has Andrew Van Ginkel and Dallas Turner at cornerback position.

Dallas Cowboys ‘thought’ they made a trade for Pro Bowl pass-rusher

Jerry Jones has never been afraid to make a big deal. The Dallas Cowboys have proven this time and again. Whether it’s a record-setting contract extension or trading their best player a week before the season starts, the Cowboys aren’t afraid to be bold.

Nevertheless, the Cowboys are still looking to replace the pass-rushing production that Micah Parsons was known for. That could change this offseason. Obviously, the Cowboys have already tried.

According to ESPN’s Trey Wingo, the Cowboys “thought” they completed a trade for Maxx Crosby last night. Nevertheless, the Las Vegas Raiders backed out after receiving several other offers, including a first-round pick, for the five-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher.

Wingo reports that the Cowboys now plan to sign Trey Hendrickson in free agency, where he won’t have to part with any draft compensation.

“Things are moving quickly regarding Max Crosby. Last night Dallas thought they were close to a deal, but since then other teams have stepped up the excitement and potentially offering the Raiders 2nd round pick, hopefully Dallas will now turn their attention to Trey Hendrickson.”

ESPN’s Trey Wingo on Dallas Cowboys/Max Crosby

If Wingo’s report is accurate, it means the Raiders are indeed not only willing to trade Crosby, but they may also be close to making a deal. Previous reports indicated that a Crosby trade could be conducted as soon as “this week.”

While the Cowboys appear to be trading out Crosby, other teams are apparently willing to break the bank for the 28-year-old sack artist. The Raiders have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but they will likely gain another first-round selection because of the Crosby trade. Perhaps that selection could be an attempt to replace Crosby.

Carolina Panthers express interest in Pro Bowl pass-rusher

Some teams are cutting costs this time of year. The Carolina Panthers haven’t felt forced to move on from any of their overpriced veterans. But the changes could help free up about $10 million more in projected cap space.

Once free agency begins, the Panthers could be active as they look to improve the roster. This could include adding a Pro Bowl player to the mix.

Panthers general manager Dan Morgan spoke to the media at the NFL Combine on Tuesday. While doing so, he revealed that the team would be signing two-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Bradley Chubb, who had recently been released by the Dolphins.

“I don’t think anything is going to come out of the conversation,” Morgan said. “We’ll track him down, we’ll talk to his agent, but I won’t say anything forthcoming, but we’ll definitely stay on top of that, and we’ll see where he goes.”

Morgan said the 29-year-old Chubb is “still playing at a really good level.”

Chubb started all 17 games for the Dolphins last season, and recorded 8.5 sacks in the process. It was a strong performance, considering he missed the entire 2024 season with a torn ACL after recording 11 sacks in 2023. Chubb recorded a career-high 12 sacks as a rookie, and he has been trying to get back to that peak ever since.

After five seasons in Denver and three seasons in Miami, Chubb’s next chapter will likely take him back to another contender as he has only appeared in one playoff game since being drafted as the fifth overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft.
