PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns’ dominant 120-98 win over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday showed the foundation the franchise has for the future with a group of young players.

Khaman Malooch, Ryan Dunn, Rasheer Fleming are cornerstones of the Suns’ future

Maluach’s playing time has gradually increased since the trade deadline. Phoenix dealt Nick Richards and Nigel Hayes-Davies, opening up more space in the front court.

Banchero is having a good season, but hasn’t really taken the next step up to the elite level. McGrady said “it will come” for the young star.

“It will come,” McGrady said in Banchero’s one-on-one interview. “He’s young, he’s trying to figure it out. There’s a lot of pressure on a young player, and he’s learning. Not having a real, true vet to really teach him and help him understand and guide him on how this thing works, I’m sure it’s very hard for him.

McGrady – who was a superstar himself and is in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame – said Banchero has the “tools” to become a superstar player.

“But in terms of tools, size, I think he has what it takes to be a superstar — not All-Star — superstar player,” McGrady said. “I think it’s up to him how he approaches the game and the information he’s consuming, and how you apply it when you’re on the basketball court? Are you reaching out to vets, people who have been in that situation? Are you getting that advice? How are you taking that advice? Or are you pushing it? Are you implementing it? I think there’s a lot of things he can do to help him get to that level. But his Has the size, has the tools, I think he can definitely get there.”

McGrady – who has played against LeBron James several times in his career – said Banchero should be at “LeBron status” in terms of what his stat line should look like. For perspective, James is one of the greatest players of all-time and has averaged 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game during his career.

Banchero is currently averaging 22.3 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game.

“That stat line should be on LeBron’s situation in terms of what he should look like every night,” Banchero’s McGrady said.

When McGrady was asked to make a comparison to the fourth-year player, he said he didn’t, because no one reminds him of the 6-foot-10 Banchero and what he is capable of doing on the court.

“No, he doesn’t really remind me of anyone,” McGrady said. “He’s 6 foot 10 inches, brother. He’s a big man. When I talk to him when I’m down there, if I go watch a game or something, and I’m around those guys, I have a conversation with him. But other than that, I don’t have any kind of relationship with him. But he’s a big man. Man, he’s a big man. Man, 6-10, heavy and just talk about mass. If he wants to, he should be Average of 30 points in this league.”

Heat’s Erik Spoelstra on recovering from recent tough loss

As the Heat prepare for the playoffs, with the team struggling to get out of the play-in tournament, the goal now is to not let these tough losses get the roster down. However, a final game like the one against the Rockets would be a pity, as Adebayo made a great save on Kevin Durant, with Thompson running after the team for the put-back.

“Just stick with it,” Spoelstra said. “We’re talking about having collective composure, and we thought we showed that composure during the game… You just think about the karma of the game, we’ll find a way to get out of here with a win. The Carolina Hurricanes were on their game on Sunday afternoon and handed the Pittsburgh Penguins a shocking 5-1 loss. Carolina played the entire game and took advantage of Pittsburgh’s deficiencies in what appeared to be an off-game for the home team.

Heading into the 3:00 p.m. game, the Penguins topped the league standings in penalty kills with a penalty kill success rate of 84.2, but the Hurricanes’ power play (ranked 12th leaguewide) managed to crack not just once, but three times in less than 40 minutes.

Carolina’s first three goals were extremely similar in where they came from and how they reached the net. First, Sebastian Aho drew a tripping penalty on Ryan Graves by Nikolaj Ehlers just 47 seconds into the game.

Next, in the second round, the man also came on advantage. Once again, through another screen at the same distance, Ehlers sent a slapshot that echoed into the back of the net.

Then, near the halfway point of the game, Jalen Chatfield slapped a layup through another screen from the same distance to put the Hurricanes up by three.

Later, the pattern ended as Ehlers sent an incredible pass through the legs of Parker Wotherspoon into the slot and onto the tape of Seth Jarvis for another power play goal. It was Jarvis’ first match back after a five-game drought.

In the third period, the Penguins finally got a goal on the board thanks to Egor Chinakhov, but the Hurricanes’ defense – and defense through offensive pressure – helped hold Frederik Andersen to a single goal allowed in the entire contest.

After a few missed attempts, including a blocked blast by Anderson towards the empty net, Mark Jankowski scored on an empty net goal to make the score 5–1.

Hurricanes successful in key areas in final game with Penguins of regular season

Throughout the game, the Hurricanes’ biggest advantage was their effective use of screens on Stuart Skinner. When it comes to those screens, it’s hard to expect a goaltender to stop what can’t be seen. They cannot use force (even though sometimes it seems they might).

Their defense was something else, as they held the Penguins without a shot for nearly 12 minutes early in the game.

Special teams were one of the biggest things for Carolina, going two-for-two on the penalty kill and three-for-five on the power play. It also didn’t hurt that the calls actually went their way for once.

And last, but certainly not least, Anderson played exceptionally well – he has improved significantly since returning from the Olympics. Despite the Penguins’ late offensive start, they still managed to put 19 shots on net. Furthermore, 15 of those were high-danger scoring chances – five more than the Hurricanes produced.

It was a great game for the Hurricanes, who took the sole lead of the Eastern Conference.

Both Marcus Smart and Rui Hachimura were listed as questionable on the Lakers’ injury report ahead of their upcoming game against the Pistons. Smart is dealing with right ankle soreness while Hachimura has right calf soreness. In addition to Hachimura and Smart, veteran big man Maxi Kleber is also questionable against the Pistons.

Smart missed the Lakers’ win against the Chicago Bulls on March 12 due to a hip problem, and he has been dealing with minor ailments throughout the season. But Smart has been one of the team’s most important players this season, along with Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves.

Smart has appeared in 60 games, including 53 starts, averaging a little over 28 minutes per game. In the week leading up to Sunday’s Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, NASCAR Cup Series drivers like Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe said there will be some wild racing. We couldn’t quite figure it out, two drivers largely dominated this race while some other big names disappointed.

Let’s take a look at our winners and losers from today’s NASCAR race, highlight the standout performances from the Goodyear 400 drivers and some related developments.

Winner: Tyler Reddick did it again

Tyler Reddick easily had the fastest car in qualifying and early on it looked like he would be on his way to victory in the Goodyear 400. However, due to battery problems he was forced to drive without a cool suit and in Stage 2 he reported problems with the brakes. Despite all this, which included an extended pit stop under caution for a battery change, Reddick worked his way back to the front of the field and easily passed everyone else to take his fourth win of the season. What Redick and the No. 45 team are doing right now is absolutely ridiculous.

Loser: Joey Logano and the No. 22 Team

The signs of trouble first started for Joey Logano and Team Penske on Saturday at Darlington. The No. 22 car did not have long laps in traffic and when qualifying came, Logano finished 29th. He dropped further back when the green flag waved, and fell out of the top 30 minutes of Sunday’s race. As he explained on the radio, grip was a major problem with the No. 22 car and there was no improvement after the first pit stop. Logano spent most of the day at least 2 laps down, and recorded single-digit points for the first time this season.

Winner: Brad Keselowski

Through six races this season, only two drivers had won multiple stages in the Cup Series. Brad Keselowski managed to become the first driver this year to win both stages in the same race. A quick pit stop allowed him to beat Tyler Reddick and Ryan Blaney to take Stage 1, and then he battled teammate Chris Buescher at the end of Stage 2. The sweep secured him 20 stage points after entering the weekend with a total of 9 stage points through the first six races. Keselowski now has a consistent top-10 finish, and he recorded more total points today than in Phoenix (22) and Las Vegas (27). Just a phenomenal day for the No. 6 team.

Loser: Ryan Blaney’s Pit Crew

Ryan Blaney certainly had one of the fastest cars in the NASCAR race today, and running early helped the No. 12 finish third in Stage 1. Unfortunately for Blaney, his pit crew’s propensity for mistakes reared its ugly head again. At a pit stop under caution after Stage 1, Blaney was forced to stop in teammate Austin Cindric’s box to tighten the left front wheel after his crew could not get it right the first time. It has happened twice in the last three races that Blaney has had to pit in someone else’s stall and fall back because his crew could not properly tighten the left wheel. Unsurprisingly, Blaney’s pit crew placed 33rd out of 36 teams coming into the weekend. Congratulations to Blaney on finishing third today even though his pit crew did him no favors.

Winner: Daniel Suarez

Daniel Suárez made it clear that he did not feel much support at Trackhouse Racing last season, and indicated that the lack of support contributed to one of the worst years of his career, highlighted by an average finishing position of 20.89. So far his move seems to be right. In his sixth points race with Spire Motorsports, Suárez drove the No. 7 car to top-10 finishes in each stage (ninth and 10th) and finished the day with his second top-10 finish of the year. He is currently outperforming his former colleagues at Trackhouse and is giving Spire plenty of reasons to consider a long-term solution for the No. 7 seat after this year.

Loser: 23XI Racing defeated Bubba Wallace

Bubba Wallace qualified second on Saturday and recorded the fastest lap of the Xfinity on Sunday. The No. 23 car clearly had the pace to finish in the top-10 and, at the very least, should have come away with a top-10 points day on Sunday. After finishing fourth in Stage 1, Wallace was forced to return to his box when his pit crew failed to secure the left-front tyre, costing him track position. Although he got back into the top 15, his day was ultimately ruined when 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin caused a multi-car incident by spinning into Erik Jones and sliding into Wallace, sending the No. 23 car into the wall. The contact seriously hampered Wallace’s handling and he was never able to finish higher than 34th.

Winner: Ty Gibbs

At this point no one should question Ty Gibbs’ ability as a Cup Series driver with a top team. After three consecutive top-five finishes at Darlington, the No. 54 car was at a slight disadvantage when the race started on Sunday, as it dropped to 28th on the grid. He overcame that poor starting condition to finish sixth on the day and score more total points than any of his JGR teammates. Gibbs is downright sad this time, and his performance should be especially validating considering what Chris Gabehart has said about him.

Loser: Hendrick Motorsports

William Byron was the only Hendrick Motorsports driver to finish in the top 10 in the Goodyear 400. Kyle Larson (32nd) had a strong day, as evidenced by the third-most stage points (14), but the No. 5 car suffered a flat tire in the final laps and dropped like a rock, finishing 11th on Sunday. Meanwhile, Chase Elliott finished a modest 15th, and another finish outside the top-20 for the replacement driver in the No. 48 car is pretty damning evidence regarding the fourth Hendrick car. HMS is still without a win in six races, and although it is no time to panic, it was a worrying performance from HMS.

Winner: Carson Hocevar

After three consecutive finishes of 20th or worse, Carson Hocevar and the No. 77 team were at Darlington. It was one of the fastest cars of the Goodyear 400, especially over long distances. Hocevar also showed tenacity and willingness to be aggressive late in the race, and worked his way into the top 10 to finish fourth. While Hocevar did not score any stage points that day, Spier and the No. 77 team should feel very good about what the young driver showed late in the race.

BOSTON — Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce grew up in downtown Los Angeles and was even a Lakers fan as a kid, but he didn’t hesitate to call Beantown home on Sunday afternoons.

“It’s always good to be back here,” he said, standing at the TD Garden after the Causeway Classic, a fan event presented by Ticketmaster. “This is home, so to be able to give back to the fans every time I come out, for what they’ve been able to do to support me in my career, it means a lot. At times like these you remember what you left for this building, for the city. And so I enjoy it every time.”

Like Pierce, Boston wasn’t always home to Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

They were born elsewhere, yet unfamiliarity was not the only reason they were initially hesitant to embrace the city. Tatum, like Pierce, grew up a Lakers fan and dreamed that the Celtics’ hated rival would select him in the draft. Brown, meanwhile, was booed by Celtics fans on his draft night nearly 10 years ago for reasons beyond his control.

Despite these difficult introductions to Boston, Pierce has helped bridge the gap. As Tatum and Brown became superstars, the 2008 NBA Finals MVP supported them from afar and got to know them up close whenever he visited New England or when the Celtics traveled to LA.

“I’ve been happy for him since day one,” Pearce told ClutchPoints. “I’m always coming over and whenever they’re in Los Angeles, I try to watch their workouts… It’s just a brotherhood, no matter what the age difference is.”

According to CleaningTheGlass, Towns shot a career-low 60 percent from within four feet, which is the NBA’s worst percentage among Big 20 players who have played more than 1,700 minutes this season.

As the regular season winds down, the Knicks are attempting to catch the Boston Celtics for the Eastern Conference second seed. The five-game winning streak has pulled New York to within two games of Boston with 12 games remaining.
